• W3WP crashes when initializing a collection

  I've created an ASP.NET MVC application that has an initializer attached to the PreApplicationStartMethodAttribute. When initializing, a collection is instantiated that implements an interface I've defined. If I leave the instantiation, w3wp crashes. If I modify the interface, w3wp still crashes. I've tried every variation I could come up with on the theme of keeping the instantiation but doing everything else differently, but w3wp still crashes. My biggest issue here is that I have absolutely no idea why w3wp is crashing. It's not a StackOverflowException or anything concrete like that, all I get is the unintelligent junk cited above. I've tried to use DebugDiag and IISState to debug the w3wp process, but DebugDiag is only available for post-dump analysis in x64 (I'm running on Windows 7 x64, so the w3wp process is thus 64 bit) and IISStat says the following when I try to run it: D:\Programs\iisstate>IISState.exe -p 9204 -d Symbol search path is: SRV*D:\Programs\iisstate\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols IISState is limited to processes associated with IIS. If you require a generic debugger, please use WinDBG or CDB. They are available for download from http://www.microsoft.com/ddk/debugging. This error may also occur if a debugger is already attached to the process being checked. Incorrect Process Attachment I've double-checked 10 times that the process ID of my w3wp process is correct. I'm suspecting that IISState too only can debug x86 processes. Setting a breakpoint anywhere in the application does absolutely nothing. The break point isn't hit and w3wp crashes as soon as the request comes through to IIS from the browser. Starting the application with F5 in Visual Studio 2010 or starting another application to get the w3wp process up and running and then attaching the VS2010 debugger to it and then visiting the faulting application doesn't help. I've also tried to add an HTTP module as described in KB-911816 as well as add this to my web.config file: <configuration> <runtime> <legacyUnhandledExceptionPolicy enabled="true" /> </runtime> </configuration> Needless to say, it makes absolutely no difference. So I'm left with no way to debug the w3wp process, no way to extract any information from it and complete garbage dumped in my event log. If anybody has any idea on how to debug this problem, please let me know! Update My collection was initialized based on RouteTable.Routes which might have thrown an exception (perhaps by not being initialized itself yet in such an early stage of the ASP.NET lifecycle). Postponing the communication with RouteTable.Routes until a later stage solved the problem. While I don't really need an answer to this question anymore, I still find it so obscure that I'll leave it for anyone to comment on and answer, because I found no existing posts on this problem anywhere, so it might be of good reference in the future.

• Button click does not start Service in Android App Widget

  I'm having trouble starting a Service to update an AppWidget that I'm creating as an exercise. I'm trying to get the latitude and longitude of spoofed location data from DDMS to display in the widget. The widget uses a service to update the TextView, which may be slightly overkill, but I wanted to follow the template that seems to be common in AppWidgets that do more work (like the Forecast widget or the Wiktionary widget). Right now, I'm not getting any error messages or strange behavior; nothing at all happens when the button is pressed. I'm a bit mystified as to what might be wrong. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction? Additionally, if my logic for location is faulty, I'd love recommendations on that too. I've looked at several blogs, the Google examples, and the documentation, but I feel a little fuzzy on how it works.   I am getting the following error when I try to build an ASP.NET 4 project in Visual Studio 2010: "Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Dev\project\trunk\bin\Elmah.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)". I have verified that the dll does, in fact, exist, and is getting copied to the bin folder correctly. I have also tried removing and then re-adding the reference to the project. The build only fails when I switch the Solution Configuration to "Release". It does not fail when the Solution Configuration is set to "Debug". • WCF errors in VS 2010/.Net 4 using sample publish/subscribe app from IDesign website

  I am attempting to compile/run a sample WCF application from Juval Lowy's website (author of Programming WCF Services & founder of IDesign). The application is an example of a publish/subscribe 'traffic-light' application that requires using VS 2010/.Net 4. This is my first attempt at using anything other than VS 2008/Net 3.5. • Contructor parameters for dependent classes with Unity Framework

  I just started using the Unity Application Block to try to decouple my classes and make it easier for unit testing. I ran into a problem though that I'm not sure how to get around. Looked through the documentation and did some Googling but I'm coming up dry. Here's the situation: I have a facade-type class which is a chat bot. It is a singleton class which handles all sort of secondary classes and provides a central place to launch and configure the bot. I also have a class called AccessManager which, well, manages access to bot commands and resources. When I create a bot instance it's going to try to resolve IAccessManager but won't be able to because I haven't registered the types yet (that's the next line). But I can't move the registration in front of the Bot creation because as part of the registration I need to pass the Bot as a parameter! Circular dependencies!! Gah!!! This indicates to me I have a flaw in the way I have this structured. But how do I fix it? Help!!

