  • How do I disable the touchpad using the upper left corner on an HP Pavilion dv6?

    To disable the touchpad on an HP Pavilion dv6, you double tap on an area in the upper left hand corner of the touchpad. Then the blue indicator light around the border of the touchpad turns red, and the touchpad is disabled. Double tapping on this area again turns the touchpad turns back on. I do a lot of typing, and frequently bump the touchpad, messing up my work and annoying me. So, I would like to enable the ability to disable the touchpad by double-tapping on the area in the upper left hand corner. Unfortunately, there is no function key backup to disable the touchpad. This does not work in Ubuntu. I can turn it off using touchpad-indicator, but the program must be manually started and you have to disable using the key combination. Double-tapping the area is much easier. My computer is the HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Left and right keys acting crazy on Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix?

    Hi guys, I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix on my HP Mini 1000. Everything worked fine right up until I tried typing - apparently the left and right arrow keys on my keyboard are uncontrollable. Everything I type ends up looking messed up because the left and right keys keep automatically inserting themselves into everything I type. This also happens when I click on, say, "File" on Firefox. It starts rotating between all the different menu options even though I'm not pressing anything on the keyboard. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Is this a problem with the keyboard itself?

  • Not enough space left in the hard drive. How to proceed?

    Where do I begin... I can hardly do anything on Ubuntu 12.04. I am very close to removing and returning to Windows. First I could not load it because the graphics appeared to be running low but somehow that stopped happening and I could log on. Now I can not download anything or I get this message Cannot write: No space left on device. I tried trouble shooting this issue but every time I try and fix the problem I am blocked by this message E: Write error - write (28: No space left on device) E: Can't mmap an empty file E: Failed to truncate file - ftruncate (9: Bad file descriptor) E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. $ OLD=$(ls -tr /boot/vmlinuz-* | head -n -2 | cut -d- -f2- | awk '{print "linux-image-" $0}') Ubuntu is also running incredibly slow and I cant get anything done! Please help this is driving me mad!

  • Why does DirectX use a left-handed coordinate system?

    I considered posting on Stack Overflow, but the question strikes me as being far too subjective since I can't think of a reasonable technical explanation for Microsoft's choice in this matter. But this question has bugged me for so long and the issue keeps coming up in one of my projects, and I have never actually seen an attempt at explaining this: OpenGL uses a right-handed coordinate system, where the +Z part of the world coordinate system extends toward the viewer. DirectX uses a left-handed system where the +Z part of the world coordinate extends into the screen, away from the viewer. I never used the Glide API, so I don't know how it worked, but from what I can gather, it uses a left-handed system as well. Is there a technical reason for this? And if not, is there some conceptual advantage to a particular handedness of a coordinate system? Why would one choose one over the other?

    I have two tables that I set up through the VS Entity Data Model Diagram tool. I'm trying to do a right outer join and it doesn't return results from the 2nd table. I have set up a 0..1 to MANY relationship from the diagram tool. When I run a Linq-To-Entities query, it still defaults to an INNER JOIN. From my understanding of entities, if I set up the relationship using VS, when I join the tables, it should automagically figure out the join syntax based on the relationship I supply. It doesn't seem to be doing that. I am using EF v1 (not Linq-to-Sql). Query I'm running: from s in SomeTable join t in SomeOtherTable on s.ID equals t.ID select new { s.MyFieldName, t.MyOtherFieldName }

Is it possible to write the same query for O-R database without explicitly using full outer join? For normal inner join it simple, I just use dot notation together with ref/deref. I'm interested in this in general so let's say the relational query is: select a.attr, b.attr from a full outer join b on (a.fk = b.pk); I want to know if it's a good idea to do it this way: select a.attr, b.attr from a_obj a full outer join b_obj b on (a.b_ref = ref(b));

  • SQL JOIN with two or more tables as output - most efficient way?

    I have an SQL query that executes a LEFT JOIN on another table, then outputs all results that could be coupled into a designated table. I then have a second SQL query that executes the LEFT JOIN again, then outputs the results that could not be coupled to a designated table. In code, this is something like: INSERT INTO coupledrecords SELECT b.col1, b.col2... s.col1, s.col2... FROM bigtable AS b LEFT JOIN smallertable AS s ON criterium WHERE s.col1 IS NOT NULL INSERT INTO notcoupledrecords SELECT b.col1, b.col2... bigtable AS b LEFT JOIN smallertable AS s ON criterium WHERE s.col1 IS NULL My question: I now have to execute the JOIN two times, in order to achieve what I want. I have a feeling that this is twice as slow as it could be. Is this true, and if yes, is there a way to do it more efficiently?

