  • Infinite scrolling in Silverlight

    - by shannon.stewart
I've found a few questions about infinite scrolling already posted, but none were about Silverlight, so I thought I'd ask. I've done some initial searching, but haven't been able to find any reference material on how to implement infinite scrolling in Silverlight. This is more of a brain-storming exercise so I can get some thoughts on different ways to implement this.

  • Are there reasons why the java/spring/hibernate stack aren't popular in the web 2.0 space?

    - by Blankman
I am really impressed with the java/spring/hibernate stack, and really want to dive in. Just curious, why are so many people using rails when java/spring/hibernate are tried and true? I guesss its because of the convention over configuration and time to launch? (spring has really gone the annotation route so less xml though). I realize this is subjective, but just looking for some thoughts on this.

  • Problem with Xcode organizer screen capture

    - by paul_sns
I'm currently running Xcode 3.2.2 on Snow Leopard. When opening Organizer Screenshots I see a list of screenshots I did before. But when I click the Capture button, nothing's happening. I don't see any messages popping up or any errors from the Console tab. I also tried restoring the iPod Touch (2nd gen) but that didn't help. Any thoughts? Thanks!

  • How can I make kml data in google earth look like google maps?

    - by celenius
I have a program that generates a .shp file, and exports this as a kml file. I would like to be able to display my output using the standard google map 'map' style (gray background, yellow streets, etc) in google earth. Is there a style guide or method that I should be using? Any thoughts appreciated - I wasn't sure how to structure this question. Thank you.

  • Pygame Font not consistent

    - by Smashery
I'm working on a program in python+pygame with some other developers, and we're seeing the same font rendered differently. It's a free font that we're distributing with the game. On my machine, this particular font is rendering 10px lower than on another developer's machine. Any thoughts on why this is?

  • Why does yaml.dump add quotes this key-value pair

    - by jason gagne
    I'm trying to write a new entry to a rails database.yml and for some reason I'm getting quotes around this entry db_yml = {'new_env' = {'database' = 'database_name', '<<' = '*defaults' }} File.open("#{RAILS_ROOT}/config/database.yml", "a") {|f| YAML.dump(db_yml, f)} returns --- new_env: database: database_name "<<": "*defaults" I don't know why the "---" and the quotes around the defaults are returned, any thoughts on how to prevent? thanks!

  • ruby write newline character to file but do not interpret as a true newline

    - by thomas
I am trying to write a ruby string to a file in such a way that any newline characters embedded in the string remain embedded. This is being written out to a file which will then be processed by another tool. An example is below. I want this: 1 [label="this is a\ntest"] \n (second \n is a true newline) I have tried this: string = '1 [label="this is a\ntest"]' + "\n" Any thoughts?

  • PNGs alpha transparancy in AS3 - Unknown file-type

    - by WiseDonkey
    Hello there! After whittling down of the options we've encountered a problem with PNG's and ActionScript 3 (AS3). When loading a PNG 8 or PNG 32 with alpha transparancy we're getting the following error reported in Flash:- "Error #2124: Loaded file is an unknown type" Now, we're dealing with some legacy images, and it appears as though this problem isn't universal - some images believed to be 32bit alpha PNG are loading. BUT, some conclusions:- converting one image that was 32 bit alpha (NOT WORKING IN AS3) to PNG 8 index transparency DID work. And converting that same image to PNG 8 alpha DID NOT work. These all worked in AS2 There is no difference between the headers Headers of a Failing Image [0] => HTTP/1.1 200 OK [1] => Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2010 14:17:28 GMT [2] => Server: Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) [3] => Last-Modified: Tue, 06 Apr 2010 13:44:05 GMT [4] => ETag: "3700054-11d6-a3983340" [5] => Accept-Ranges: bytes [6] => Content-Length: 4566 [7] => Connection: close [8] => Content-Type: image/png Headers of a Working Image [0] => HTTP/1.1 200 OK [1] => Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2010 14:19:02 GMT [2] => Server: Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) [3] => Last-Modified: Fri, 30 Oct 2009 18:38:08 GMT [4] => ETag: "ba8057-65f2-5445c400" [5] => Accept-Ranges: bytes [6] => Content-Length: 26098 [7] => Connection: close [8] => Content-Type: image/png Any thoughts of a direction of further investigation or thoughts on a bewildering problem with little to no documentation; very warmly welcomed. EDIT Now it would appear as though something in the PHP conversion of the images is shafting; I use the following PHP to add alpha layers:- imagealphablending($image_p, false); ImageSaveAlpha($image_p, true); ImageFill($image_p, 0, 0, IMG_COLOR_TRANSPARENT);

What is the performance of f# like in terms of both memory and speed? I am particularly interested in your thoughts about what real world applications are viable. Benchmarks would be particularly relevant.

  • Rendering javascript at the server side level. A good or bad idea?

    - by davidhong
I want to make it clear first: This isn't a question in relation to server-side Javascript or running Javascript server side. This is a question regarding rendering of Javascript code (which will be executed on the client-side) from server-side code. Having said that, take a look at below ASP.net code for example: hlRemoveCategory.Attributes.Add("onclick", "return confirm('Are you sure you want to delete this?');") This is prescribing the client-side onclick event on the server-side. As oppose to: $('a[rel=remove]').bind('click', function(event) { return confirm('Are you sure you want to delete this?'); } Now the question I want to ask is: What is the benefit of rendering javascript from the server-side code? Or the vice-versa? I personally prefer the second way of hooking up client-side UI/behaviour to HTML elements for the following reasons: Server-side does what ever it needs to already, including data-validation, event delegation and etc; and What server-side sees as an event is not necessarily the same process on the client-side. i.e., there are plenty more events on client-side (just look at custom events); and What happens on client-side and on server-side, during an event, could be completely irrelevant and decoupled; and What ever happens on client-side happens on client-side, there is no need for the server to know. Server should process and run what is given to them, how the process comes to life is not really up to them to decide in the event of the client-side events; and so and so forth. These are my thoughts obviously. I want to know what others think and if there has been any discussions on this topic. Topics branching from this argument can reach: Code management: is it easier to render everything from server-side? Separation of concern: is it easier if client-side logic is separated to server-side logic? Efficiency: which is more efficient both in terms of coding and running? At the end of the day, I am trying to move my team to go towards the second approach. There are lot of old guys in this team who are afraid of this change. I just wish to convince them with the right facts and stats. Let me know your thoughts.

  • PHP to Mesh 2 PDF'S Together or not?

    - by Justin
I have an already pre-designed PDF, and I would like to fill the PDF with some database information. So I'm curious if I should save the PDF into JPG's and render them out with the data on top of the image and re-create a PDF. Or is there a way to use the PDF already, and print data into the PDF that is already made? I am trying to figure out the best solution to generating this type of PDF. All thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

  • Mapping a ER model to Rails

    - by Thiago
Hi there, I want to map the following ER schema to rails: I have an entity called "user" which has a self relationship called "has friend", which has an attribute called "status". In code, I would like to run: User.friends and it should return me an array of users, containing the users that I'm friend of. It shouldn't matter in which side of the relationship I am (i.e. whether I'm the friender or the friendee). Any thoughts?
