• Mercurial Tagging/Branching Strategy

  My current project is broken down into 3 parts: Website, Desktop Client, and a Plug-in for a third party program. We had started out originally with Subversion for our source control but decided to try Mercurial after reading Joel Spolsky's final post. Considering we haven't really used the majority of svn's potential before, we figured starting fresh with some basic ideas of how source control worked would make this transition easy. However, after setting up our initial repository, we're lost as to how tagging and branching should work on a project like this. Essentially, we're working on all 3 of these parts at the same time. We want a release to be a combination of the 3 parts. Currently we're working in one repository. For the Plug-in part, we have the first iteration finished which we've been referring to as Plug-In v0.1. For the first official build of the other two parts, we'd also like to refer to them as Website v0.1 and Desktop Client v0.1. When all three parts are at v0.1, we'd like to have a Full Project v0.1. Our problem is we're not sure how to manage all of this in the Hg repository. Would the best way to handle this be to create 3 separate repositories for the 3 stable versions and then 3 more repositories for the current developments? Currently we have this all in one repository. Should we do this in branches (are branches any different from cloning repositories?) and tags? Any help is greatly appreciated.

• flushing database cache in SWI-Prolog

  We are using swi-prolog to run our testcases. Whenever the test starts, I am opening the connection to MYSQL database and storing the Name of the Test hat is being done and then closing the DB. These tests run for about 2 days continuously. After the tests are done, the results basically gets stored in folder in the server. There is a predicate in another prolog file that is called to update the results to the MYSQL database. The code is simple, I use odbc library and just call odbc_* predicates to connect and update the mysql by issuing direct queries. The actual problem is : If I try to call the Predicate from the same Prolog window, where the test just got completed, I get an error as updating to the DB server. Although I do not get any error in the connection. If I close the session of that prolog with halt and closing all the open prolog windows , then open an other complete new instance of Prolog and run the predicate the update goes well. I have a feeling that there is some connection reference to the MySQL DB in Prolog database. Is there any way to clear the database in prolog so that I can run the same predicate without closing any existing prolog windows? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

SELECT [t0].[LocationHourID], [t0].[LocationID], [t0].[StoreNumber] FROM [dbo].[Locations_Hours] AS t0 WHERE ([t0].[LocationID] = 4019) I cannot figure out why SubSonic is omitting the nvarchar fields when it generates the SELECT statement. Anyone got any ideas?

• vectorizing a for loop in numpy/scipy?

  I'm trying to vectorize a for loop that I have inside of a class method. The for loop has the following form: it iterates through a bunch of points and depending on whether a certain variable (called "self.condition_met" below) is true, calls a pair of functions on the point, and adds the result to a list. Each point here is an element in a vector of lists, i.e. a data structure that looks like array([[1,2,3], [4,5,6], ...]). Here is the problematic function: def myClass: def my_inefficient_method(self): final_vector = [] # Assume 'my_vector' and 'my_other_vector' are defined numpy arrays for point in all_points: if not self.condition_met: a = self.my_func1(point, my_vector) b = self.my_func2(point, my_other_vector) else: a = self.my_func3(point, my_vector) b = self.my_func4(point, my_other_vector) c = a + b final_vector.append(c) # Choose random element from resulting vector 'final_vector' self.condition_met is set before my_inefficient_method is called, so it seems unnecessary to check it each time, but I am not sure how to better write this. • Usercontrol losing Viewstate across Postback

  I have a user control which uses objects as inner properties (some code is below). I am having trouble with setting the attribute of the Step class programmatically, when set programmatically it is being lost across postback which would indicate something to do with Viewstate (?). When setting the property of the Step class declaratively it's working fine. • How did the Lunar Lander example make the image backgrounds transparent?

  Hello. I'm trying to make a GUI program with the Android SDK, using their Lunar Lander example as a significant self-teaching tool in the process. I've noticed their sprites' images' backgrounds, which were at least usually pure white, did not show up in their program. I want to ask how they did that, since their site doesn't explain simple things very well. I've managed to pull that off before on another GUI SDK, wherein all I had to do was to call a function and pass it a few floats to define a certain color, and until my code told it to do otherwise, that function would make sure that that particular color in my sprites' images was totally transparent. However I've wrestled with the Lunar Lander example and getting my own program to show some custom graphics for a week or two now, and I haven't noticed any such function call in the Lunar Lander example. I tried to look for it, but I did not find anything. I've tried to Google some tutorial or other reference material, but what I've found so far is just straying off into unrelated areas and totally dodging this EXTREMELY important lesson on the SDK's basics. • IE7 div boxes with clear: right and float: left - float to top

