  • How to control an Ubuntu PC from another Ubuntu PC over Internet?

    There are two Ubuntu PCs called A and B. A and B are connected to the Internet using two separated Internet connections. (In my case, two mobile broadband connections ppp0 x2 ) Each connection has a unique & static public IP address. What I need is to control A computer's cursor, using B computer's mouse, over the Internet. In both computers, I have allowed other users to control my computer in Desktop Sharing preferences, as below: When I try to connect to A from the B using Remmina Remote Desktop Client, it refuses to connect after trying for a while. These are my settings: I expect this to be done from an available open source software, not from TeamViewer. I found this guide harder to understand. Please provide me clear instructions...     I have the following configuration: P == U ---------------- W P is a HP Laserjet, connected to U, which is an Ubuntu 10.04 desktop machine with a standard gnome setup from the live cd. I just selected the HP Laserjet in the gnome printer admin and it works, I can print locally. W is a remote windows machine, server 2003, and --- is an untrusted connection. I wonder if I can create an ssh tunnel between U and W, so W can print using U's printer service. Which ports will I need to forward and what kind of printer must I add then on the windows machine?

  • Desktop sharing options for Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity

    I would like to be able to access my office Ubuntu 12.04 machine from home, from a Mac Mini with Mac OSX. I have a VPN and I am able to access my office machine over SSH, so connectivity is not a problem. I browsed other questions, and it seems that there are several options: VNC XRDP FreeNX (haven't heard this one before) Are there any other? I have been using Remote Desktop on Windows before, and I actually like it. Not sure how well is XRDP implemented. I also used VNC several years back, and I didn't like its performance back then - not sure if things have changed since then. As I said above, the machine I want to access is running Ubuntu 12.04, with Unity. And I am using Unity by choice - I really like it and would like to continue using it :) The client computer is running Mac OSX (Snow Leopard). Based on your previous experience what is the best setup for this environment?

Here is explained what to do on Windows or Mac, and here I found a guide about how to do it with ubuntu, but it's not working to me (at the end of all the steps, I can't access to the mounted folder). I can access to the storage through Konqueror (I'm using KDE), but I would like to access to it also without it. Any suggestion?

  • How do I access an external drive mounted on a machine on my own network?

    I've got one desktop computer Ubuntu 11.04 with an external USB drive mounted on it on the home WRT54L Linux network (192.168.0.2), and when I arrive at home with my laptop, I want to be able to mount the external USB drive from my Ubuntu 11.04 laptop (192.168.0.3) to the desktop, without having to unplug it from the desktop, that is accessing it. Is it possible to send a remote mount command to the desktop usb drive from my laptop? Ideally something that creates a local mountpoint I can just call locally from the programs installed in my laptop, like: username@laptop ~ ./myprograminlaptop /my/file/which/is/actually/on/the/desktop/file.txt

    I've written a simple class for debugging and I call the method Debugger.WriteLine(...) in my code like this: Debugger.WriteLine("[Draw]", "InProgress", "[x,y] = " + x.ToString("0.00") + ", " + y.ToString("0.00") + "; pos = " + lastPosX.ToString() + "x" + lastPosY.ToString() + " -> " + posX.ToString() + "x" + posY.ToString() + "; SS = " + squareSize.ToString() + "; MST = " + startTime.ToString("0.000") + "; Time = " + time.ToString() + phase.ToString(".0000") + "; progress = " + progress.ToString("0.000") + "; step = " + step.ToString() + "; TimeMovementEnd = " + UI.MovementEndTime.ToString()); The body of the procedure Debugger.WriteLine is compiled only in Debug mode (directives #if, #endif). What makes me worry is that I often need ToString() in Debugger.WriteLine call which is costly because it creates still new strings (for changing number for example). How to solve this problem? A few points/questions about debugging/tracing: I don't want to wrap every Debugger.WriteLine in an IF statement or to use preprocessor directives in order to leave out debugging methods because it would inevitable lead to a not very readable code and it requires too much typing. I don't want to use any framework for tracing/debugging. I want to try to program it myself. Are Trace methods (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.diagnostics.trace.aspx) left out if compiling in release mode?   • visual studio attaching to a process in debug mode