• Running in to some issues with Tumblr's Theme Parser

  Below part of a tumblr theme I'm working on and you will notice that I use the {block:PostType} syntax to declare the opening tag of each post, which is a <li> element in an Ordered List. This allows me to not only dynamicly set the li's class based on the type of post but cuts down on the number of times I'm calling the ShareThis JS which was really bogging down the page. This creates a new issue though which I believe is a flaw in Tumblr's parser. Each post is an ordered list with one <li> element in it. I know I could solve this by having each post as a <div> but I really like the control and semantics of using a list. Tumblr gurus? Suggestions? • Preloading Winforms using a Stack and Hidden Form

  I am currently working on a project where we have a couple very control heavy user controls that are being used inside a MDI Controller. This is a Line of Business app and it is very data driven. The problem that we were facing was the aforementioned controls would load very very slowly, we dipped our toes into the waters of multi-threading for the control loading but that was not a solution for a plethora of reasons. Our solution to increasing the performance of the controls ended up being to 'pre-load' the forms onto a hidden window, create a stack of the existing forms, and pop off of the stack as the user requested a form. Now the current issue that I'm seeing that will arise as we push this 'fix' out to our testers, and the ultimately our users is this: Currently the 'hidden' window that contains the preloaded forms is visible in task manager, and can be shut down thus causing all of the controls to be lost. Then you have to create them on the fly losing the performance increase. Secondly, when the user uses up the stack we lose the performance increase (current solution to this is discussed below). For the first problem, is there a way to hide this window from task manager, perhaps by creating a parent form that encapsulates both the main form for the program and the hidden form? Our current solution to the second problem is to have an inactivity timer that when it fires checks the stacks for the forms, and loads a new form onto the stack if it isn't full. However this still has the potential of causing a hang in the UI while it creates the forms. A possible solutions for this would be to put 'used' forms back onto the stack, but I feel like there may be a better way. EDIT: For control design clarification From the comments I have realized there is a lack of clarity on what exactly the control is doing. Here is a detailed explanation of one of the controls. I have defined for this control loading time as the time it takes from when a user performs an action that would open a control, until the time a control is accessible to be edited. The control is for entering Prescriptions for a patient in the system, it has about 5 tabbed groups with a total of about 180 controls. The user selects to open a new Prescription control from inside the main program, this control is loaded into the MDI Child area of the Main Form (which is a DevExpress Ribbon Control). From the time the user clicks New (or loads an existing record) until the control is visible. The list of actions that happens in the program is this: The stack is checked for the existence of a control. If the control exists it is popped off of the stack. The control is rendered on screen. This is what takes 2 seconds The control then is populated with a blank object, or with existing data. The control is ready to use. The average percentage of loading time, across about 10 different machines, with different hardware the control rendering takes about 85 - 95 percent of the control loading time. Without using the stack the control takes about 2 seconds to load, with the stack it takes about .8 seconds, this second time is acceptable. I have looked at Henry's link and I had previously already implemented the applicable suggestions. Again I re-iterate my question as What is the best method to move controls to and from the stack with as little UI interruption as possible?

• Silverlight Image Loading Question

  I'm playing around with Silverlight Images and a listbox. Here's the scenario. Using WCF I grab some images out of my database and, using a custom class, add items to a listbox. It's working great right now. The images load and appear in the listbox, just like I want them to. The datatemplate is a custom control and literally it contains a contentpresenter, nothing more. Now the class that I use as the ItemSource has a Source property. The images that I'm downloading take about 2-5 seconds to download. Now for the problem / fine tuning. Right now my code will check if the source is null and if it is, return a loading element, and run the background worker to get the image. Once the background worker finishes, set the source to the new downloaded image. I want to be able to set the Source property AFTER the image has fully downloaded. Right now my loading element appears for a brief second, then there's nothing for 2-5 seconds until the image finishes downloading. I want the loading elements to stick around until the image is completely ready but I'm having troubles doing this. I've tried adding a a listener to the ImageOpened event and update the Source property then, but it doesn't work. Thanks in advance.