  Hey, lately i've been slamming my head against my desk to solve this Problem. Didn't work out. I know it can be solved by editing the contents with some clearing elements. Sadly there is some javascript sorting beeing used and the Sourcode is being generated by CMS Components so that would be my last shot. I'm having a few boxes beeing floated alwayes 2 in a row. The boxes have a diffrent height but equal width and are all placed in a container with static width. The link shows the source i need to reproduce the Problem. My Boxes are beeing floated left. I tried to fix this with clear: left on odd and clear: right on even elements. But that only works in ff/ie8/chrome Browsers, not ie7. Example: http://www.i3rutus.de/ie7divfloatexample/ Anyone knows a possibility to fix this Problem by just editing the CSS not the actual XHTML? Problem appears in IE7. IE8, Chrome and FF work fine. • ServiceRoute + WebServiceHostFactory kills WSDL generation? How to create extensionless WCF service

  I'm trying to use extenionless / .svc-less WCF services. Can anyone else confirm or deny the issue I'm experiencing? I use routing in code, and do this in Application_Start of global.asax.cs: RouteTable.Routes.Add(new ServiceRoute("Data", new WebServiceHostFactory(), typeof(DataDips))); I have tested in both IIS 6 and IIS 7.5 and I can use the service just fine (ie my extensionless handler is correctly configured for ASP.NET). However, metadata generation is totally screwed up. I can hit my /mex endpoint with the WCF Test Client (and I presume svcutil.exe) -- but the ?wsdl generation you typically get with .svc is toast. I can't hit it with a browser (get 400 bad request), I can't hit it with wsdl.exe, etc. Metadata generation is configured correctly in web.config. This is a problem of course, because the service is exposed as basicHttpBinding so that an old style ASMX client can get to it. But of course, the client can't generate the proxy without a WSDL description. If I instead use serviceActivation routing in config like this, rather than registering a route in code: <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true"> <serviceActivations> <add relativeAddress="Data.svc" service="DataDips" /> </serviceActivations> </serviceHostingEnvironment> Then voila... it works. But then I don't have a clean extensionless url. If I change relativeAddress from Data.svc to Data, then I get a configuration exception as this is not supported by config. (Must use an extension registered to WCF). I've also attempted to use this code in conjunction with the above config: RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("","Data/{*data}","~/Data.svc/{*data}",false); My thinking is that I can just point the extensionless url at the configured .svc url. This doesn't work -- the /Data.svc continues to work, but /Data returns a 404. Anyone with any bright ideas?

  I have an AIR application written in html/javascript and I want to use the Actionscript print functions but I have no experience in Actionscript for AIR. Where do I put the Actionscript code ? Does it go into an mxml file or does it need to be compiled into a Flash application. Where do I put it and how do I include it into the html document ? The solution works until it's deployed to Sharepoint. • "Unrecognized configuration section connectionStrings" in app.exe.config

  Hi On a Terminal Server install of my WinForms app, one of my clients gets the following exception on startup: "Unrecognized configuration section connectionStrings" This is occurring in myapp.exe.config but I can't figure out why. Runs perfectly everywhere else, only difference between this install and any other is the connection string. I've searched around, but can only find this issue relating to ASP.NET apps and issues in web.config. Any ideas what could be broken in the config of this WinForms app though? Is it indicating a problem further up in machine.config? • Ruby on Rails export to csv - maintain mysql select statement order

  Exporting some data from mysql to a csv file using FasterCSV. I'd like the columns in the outputted CSV to be in the same order as the select statement in my query. Example: rows = Data.find( :all, :select=>'name, age, height, weight' ) headers = rows[0].attributes.keys FasterCSV.generate do |csv| csv << headers rows.each do |r| csv << r.attributes.values end end CSV Output: height,weight,name,age 74,212,bob,23 70,201,fred,24 . . . I want the CSV columns in the same order as my select statement. Obviously the attributes method is not going to work. Any ideas on the best way to ensure that the columns in my csv file will be in the same order as the select statement? Got a lot of data and performance is an issue. The select statement is not static. I realize I could loop through column names within the rows.each loop but it seems kinda dirty.

• Process.CloseMainWindow() not working

  I start the Windows On-Screen-Keyboard like that: s_onScreenKeyboard = new Process(); s_onScreenKeyboard.StartInfo = new ProcessStartInfo("osk.exe"); s_onScreenKeyboard.EnableRaisingEvents = true; s_onScreenKeyboard.Exited += new EventHandler(s_onScreenKeyboard_Exited); s_onScreenKeyboard.Start(); This works fine, but when I try to stop it using the following code, it does nothing: s_onScreenKeyboard.CloseMainWindow(); if (!s_onScreenKeyboard.HasExited) { if (!s_onScreenKeyboard.WaitForExit(1000)) { s_onScreenKeyboard.Close(); //s_onScreenKeyboard.Kill(); } } When uncommenting s_onScreenKeyboard.Kill(); it is closed, but the problem is that osk.exe obviously uses another process called "msswchx.exe" which is not closed if I simply kill the OSK process. This way, I would end up with hundreds of these processes which is not what I want. Another strange thing is that the CloseMainWindow() call worked at some time, but then it suddenly did not work anymore, and I do not remember what has changed. Any ideas? Background: I am implementing an On-Screen-Keyboard for my application because it should work with a touchscreen. It is important that the keyboard layout matches the layout which is configured in Windows since the application will be shipped to many different countries. Therefore, instead of implementing a custom keyboard control with approx. 537 keyboard layouts (exaggerating a little here...), I wanted to utilize the Windows built-in On-Screen-Keyboard which adapts to the selected keyboard layout automatically, saving a lot of work for me.