    i have a strange problem. the dll that i built (lets call it my.dll) in c++ visual studio 2010 uses a third party library (say tp.lib) which in turn calls a third party dll (say tp.dll). for debugging prupose i have in configurationProperties-debugging-command: Excel.exe and configurationProperties-debugging-commandArguments: "$(TargetPath)" in my computer i also set PATH variable to the directory where tp.dll resides now when i hit the F5 in visual studio excel opens up with my.dll and crashes giving me a "cannot open in dos mode" error. the reason this happens is tp.dll is not deployed when debug version of my.dll is deployed. when i open an instance of excel seperately and manually drop the debug version of my.dll then everything works fine and i can see all my functions that i wrote in my.dll the only issue is now i do not know how to debug becuase i do not know how to attach visual studio to the instance of excel i opened up seperately. my question is: 1 how can i attach visual studio to an already opened instance of Excel or 2 how can i hit F5 and still make Excel pick up the required tp.dll from the directory specified in the PATH variable before it starts to deploy my.dll. any of these two will allow my to step through the code for the purpose of debugging. thanks in advance.

  • Visual Studio Debugging Issue

    Seeing an issue when debugging in Visual Studio. All of the values under watch, and in the hover over window show up incorrectly. the only values that show properly, are values that are local to the method I am currently stepping through. For example the watch value for 'this' when debugging shows the following under value 0x00000000ffac0388 { btnBack=0x00000000ffaccf20 btnReply=0x00000000ffacd200 btnForward=0x00000000ffacd420...} some other variables show this, even though the variable is there. error: 'this.foo' does not exist The machine recently had windows 7 64 installed, since then this problem has occured. Visual studio has been reinstalled on this machine, and we verified that the settings in visual studio were exactly the same as a different PC that is the same machine and config.

  • Dealing with unwanted port numbers on localhost when debugging in Visual Studio

    So when I'm trying to debug a project in Visual Studio, I'll often have 1 or more services that I need to call. These services are separate projects and I'll launch them in separate instances of VS. ASP dev server kindly launches them with temporary port numbers attached. This would be fine except for my programs are looking for an IP without a port attached. (Typically it's as simple as "localhost"!) I've coped by using web config settings and changing the xml to use the port number while debugging. This still doesn't always work and occasionally I'll still have to fudge it and insert port numbers as strings in code! UGH! Then I have to remember to undo all the port herding code before deployment... I want to stop doing this: string _strBaseURL = String.Format("http://{0}:2277", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["myservice_ip"].ToString()); What is the best practice here? Am I doomed to port herding while debugging VS apps?

    Hi, I used to remote access the SBS 2003 server through RDC and it has been working all the time but now I am unable to connect to the server. Whenever I pressed the "Connect" button on the Remote Desktop Connection dialog, a dialog with messages like "Connecting to: xx.xx.xx.xx" and "Configuring remote session..." appeared and then disappeared quickly, leaving the Remote Desktop Connection dialog there. How to fix the problem? Is the any way to reinstall the Remote Desktop on the server. Thank you.

  • Application Runs when Debugging but not when Published.

    When publishing my web application and then running it will return the error "Could not load file or assembly 'BaseApplicationName' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." However if I run the application through debugging (f5) it runs correctly. I guess what it comes down to is what differences are there when running an application through debugging vs publishing it that would cause a problem like this? When publising I have it set to delete all existing. History of how it started... I added the 32 bit Oracle.DataAccess dll to my 64 bit system. It would not work and crash giving the same error as above but with the Oracle.DataAccess name instead of the baseApplicationName. I have since removed all references to it and removed the dll to try and get it to run without it once again. Any advice?

  • NHibernate very slow during debugging

    Have anyone stumbled upon a problem where NHibernate is extremely slow in Visual Studio while debugging, but behaves normally when run separately? Logging is disabled and the time lost seems to be when the actual queries are executed, NHProfiler shows that queries were executed very quickly (on SQL side I presume), but each session with 10 queries takes about 4 seconds. I am using SQL Express Server. As I said, even if I turn on full logging and run my application without Visual Studio it is a magnitude faster. Update. After hours and hours of work towards the issue I was able to fix it by simply switching project type from Windows Application to Console Application (although in reality it's a Windows Service, but it always worked before with Windows Application project type). What could possibly be the difference to bring NHibernate to a halt in debugging mode?

