  I have an Ajaxable application which has some UpdateProgress for each postBack events. everything is good and working great. I want to display another Indicator in my SiteMapPath bar which shows a post back is happening no matter what. For example when user clicks on a button an UpdateProgress display an Indicator Image in central part of application. I want to display another image ( for every postbacks not only for one) in top of application toolbar. Currently I use a simple Flag out ther and I want to use an indicator instead of that flag when ever a postback happens Thank you in advance

  I have the Windows Phone 7.1 SDK on my computer with Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have developped an application but when I want to start it in emulator, it takes about 2 hours to load it, and it's just the O/S! The application isn't started!   I'd like my application to query a csv file from a secure website. I have no experience with web programming so I'd appreciate detailed instructions. Currently I have the user login to the site, manually query the csv, and have my application load the file locally. I'd like to automate this by having the user enter his login information, authenticating him on the website, and querying the data. The application is written in C# .NET. The url of the site is: https://www2.emidas.com/default.asp. I've tested the following code already and am able to access the file once the user has already authenticated himself and created a manual query. • Programatically get own Phone Number in iPhone OS 4.0

  I am developing an iPhone application for jail broken phones and in this application I would like to fetch user's phone number. I have gone through the entire stackoverflow.com and found some relevant answers but all of them are obsolete and doesn't work with iOS 4.0 anymore. The most famous solution for this problem is NSString *num = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] stringForKey:@"SBFormattedPhoneNumber"]; but as I mentioned this solution no more works with iOS 4.0 As my application is intended towards the jail broken phones and not intended the Apple app store so I am not worried about my app rejection, hence any private API will also work for me. Also please let me know if we can fetch IMSI number from SIM using any private APIs of iPhone

  Hello everyone. I am using wxPython and Py2exe to create my application and my only problem is loading for example bitmaps. Ok so lets say I want to add an image to my application, and thats fairly easy using wxPython, and lets say it is on the same directory of my .py so for example: image = wx.StaticBitmap(self, -1, wx.Bitmap('image.bmp') Now, this works obviously fine, problem is when I convert to Py2exe, I would like to use the resources from the dlls that I included in the Py2Exe compilation. So basically what I want to do is to instead of including the images on the same folder as my application in order to work, I would like to use it from the resources so people won't see the images on the folder.

  In my 3.5 .net web application I have a background thread that does a lot of work (the application is similar to mint.com in that it does a lot of account aggregation on background threads). I do extensive exception handling within the thread performing the aggregation but there's always the chance an unhandled exception will be thrown and my entire application will die. I've read some articles about this topic but they all seem fairly outdated and none of them implement a standard approach. Is there a standard approach to this nowadays? Is there any nicer way to handle this in ASP.NET 4.0?

• chained msi's/Bootstrapper/prerequisite?

  I have a few component msi packages that need to installed together to form the end application. The problem is: the components that make up the package can be updated and the component relaunched on the http file server.What approach should i take? The installer that i am writing is the 'master' installer. Which needs to be able to read what version of each component is installed on ther client machine in order to perform an upgrade only on that one component. Also if the application is installed for the first time the installer will download and install all required components. I am using Installshield 2009. I have looked into chained MSI's but the master installer is empty. as it needs to be as lightweight as possible. I have no idea how to write a bootstrapper application and my company perfers that i use installshield to write the installer. I have researched - and apparently pre-requisites are not meant to be uninstalled.

  I am implementing a comet using AsyncHttpHandlers in my current asp.net application. According to my implementation client initially sends Notification Hook request to server (with its user id) on AsyncHttpHandler, and on server side I maintain a Global (Application level) dictionary of userid(key) and IAynsResult (value). So when ever a request is received to send notification to a user I just pick the matching IAsyncResult from the Global Dictionary and send response to the client user. My concern is, is maintaing a Dictionary of Userid and IAsyncResult at Application level a good design? I feel it will put a lot of load on the server, at the time of high traffic. Is there any other way I can achieve the comet. or what will be the good design to achieve comet for high traffic scenarios.