    I've read that if I have a for loop, I should not use string concation because it's slow. Such as: for (i=0;i<10000000;i++) { str += 'a'; } And instead, I should use Array.join(), since it's much faster: var tmp = []; for (i=0;i<10000000;i++) { tmp.push('a'); } var str = tmp.join(''); However, I have also read that string concatention is ONLY a problem for Internet Explorer and that browsers such as Safari/Chrome, which use Webkit, actually perform FASTER is using string concatention than Array.join(). I've attempting to find a performance comparison between all major browser of string concatenation vs Array.join() and haven't been able to find one. As such, what is faster and more efficient JavaScript code? Using string concatenation or Array.join()?

Here is an example, it creates three threads: thread that just sleeps for a while thread that increments an int for a while thread that does math.factorial on a large number. It calls start on the threads, then join with a timeout The sleep and spin threads work as expected and return from start right away, and then sit in the join for the timeout.     Hi, I'm having a problem with an HQL query Three classes ClassOne is my BusinessObject public class ClassOne { private int id; private int status; private Set<ClassTwo> classTwos; + other fields/getters/setters/constructor etc } ClassTwo is referenced in a set of ClassOne and is kind of the history of an object of ClassOne public class ClassTwo { private int id; private int oldStatus; private int newStatus; private String message; //+ getters/setters/constructor etc } ClassThree is my DTO/VO with just one classTwo (not the whole history) public class ClassThree { private int id; private int status; private ClassTwo classTwo; public ClassThree(int pId, int pStatus, ClassTwo pClassTwo) { id=pId; status=pStatus; classTwo=pClassTwo; } //+ getters/setters etc } Now I'd like to create an HQL query like this: I'd like to get all objects of ClassThree with a certain status and if it exists the newest ClassTwo with a certain newStatus. For example: I'd like to get all the DTOs (ClassThree) of ClassOne whose status is now 1, but earlier in their history it has been 2 and I'd like to have the latest ClassTwo object which has 2 as newStatus. SELECT new ClassThree(c1.id, c1.status, c2) FROM ClassOne c1 LEFT JOIN c1.classtwos c2 (...) and (...) is where I don't know what to do, I'm not even sure if it's a join / join fetch Looked around and tried quite a lot already, but no clue. Especially with the join fetch I get some Hibernate errors like org.hibernate.QueryException: query specified join fetching, but the owner of the fetched association was not present in the select list.     Using Java/Slick 2D, I'm using the mouse to rotate a sprite on the screen and the directional keys (in this case, WASD) to move the spite. Forwards and backwards is easy, just position += cos(ang)*speed or position -= cos(ang)*speed. But how do I get the sprite to move left or right? I'm thinking it has something to do with adding 90 degrees to the angle or something. Any ideas?     I have two GUITexture that move left and right a cube. Is pretty strange but together they don't work. If I activate only one it works. To be more specific: If I have the left GUItexture alone in the game the cube move left. If I have the right GUITexture activated alone the cube move right. Seems all fine I thought but If I have both of them the cube move only right and not left. Where is the mistake?     how do you do friends will be fine I had Ubuntu 12.04 and all thing work well but at one day i decide to change my partition tables, and done it. at now I've windows 8, Ubuntu 12.04.1 and Backtrack5 R3 on my laptop. my partitions are: /dev/sda1 * 2048 58597375 29297664 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda2 58601472 976773119 459085824 5 Extended /dev/sda5 58605120 797020159 369207520 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT /dev/sda6 797030400 933763071 68366336 83 Linux /dev/sda7 933765120 972834815 19534848 83 Linux /dev/sda8 972836864 976773119 1968128 82 Linux swap / Solaris at first I install windows 8 and then Backtrack5 R3, and at last I install Ubuntu 12.04.1 and I realize that my Ubuntu nautilus doesn't show other partitions or usb/cd/dvd drives. I search in Google and various Linux or Ubuntu forums, But I can't find any solution, just one thing... that is "gvfs-gdu-volume" cause nautilus left panel show other partitions which didn't mounted. but when I see top there isn't this program. who can I solve this problem? how nautilus can show other partitions or drives in its left panel once again?

