• Installing Ruby On Rails - Issues with gem (and no RVM)

  I'm having this issue whenever i run "gem install rails": usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/yaml.rb:56:in `<top (required)>': It seems your ruby installation is missing psych (for YAML output). To eliminate this warning, please install libyaml and reinstall your ruby. ERROR: Loading command: install (LoadError) cannot load such file -- zlib ERROR: While executing gem ... (NameError) uninitialized constant Gem::Commands::InstallCommand Ruby and Rubygems were both installed from source. I've installed libyaml from source and from apt-get. I'm running ubuntu 12.04. I am NOT running RVM as far as I know (trying "rvm" returns "bla bla bla not installed apt-get". I'm pretty sure this speaks of 2 separate issues but I need solutions to both. Thanks.

• Can I use JPA/EJB3 on a table that was created at runtime?

  This is weird and probably not possible but I'll ask anyway. I'm making this app that reads in a meta file and creates some tables then populates them with data. I was wondering if I could somehow use JPA to populate those tables. Obviously, there's no way I could have an entity with annotations on it since the table didn't exist at compile time. But perhaps JPA or the entity manager has a way to load data into a nameless table? If possible, I'd expect a method like entityManager.update("myTableName", hashMapOfColumnNamesAndColumnDataValues);

• NUnit not running Suite tests

  I've created a test suite in NUnit that references several distinct unit test fixtures in various assemblies. I've pretty much used the example code from NUnit's docs: namespace NUnit.Tests { using System; using NUnit.Framework; using System.Collections; public class AllTests { [Suite] public static IEnumerable Suite { get { ArrayList suite = new ArrayList(); suite.Add(new VisionMap.DotNet.Tests.ManagedInteropTest.DotNetUtilsTest()); return suite; } } } } My goal is to add several tests to the list above so I can run them all in a batch. • Updating to Spring 2.5.5 causes a javax.servlet.UnavailableException: org.springframework.web.struts

  I have been told to update some application from Spring 2.0.8 to Spring 2.5.5. This application is using Struts 1.2.7. Once I change the Spring.jar I get the following exception while loading in JBoss 4.0.5: 10:14:57,579 ERROR [[/PortalRRHH]] Servlet /PortalRRHH threw load() exception javax.servlet.UnavailableException: org.springframework.web.struts.DelegatingTilesRequestProcessor This is defined in the struts-config.xml this way: <controller locale="true"> <set-property property="processorClass" value="org.springframework.web.struts.DelegatingTilesRequestProcessor"/> </controller> I have no clue of what is happening since it works with the old version of Spring and the DelegatingTilesRequestProcessor is still available in Spring 2.5.5. I have no previous experience with Struts so if you need anything else to figure what the problem is please ask and I will update the question. Thanks.

• Setting a breakpoint in a T4 template

  I'm trying to debug the execution of a T4 template in Visual Studio 2008. All the information I'm finding on debugging T4 templates in Visual Studio 2008 say that you can set a breakpoint (red dot) in the template as if it were a regular code file. I have the Clarius T4 code highlighter installed, so my T4 template is colored, but I can't set a breakpoint. When I click in the margin nothing happens. I've tried Debugger.Break(), and it launches a new instance of VS.NET, but it can't load the code from my template. I get a dialog that says "There is no source code available for the current location." This happens if I have the same project loaded in the another instance of if I spin up a new instance. What gives?

• "Don't Allow" in LocationManager keeps logging errors

  I have an app that checked for location. It asks the user to use location and if the user says no on the menu there is an issue when i load the mapview. Once i select the mapView it asks for the user location again. If the user says no again my console keeps displaying errors/warning as well as my NSLog from the "didFailWithError" of my location Manager class. Is there a way of stopping the LocationManage:didFailWithErrors if the user has already said no? • Flex SWF assets loaded into Flash SWF at runtime within same ApplicationDomain

  I'm trying to load a swf compiled by the Flex SDK into a swf exported by the Flash IDE and instantiate the assets by way of getDefinition(). Normally this works fine with assets exported from the Flash IDE then loaded into another swf also from Flash IDE. This is how I could normally do this using only the Flash IDE: Loader - Using same ApplicationDomain - getDefinition(class) Now, using the 'Test.as' compiled from Flex SDK using the [Embed] metadata tag: Loader - Using same ApplicationDomain - getDefinition("Test_" + class) The problem is I'd rather not have to keep track of the asset libraries loaded to prefix the class name I'd like to get (('Test_" + class) vs (class)). Is there any way of doing this without referencing the library the class is being pulled from or without accessing the original loader? This way I don't need to know which swf the asset is coming from, just the class name that I could instantiate from the current ApplicaitonDomain. Thanks

• Have Rails 2.3.x ignore the i18n gem

  I have a Rails 2.3.5 project that uses the localization features of Rails. I also happen to have Rails 3 beta installed (which depends on the i18n gem). Rails 2.3.5 will happily handle localization on it's own (without i18n installed), however if the i18n gem is available, it makes use of it. Recently I upgraded my gems and now have version 0.3.7 and 0.4.0 of i18n installed. Rails, of course, wants to load and use the latest version which is causing errors in my project. I tried setting the gem version to 0.3.7 which gets around the errors in the web app. However, we're using resque and resque_mailer to delay the sending of messages. When the worker picks up the mailer job from the queue, it ignores my config.gem requirement in environment.rb and uses version 0.4.0 anyway. Ideally, I'd like to tell Rails to just not use the i18n gem at all. How do I do that?