  As noted by the title, what is the best way to configure an IIS 6.0 deployment of an ASP.NET MVC application such that connections to hidden shares are ignored? The application in question is using wildcard mapping to allow for clean URLs since we are planning on upgrading to IIS 7.0 in the near future and we are also handling the caching and compression issues with a custom library so we would like to avoid turning wildcard mapping off unless absolutely necessary.   Hi, I have deployed my application on subdomain.domain.com (it works only on that one subdomain). Everything works fine except the fact that from time to time users cannot log in to application (the message "Looks like your browser isn't configured to accept cookies. Please enable cookies, reload this page, and try again" is shown when trying to log into admin panel). I've noticed that restarting the web server eliminates this problem for some time. Does anyone have experience with setting up django project on subdomain and can guide me how to configure my application to make it work correctly without need to ocasionally make reset?

• How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, experiences and guidance.

  I have a c#/winforms application that uses directx to play some video and audio. whenever i start my application in debugmode i get this annoying message. i can click "continue" and everything seems to work fine. but i still want to get rid of this message. it does not show up in releasemode.   In my web application I have various components that need to access the currently authenticated user (HttpContext.User). There are two obvious ways a component can access this: 1) Accessing getting the User from HttpContext.Current 2) Passing the user around in constructors Is not ideal because it makes testing difficult and ties application components to web concerns, when they really shouldn't know about it. Is just messy and complicates everything. So I've been thinking about passing in the current user (or perhaps just the name/id) to any component that needs it using an IoC container (via dependency injection). Is anyone using this technique to supply the current ASP.NET user to parts of the application? Or, Does this sound like a sensible approach? I would like know how this has worked out for people. Any ideas? The Application code works perfecty with any query so its not application code error but prolly some "super cool feature" from ODP.NET. Already tried to_number, to_whatever and same error always happens.

  Hello I am working on internal PHP application where users login only from our network (we are on dedicated IP and application is checking $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] and if is match our IP go thru if not - Bye However how I can identify from which station user is login ? Using cookie not gonna work - those are windows station working under control MS StedyState and all cookies are deleted every login I don't need nothing fancy like full MAC address just any unique ID (can not be application username - because users use different stations) Any ideas ? Maybe Javascript is able to grab some Unique detail from station's browser (IE 8) and pass this as hidden input? bensiu

  Host Configuration: HP EliteBook 8530w 4G Ram Win7 Ultimate 64Bit RC SQL Server 2005 64bit Developer Edition Virtual: Windows Virtual PC 1G Ram allocated Integration Services installed Windows XP 64bit Up to date service packs and .Net framework through 3.5 SP1 Sharing the Gigabit network adapter of the Host I have a simple .Net console application which loads a dataset of approximately 37K rows. Running the application on the host executes in approximately 4 seconds. Running inside the virtual takes 729 seconds. The size of the application grows to about 65Mb when the dataset is finished loading, no calculated columns or event handlers are attached. [edit] I changed the virtual to use a loopback adapter to communicate with the host and performance is now on par with running on hardware. Any ideas as to why it would going over the network adapter be almost 200x longer? TraceRt shows that the connection is only one hop. Thanks, Shane Holder

• Does Windows 7 have a Kiosk Mode?

  I'm writing a Kiosk on a Windows 7 computer. The Kiosk is on a touch screen computer, that will not have a keyboard. The application is a WPF application running the .NET Framework version 3.5. I'm having problems with the progress bar task bar showing up (blinking) at the bottom of the screen. This unfortunately gives the user access to the background operating system. Is there someway to lock a full screen application window into the front of the screen without using it on-top-of-everything mode. Some sort of Kiosk mode, or some tool that was designed for this.

  my applicationen consists of App.cs/App.xaml and some other files. Everything is compiled to an exe file. However, I want a 2. application, which should reference the first one. In this Application is a class derived from App. But when I call the the Run() function I get an very stragne error in a xaml code of the first application, saying that some image files could not be loaded. I had a similar architecture when i was using Windows Forms and it worked fine.