The native DB2 driver is installed (hence it works as CGI). Running Apache 2.2.3, mod_perl 2.0.4 under RHEL5. This guy had the same problem as me: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg22909.html But I have no idea how he fixed it. What does mod_php4 have to do with mod_perl? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm having no luck with google. Update: As james2vegas pointed out, the problem has something to do with PHP: I disable PHP all together I get the a different error: Total Environment allocation failure! Did you set up your DB2 client environment? I believe this error is to do with environment variables not being set up correctly, namely DB2INSTANCE. However, I'm not able to turn off PHP to resolve this problem (I need it for some legacy applications). So I now have 2 questions: How can I fix the original issue without disabling PHP all together? How can I fix the environment issue? I've set DB2INSTANCE, DB2_PATH and SQLLIB variables correctly using SetEnv and PerlSetEnv in httpd.conf, but with no luck. Note: I've edited the code to determine if the problem was to do with Global Variable Persistence.

  I am working on a project to deploy a project via clickonce. The website where these files are housed will only accept HTTPS traffic and if you attempt to connect via HTTP, our siteminder agent will redirect you to a HTTPS login form. We cannot disable the siteminder agent or enable HTTP for security reasons. I see the request to the application’s manifest file is via HTTPS (This is a good thing). But when the clickonce tries to download the testprint.exe.deploy and the other respective files, it is always via HTTP and the siteminder jumps in and redirects the requests which kills the clickonce install with errors. I have tried to specific an absolute codebase reference in the manifest file, but then I start getting entrypoint errors when the manifest is downloaded by the Clickonce installer.   hi guys, I have to create a script that takes a mySQL table, and exports it into .XSL format, and then saves that file into a specified folder on the web host. I got it working, but now I can't seem to get it to automatically save the file to the location without prompting the user. It needs to run every day at a specified time, so it can save the previous days leads into a .XSL file on the web host.   My objective is to look for Company key-value in the registry hive and then pull the corresponding Guid and other keys and values following it. So I figured i would run the regedit export command and then parse the file with php for the keys I need. So after running the dos batch command >regedit /E "output.txt" "HKLM\System....\Company1" The output textfile seems to be in some kind of UNICODE format which isn't regex friendly. I'm using php to parse the file and pull the keys. I want to simulate annotating this as a 'Repository' annotation, and I also want to be able to specify what entityManager to inject by the persistence unit name. • How might maven's buildNumber metadata become inconsistent across multiple build agents?

  We recently added a second build machine to our build environment and began experiencing very odd occasional build failures. I have two separate Maven build machines, A and B, each running Maven 2.2.1 and communicating to a shared Nexus 1.5.0 repository manager. My problem is that builds on B will occasionally fail because it refuses to download a newer version of a common dependency 'acme-1.0.0-SNAPSHOT' previously built by A and uploaded to Nexus. Looking inside the local repositories on both machines I noticed some oddities in the repository metadata. Machine A's acme\1.0.0-SNAPSHOT\maven-metadata-nexus.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning> <snapshot> <buildNumber>1</buildNumber> </snapshot> <lastUpdated>20100525173546</lastUpdated> </versioning> </metadata> Machine B's acme\1.0.0-SNAPSHOT\maven-metadata-nexus.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning> <snapshot> <buildNumber>2</buildNumber> </snapshot> <lastUpdated>20100519232317</lastUpdated> </versioning> </metadata> In Nexus's acme/1.0.0-SNAPSHOT/maven-metadata.xml: <metadata> <groupId>acme</groupId> <artifactId>acme</artifactId> <version>1.0.0-SNAPSHOT</version> <versioning /> </metadata> If I'm interpreting the metadata files correctly (documentation online is scant), it appears machine B believes it has a newer version of the acme dependency (based on buildNumber) despite the fact that machine A last built it 6 days after machine B did (based on timestamp). Nexus also appears to be unaware of a universally correct buildNumber. How could this situation possibly arise? What could I do to prevent my builds from failing due to inconsistent metadata? Have you experienced anything similar? Important notes: Both build machines have settings.xml files where the updatePolicy is "always". Nexus does indeed have the newer version of acme that was built by A. B simply refuses to download it. A and B are the only machines uploading to Nexus. Both servers share the same system time. All processes involved have write privileges to the metadata files so that they can be updated as necessary. I was unable to find any open Maven or Nexus issues describing this behaviour. Our CI server (Atlassian Bamboo) prevents builds of the same artifact from happening concurrently, so some race condition while uploading to Nexus is rather unlikely.