• Nibernate, DynamicProxy, and Spring AOP

  We have an Spring IOC managed application that uses NHibernate in its persistence layer. We have use the Spring AOP and understand its terminology and capabilities. We have some investment in Spring proxies. Now, we want to add a PropertyChangedMixin and a ValidatorInterceptor (not nhibernate validator, but based on Spring validation) onto our NHibernate managed objects. I've looked at the hooks for NHiberate IInterceptor and EventListeners and that gives me a place to apply the desired proxies. If I use the Spring proxies is it going to play nice with the existing nhibernate proxies. We don't lazy load. From the simple nhibernate stuff the benefits of DynamicProxy look appealing. I can go either way, but I'd like to hear suggestions. Thanks, jeff

• <mx:HTML/> content looks crusty when resized

  I've got HTML component as part of a datagroup itemrenderer which I need to resize the content of (there are lots of them). This works quite well but the content looks really crusty. No font antialiasing. Even at 50% looks crusty. I've considered generating thumbnails bitmaps on load 'complete', but that would be my last resort. <mx:HTML location="{uri}" width="900" height="660" scaleX=".25" scaleY=".25" /> Any ideas? • Silly CSS ref problem.

  Hi All, I am having a very weird problem. I cannot for the life of me figure it out. The code for my page (at the moment), is this: <link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/css/default.css" /> But, why does it not load the stylesheet? When I move the stylesheet into the same location as the index.html page, and then change the references to it to point to the root dir, it works again? It never wants to work if the stylesheet is any more than 1 directory deep. Is this normal? Or should it still work?

  I'm using the MySql connector for .NET to copy data from MySql servers to SQL Server 2008. Has anyone experienced better performance using one of the following, versus the other? DataAdapter and calling Fill to a DataTable in chunks of 500 DataReader.Read to a DataTable in a loop of 500 I am then using SqlBulkCopy to load the 500 DataTable rows, then continue looping until the MySql record set is completely transferred. I am primarily concerned with using a reasonable amount of memory and completing in a short amount of time. Any help would be appreciated!

• Dynamically loading CSS and JavaScript using Prototype

  I have a classic ASP application that I've been constantly trying to modularize. Currently, almost all pages are divided in to two pages: an outer page that contains the layout, header, sidebar, footer an inner page that contains ASP code The outer pages use dreamweaver templates so updating layout and replicating changes is easy. The inner pages are managed by me. Now here is the problem: I had to add a lightbox to one page, I chose Lightbox 2 which requires Prototype. I ended up adding Prototype on every page, assuming that sooner or later I'll upgrade all pages, forms, ajax requests and other javascript to use Prototype. I've now added two other plugins -- Modalbox and Protofade; each with a pair of .JS and .CSS files. Since I'll be using these three plugins on specific set of pages I am wondering if I can load the required CSS and JS files dynamically. I do not want to access the document head and add include files there, I'll have to do this from inside a DIV where all ASP code is supposed to go.

• ASP.NET control event handler not firing on postback?

  I have a control which has an ImageButton which is tied to an OnClick event... Upon clicking this control, a postback is performed and the event handler is not called. AutoEventWireup is set to true, and I've double checked spelling etc.... We haven't touched this control in over a year and it has been working fine until a couple of weeks ago. We have made changes to controls which load this control... so I'm wondering, what kind of changes could we have made to stop this event handler from being called? There is quite a bit of Javascript going on, so this could be the culprit too... Edit: Some clarification... we are dynamically loading the parent control of the ImageButton in the OnLoad event of the page... if that makes sense.

• Replacing links detected in a HTML with other links using JS

  Hi people. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to do this one. Here's the scenario. My e-commerce site has a blog with a lot of content, promoting the products I sell, reviewing them etc. 99% of the posts on the blog link back to the products they are talking about. I'm going to be changing the URL where my ecommerce system is located. Therefore my blog is going to end up sending people to a lot of 404 pages. The idea I've had is to be able inclue a JS file which will on load, scan the document for existing links then, if found, swap them out with ones which are now correct. I hope this make sense. • Writing a simple RSpec test to check that Rake tasks are correct

  I'm trying to be diligent about checking my rake tasks with RSpec tests, but in the process of feeling my way around I seem to have hit a wall. If I put the @rake.load_rakefile method in, I want that Rakefile to load. But instead it just bombs out. If I comment it out, however, the test fails because the "specs" task is (understandably) not defined. Where am I going wrong?
