• Why configuring manual IP do not work for me in DHCP?

  I have broadband connection in my laptop. It's getting the IP by protocol. configuration is : ip : 192.168.1.2 subnet : 255.255.255.0 gateway : 192.168.1.1 Now I am curious, In IPV4 properties when instead of choosing "Obtain an IP address automatically", I choose "Use the following IP address" and configure everything same, why it do not work? Do DHCP do not work when we configure the IP manually? (operating system : windows-7) EDIT : After configuring the ip manually, when I used ipconfig/all , it's showing dhcp enabled : NO. I am not doing it. Why it got disabled automatically? and how to enable it?   I have set up a home web server using Ubuntu 12.10 and I can safely say that it works with regards to router forwarding and ports being found. I know this, because switched my hosting provider's VPS SOA record to use my ISP IP with an 'A' value and had my website running from home. This verified that my server was configured correctly so I started what I believe to be the final step in making my old desktop into a full DNS server.   I am looking for a smtp proxy to install on our gateway which should monitor outgoing smtp traffic to identify the source of recently occuring spam attacks from our network. It would be enough if this could log all outgoing mails, no actual filtering must be done as I'm going to do this manually. Also, is it possible to monitor smtps ports 465 and 587 or is it necessary to completely block these ports to stop spam?

• Routing between same network

  Hi In this scenario there is point -to point serial connection between R6 and R7 , there is router R10 whose interface F0/0 is having ip address of 10.1.1.2/24 and there is a host machine (R9) with ip address 10.1.1.1/24 which is running an application, My problem is that Application on R9 will only work when it will get its Gateway as 10.1.1.1/24 which is of router (R10) , is there any way i can make R6 and R7 transparent for R9 and R10, Or any type of routing using GRE / Route-map or any other way. • No external network on ubuntu 9.10, though dns works..

  Hi, I have a weird problem I cant solve. I have several computers, two with xubuntu 9.10 One of them, acting as a media server, has stopped to work when it comes to external network.. I can do for example: ping google.com Which gives me an ip adress back, like: name@Media:/etc$ ping google.com PING google.com (66.102.9.147) 56(84) bytes of data. That tells me it reaches the dns?, but I get no response at all... If I ping a local computer all works fine. I can also reach the computer via ssh without any problems. I have always used network manager, but now I uninstalled it and made the settings manually like this: /etc/network/interfaces auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.52 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.1 Still no luck. I have no specific settings for this one in my router, and all the other computers, including my win laptop works fine.   I have a virtual machine on Vsphere 5.0 running Ubuntu 12.04 when i put dinamic IP (/etc/network/interfaces) iface eth0 inet dhcp Ubuntu have network and i can do ping to google for example (8.8.8.8) but when i put static IP and configure resolv.conf My interfaces file: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.54 gateway 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 it lost the network and i cant do ping to anything...i dont understand where is the problem...   With the 11gR1 release, SALT now supports Web services transactions (WS-TX). In a nutshell, the SALT 11gR1 Web services gateway (GWWS) now supports bi-directional transactional interoperability. What this means is that Tuxedo application services can now be invoked in global transaction context using Web services. This feature is natural to a product like Tuxedo given its history as transaction processing monitor and its significant contribution to the X/Open (now the Open Group) XA specification. We implemented Web Services Coordination (WS-COOR) and Web Services Atomic Transaction (WS-AT). We also tested and certified with WebLogic Server 11gR1 and Microsoft WCF 3.5 (.Net Framework). Armed with a mobile device – smartphone or tablet – folks will use them to research, compare, and ultimately purchase.  A recent PayPal survey found that 46% of respondents plan to use a mobile device this holiday season to make a purchase.   An astounding 27% of consumers in an e-tailing group survey commissioned by Oracle, use a tablet device daily or several times a week to research products and services. Beyond researching or making purchases, 35% of consumers use their smartphone to receive offers and coupons, and 32% access coupons and redeem them at their local retail store.  And with GPS capabilities in smartphones and tablet (and with user’s approval), retailers will start pushing coupons and offers directly to phone users based on their proximity to their store (or their competitors). Security is one concern that both shoppers, companies and phone manufacturers will have to deal with in the coming years.  In that same Oracle-sponsored e-tailing group consumer survey, 32% of consumers were concerned about giving their credit card information via a smartphone. • Use Dynamic DNS to access Java servlet, still need port forward ?

  If I use Dynamic DNS such as the free service at https://www.dyndns.com, do I still need to set up static IP and do port forward ? I have a DSL, most likely with dynamic IP address, and I run a Java servlet to get Paypal IPN messages on my notebook, in order for the messages to reach my notebook, I : [1] set up static IP and [2] did port forwarding. But I found each time the PC re-starts, it has a different external IP, so I was suggested to [3] get Dynamic DNS service like the free one mentioned above, but now I'm a bit confused, if I have step [3], do I still need to do [1] and [2], isn't step [3] supposed to do [1] and [2] for me ? But since I've already done [1],[2], now I wonder if they would cause trouble for step [3], do I need to undo them ? Or do I need all of them together ?
