  • How can I implement "real time" messaging on Google AppEngine?

    - by Freed
I'm creating a web application on Google AppEngine where I want the user to be notified a quickly as possible after certain events occour. The problem is similar to say a chat server in that I need something happening on one connection (someone is writing a message in a chat room) to propagate to a number of other connections (other people in that chat room gets the message). To get speedy updates from the server to the client I'm planning on using long polling with XmlHttpRequest, hoping that AppEngine won't interfere other than possibly restriing the timeout. The real problem however is efficient notification between connections on AppEngine. Is there any support for this type of cross connection notification on AppEngine that does not involve busy-waiting? The only tools I can think of to do this at all is either using the data storage (slow) or memcache (unreliable), and none of them would let me avoid busy-waiting. Note: I know about XMPP support on AppEngine. It's related, but I want a browser based solution, sending messages to the users by XMPP is not an option.

  • Step by Step validation with jquery validation plugin

    - by Alex
I know its been asked many times already but no one could come up with solution so far. The idea is to have one form separated into few steps and validate each step on next click of the button. I know jquery validation plugin is offering quite complicated way of doing it with accordion but can anyone come up with a simple solution something like var stepOne = { rules: { fieldname1: "required", fieldname2: "required", } } $("form").validate(stepOne); //onclick hope someone could suggest the best way of doing it. Thanks.

  • IE7 & IE8 error executing function with ajax

    - by Yahreen
I am loading an ajax page which executes an HTML5 video player script. The function for the Flash fallback is html5media(); : //Load 1st Case Study $("#splash").live('click', function (e) { $(this).fadeOut('slow', function () { $('#case-studies').load('case-study-1.html', function() { html5media(); //initiate Flash fallback }).fadeIn(); }); e.preventDefault(); }); This initial page load works fine in IE7 & IE8. The problem is once this page is loaded, there are links to 4 more videos which are loaded in again using ajax. I use this function: //Switcher function csClients(url, client) { $("#case-studies").fadeOut('slow', function() { $('#case-studies').load(url, function () { html5media(); //initiate Flash fallback }).fadeIn(); }); } //Page Loader $("#cs-client-list li.client1 a").live('click', function(e) { csClients('case-study-1.html', 'client1'); e.preventDefault(); }); Originally I was using return false; but none of the sub-page Flash videos would load in IE7. When I switched to preventDefault, the videos loaded in IE7 but still not in IE8. I also get a weird error in both IE7 & IE8 with no helpful feedback: Error on Page: Unspecified error. / (Line 49) Code: 0 (Char 5) URI: http://www.mysite.com This is line 49 in my index page: <section id="case-studies" class="main-section"> I have a feeling it has to do with calling html5media(); too many times? At a loss...

    function VisibleDiv(obj) { if (obj == BaseLog) { var objStyle = document.getElementById('DivCalls').style; if (objStyle.display == "block") objStyle.display = "none"; else objStyle.display = "block"; } else if (obj == ViewReports) { var objStyle = document.getElementById('DivReports').style; if (objStyle.display == "block") objStyle.display = "none"; else objStyle.display = "block"; } else if (obj ==Management) { var objStyle = document.getElementById('DivManage').style; if (objStyle.display == "block") objStyle.display = "none"; else objStyle.display = "block"; } <a href="#" id="BaseLog" class="TextHeader" onclick="VisibleDiv(this)">Base Log </a> in the above code is working in IE but not working in mozilla 3.6.   • Passing a Variable into jQuery AJAX

    - by Scott
I'm stuck in a rut. I hope some one can help. Basically, I am building an AJAX mobile web app with jQuery. I am able to parse a specific XML file just fine, but I want the option to parse other XML files based on the link they were clicked on and load them on the fly into the same DIV or UL. So: click on Link1, loads XML1 click on Link2, loads XML2 I would like to be able to do this all client side, so no PHP (or is that a bad idea?). This the jquery code I've been using: $(document).ready(function() { $("a.load_ajax").click(loadAjax()); function loadAjax() { var fileID = get('?lineID='); var dataID = "xml/" + fileID + ".xml" $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: dataID, dataType: "xml", success: parseXml }); function parseXml(xml) { $(xml).find("train").each(function() { $("ul#ajax-output").append('<li>' + $(this).find("time").text() + '</li>'); }); } } }); Its just not working at all. I have been passing the variable using GET in the url. So the link in the HTML goes to /?lineID=SBD_to_Union and it should load the XML file called SBD_to_Union.xml Making sense to anyone? I'd appreciate some help.

