• Bypassing rack version error using Rails 2.3.5

  I'm currently on Dreamhost attempting to run a Rails 2.3.5 app. Here is the situation, Dreamhost's servers have Rails 2.2.2 installed. Of course, I can't update a shared host's rails version, so I froze my Rails in vendor. Rails 2.3.5 requires the rack v1.0.1 gem. Dreamhost uses the rack v1.0.0 gem. So when I try to define: config.gem "rack", :version => "1.0.1" I get: can't activate rack (~> 1.0.1, runtime) for [], already activated rack-1.0.0 for [] So what I really need to do is bypass my app's request to use 1.0.1, and use Dreamhost's 1.0.0. Does anyone know how to configure this? Is it even possible? Thanks for the help.

• IE not detecting jquery change method for checkbox

  The code below works in FF, Safari, Chrome. But IE is giving me issues.   Hi SQL'ers, This is a followup question to: SQL Query with ORDER BY But I think the SQL logic is going to be quite different, so I am posting it as separate question. I am trying to extend my sql SELECT query it and having some trouble: I have the table: id type radius ------------------------- 1 type1 0.25 2 type2 0.59 3 type1 0.26 4 type1 0.78 5 type3 0.12 6 type2 0.45 7 type3 0.22 8 type3 0.98 and I am trying to learn how to SELECT the second smallest radius for each given type. So the returned recordset should look like: id type radius ------------------------- 3 type1 0.26 2 type2 0.59 7 type3 0.22 (Note: in the referenced question, I was looking for the lowest radius, not the second lowest radius). I am assuming I have to use LIMIT and OFFSET, but if I use the MIN() won't that return a distinct record containing the minimum radius? Does anyone have any thoughts on how to attack this? (This stores Id as well as name) In a httpmodule I stored this extended id in Current.User like so: HttpContext.Current.User = new GenericPrincipal(myExtendedId, roles); Problem is, later, how do I get at my ExtendedId type again? If I try this: ExtendedId eId = (ExtendedId)HttpContext.Current.User.Identity; I get a casting error. I have a feeling I'm doing something stupid here with casting, but I'm a bit foggy this morning.

• Cannot format first column in WxPython's ListCtrl

  If I set the format of the first column in a ListCtrl to align centre (or align right) nothing happens. It works for the other columns. This only happens on Windows - I have tested it on Linux and it works fine. Does anyone know if there is a work-round or other solution?   Is it possible to create Windows CE 5.0 images (ie: nk.bin) from VS2005/VS2008 without using Platform Builder? If so, how? Can a vendor BSP for WinCE 5 be loaded into VS2005/2008? Are there the parts to do this available for download from Microsoft (ie: the SDK), or must you buy the special bits (a la PB) from a "special distributor"? I know it is possible to build binaries (.dll, .exe) for WinCE 5.0 using VS, my question is about creating entire bootable CE 5.0 images for embedded platforms.

  Hi, I'm trying to use the markitup editor on my site and I'm having a problem trying to figure out what I need to do to submit the text area to my server side script. I'm guessing there is something simple that needs to be done but my lack of JS/JQuery knowledge is making it really hard to find a answer The editor works fine, I just want to use my own form and submit button with it, however when I try to submit the form I don't get any of the textarea data in my script. Any idea what I need to do?   As usual, I'm trying to do something the easiest way possible, in this case implement a double-tap handler on a UIWebView like so: <div id="foo" ondblclick="clickHandler(this);" ... > It works fine in Safari and Firefox, and I know the code containing clickHandler is loading on the iPhone thanks to a now-annoying alert stmt at the end of loading. If I change ondblclick to onclick it works on both the device and the simulator. From reading similar queries it would seem that I need to intercept the taps in ... and then run my JavaScript code with the stringByEvaluatingJavaScriptFromString method, but then how do I know the JS id of the target? I no like that, would rather write a pure HTML/DOM/JS solution. Or since my app is about 80% web content, should I be using phonegap instead?

According to MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165431.aspx) it seems that the project file's click once settings should be used unless you override them with property arguments on the command line. However, even though I have specified (in VS) that some prerequisites should be bootstrapped in with the setup, they don't seem to get installed if I use the MSBuild command line to create the package, even though they do seem to get installed if I use Visual Studio to create the ClickOnce package. Please could someone advise me how to get my prerequisites to get installed via ClickOnce when the clickonce package is built using the MSBuild command line? For information, in Visual Studio, project properties, "Publish" tab, "Prerequisite" button, I have ticked "Create setup program to install prerequisite components", I have ticked my pre-requisites and I have specified "Download prerequisites from the component vendor's web site"

• Hierarchical data in Linq - options and performance

  I have some hierarchical data - each entry has an id and a (nullable) parent entry id. I want to retrieve all entries in the tree under a given entry. This is in a SQL Server 2005 database. I am querying it with LINQ to SQL in C# 3.5. LINQ to SQL does not support Common Table Expressions directly. My choices are to assemble the data in code with several LINQ queries, or to make a view on the database that surfaces a CTE. Which option (or another option) do you think will perform better when data volumes get large? Is SQL Server 2008's HierarchyId type supported in Linq to SQL?

• Why / When / How is this Android serviceBinder resetting to null?

  I've written a ListActivity for Android 2.1 which is used to display a list of event categories. As the user selects a category, the program calls a web service to retrieve a list of sub-events. For example, a top level event might be "soccer" and when the user selects this the web service would return various soccer associations (e.g. "english", "french", "german", etc.) and display them in a new list. The following code seems to work occasionally, however sometimes the call to the service (in EventsListTask) fails because the serviceBinder is null. Is there anything I need to watch out for when doing this? Am I calling the target intent incorrectly?
