  • Most efficient way to save tile data of an isometric game

    - by Harmen
Hello, I'm working on an isometric game for fast browsers that support <canvas>, which is great fun. To save information of each tile, I use a two-dimensional array which contains numbers representing a tile ID, like: var level = [[1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 0], [0, 1, 1, 2, 0, 1], [0, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1]]; var tiles = [ {name: 'grass', color: 'green'}, {name: 'water', color: 'blue'}, {name: 'forest', color: 'ForestGreen'} ]; So far it works great, but now I want to work with heights and slopes like in this picture: For each tile I need to save it's tile ID, height and information about which corners are turned upward. I came up with a simple idea about a bitwise representation of all four corners, like this: 1011 // top, bottom and left corner turned up My question is: what is the most efficient way to save these three values for each cell? Is it possible to save these three values as one integer?

  • How does jQuery store data with .data()?

    - by TK
I am a little confused how jQuery stores data with .data() functions. Is this something called expando? Or is this using HTML5 Web Storage although I think this is very unlikely? The documentation says: The .data() method allows us to attach data of any type to DOM elements in a way that is safe from circular references and therefore from memory leaks. As I read about expando, it seems to have a rick of memory leak. Unfortunately my skills are not enough to read and understand jQuery code itself, but I want to know how jQuery stores such data by using data(). http://api.jquery.com/data/

  • Applying attribute to SVG using JS prompts 'this.textBox.style is undefined'. Why?

    - by Jack Roscoe
Hi, I'm using the following code to draw an SVG text box, and then change its text anchor attribute to 'left' as it defaults to center and that's nasty. The text generates correctly, but when I add this second line I get the error 'this.textBox.style is undefined' in my error console. Here's my code: RenderTextBox:function() { // Render Text this.textBox = paper.text(this.x, this.y, this.htmlText); this.textBox.style.textAnchor="left"; } Any ideas?

  • AngularJS: download pdf file from the server

    - by Bartosz Bialecki
    I want to download a pdf file from the web server using $http. I use this code which works great, my file only is save as a html file, but when I open it it is opened as pdf but in the browser. I tested it on Chrome 36, Firefox 31 and Opera 23. This is my angularjs code (based on this code): UserService.downloadInvoice(hash).success(function (data, status, headers) { var filename, octetStreamMime = "application/octet-stream", contentType; // Get the headers headers = headers(); if (!filename) { filename = headers["x-filename"] || 'invoice.pdf'; } // Determine the content type from the header or default to "application/octet-stream" contentType = headers["content-type"] || octetStreamMime; if (navigator.msSaveBlob) { var blob = new Blob([data], { type: contentType }); navigator.msSaveBlob(blob, filename); } else { var urlCreator = window.URL || window.webkitURL || window.mozURL || window.msURL; if (urlCreator) { // Try to use a download link var link = document.createElement("a"); if ("download" in link) { // Prepare a blob URL var blob = new Blob([data], { type: contentType }); var url = urlCreator.createObjectURL(blob); $window.saveAs(blob, filename); return; link.setAttribute("href", url); link.setAttribute("download", filename); // Simulate clicking the download link var event = document.createEvent('MouseEvents'); event.initMouseEvent('click', true, true, window, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, false, false, false, false, 0, null); link.dispatchEvent(event); } else { // Prepare a blob URL // Use application/octet-stream when using window.location to force download var blob = new Blob([data], { type: octetStreamMime }); var url = urlCreator.createObjectURL(blob); $window.location = url; } } } }).error(function (response) { $log.debug(response); }); On my server I use Laravel and this is my response: $headers = array( 'Content-Type' => $contentType, 'Content-Length' => strlen($data), 'Content-Disposition' => $contentDisposition ); return Response::make($data, 200, $headers); where $contentType is application/pdf and $contentDisposition is attachment; filename=" . basename($fileName) . '"' $filename - e.g. 59005-57123123.PDF My response headers: Cache-Control:no-cache Connection:Keep-Alive Content-Disposition:attachment; filename="159005-57123123.PDF" Content-Length:249403 Content-Type:application/pdf Date:Mon, 25 Aug 2014 15:56:43 GMT Keep-Alive:timeout=3, max=1 What am I doing wrong?

  • jquery noob problem with variables (scope?)

