    I need to keep track of number of "hits" on a particular item in a DB. The thing is that the "hits" should stay unique with a user ID, so if a user hits the item 3 times, it should still count for a hit of 1. Also, I need to display the total number of hits for a particular item. Is there a better way than to store each hits for each items by each users in a separate table? Would keeping the user ID in a string separated by commas a better and efficient way?

    I have 2 div's contained in a third. One of the contained div's is floated left, the other floated right. I would like the 2 sibling div's to always be at the same height, but am having a problem with this. So far I am only viewing the page in Firefox, and figured I'd worry about any cross-browser issues after I get it working in at least one browser. In an example I tried, Firefox said the computed style height of the #main-container was 804px, the computed style height of the #left-div was 800px, and the computed style height of the #right-div was 586.2px, as it had expanded to fit it's own content. I understand I might be going about this the wrong way, and if this is a duplicate questions then I apologize, but I wasn't quite sure what to search under.

  • Strategies to use Database Sequences?

    Hello all, I have a high-end architecture which receives many requests every second (in fact, it can receive many requests every millisecond). The architecture is designed so that some controls rely on a certain unique id assigned to each request. To create such UID we use a DB2 Sequence. Right now I already understand that this approach is flawed, since using the database is costly, but it makes sense to do so because this value will also be used to log information on the database. My team has just found out an increase of almost 1000% in elapsed time for each transaction, which we are assuming happened because of the sequence. Now I wonder, using sequences will serialize access to my application? Since they have to guarantee that increments works the way they should, they have to, right? So, are there better strategies when using sequences? Please assume that I have no other way of obtaining a unique id other than relying on the database.

  • Authlogic OpenID: Fetching E-Mail from Provider.

    This is a really weird problem: I have set up the authlogic_openid_selector_example app. When i register, the email id is not returned by the openid provider the first time. But if i delete the account and register again, the email id is returned. But this doesn't seem to be happening in the example hosted here: http://big-glow-mama.heroku.com/. How do i fix this problem? Has this got to do with caching? I have hosted my version of the app here: http://pingauthtest.heroku.com/ I guess the author of authlogic_openid_selector_example app (@holden) has forgotten to commit new changes. :) I looked at my development log and the first time the provider doesn't return the openid.ext1.value.ext0 which contains the email id. This is returned the second time only after having deleted the account first.     I want to be able to layout nested divs with these properties: width: 100% height: 100% padding: 10px I want it to be such that, the children are 100% width and height of the remaining space after padding is calculated, not before. Otherwise, when I have a document like the below example, the child makes the scrollbars appear. But the scrollbars are not the main issue, the fact that the child stretches beyond the width of the parent container is. I can use all position: absolute declarations, but that doesn't seem right.     In my free time, I develop (alone, sigh) a project, in particoular an application library. I've released it using GPL v3. At this time, this project has come very useful for a job. I'd like to release my OSS library toghether with the application using the same GPL v3 licence, with the exception that it can be linked for the specific application, or for the specific application vendor. AFAIK, the copyright owner can handle the entire source and licencing it, I did it; and probably the licence owner could cut&paste its own code, change its licence and use for other projects, isn't? But an GPL'ed library cannot be linked with a proprietary software, right? But software could be double-licenced, as MySQL does. So the question is: what should I do to allow the distribution of my GPL'ed library with a proprietary software, being the copyright owner?

    Hi all My application show a ListView with a button which allow user to add an element. When the user clicks on this button, another Activity is started to allow user to populate the new element. When the add is finished, we return to the previous Activity with the ListView and I would like to scroll to the new element. Note that this element is not necessarily at the end of the ListView because there is an "order by" when I retrieve the datas from the database. I know I need the cursor position of the new element to make the ListView scrool to it, but the only info I have about this element is its id, so how to convert this id to cursor position ? Do I have to loop on the cursor to find the position ? Thanks in advance

How can I change the output of the ShipDate in the XML file to the desired format? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I have the following <label for="Forename">Forename</label> <%= Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Customer.Name.Forename) %> the problem with this is that this is rendered as <label for="AddressLine1">Address Line 1</label> <input type="text" value="" name="Customer.Address.Thoroughfare" id="Customer_Address_Thoroughfare"> not what I want ofc. I would like an extension to render the label correctly (i.e. with the for="" attribute having the value of the input id), is there anything in MVC 2 that does this nativly before I go writing my own extension?

    JQuery Dialog is giving me lots of pain lately. I have the following div which I want to be popped up. When the document loads, the <div #confirmation> is deleted from the markup! I had a similar issue earlier, but I cannot use that solution here. On this page I can have multiple PopUp divs. When I added the initialization in just before opening it; the form popped up. But after I close it, the div is removed; so I am not able to see the popup again.

    Hello, I am using solrj as client for indexing documents on the solr server. I am having problem while deleting the indexes by 'id' from the solr server. I am using following code to delete the indexes: server.deleteById("id:20"); server.commit(true,true); After this when i again search for the documents, the search result contains the above document also. Dont know what is going wrong with this code. Please help me out with issue. Thanks!
