• NSIS Uninstaller Working Directory

  I am using NSIS to create my installers/uninstallers, and the uninstaller seems to have a weird behavior. I don't put the installer in $INSTDIR, it is located at $INSTDIR/subdir/uninstall.exe (it's a addon installer for a host application). When I run the installer then, it thinks the application installation root is $INSTDIR/subdir instead of $INSTDIR. It then can't find all the files in subdir/* as it's already in subdir. If I move the executable, it seems to just accept the current directory as where the application installation root is. I can move it to $INSTDIR and all is well. Thanks.

• WPF Composite - Expose EF model to all modules

  Hi All, I have an application that uses WPF Composite, and I have an issue. I've got a big database that is attached to the application and I need it exposed to different modules as part of the application. What is the best way to expose my Entity Framework model to all my different modules and views inside them? Do I have one EF model or a separate one for each module and then only the tables that each module needs. The only problem being that some tables have a relationship and will have different views and those views will be in different modules. Any ideas how to resolve this?

• Code Analysis Error: Declare types in namespaces

  Is VS2010, I analyzed my code and got this error: Warning 64 CA1050 : Microsoft.Design : 'ApplicationVariables' should be declared inside a namespace. C:\My\Code\BESI\BESI\App_Code\ApplicationVariables.vb 10 C:\...\BESI\ Here is some reference info on the error. Essentially, I tried to create a class to be used to access data in the Application object in a typed way. The warning message said unless I put my (ApplicationVariables) class in a Namespace, that I wouldn't be able to use it. But I am using it, so what gives? Also, here is a link to another StackOverflow article that talks about how to disable this warning in VS2008, but how would you disable it for 2010? There is no GlobalSuppressions.vb file for VS2010. • Cocoa : Scale Image dragged into an ImageWell

  I am working on application to keep a comic book collection in order. The user should be able to drag an image of the cover artwork into the program via an ImageWell. Since it is not possible to drag the image out of the application again I don't need to save the picture in it's original size. An image at the size of the ImageWell would be just fine. The question is how do I rescale the image with my application? To make things even more complicated the ImageWell is bound with Core Data. So I need to rescale the image before Core Data will save the picture in its original size.

• Can I build a VPN on top of Tor?

  If I understand correctly, the Tor client works as a combination of a proxy server and application plugins (such as the Firefox Torbutton) that enable use of the proxy and contain additional application-specific privacy features (such as suppressing cookies, sandboxing JavaScript, turning off Flash). That works very well with applications that support it (such as Firefox). But is there a way to establish a VPN over Tor, so that my whole Wifi network can be protected, including applications that do not support proxy configuration and devices like iPod touches?

  Hi, I am new to Java and Linux. I have a JSP site and a java web service deployed on a GlassFish server (working OK). I need to change the port of both the application and web-service. I have changed the listener port in the domain.xml file, but the web application is still trying to connect to the WSDL on port 8080. How can I change the configuration of the web service port? What are the different ways in which the above mentioned can be achieved? iPhone has Storekit framework that enables in-app purchases. So, our requirements wants us to follow the suit. Also, according to Android Markets(AM) distribution agreement, an Android application published via AM, is not allowed to accept payments from any Payment collectors other than the one Market provides and/or Google checkout. We have decided to integrate Paypal, now that they have published Mobile Payments Library to Android developers. If we do so, can we publish our application on Android Market?

  Ok so I'm not in a table cell at this point. (I've seen a lot of threads regarding the height of cells.) I have a detail view with a title and description at the top of the view, followed by a tableView below it. If the description is going to vary in length, how do I get the tableView to adjust with it accordingly so it always starts directly below it? I see apple doing this in the app store application. If you look at an application description (as if you were going to buy it), they have an application description, and wherever that ends a scrolling pane of screenshots follow. How do they do the varying height on the text description like that? Are they doing this all programmatically or can I use the layout controls in IB to do the same thing?

• Why can't I see any data in the Google App Engine *Development* Console?

  I run my google app engine application in one of two ways... Directly by using the application from http://localhost:8080 Or execute unit tests from http://localhost:8080/test When I create entities by using the application directly, the data is visible in the Development Console (dataStore view). However, when I execute the unit tests... even if they succeed and I can put() and get() data, the data does not show in the dataStore view. Any idea why I can't see my data? Even though it is there? Notes: I use GAEUnit for unit tests. the data stored mostly consists of StringProperties(). I use Python and run Django on top of the GAE, don't know if that matters.