    - by aharon
I'm trying to retrieve data from a php file named return that just contains <?php echo 'here is a string'; ?> I'm doing this through an html file containing <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.min.js"></script> <script> var x; $.get("return.php", function(data){ x = data; }) function showAlert() {alert(x);} $(document).ready(function(){ alert(x); }); </script> </head> <body> <input type = "button" value = "Click here" onClick="showAlert();"> </body> </html> When the button is clicked it retrieves and displays the code fine, but on the $(document).ready thing, it displays "undefined" instead of the data in return.php. Any solutions? Thanks.

  • WCF webHttpBinding with jQuery AJAX - removing/working around same origin policy

    - by csauve
So I'm trying to create a C# WCF REST service that is called by jQuery. I've discovered that jQuery requires that AJAX calls are made under the same origin policy. I have a few questions for how I might proceed. I am already aware of; 1. The hacky solution of JSONP with a server callback 2. The way too much server overhead of having a cross-domain proxy. 3. Using Flash in the browser to make the call and setting up crossdomain.xml at my WCF server root. I'd rather not use these because; 1. I don't want to use JSON, or at least I don't want to be restricted to using it 2. I would like to separate the server that serves static pages from the one that serves application state. 3. Flash in this day in age is out of the question. What I'm thinking: is there anything like Flash's crossdomain.xml file that works for jQuery? Is this "same-origin" policy a part of jQuery or is it a restriction in specific browsers? If it's just a part of jQuery, maybe I'll try digging in the code to work around it.

  • Back-to-back ajax long poll without a recursive callback function.

    - by Teddy
I'm trying to make long poll ajax calls, back to back. The problem with the current way I'm doing it is that I make each successive call from the callback function of the previous call. Is this a problem? Firebug doesn't show any of my ajax calls as completed, even thought the data is returned and the callback is executed. The recursive structure seems inefficient. Any ideas?

  • Save jQuery callback functions in a separate file

    - by Danny Herran
Probably I missed something, but lets say I have this: $('a.delete').click(function(){ resp=window.confirm("Are you sure you want to delete this?"); if(resp) return true; else return false; } Now, I want to save that callback function into a separate js file, because I will use it in several pages. My logic told me to do this: $('a.del').click(delete_element()); Having my js file like this: function delete_element(){ resp=window.confirm("Are you sure you want to delete this?"); if(resp) return true; else return false; } This doesn't work. Everytime my page loads, it displays the confirm window, even if I haven't clicked the link. It is clear that my logic failed this time. What am I missing?

  • Cannot set property X of undefined - programatically created element

    - by Dave
I am working on a class to create a fairly complex custom element. I want to be able to define element attributes (mainly CSS) as I am creating the elements. I came up with the below function to quickly set attrs for me given an input array: // Sample array structure of apply_settings //var _button_div = { // syle : { // position: 'absolute', // padding : '2px', // right : 0, // top : 0 // } //}; function __apply_settings(__el,apply_settings){ try{ for(settingKey in apply_settings){ __setting = apply_settings[settingKey]; if(typeof(__setting)=='string'){ __el[settingKey] = __setting; }else{ for(i in __setting){ __el[settingKey][i] = apply_settings[settingKey][i]; } } } }catch(ex){ alert(ex + " " + __el); } } The function works fine except here: function __draw_top(){ var containerDiv = document.createElement('div'); var buttonDiv = document.createElement('div'); __apply_settings(containerDiv,this.settings.top_bar); if(global_settings.show_x) buttonDiv.appendChild(__create_img(global_settings.images.close)); containerDiv.appendChild(buttonDiv); __apply_settings(buttonDiv,this.settings.button_div); return containerDiv; } The specific section that is failing is __apply_settings(buttonDiv,this.settings.button_div); with the error "Cannot set property 'position' of undefined". So naturally, I am assuming that buttonDiv is undefined.. I put alert(ex + " " + __el); in __apply_settings() to verify what I was working with. Surprisingly enough, the element is a div. Is there any reason why this function would be working for containerDiv and not buttonDiv? Any help would be greatly appreciated :) {EDIT} http://jsfiddle.net/Us8Zw/2/

  • Ember nested route. Load more models

    - by user3568719
JsBin http://jsbin.com/EveQOke/153/ I know how to load more then one model to a route, using Ember.RSVP.hash. (see Jsbin Children menu). I use dynamic part to access one elem from a collection children/1. But i cant load more models to a nested resource. In my example i want to populate all the toys for a select, not just list the toys of the child. I have tried to access the model of the route children App.ChildRoute = Ember.Route.extend({ model: function(param){ return Ember.RSVP.hash({ allToys: this.modelFor("children"), child:this.store.find('child', param.child_id) }); } }); and use its model's toy property (since there have already loaded all of the toys) child.hbs <h4>All avaiable toys</h4> <table> {{#each toy in model.allToys.toys}} <tr> <td>{{toy.name}}</td> </tr> {{/each}} </table>

  • JSON: How do I alert the name of the first node in level 1 in this code snippet?