Does AND logic search on the search keywords (2 in this example - "Democracy" and "Dictatorship"). Returns only those tutors for which both the keywords are present in the union of the two sets - tutors details and details of all the packs created by a tutor. To make things clear - Suppose a Tutor name "Sandeepan Nath" has created a pack "My first pack", then:- Searching "Sandeepan Nath" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan first" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan second" does not return Sandeepan Nath. ====================================================================================== The problem The results returned by the above query are correct (AND logic working as per expectation), but the time taken by the query on heavily loaded databases is like 25 seconds as against normal query timings of the order of 0.005 - 0.0002 seconds, which makes it totally unusable. It is possible that some of the delay is being caused because all the possible fields have not yet been indexed, but I would appreciate a better query as a solution, optimized as much as possible, displaying the same results ========================================================================================== How tags work in this system?     Why does .NET Entity Framework produce SQL that uses a subquery and left outer join on a simple 1-to-1 relationship? I expected to see a simple join on the two tables.   • Too Many Left Outer Joins in Entity Framework 4?

    I have a product entity, which has 0 or 1 "BestSeller" entities. For some reason when I say: db.Products.OrderBy(p = p.BestSeller.rating).ToList(); the SQL I get has an "extra" outer join (below). And if I add on a second 0 or 1 relation ship, and order by both, then I get 4 outer joins. It seems like each such entity is producing 2 outer joins rather than one. LINQ to SQL behaves exactly as you'd expect, with no extra join. Has anyone else experienced this, or know how to fix it? The details of the winner is listed here. In this puzzle we received two very important feedback. This puzzle cleared the concepts of First_Value and Last_Value to the participants. As this was based on SQL Server 2012 many could not participate it as they have yet not installed SQL Server 2012. I really appreciate the feedback of user and decided to come up something as fun and helps learn new feature of SQL Server 2012.   • SQL query. An unusual join. DB implemented in sqlite-3

    This is essentially a question about constructing an SQL query. The db is implemented with sqlite3. I am a relatively new user of SQL. I have two tables and want to join them in an unusual way. The following is an example to explain the problem. Table 1 (t1): id year name ------------------------- 297 2010 Charles 298 2011 David 300 2010 Peter 301 2011 Richard Table 2 (t2) id year food --------------------------- 296 2009 Bananas 296 2011 Bananas 297 2009 Melon 297 2010 Coffee 297 2012 Cheese 298 2007 Sugar 298 2008 Cereal 298 2012 Chocolate 299 2000 Peas 300 2007 Barley 300 2011 Beans 300 2012 Chickpeas 301 2010 Watermelon I want to join the tables on id and year. The catch is that (1) id must match exactly, but if there is no exact match in Table 2 for the year in Table 1, then I want to choose the year that is the next (lower) available. A selection of the kind that I want to produce would give the following result id year matchyr name food ------------------------------------------------- 297 2010 2010 Charles Coffee 298 2011 2008 David Cereal 300 2010 2007 Peter Barley 301 2011 2010 Richard Watermelon To summarise, id=297 had an exact match for year=2010 given in Table 1, so the corresponding line for id=297, year=2010 is chosen from Table 2. id=298, year=2011 did not have a matching year in Table 2, so the next available year (less than 2011) is chosen. As you can see, I would also like to know what that matched year (whether exactly , or inexactly) actually was. I would very much appreciate (1) an indication (yes/no answer) of whether this is possible to do in SQL alone, or whether I need to look outside SQL, and (2) a solution, if that is not too onerous.

  • When is the right time to join open source project for programmer?

    Most of the newcomers in programming start with basic projects to start with programming. Most of the C++ progammers spend some time with puzzles and contests but this is not always helpful. Sometimes you've to spend some time on real projects. Starting your own open source project could be a problem in self-learning for newbie cause of lack of mentors and peers who can't look at your code and give suggestions. Open source projects can solve this problem, some projects could be best suited for new programmers. Besides everybody is newbie at some point. So i'll try and make this question a bit from beginners perspective. I tried few questions on stack overflow before asking this like How do i join & Bare minimum you need and how to get involved with open source and what level of programming etc. But this is not helping me when it comes to self-evaluating with skills. How to find that out ? How can i check what it takes to join open source project and am i really that comfortable with huge source code etc. My question is when to consider yourself comfortable joining open source programming ? I mean how will you test yourself that you're ready to take burden of big/small projects of open source ? how will you test yourself to see if you could work with version control/other programmers/tight schedule etc ?