  This relates to my recent question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2835663/force-oracle-error-on-fetch I am now able to reproduce a scenario where using ADO with the Oracle OLEDB Provider, I can force an error such as ORA-01722: invalid number to occur on calling Recordset.MoveNext However, this is not the error that is returned to the application. Instead, the application sees Provider error '80004005' Unspecified error. How can I get the application to see the real error from the database? This is with Oracle 10g (client and server), if it matters.   In Visual Studio 2008 (and others) when creating a .NET or silverlight application if you look at your project properties, it seems like you can only have one assembly name - across all configurations. I would like to compile my application as: MyAppDebug - in debug mode and just MyApp - in release mode Does anyone know if this is possible? Edit: It seems some people are questioning the reasoning behind the question, so I'll explain a little further: I'm working on a Silverlight application which gets automatically uploaded to our test site when I to a "build solution". The trouble is, the test team are now testing the online version, whilst I work on a new one. So, I want to have a url like .\MyApp.html for the regular version that the QA team will test and then .\MyApp.html?version=debug for the current version that I'm working on.

So I created one MVC application in visual studio and everything is working fine on localhost as a separate application. Now I want to host this MVC app also inside the website I have already deployed. I created a virtual directory(MVCDir) inside the default website in IIS 6.0. • PHP: How should I move my code from dev to production?

  I have created a PHP web-application. I have 3 environments: DEV, TEST, PROD. What's a good tool / business practice for me to move my PHP web-application code from DEV to TEST to the PROD environment? Realizing that my TEST environment still only connects to my TEST database; whereas, I need to PROD environment to connect to my PROD database. So the code is mostly the same, except that I need to change my TEST code once moved into PROD to connect to the PROD database and not TEST database. I've heard of people taking down Apache in such away that it doesn't allow new connections and once all the existing connections are idle it simply brings down the web server. Then people manually copy the code and then manually update the config files of the PHP application to also point to the PROD instance. That seems terribly dangerous. Does a best practice exists?

  Very slow processing using Windows Server2008 R2 Standard with Service Pack One. Situation: Read a text file using the text data to populate a series of MS Sql tables. The converted data is used to generate monthly PDF invoice files; the PDF files are saved directly to the hard drive. The application is multi-threading with one thread used for the text conversion and three threads for PDF invoice generation. The text conversion is occurring concurrently with the invoice generation. Application Software: C# using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. Crystal Report Writer 2011 with runtime 13_0_3 64 bit version. Targeted platform is x64; also tested as x86, and Any CPU with similar results. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. Microsoft Sql 2008 Issue: The software is running very slowly. The conversion of the text file is approximately six hundred fifty records per second and generation of the PDF files is approximately twelve invoices per minute. The text file to be converted is six hundred Meg with seven thousand invoices to be generated. The software was installed on three different machines from the same distribution files. The same text file was converted on each machine. The user executing the application was an administrator on each machine. The only variances were the machine and operating system. The configurations are as follows: Server: Operating System: Windows Server2008 R2 Standard 64-bit (6.1, Build7601) SP1 Service Pack: System Manufacturer: IBM System Model: System x3550 M3-[7944AC1]- BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel® Xeon® CPU E5620@ 2.4GHz (16 CPUs) Memory: 16384MB Notebook: Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium Standard 64-bit (6.1, Build7601) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: AMD Phenom II N640 Dual-Core Processor 2.9GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 6144MB Desktop: Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build7601) SP1 System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. System Model: OptiPlex 960 BIOS: Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A11 Processor: Intel Core™2 Quad CPU Q9650 @3.00GHZ (4 CPUs) Memory: 16384MB Processing results per machine: The applications were executed seven times with the averages being displayed below. • .Net C#: support differnt Office versions

  We created an application that uses Office 2007 (Excel 2007) to read in data from an Excel worksheet. However. I noticed that when I want to deploy the application on a system with Office 2003 installed, it crashes because other PIA's (and other dll's) need to be referenced for this version of office. Do I need to compile different versions of my application to be able to support different versions of Office or is there a more ellegant solution for this problem? I use Visual Studio 2010 (C#) and the .Net 4.0 platform. Many thanks Chris

• Cant open Nerd Dinner 1.0 VS 2008 SP1 MVC 2

  I was trying to download some ASP.NET MVC Sample application to learn MVC. I tried Music Store and TownHall but they wont open in my VS2008.So I tried the common Nerddinner 1.0 but it gives error "The project Type is not supported by this installation" . I tried the 3rd Method suggested in the following post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1002907/cant-open-nerddinner-project-in-vs2008 This is about changing the project type GUIDS.Now the project loads but when I run it throws an exception <add assembly="System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> I presume this is happening because the Nerddinner 1.0 is for MVC 1.0 and I have MVC 2.0 installed. How do I proceed now. I have spent a lot of time trying to get an MVC application working on my PC. I am happy if I can get any properly architected , MVC application of medium to high complexity to work on my PC. thanks
