  • Using ASP.Net 4.0 for new Dev projects

    I am currently in the early stages of developing a couple web applications, I have not written any code yet as I am still just gathering requirements and scoping things out. I want to target ASP.Net 4.0 winforms as the platform for these apps but I want to make sure there are no glaring issues with this new version before I commit. I understand that if I was porting an existing app from 2.0, 3.5 to 4.0 there may be issues but I am starting from scratch on these projects and plan to write these apps to support the new features of 4.0. Should I wait for the first service pack to come out? Just seems like more work to start with 3.5 now only to go back through and tweak things for 4.0 in just a few months or even before I finish the app. Our servers are Win 2K3 with IIS6 and MS SQL 2000, Should I expect any problems with VS 2010 and MS SQL 2000 in regards to Linq to SQL and EF?

    Hello everyone, here my problem. I have a NavigationBar at the top, a TabBar at the bottom and a TableView at the center of the screen. Very normal situation. I set it all up in IB and I have set this in the app delegate : ExpensesListNavController *expensesListNavController; This in order to be able to add new views to the stack. I need to have 3 levels: - list of items in a TableView - OK - firstLevel: once pressed one cell a view is added to the stack - OK - second level: one pressed the "modify" button on the navBar on the firstLevel I want to show a new view that can be customized by the user. My Problem is coming when trying to add the "Modify" button in the "firstLevelView".   • Form authentication works on dev server but not on IIS

    Hi, We have a similar problem. We have a web application running under default appdomain. It was working fine until a week before...Suddenly it has encountered a problem. Below message is taken from event logs. Event code: 4005 Event message: Forms authentication failed for the request. Reason: The ticket supplied has expired. Application uses FormsAuthentication and gets the roles from aspnetdb.. After the error, when user logins to the page, it does not redirects to the default.aspx. Again login.aspx comes up. On the other hand application works fine on development server(localhost), but not on www(IIS 6.0). Does any one has an idea? Thanks, Ilknur

  • Firefox extension dev: observing preferencies, avoid multiple notifications

    Let's say my Firefox extension has multiple preferences, but some of them are grouped, like check interval, fail retry interval, destination url. Those are used in just single function. When I subscribe to preference service and add observer, the observe callback will be called for each changed preference, so if by chance user changed all of the settings in group, then I will have to do the same routine for the same subsystem as many times as I have items in that preferences group. What I want is observe to be called just once for group of preferences. Say extensions.myextension.interval1 extensions.myextension.site extensions.myextension.retry so if one or all of those preferences are changed, I receive only 1 notification about it.

  • Memory Management iOS dev app doesn't work after a few detail items

    I am working on a project with a tableView controller and the detail views contains CMMotionManager.When i open 5 or 6 detailViews all goes well,but after a while the app goes slow and finally crashes.On instruments the only leak is on main.m , also i must say that I'm using ARC and i can't dealloc or realese the instances.   • iphone dev - loading table content asynchronously

    My app has a navigation controller which push and pop a series of views. One of the tableViews loads .xml file from URL and it takes 4-5 seconds. If I click the back button on the navigation bar, it will only respond after the content of the table finish loading. Is there an easy way to load the content asynchronously so that the app will still respond to my gesture on the navigation bar? p.s. I search this on the Internet and people are talking about multithreading. I don't know a lot about threads so please be more specific. Thanks in advanced =)

  • how to debug a WCF service once it's out of dev env

    hi, I have a WCF service that i've been able to communicate with fine while it's hosted locally. I have it deployed to a web server in IIS now, and I can get the wsdl file without error by navigating to http://site.com:8000/service/servicename.svc?wsdl in trying to test this, i've created a console app and was able to successfully add a service reference to this. But when I try to run a Get() method on the service reference, it just hangs with no response. How can I begin to debug this? Thanks!

  • URL path changes between dev and published version

    I just got Scott Hanselman's chat app with SignalR working with ASP.NET MVC 4. After hours of configuration, trial and error, and getting different versions of Windows to talk to each other on my home network, it's all working except that I'm left with one issue that I'm not sure how to handle. This line of javascript has to change, depending on if I'm running the app through Visual Studio or the published (IIS) version: Works when running within VS: var connection = $.connection('echo'); Works with published version: var connection = $.connection('ChatWithSignalR/echo'); When I run within VS, the URL is: http://localhost:9145/ And the published version is: http://localhost/ChatWithSignalR If I don't change that line of code, and try to run the app within VS, using the javascript that has ChatWithSignalR in it, I get an error like this: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://localhost:9145/ChatWithSignalR/echo/negotiate?_=1347809290826 What can I do so that I can use the same javascript code and have it work in both scenarios? var connection = $.connection('??????'); Note, this is in my Global.asax.cs: RouteTable.Routes.MapConnection<MyConnection>("echo", "echo/{*operation}");

  • iPhone GameKit Picker Fundamental Connection Issues

    Hello.. This is one of the more interesting things I've seen in iPhone development. The following question has nothing to do with code because I'm using an SDK Example from Apple (Tanks example). I have a 3GS iPhone, and a 3G iPhone both showing the GameKit picker screen. Both will eventually show the other phone in range just fine (It does take about 25 seconds, though). If I pick the 3G iPhone with my 3GS, the 3G will get a connection request and a connection can be made. However, it will ABSOLUTELY not work in the vice versa. Both phones have bluetooth switched on, and both phones are running the latest OS version. The simple fact is I'm using the SDK example, and it's just not working for the 3G trying to issue the connection. Is there any way to explain this extremely odd behavior? Thanks alot for reading!

I've always seen people mentioning we should fill bugs and duplicates is their way of measuring priority, but it's not clear to me: How to actually fill the bug; How to flag someone else's bug as a duplicate, and; What do I need to tell people I've filled that bug and they should help me get it fixed by posting duplicates, if they're interested. I couldn't find this process detailed anywhere - just snippets of information, so I figure you guys could help me (and all other developers fresh in Cocoa / Cocoa-touch development) by detailing it here.     I try to send an specific iPad Application to iTunes connect before March 27 and as Apple says: "Only iPad apps compiled with iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 5 will be accepted for this initial review." So I compiled my application with iPhone SDK 3.2 beta 5 with a distribution provisioning profile. But when I upload my application on iTunes Connect, I have the following error: "The binary you uploaded was invalid. A pre-release beta version of the SDK was used to build the application" For sure, it's the beta 5 ! Have you got an idea? Thank you in advance. Fred

  • Best way to change XIB files based on rotation?

    Hi, My app has so far just been a portrait-based application. However, I am adding landscape mode to a new version, but have found that my XIB files look shocking when rotated from portrait to landscape. Apparently I need to make a landscape version of each XIB and use some code to change with XIB launches based on what rotation occurs. Am I right? If so, where do I go from here? Are there any Apple sample apps utilising this code? FYI - My XIB files just have text in them. Thanks.