  • jquery vote up down, request for some help

    - by Billa
I want to make some changes in the following piece of code. The demo of the code can be seen here. http://cyberbuff.noadsfree.com/lab/reddit_votes/ The above example shows calculated number of votes (vote ups - votes down). And when you click on any thumbe, it disappears the thumbs and shows the updated votes. I want to make changes that in begining it shows vote up and vote down separately (which are stored in database separately). and after thumb up or down is pressed, it should not remove the thumbs, but it should show the updated vote up and down separatetly. As shown in the image below. Here are pieces of code: Main page having html/CSS and jquery code. http://pastebin.com/RC6dj6N5 vote processng code: http://pastebin.com/heszKyDc PS. I have tried to change by myself but I could not do. Any help will be much appriciated. Thanks.

  • Is it safe to validate a URL with a regexp?

    - by Vilx-
In my web app I've got a form field where the user can enter an URL. I'm already doing some preliminary client-side validation and I was wondering if I could use a regexp to validate if the entered string is a valid URL. So, two questions: Is it safe to do this with a regexp? A URL is a complex beast, and just like you shouldn't use a regexp for parsing HTML, I'm worried that it might be unsuitable for a URL as well. If it can be done, what would be a good regexp for the task? (I know that Google turns up countless regexps, but I'm worried about their quality). My goal is to prevent a situation where the URL appears in the web page and is unusable by the browser.

  • Why this button doesn't cause triple postback?

    - by focus
We have developed a page with a asp.net and debugging it accidentally we have discovered on our page button with the next code on onclik attribute onclick="__doPostBack('ctl00$FormPlace$m_userTaskMarkAsUnreadButton',''); __doPostBack('ctl00$FormPlace$m_userTaskMarkAsUnreadButton','');WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("ctl00$FormPlace$m_userTaskMarkAsUnreadButton", "", true, "", "", false, false))" It seems that the button do three postbacks but when we click it only cause on postback. With this code seems that de button will cause three postbacks!! We have try it with Internet Explorer and Firefox and the button only cause on postback always. Are browsers who avoid that the button do three postback ? Or Is Asp.net server who avoid the three postback? We don't understand why the button behaves correctly if onclick attribute has three call to do Postbacks. Thanks

  • Image swaping with click on <tr>

    - by Jonny Sooter
    I've edited this piece of code from the Data Tables Plugin witch makes a tr click able and pops open another tr with details from the clicked tr. This piece of code is the event listener for opening and closing. When "details" are open the img should be images/details_close.png and they are closed the img should be images/details_open.png and have a swap occurring when it opens and closes when clicked. What is happening is there is no swap going on when its open or closed I still only get the "details_open.png". I don't knoe if I'm just not selecting the img tag properly or whats going on. Link to project: http://www2.kent.k12.wa.us/ksd/it/www/mobile/elementary.html $('#example tbody').on('click', 'td', function (e) { var myImage = $(this).find("img"); var nTr = $(this).parents('tr')[0]; if ( oTable.fnIsOpen(nTr) ) { /* This row is already open - close it */ myImage.src = "images/details_open.png"; oTable.fnClose( nTr ); } else { /* Open this row */ myImage.src = "images/details_close.png"; oTable.fnOpen( nTr, fnFormatDetails(oTable, nTr), 'details' ); } } );

  • How do I extend this regex to match www.example.com in addition to http://example.com?

    - by algorithmicCoder
I've got a regex for detecting links that works pretty well for urls of the form http://example.com, http://www.example.com etc but not for www.example.com I am trying to extend what i have so that www.foo.com also gets matched without breaking previous functionality. I tried this: /\(?\b((http|https|ftp):\/\/|)(www\.)[-A-Za-z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_()|!:,.;]*[-A-Za-z0-9+&@#\/%=~_()|]/ but this only works when www is present and doesn't work e.g. for http://example.com ...

  • Randomly Position A Div

    - by Connie
I'm looking for a way to randomly position a div anywhere on a page (ONCE per load). I'm currently programming a PHP-based fantasy pet simulation game. One of the uncommon items on the game is a "Four Leaf Clover." Currently, users gain "Four Leaf Clovers" through random distribution - but I would like to change that (it's not interactive enough!). What I Am Trying To Do: The idea is to make users search for these "Four Leaf Clovers" by randomly placing this image anywhere on the page: (my rendition of a four leaf clover) I'd like to do this using a Java/Ajax script that generates a div, and then places it anywhere on the page. And does not move it once it's been placed, until the page is reloaded. I've tried so many Google searches, and the closest thing that I've found so far is this (click), from this question. But, removing the .fadein, .delay, and .fadeout stopped the script from working entirely. I'm not by any means a pro with Ajax. Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

  • What's the best graphics library for node.js for image cropping?

