  • Naming Convention for Blackberry Development

    - by Nirmal
I have gone through with some of the sample examples of blackberry. And in some classes I have found some variables are starting from _ like _address and some of them are ALLCAPS. So, i guess it's bit different then the basic Java naming conventions. So, can anybody let me know that is there any difference between Java and blackberry naming convention ? Thanks in advance.

  • Website Reviewing Application/Interface

    - by Eric Di Bari
I am the technology director at a small nonprofit, and we are in the process of making a new website. We have several proposed mock-ups of different homepage designs, and need to receive input from our board members. Is there an online application/program/framework that will receive and organize user comments? I'm looking for something that will allow commenting while viewing the page, rather than just a message board or wiki.

  • Akka framework support for finding duplicate messages

    - by scala_is_awesome
I'm trying to build a high-performance distributed system with Akka and Scala. If a message requesting an expensive (and side-effect-free) computation arrives, and the exact same computation has already been requested before, I want to avoid computing the result again. If the computation requested previously has already completed and the result is available, I can cache it and re-use it. However, the time window in which duplicate computation can be requested may be arbitrarily small. e.g. I could get a thousand or a million messages requesting the same expensive computation at the same instant for all practical purposes. There is a commercial product called Gigaspaces that supposedly handles this situation. However there seems to be no framework support for dealing with duplicate work requests in Akka at the moment. Given that the Akka framework already has access to all the messages being routed through the framework, it seems that a framework solution could make a lot of sense here. Here is what I am proposing for the Akka framework to do: 1. Create a trait to indicate a type of messages (say, "ExpensiveComputation" or something similar) that are to be subject to the following caching approach. 2. Smartly (hashing etc.) identify identical messages received by (the same or different) actors within a user-configurable time window. Other options: select a maximum buffer size of memory to be used for this purpose, subject to (say LRU) replacement etc. Akka can also choose to cache only the results of messages that were expensive to process; the messages that took very little time to process can be re-processed again if needed; no need to waste precious buffer space caching them and their results. 3. When identical messages (received within that time window, possibly "at the same time instant") are identified, avoid unnecessary duplicate computations. The framework would do this automatically, and essentially, the duplicate messages would never get received by a new actor for processing; they would silently vanish and the result from processing it once (whether that computation was already done in the past, or ongoing right then) would get sent to all appropriate recipients (immediately if already available, and upon completion of the computation if not). Note that messages should be considered identical even if the "reply" fields are different, as long as the semantics/computations they represent are identical in every other respect. Also note that the computation should be purely functional, i.e. free from side-effects, for the caching optimization suggested to work and not change the program semantics at all. If what I am suggesting is not compatible with the Akka way of doing things, and/or if you see some strong reasons why this is a very bad idea, please let me know. Thanks, Is Awesome, Scala

  • Getting multiple values with scanf()

    - by Josh Curren
I am using scanf() to get a set of ints from the user. But I would like the user to supply all 4 ints at once instead of 4 different promps. I know I can get one value by doing: scanf( "%i", &minx); But I would like the user to be able to do something like: Enter Four Ints: 123 234 345 456 Is it possible to do this?

  • Get Windows mobile sound level, especially silent mode

    - by Sam
In Windows Mobile (5,6) you can have different sound volume settings. The volume itself is easy, but how do I differ between the two silent settings? There is one volume setting "vibration only" and one "no sound, no vibration at all". Since my program is using vibration, I'd like to know if windows mobile is set to "no vibration at all", so I don't annoy the user when he wants his phone to be absolutely silent.

  • Is there a mean to specify specialization-genralization (inheritance) of actors in UML?

    - by Ivan
I am just starting to use UML and have came to the following question: Some actors clearly are specialized versions of a natural entity. For example I've got Administrator and User actors which are clearly nothing but different roles of a user, Authorizer and Dispatcher which are services (and are going to be implemented this way). Should I just ignore these facts while modelling actors and use cases or specify it some way? I think I could make good use of such a specification to facilitate code generation.

  • Issues with subnavigation menus changing positions when using CSS in IE7

    - by Jacinda Littlefield
The subnavigation menus (located just below the blue tabbed navigation) are showing up in a different position in IE7--they display correctly in Firefox and IE8: https://www.diservio.com/newsite/vehicle/auto-insurance.html I created a separate IE7 CSS file and added conditional comments in the HTML. Here are the properties I modified: topnav {padding-bottom: 10px;} subnavbg h3 {margin: -663px 0 0 -340px;} subnavmenu ul {margin: -663px 0 0 -340px;} leftsubnav {MARGIN: -601px 0 0 -550px;} Here's a portion of what the HTML looks like--all of the divs are nested inside the main div #container (not displayed): <div id="subplacement"> <div id="maincontent"> ... <h1>Auto Insurance</h1> <p>At Tony DiServio Insurance we know how important it is for you to protect yourself and your loved ones when you get behind the wheel.</p> </div> </div> ... <div id="subnavmenu"> <ul> <li><a href="auto-insurance.html" id="autolink" title="Auto Insurance Link"><span>Auto</span></a></li> <li><a href="motorcycle-insurance.html" id="cyclelink" title="Motorcycle Insurance Link"><span>Motorcycle</span></a></li> <li><a href="boat-insurance.html" id="boatlink" title="Boat Insurance Link"><span>Boat</span></a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="leftsubnav"> <ul> <li><a href="auto-coverage.html" id="coverlink" title="Coverage Link"><span>Coverage</span></a></li> </ul> </div> </div> The submenus are also bounced into different positions on the Home Vehicle page and Vehicle Auto Insurance Auto Coverage page. I can't figure out why. Any suggestions on what I need to fix for IE7?

  • Tool to generated rotated versions of an image

    - by John
In sprite-based systems, it's common to fake rotation of a sprite by having many different images, each showing it rotated an extra few degrees. Is there any free tool which will take a single image, and output a single image containing several rotations? It should also ideally let us control how many images are in each row. e.g if I have a 32x32 sprite and I want it rotated at 10 degree intervals, the tool might generate a 320x32 file or a 160x64 file

  • Scope of Derived Tables in SQL Server

    - by FailBoy
I've been looking into SQL recently and exploring a bit. in regards to Temp Tables I have discovered 3 different temp table types: 1) CREATE TABLE #TempTable 2) DECLARE TABLE @TempTable 3) SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM Customers) AS TempTable Now I understand the scope behind the #TempTable and the @TempTable types, but what about the derived table as in example 3? Where does this derived table get stored? and if it is declared in 1 transaction, can a 2nd transaction access it, or is the scoping of Derived Tables that same as example 1 and 2?

  • What is a good Ruby on Rails hosting service?

    - by Owen
I'm looking to deploy a new Ruby on Rails project I'm working on but need hosting. A managed server is overkill for me. I just need shared space. I'd like to go with a service that specializes in Ruby on Rails. I've looked at SpeedyRails and RailsPlayground and they both seem to have pros and cons. Does anyone have experience with either? Does anyone have a different recommendation?

  • scrapping blog contents

    - by goh
Hi lads, After obtaining the urls for various blogspots, tumblr and wordpress pages, I faced some problems processing the html pages. The thing is, i wish to distinguish between the content, title and date for each blog post. I might be able to get the date through regex, but there are so many custom scripts people are using now that the html classes and structure is so different. Does anyone has a solution that may help?
