• Animated Gif in form using C#

  In my project, whenever a long process in being executed, a small form is displayed with a small animated gif file. I used this.Show() to open the form and this.Close() to close the form. Following is the code that I use. public partial class PlzWaitMessage : Form { public PlzWaitMessage() { InitializeComponent(); } public void ShowSpalshSceen() { this.Show(); Application.DoEvents(); } public void CloseSpalshScreen() { this.Close(); } } When the form opens, the image file do not immediately start animating. And when it does animate, the process is usually complete or very near completion which renders the animation useless. Is there a way I can have the gif animate as soon as I load the form?

• How to determine user's language setting from LocalSystem

  I have a Windows system service that needs to communicate string information to an application running under the user's account. The strings will appear to the user so I want to make sure that the strings that the service passes to the application are in the same language as the user account. How can I tell what display language the currently logged in user has from the service code? If I can determine this, I can just load the correct resource file and be done. I don't have to support multiple user's logged in so the service will only communicate with one application instance at a time.

  I'm trying to compile a Python extension (written in C) on a PPC mac (running OS X 10.4, XCode 2.5), to run under Ren'Py on both PPC and i386 MacOS. • Lot of time spent with following waits 'SQL*Net message from client' and 'wait for unread message on

  My application that wraps around Oracle Data pump's executables IMPDP and EXPDP takes random amounts of time for the same work. On further investigation, I see it waiting for again random amounts of time with the event 'wait for unread message on broadcast channel'. This makes the application take anytime b/w 10 minutes to over an hour for the same work. I fail to understand if this has something to do with the way my application uses these executables, or it has got something to do with Load on my server or something totally alien to me.

  i have a page inside iframe, so i set the header to "P3P","CP=\"IDC DSP COR ADM DEVi TAIi PSA PSD IVAi IVDi CONi HIS OUR IND CNT\"" after that my page inside iframe able to load properly and i able to authenticate user with 'form' post . but on ie6, when i post 'form' inside iframe, i get ie6 message 'file download security warning on javascript file' . those javascript files are put on 'head' of pages inside iframe. how comes ie6 suddenly pop up dialog asking to download those files? anyone know which p3p parameter cause this problem?

• Can't access dojo object property using string variable

  I am retrieving a json associative array using a dojo xhrGet request. The data comes back just fine, however I need the app to be able to display the keys and their properties (or values) without knowing the keys beforehand. So, I do the following: function getData() { dojo.xhrGet( { url: "ytd_process.php", handleAs: "json", load: function(response) { for (var key in response) { dojo.byId("boxes").innerHTML+="<div id=\"box\">"+key+":"+response.key+"</div>"; } console.dir(response); // Dump it to the console } }); }; The keys are retrieved and displayed on the page, but the response.key returns undefined. I know the syntax is correct because if I replace .key with an actual key value it will display correctly. It appears it doesn't like a string as the key.   I am trying to test my application with in app purchases. I created features, test user, logged out from iTunes on the iPhone and used developer certificate. Load app from XCode in debug mode. When I click "Buy" button I pass all checks for internet availability, canMakePayments and call SKPayment *payment = [SKPayment paymentWithProductIdentifier:featureId]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] addPayment:payment]; But all what I see is a pending view and after some minutes it failed in - (void) failedTransaction: (SKPaymentTransaction *)transaction { if (transaction.error.code != SKErrorPaymentCancelled) { NSLog(@"failedTransaction"); } [[MKStoreManager sharedManager] paymentCanceled]; [[SKPaymentQueue defaultQueue] finishTransaction: transaction]; } Please advice in what direction I should go to figure out the problem and what else I should check. • Access to module denied from within GAE dev server

  I am developing an app for GAE. Having installed the "feedparser" module with setuptools, I tried importing it (with "import feedparser") statement. However, the module does not load and when I look at the dev_appserver.py debug log on screen, I see the following: Access to module file denied: /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/feedparser-4.1-py2.6.egg/feedparser.py So GAE dev server cannot access the module but I can't figure out why. The path is correct and the file is accessible. I am fairly new to Python/Django/GAE - what am I missing?

• UIView Clipped By Statusbar until Autorotate

  Hi There, Ive created a multiview application that uses multiple controllers to display and control views. The problem Im having is, when the simulator initially loads the view the header is partially covered by the bar at top of screen and the tool bar at the base is not touching the base of the screen. I used the Interface builder size attributes to control the view when the iphone rotates and it works perfectly. All smaps into place perfectly both in landscape and portrait mode AFTER a rotation but the problem is with the initial load before a rotation occurs. Your thoughts a much appreciated. Tony

  In our build scripts, we are using YUI compressor to minify/compress javascript and css files. As this combines the js into one file, it needs to be referenced in the Master Layout script, e.g. First question is what is best way to use both, so that if we are developing (in debug mode) it will reference each js file individually? Second question, is once on production, would there be any steps/solution to debugging the javascript on the production server, i.e. conditionallly load the javascript files based on setting a "debug=true" setting in either js or .net?

  Hi, I engadged a problem with inherited Controls in WinForms, and need some advice on it. I do use a base class for items in a List (selfmade GUI list made of a panel) and some inherited controls that are for each type of data that could be added to the list. There was no problem with it, but I know found out, that it would be right, to make the base-control an abstract class, since it has methods, that need to be implemented in all inherited controls, called from the code inside the base-control, but must not and can not be implemented in the base class. When I mark the base-control as abstract, the VS2008 Designer refuses to load the window. Is there any way to get the Designer work with the base-control made abstract?