    - by user143805
    var response = "{\"tree\":[{\"level1\":[{\"node\":{\"id\": 1,\"name\": \"paradox\",\"parent\": 0}}]},{\"level2\":[{\"node\":{\"id\": 2,\"name\": \"lucent\",\"parent\": 1}},{\"node\":{\"id\": 3,\"name\": \"reiso\",\"parent\": 1}}]},{\"level3\":[{\"node\":{\"id\": 4,\"name\": \"pessi\",\"parent\": 3}},{\"node\":{\"id\": 5,\"name\": \"misho\",\"parent\": 2}}]},{\"level4\":[{\"node\":{\"id\": 6,\"name\": \"hema\",\"parent\": 5}},{\"node\":{\"id\": 7,\"name\": \"iiyo\",\"parent\": 4}}]}]}"; var data = eval("(" + response + ")"); This is a dummy json response I am currently testing. Now how do I get the value of "name" in the 1st node of "level1" from the "tree"? Thanks

  • Enable Datepicker only when first field has a value

    - by Syed Abdul Rahman
Right now, the End Date selection is disabled. I want to only enable this when a Start Date is selected. if( $('#datepicker1').val().length === 0) { $('#datepicker2').datepicker("disable"); } else { $('#datepicker2').datepicker("enable"); } This clearly does not work. If I insert value = 'random date' into my first input field, it works fine. I'm not too sure on how do this. Clearly not as easy as I had hoped. My other problem, or hope, is to disable the dates including and before the first selection. You know, pick Start Date, and every date before and said date for the next picker would be disabled. But that is a whole other problem.

  • Is it right that Strophe.addHandler reads only first node from response?

    - by markcial
    I'm starting to learn strophe library usage and when i use addHandler to parse response it seems to read only first node of xml response so when i receive a xml like that : <body xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/httpbind'> <presence xmlns='jabber:client' from='test2@localhost' to='test2@localhost' type='avaliable' id='5593:sendIQ'> <status/> </presence> <presence xmlns='jabber:client' from='test@localhost' to='test2@localhost' xml:lang='en'> <status /> </presence> <iq xmlns='jabber:client' from='test2@localhost' to='test2@localhost' type='result'> <query xmlns='jabber:iq:roster'> <item subscription='both' name='test' jid='test@localhost'> <group>test group</group> </item> </query> </iq> </body> With the handler testHandler used like that : connection.addHandler(testHandler,null,"presence"); function testHandler(stanza){ console.log(stanza); } It only logs : <presence xmlns='jabber:client' from='test2@localhost' to='test2@localhost' type='avaliable' id='5593:sendIQ'> <status/> </presence> What i am missing? is it a right behaviour? Should i add more handlers to get the other stanzas? Thanks for advance

  • Why should I reuse XmlHttpRequest objects?

    - by Xavi
From what I understand, it's a best practice to reuse XmlHttpRequest objects whenever possible. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time understanding why. It seems like trying to reuse XHR objects can increase code complexity, introduce possible browser incompatibilities, and lead to other subtle bugs. After researching this question for a while, I did come up with a list of possible explanations: Fewer objects created means less garbage collecting Reusing XHR objects reduces the chance of memory leaks The overhead of creating a new XHR object is high The browser is able to perform some sort of network optimization under hood But I'm not sure if any of these reasons are actually valid. Any light you can shed on this question would be much appreciated.

  • How to add multiple series in highcharts synchronously

    - by leonlong
I tried to add multiple series in highcharts synchronously, but the response time is very slow. It took almost 3-5 seconds to display the charts. Here is part of the code. while(chart.series.length>0){ chart.series[0].remove(true); } chart.addSeries(series1); chart.addSeries(series2); chart.addSeries(series3); chart.addSeries(series4); chart.addSeries(series5); When I remain only one addSeries command, it response immediately, so I realized it may be the problem of add multiple series in highcharts synchronously. Not so good at highcharts, so is there anyone could help me about this? Or maybe there is another way to do this, I am much appreciated.