• Problem creating simple "windows script components" on Windows 7.

  Hi folks, I'm trying to get a Windows Script Component working on and x64 development machine. Works fine on x32 bit. But can't seem to get it running, I have the same problem with both JScript and VBScript. Here's the most simple wsc component possible. All that it does it pop up "Hello" in a message box. If you save the snippit below to a file called test_lib.wsc, you'll then be able to right click and register it. • Is it possible to make a non-nullable column nullable when used in a view? (sql server)

  Hi, To start off I have two tables, PersonNames and PersonNameVariations. When a name is searched, it finds the closest name to one of the ones available in PersonNames and records it in the PersonNameVariations table if it's not already in there. I am using a stored proc to search the PersonNames for a passed in PersonNameVariationand return the information on both the PersonName found and the PersonNameVariation that was compared to it. Since I am using the Entity Framework, I needed return a complex type in the Import Function but for some reason it says my current framework doesn't support it. My last option was to use an Entity to return in my stored proc instead. The result that I needed back is the information on both the PersonName that was found and the PersonNameVariation that was recorded. Since I cannot return both entities, I created a view PersonSearchVariationInfo and added it into my Entity Framework in order to use it as the entity to return. The problem is that the search will not always return a Person Name match. It needs to be able to return only the PersonNameVariation data in some cases, meaning that all the fields in the PersonSearchVariationInfo pertaining to PersonName need to be nullable. How can I take my view and make some of the fields nullable? When I do it directly in the Entity Framework I get a mapping error: Error 4 Error 3031: Problem in mapping fragments starting at line 1202:Non-nullable column myproject_vw_PersonSearchVariationInfo.DateAdded in table myproject_vw_PersonSearchVariationInfo is mapped to a nullable entity property. • Cross-compiling with OpenSSL for Windows

  I'm trying to compile the oauth-utils http://mir.dnsalias.com/oss/oauth/start for Windows from Ubuntu. I have compiled it on Windows before (a few months back), but wanted to try cross-compiling. I got openssl build using mingw32 ok, and put libssl.a and libcrypto.a in the right place. • How do I stop Python install on Mac OS X from putting things in my home directory?

(OS X 10.6.2, Python-2.6.5.tar.bz2) I've done this before and it was easy, but for some reason, this time after ./configure, and make, the sudo make install puts things some things in my home directory instead of in /usr/local/... where I expect. The .py files are okay, but not the .so files... • Problem upgrading eclipse rcp app from 3.3 to 3.5 on Mac OS

  I previously had an eclipse rcp app based on eclipse 3.3 pugins deployed on both windows and mac OS X 10.4. i'm now trying to port the app to java 1.6 and eclipse 3.5 (Build id: 20100218-1602) plugins on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). I can launch the product from eclipse 3.5 on windows but not on Mac OS X. I have the 64bit cocoa eclipse IDE and java 6. In the launch configuration I set runtime JRE to JVM 1.6.0 and added required plugins. • log4net affecting other projects which don't even use it

  I'm seeing something really strange happening with some projects I'm working on. I used log4net in an MVC web site and this was working great. I then was working on a totally unrelated Console application which uses the SharePoint API and as soon as I include the following line (other lines don't cause the problem) SPLimitedWebPartManager spWebPartManager = web.GetLimitedWebPartManager("http://blah/blah.aspx?PageView=Shared", System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts.PersonalizationScope.Shared); I get the following message in the console app log4net:ERROR XmlConfigurator: Failed to find configuration section 'log4net' in the application's .config file. Check your .config file for the <log4net> and < configSections> elements. The configuration section should look like: <section n ame="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler,log4net" / > log4net:ERROR XmlConfigurator: Failed to find configuration section 'log4net' in the application's .config file. Check your .config file for the <log4net> and < configSections> elements. The configuration section should look like: <section n ame="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler,log4net" / > I get this twice after a small delay. The delay is probably the request to get the web part manager from the page but I'm not sure why this log4net error is showing up in this project. I've gone through the code and bin folders etc. and found no trace of any log4net mentions. Any ideas why this might be happening?

  I have a servlet running in JBoss (4.2.2.GA and 4.3-eap) that needs to connect to an EJB to do work. I've dumped System.getProperties() and System.getEnv() and it doesn't appear there. I'm pretty sure I can set it in server/conf/jndi.properties as well, but I was hoping to avoid another magic config file. I've tried the HttpNamingContextFactory but that fails "java.net.ProtocolException: Server redirected too many times (20)" env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "org.jboss.naming.HttpNamingContextFactory"); env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "http://" + serverAddress + ":8080/invoker/JNDIFactory"); Any ideas?
