  • Where to store global variables like file paths in java ?

    - by Jules Olléon
In my application I use some icons. Where should I store the path of the directory containing those icons ? The icons are used in different classes so it doesn't really make sense to store them in one of those classes in particular. I read that global variables are evil, but is it acceptable to use a class (eg Commons) containing only public static final fields to store this king of data ? What solution is used in professional applications ?

  • Imagecache for non image CCKs?

    - by Marc Bria
I'm creating a view with images, videos, audio and documents (books) and I like to shown a picture of each of them in a carousel. Everything works nicely with images and videos as far as we added a image-thumbnail (image filefield) to their CCK but we like to show a default image for audio and documents without changing the original CCK. Is it possible with imagecache (may be with imagecache_custom_code or views_custom_php) or we need to look for a different approach? Thanks for your help, m.

  • What does Protected Internal means in .Net

    - by vaibhav
Protected Means, we can access this member only in a deriving class, and internal means we can access this member in any type in the same assembly using a object. So can I consider a Protected Internal member as a public member in the same assembly. and as a protected member in the different assembly.

  • MP3 codec for WAV files

    - by Don Reba
Wav files support different encodings, including mp3. Is there a C/C++ library that would produce mp3-encoded wav files from uncompressed wav? If not, what would be the best place to start to implement one?

  • Developing multiple user interfaces for an application

    - by denizkocak
I want to develop an application which has a graphical user interface that could be developed by using different widget toolkits. For example I want to use Qt, GTK+ or even ncurses as a building block for my user interface for the same application. Moreover users could choose which GUI implementation will be used during the next startup of the application without recompiling it first. I wonder what are possible design strategies and design patterns used in the implementation of this design?

  • Perforce: rename a depot

    - by rifferte
In Perforce, is it possible to rename a depot? I would imagine that you could integrate across different named depots, but I do not think that would carry over the full depot's history. I have seen this Renaming Depot Directories article, but this applies only to directories under a depot (and not the depot itself).

  • Naming Convention for Blackberry Development

    - by invig
I'm having problems with a Joomla install (problem exists in both 1.5.13 and 1.5.15) that won't order articles in a category or section blog layout. I've tried setting the sort order on the layout manually to all the different sort options but it has no effect. Ordering on the front page works fine. Any ideas?

  • Why do we have so many programming-languages?

    - by ntsbjctve
Most people would probably answer with "You won't build a house using only a hammer", but my argument against this is: There is also only one real mathematical language used for everything from chemical to architectural calculations, and as programming-languages are in many ways similar to maths, why should it be so different with them?

  • F# mutual recursion between modules

    - by rwallace
For recursion in F#, existing documentation is clear about how to do it in the special case where it's just one function calling itself, or a group of physically adjacent functions calling each other. But in the general case where a group of functions in different modules need to call each other, how do you do it?

  • Redirect in Application_Error redundant if using customErrors?

    - by Ek0nomik
If I have a customErrors section in my Web.config that says to redirect to Error.html, then putting code in the Application_Error method in the Global.asax to redirect to Error.html is redundant is it not? Technically, I could bypass the Web.config by redirecting to a different page in the Application_Error method if I wanted to, but since I don't want to go to a separate page I don't think I need the code.

  • Site monitoring tool to look for javascript errors

    - by Agile Noob
I am currently working on a site that includes javascript code that we get from several different sources and need to run on the site I maintain. Is there a monitoring tool that will crawl our site and look for javascript errors and report them or could this be incorporated into a selenium test somehow?