• How do I get a full Magento session in an external script? (Specifically, Catalog Rules)

  I'm running an external script that loads up a Magento session. Within that script, I'm loading products and grabbing a bunch of properties. The one issue is that getFinalPrice() does not apply the catalog rules that apply to the product. I'm doing everything I know to set the session, even a bunch of stuff that I think is superfluous. Nothing seems to get these rules applied. • WCF DataContract with readonly properties

  I'm trying to return a complex type from a service method in WCF. I'm using C# and .NET 4. This complex type is meant to be invariant (the same way .net strings are). Furthermore, the service only returns it and never recieves it as an argument. If I try to define only getters on properties I get a run time error. I guess this is because no setters causes serialization to fail. Still, I think this type should be invariant. Example: [DataContract] class A { [DataMember] int ReadOnlyProperty {get; private set;} } The service fails to load due to a problem with serialization. Is there a way to make readonly properties on a WCF DataContract? Perhaps by replacing the serializer? If so, how? If not, what would you suggest for this problem? Thanks, Asaf

  Hi, we'd like to measure "client side web site performance". i.e. we would like to have answers to the following questions: how long did it takt to load and render a webpage (including alle graphics scripts etc.) this bundled with additional informations like user-agent, operating system etc. a graphical tool to analyze the data would be perfect I know jiffy ( http://code.google.com/p/jiffy-web/wiki/Jiffy_js ) but that isn't maintained anymore. I would prefer either a hosted solution (like google analytics) or a java based solution that we deploy for ourselves. Do you know something like that? Thanks, Marc

But, I usually test application using JUnit, So I init the basic configurator in setup method. after that, I test the application, and I can see the log. Because I deployed, the web in websphere. I change all of logging instance become: private Log log = LogFactory.getLog(Foo.class); I don't know how to load basic configurator using ACL. so I can't control debug level to my JUnit test. do you have any suggestion, without changing static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(SomeClass.class); become static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(SomeClass.class);

  Hi, I'm trying to use a custom UITableViewCell, and I've placed it in the same nib file as the UITableView controller. For this, the files are: NTItems.h, NTItems.m and NTItems.xib. I have defined the cell in the header file: IBOutlet UITableViewCell *cellview; and I've correctly applied the property: nonatomic, retain so it's there. In the m file - I've synthesized the variable device and am using this to get the custom cell: if(cell == nil){ cell = self.cellview; } However, when I load the table, I get this horrible mess: There should be more than 1 cell showing data as well. On another note, how do I map the labels to the text which is to be displayed?

• Is possible to auto-import a module from a diferent subfolder in other subfolder?

  I have a kind of plugin system, with this layout: - Python -- SDK -- Plugins ---- Plugin1 ---- Plugin2 All 3 have a __init__.py file. I wonder if is possible to be able to do import SDK from any plugin (as if SDK was in the site-packages folder). I'm in a situation where need to deploy, update, delete, add or change SDK files or any of the plugins under non-admin accounts, and wonder if I can get SDK in a clean way (I could sys.path.append in all plugins but I wonder if exist a better option). I imagine that using this in the Plugins init coulkd work: import sys import os ROOT_DIR = os.path.abspath(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__),'..')) print ROOT_DIR sys.path.append( ROOT_DIR ) But clearly is not executed this code (I imagine init was auto-magicalled executed in the load of the module :( )

• Unable to set relative path for flash file in ASP.NET MVC using AC_FL_RunContent

  Hi, I have a website using asp.net mvc in which I need to embed a flash file in view. I am unable to set the relative path for the flash file. Given below is the code I am using: AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase', 'http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0', 'width', '487', 'height', '359', 'menu', 'false', 'movie', 'images/butterfly', 'quality', 'high', 'allowscriptaccess', 'sameDomain', 'pluginspage', 'http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' ); where I copied butterfly.swf in a directory called images. images directory resides in the views folder. If I use code behind( default.aspx default.aspx.cs) in a different solution with the same folder strucuture, browser is able to load the flash file. • Windows Azure worker roles: One big job or many small jobs?

  Is there any inherent advantage when using multiple workers to process pieces of procedural code versus processing the entire load? In other words, if my workflow looks like this: Get work from queue0 and do A Store result from A in queue1 Get result from queue 1 and do B Store result from B in queue2 Get result from queue2 and do C Is there an inherent advantage to using 3 workers who each do the entire process themselves versus 3 workers that each do a part of the work (Worker 1 does 1 & 2, worker 2 does 3 & 4, worker 3 does 5). If we only care about working being done (finished with step 5) it would seem that it scales the same way (once you're using at least 3 workers). Maybe the big job is better because workers with that setup have less bottleneck issues?

• Safe deployment of ASP.Net applications

  Hi All, I have an asp.net app that I want to deploy safely (with as little down time possible). I would love to do something like blue green deployment but without the need for a second web server. So, I know I can use load balancing, etc but I need a quick and cheap approach. I was thinking of doing something like: Setting up another website (copy of original) in IIS, currently I use host headers to direct traffic across sites). I could then view the new site locally until the site is totally online (due to NHibernate start up and various other high intensity tasks this takes a while). Once site 2 is totally started I would then change host headers around giving me a much much smaller down time. So my question is. Has anyone done anything like this? Will IIS restart my app pool or application when changing host headers (making this useless)? Any other options? Thanks for your help all. Guido

  Hi community, I'm interessted, how does Linq2Sql handles a compiled query, that returns IQueryable. If I call an extension method based on a compiled query like "GetEntitiesCompiled().Count()" or "GetEntitiesCompiled().Take(x)". What does Linq2Sql do in the background? This would be very bad, so in this situation I should write a compiled query like "CountEntitiesCompiled". Does he load the result (in this case "GetEntitiesCompiled()") into the memory (mapped to the entity class like "ToList()")? So what situations make sense, when the compiled queries return IQueryable, that query is not able to modify, before request to the Sql-Server. So in my opinion I can just as good return List. Thanks for answers!
