  • jQuery: how to handle empty return from getJSON

    - by Gee
    Alright so I have a php script which gets results from a DB, and to get those results I'm using a jQuery script to pull the results via getJSON. It works perfectly but now I want to do something if the php script returns no results (empty). I tried: $.getJSON('path/to/script'), {parameter:parameter}, function(data){ if (data) { alert('Result'); } else { alert('Empty); } }); But it's no good. I've tried different things like if (data.length) but still nothing. I've noticed that if there is no returned data the callback will never fire at all. So if that's the case, how do I handle a empty return?

  • Jquery: Filter dropdown list as you type

    - by rmbarnes
    I have used a prototype plugin which filters the contents of a dropdown as you type. So for example if you typed 'cat' into the text box, only items containing the substring 'cat' would be left as options in the drop down. Does anyone know of a jquery plugin which can do this?

  • ExtJS accordion setActiveItem

    - by xsix
    Hello. I am developing an application using ExtJS. I have an accordion and I need to select an active item(so it expands). Accordion.setActiveItem outputs: "setActiveItem" is not a function in a browser's error window. Second issue is that hideCollapseTool property, when set to true in the initialisation, doesn't do anything. Collapse tools still are being displayed. I am using ExtJS 3.1.1. I would be very thankful for any tips and answers.

I tried this, $("#divSettings").html(this); but, it's not working. What's the correct logic to get updated content in div. Thanks. Code: function deletePoll(postId){ $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "../internal_request/ir_display_polls.php", data: { postId: postId }, success: function(result) { location.reload(); //$("#divSettings").html(this); } }); }

  • Dynamic jQuery Validate error messages with AddMethod based on the element

    - by mcpDESIGNS
    Let's say I have a custom AddMethod to jQuery Validate like: $.validator.addMethod('min-length', function (val, element) { // do stuff // the error message here needs to be dynamic }, 'The field cannot be less than than ' + element.attr('data-min') + // it is within the closure, but it can't grab it ' length.'); I can't figure out a way to get the element variable in question, and get any values from it. What am I missing here?

  • Passing function-specific variables

    - by Simon Carlson
    Say I got two functions that looks like this: function main(Index) { doStuff(); } function doStuff() { if(Index == 1) { document.write("Hello world!") } } And some HTML: <input type="button" value="Click me" onclick="main(1)" /> I realize this is a very stupid way to use function-specific variables and such, but it's just out of curiosity. So is it possible to pass the variable Index from the main function to the doStuff function?

Thanks in advance!

  • How to retrieve the real height of a #div (including overflowed parts)

    - by Toni Michel Caubet
    The same way i use this to detect when user scolled down the whole page: $(window).scroll(function(){ var diff = $(window).scrollTop() + $(window).height() - $(document).height(); if ($(window).scrollTop() == $(document).height() - $(window).height() || (diff < 5 && diff > -5)){ console.log('yay!'); } }); I wanted to do the same inside a dialog, I am trying like this: $('#dialog').dialog(); $('#dialog').scroll(function(){ var scroll = $('#dialog').scrollTop(); var height = $('#dialog ul').outerHeight(true); if(scroll == height){ $('#dialog').css('background','#999'); }else{ console.log('scrolltop is '+scroll+' and height is: '+height); } }) DEMO: http://jsfiddle.net/AgFXz/ The problem i guess is that i am not retrieving the whole #dialog size but the visible (CSS Defined property) size.. How can i know when user scrolled till the end of the dialog's scroll? Thanks!!

  • sending javascript array to external php file using POST

    - by user1472224
    I am trying to send a javascript array to an external php page, but the only thing the php page is picking up is the fact that I am sending array, not the actual data within the array. javascript - var newArray = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]; $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'array.php', data: {'something': newArray}, success: function(){ alert("sent"); } }); External PHP Page - <?php echo($_POST['something'])); ?> I know this question has been asked before, but for some reason, this isn't working for me. I have spent the last couple days trying to figure this out as well. Can someone please point me in the right direction. current output (from php page) - Array (thats all the page outputs)

  • How can flash call jquery function in its event

    - by user2955639
    I want jquery to do something during some of the events when an audio is playing. So I'm coding a function like this <script> $.fn.playMedia = function(options){ var opts = $.extend({}, { swfSrc: '' timeUpdated: function(currentTime){}, startPlay: function(){}, endPlay: function(){} }, options); return $(this).each(function(){ // call flash to play the media whose src is opts.swfSrc // Is it possible that flash can call the js functions(opts.timeUpdate, opts.startPlay and opts.endPlay) at each time of the event is triggered? }); }}; </script> // Usage <div id="player"></div> <script> $('#player').playMedia({ swfSrc: '/path/song.mp3', timeUpdated: function(currentTime){ comsole.log(currentTime); } }); </script> I'm a totally layman of flash, I just guess this works. Hope someone could tell me how to make up a swf file for this jquery function. Or is there any existing jquery plugin which does this thing but can re-design apperance flexibly. Thank you very much!