  • VS 2008 unstable after "Stop Debugging"

    This was on Windows Server 2003 X86, VSTS 9.0.30729.1 SP I used "Attach to process" to debug the program, but recently when I "Stop Debugging" by "shift + f5", I was prompted with an error saying "VS has an internal error and will be unstable". After that all the debug related menu items were disabled e.g. "Start debugging" and "attach to process" etc., even when I forcibly closed the program the situation remained, leaving me the only option to restart the solution. The only reason I can think of causing this is that I forcibly kill the process a lot, in order to able to rebuild it quickly, other than that I didn't do anything abnormal to VS. another sympton: when I tried to close the VS normally, I was prompted with "source file [] does not belong to the project being debugged" for all the files I opened inside of IDE, but the file does belong to the project.     I am trying to monitor an application available on remote machine using VisualVM & Visual GC. I have enabled the jmxremote on the remote side as follows: -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote, -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=8888, -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false, -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false While monitoring through VisualVM, everything runs fine but VisualGC doesn't displays any stats (getting Not Supported for this JVM error). While tried to monitor one local application, VisualGC runs fine... Got success with the remote app once started jstad on the remote jvm. Is this a known issue with VisualGC...? Remote JVM - 1.5 Local JVM - 1.6

    When I'm debugging my Silverlight Appliction and I'm using a list internally I cannot hover over the list and see the items inside the list. I just see the RAW view of the list. If I want to see the items I have to write my own code which is tedious. Is this something normal to Silverlight? I DO have the correct list view when debugging in normal Console/WPF/... applications. Example: Silverlight: (link: click) See how there is no 'list view in the first example?     I am trying to create a bash script that will scp a script to a remote server, ssh (using an ssh key that is already installed) to the remote server, execute the uploaded script, and then delete the remote script when it is finished. I'm not clear how to run an ssh session inside a bash script. Here are the commands I use to do it from the command line: scp my_script.sh [email protected]:/usr/home/user/ ssh [email protected] >sh my_script.sh >rm myscript.sh >exit How do I script the ssh portion of my command list?   • Forward local port or socket file to remote socket file

    Hi All, Quick question - I run two linux boxes, one my own desktop and the other my VPS. For security reasons on the VPS end I opted for socket connections to MySQL (/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock). I know I can tunnel like this: ssh -L 3307:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] if I set up the remote sql server to listen on some port, but what I want to know is can I do something like: ssh -L /path/to/myremotesqlserver.sock:/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock thereby tunnelling two sockets, as opposed to two ports? A perfectly acceptable solution would also be to forward a local port to the remote socket file, but where possible I'm trying not to have tcp servers running on the remote box.   • Setup Linksys 3200 remote access

    I'm trying to setup remote access for my linksys 3200 so that I can configure it through the WAN port. I have turned on remote access, however when I try to connect I get a 404 error. The settings I have are: When I try to access xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:9999 I just get a 404 error. I have allowed RDP access to a computer behind the router and this works fine on the same IP address. Any idea's on what else I have to do to allow remote management access? UPDATE: I tried changing the port to 80 and it works. Change it back to any other number and it doesn't work. Modem is setup with a DMZ to the router's IP. Why does it only work on port 80? BTW I can't use port 80 because there is a website hosted behind the router.

    I'm trying to enable permissions for a user on a Windows7 machine to use the built in feature called "Offer Remote Assistance" or "Windows Remote Assistance". This feature works fine if the user is added to the "domain admins" security group, but for security reasons, I cannot leave him in that group. This is within a SBS2003 Domain. I have added the user and also a group that he is apart of to the Small Business Server Remote Assistance Policy, after following some documentation I was able to find, but this has not worked.   • Expired Windows Server 2008 trial remote activation

    I have a remote server which has an expired license. I can't currently add the new license because of a licensing server error so I need to reboot the machine. My question is will I be able to remote desktop onto the machine and apply the new license or do I have to be physically at the server. I know an activation wizard usually appears and doesn't let you go any further but does this same wizard appear over remote desktop? I don't really want to reboot the machine only for it to not come up again.

I am trying to remote connect to the MySQL server however get the simple error "Can't connect to MySQL server on {IP}" I have already done the follow: * commented out the bind-address within the /etc/mysql/my.cnf * commented out skip-external-locking within the same my.cnf * "ufw allow mysql" * "iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp -m tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT" * setup an AZURE endpoint for mysql * "sudo netstat -lpn | grep 3306" does indeed show mysql LISTENING * "GRANT ALL ON *.* TO remote@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password'; * "GRANT ALL ON *.* TO remote@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'password'; * "/etc/init.d/mysql restart" * I can connect via SSH tunneling, but not without it * I have spun up an identical ubuntu 13.04 server on rackspace and SUCCESSFULLY connected using the same procedures outlined here. NONE of the above works on my azure server however. I thought the creation of an endpoint would work, but no luck. Any help please? Is there something I'm missing entirely?