    - by Travis
I'm creating a website using node.js. I have seen many libraries mentioned that piggy back on top of imagemagick etc. There is a list here: https://github.com/ry/node/wiki/modules#graphics What I'm trying to do is take the image that a user uploads, crop it/size it to certain dimensions the site requires. What is the best/most active script to do this? I'd like one with npm support. Does anyone have actual experience using some of these?

  • Resize jqGrid based on number of rows?

    - by Rosdi
I want my jqGrid to shrink and expand based on the number of rows it has. Let say it currently has 10 rows, the height of the jqGrid will shrink to 10 rows (so that no gaping empty rows is exposed). If however there are too many rows, the height of the grid will expand to a maximum 'height' value and a scroll bar will appear.

  • Using input type="submit" to change content

    - by Conti
Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm missing something very obvious here, but I just couldn't find a proper solution so far. What I'm trying to do is simple: Have a user write something into a form, have him submit the form, and write that input into a textarea on the same page. This is my code: <html><head></head> <body> <form name='registration'> <label for="input">Input:</label> <input type="text" id="input"/> <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" onclick="execute()"/> </form> <div id="results"> <span>Result</span> <span><textarea cols="30" rows="5" id="resulttext" readonly="readonly"></textarea> </span> </div> <script> function execute() { var result = document.getElementById("input").value document.getElementById("resulttext").value=result; } </script> </body> </html> Now what happens if I enter something into the form is that the textarea briefly shows my input before reverting back to showing nothing. My guess is that the textarea field is only changed for the duration of the execute() function. When I change input type="submit" to a <button> everything works as intended, but I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to do that.

  • How to define an angular directive inside an angular directive's link function?

    - by user2316667
I want to create an angular directive inside of a link function, however; the directive created is not able to be compiled. See this JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/v47uvsj5/5/ Uncommenting this directive in the global space works as expected. app.directive('test', function () { return { templateUrl: 'myform', // wraps script tag with id 'myform' restrict: 'E', require: "^mydir", replace: true, scope: { }, link: function (scope, element, attrs, mydirCtrl) { scope.remove = function () { element.remove(); mydirCtrl.remove(); } } } }); But the exact same code inside the link function fails. The reason I want to do this is because I want the user (who is going to be myself) to be able to provide only a script tag's id via an id attribute to my main directive which will in turn create a 'wrapper' directive with a 'remove' method. This way, in the script tag, all one needs to do is implement the 'remove'.

  • I can't see a cropper in IE7/8. No problem in FF and the demo (with IE7/8).

    - by user248959
Hi, i have this cropper in my app. login: fer password: m Note: after loginning you will be redirected to another page. Then click again the link i mention. I can see it working in FF, but not in IE7/8 (Windows XP SP2, just installed). It's supposed it works ok, because I don't have any problems to operate the demo in both browsers, and in IE 8 Developer Tools the all the .js's necessary appeared as loaded. I have contacted with the developer of the cropper but he didn't reply. Any idea? Javi

  • Starting an ASP.NET MVC 4 project. Is it necessary to use RequireJS if I'm using bundling?

    - by SCS
If RequireJS makes it so that multiple js files are combined into a single main.js file, is it essentially the same as ASP.NET's script bundling functionality? Would the only bonus of using RequireJS in addition to bundling be the ability to have certain scripts be loaded according to RequireJS configuration? I'm very new to both bundling and RequireJS, but after doing some reading, it seems like bundling takes care of multiple requests to load several js files. Are there any other things I might be missing out on with regards to using RequireJS with bundling?

  • How to append() an element and set its style with css() at the same time with jQuery

    - by Acorn
I tried: $('#canvas').append('<div class="tile"></div>').css({left: leftPos, top: topPos});, but that sets the style of #canvas rather than the appended element. I then tried: $('#canvas').append(('<div class="tile"></div>').css({left: leftPos, top: topPos}));, but that gives the error "Object <div class="tile"></div> has no method 'css'". How can I add the element and set its style at the same time?