  • Prevent hash navigation url

    - by Koningh
    I have the following problem: I'm using a slider (coda) to let people navigate trough some 'pages'. The slider uses hash links to navigate to the next page/slide. If a user is at page one (#page1), there is a link which will lead the user to page 2 (#page2) and so on. At the top of the slider the numbers of the pages appear as a link, but only when the page is visited. So if there are six pages and the user navigates from the first to the second and then the third one, there are only three links at the top of the slider (to page one, two and three). The problem is that a user can navigate to page five (or any page actually) without first visiting the pages previous to page five by just using the hash URL and typing the whole link in their address bar. For example if I would type www.mydomain.com/slider/index.php#page5 the slider automatically navigates to the fifth slide/page of the slider and thereby skipping the first four. I want to allow users to navigate to #page5 only if they have visited the first four (So by clicking trough the slides). This means that if they would go to #page5 directly by typing the URL in the address bar, I would like them to be send to the first page (#page1). Does anyone have any idea on solving this?

    - by Prashant Singh
    The structure of a webpage is like this :- <div id='abc'> <div class='a'>Some contents here </div> <div class='b'>Some other contents< </div> </div> My aim is to add this after the class a in above structure. <div class='a'>Some other contents here </div> So that final structure looks like this :- <div id='abc'> <div class='a'>Some contents here </div> <div class='a'>Some other contents here </div> <div class='b'>Some other contents< </div> </div> Can there be a better way to do this using DOM properties. • jQuery: Adding li element only if it not already there?

    - by Legend
    I am constructing an <li> element like this: var element = $("<li></li>") .html(mHTML) .attr('id', "elemid"); I am trying to add this element to a <ul> element only if it doesn't already exist. Any ideas on how to do this? Am I supposed to use contains() to see if the ul element contain the html and then decide? For instance, <ul id="elemul"> <li id="elemli1">Element 1</li> <li id="elemli2">Element 2</li> <li id="elemli3">Element 3</li> </ul> If I try adding Element 1, it should not add it. What should I do if its a longer string (not really long but about 150 characters). Do I go about using hashmaps?

  • Initializing new instances of a class in a loop, how can I persist an assignment to an event handler

    - by Pydroid
    This is a follow on question from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3020960/why-is-my-prototype-function-not-returning-the-property-of-the-instance $.getJSON(myjson, function(data) { var json = data; for (i in json) { juuvies[i] = new Juuvy(i,json[i], font, keyfontsize, valfontsize, orbcol, orbkeycol, orbvalcol, paper); juuvies[i].juuv_it(); var mykey = juuvies[i].init_nodes(); juuvies[i].orb.node.onmouseover = function() { console.log(mykey);}; } }); And my init_nodes function, Juuvy.prototype.init_nodes = function() { return this.key; } At this point of time, I get only the last key in the loop, instead of a unique pass each time. Is there a way I can persist the assignment for the event handler?

  • jQuery: How to use modifier keys on form submit?

    - by Svish
    Say I have a form that looks like this: [ Animal name input field ] Add button If I type a name and hit enter, an animal with the given name is added to a table. Works fine. What I would like now is to call the current way of working "quick add" and add a new feature called "slow add", which I am not quite sure how to do. Basically what I want is that if for example the shift key is held down when enter or the button is clicked, I want the form submit method to do something slightly different. In my case I want it to open up a form where more details on the animal can be added before it is added to the table. Problem is I'm not quite sure how to do this. I have tried add a FireBug console.info(eventData) in my current submit function and I have found that the eventData contains an altKey, shiftKey and controlKey property, but they are always undefined even when I hold those keys down. So, does anyone know how I can do something special in my submit handler when certain modifier keys were pressed when the form was submitted?

  • How to reorder table rows (drag-and-drop) along with their sub rows

    - by Eirik Johansen
    I have a table which looks like this (simplified for the example): <table> <tr class="lvl_1"> <td> Level 1 </td> </tr> <tr class="lvl_2"> <td> Level 2 </td> </tr> <tr class="lvl_3"> <td> Level 3 </td> </tr> <tr class="lvl_1"> <td> Level 1 </td> </tr> <tr class="lvl_2"> <td> Level 2 </td> </tr> <tr class="lvl_3"> <td> Level 3 </td> </tr> The content in the rows with the lvl_3 class are children of the previous lvl_2 row, and the lvl_2 rows are children of the previous lvl_1. Had the data been a list, it would have looked something like this: Level 1 -- Level 2 ---- Level 3 Level 1 -- Level 2 ---- Level 3 I'm not looking to implement drag-and-drop sorting functionality, make it possible to rearrange the level 1 and two rows. The tricky part is that once I start moving a row, the corresponding children (and grand-children, if any) should move along with it. Is this even possible with the current markup, or do I have to rearrange the code? Thanks in advance !

  • Canvas Check before submission

    - by smokinguns
    I have a page where a user can draw on the canvas and save the image to a file on the server. The canvas has a default black background. Is there a way to check if the user has drawn anything on the canvas before submitting the data URL representation of the image of a canvas with the toDataURL() function? So if the user doesn't draw anything on the canvas(it will be a blank canvas with a black background), the image wont be created on the server. Should I loop through each and every pixel of the canvas to determine this? Here is what I'm doing currently: var currentPixels = context.getImageData(0, 0, 600, 400); for (var y = 0; y < currentPixels.height; y += 1) { for (var x = 0; x < currentPixels.width; x += 1) { for (var c = 0; c < 3; c += 1) { var i = (y*currentPixels.width + x)*4 + c; if(currentPixels.data[i]!=0) break; } } }
