  • Once VPN connection is done, how do I proceed reaching the other side address space?

    I'm using Windows Azure and I created a VPN Site To Site, configured like this: My virtual network: My address space: 10.2.0.0/16 (65531) Subnet1: 10.2.1.0/24 (251) Subnet2: 10.2.2.0/24 (251) Gateway: 10.2.3.0/29 (3) My public gateway IP: 137.135.x.z (I wont show x and z for security reasons) This public gateway uses, as you can see, 5 IPs on subnet1 and 5 IPs on subnet2, and 5 IPs on the gateway "Their" virtual network (in azure this would be a "Local network") Their address space: 172.60.100.67/32, 172.60.100.68/32, 172.60.100.69/32 Their device public IP: x.x.x.x (ommited for security reasons) Notice their address space are 3 IPs So: the VPN is "in green" (in Azure is showing up green, literally, like these two are connected) and now my question is: How do I proceed to reach their address space? I've tried creating a virtual machine (Windows Server 2008, but it could be an Ubuntu) on "my" virtual network and it is automatically "placed" on subnet1 or subnet2. So it gets the IP 10.2.1.0 (valid example), I can't choose to place the virtual machine in the gateway address space. How do I "reach" any of the IPs 172.60.100.67, 172.60.100.68, 172.60.100.69 ? In other words: How can I telnet any of these IPs? or ping? or see them in my network? Please provide me answers for Windows Server 2008 or for an Ubuntu. I'm open to create any virtual machine.

  • What are those white circles on the desktop in Gnome 3?

    I have Fedora 20 with GNOME 3.10.2. On the desktop background (i.e. where the wallpaper is), there are five small white circles centered at the very bottom of the screen. The first is filled, the others are not. I can click those circles, thereby changing which one is filled, like a radio button. I cannot for the life of me figure out what those circles are supposed to do, and it's starting to drive me crazy. Clicking and thus changing which circle is filled does nothing I can perceive, and there seems to be no configuration option anywhere that has anything to do with them. What are those things? Is there any way to get rid of them? Edit: I made a screenshot of my desktop with no programs running. You can see the dot/circle thingies at the bottom.   • Apply Group Policy to Remote Desktop Services users but not when they log on to their local system

    Running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 with Remote Desktop Services role. I want to hide the servers drives using a GPO, but not the users local drives when they are logged on to their local system. Using a GPO, I went to "User Configuration - Policies - Administrative Template - Windows Components - Windows Explorer" and enabled "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" and "Prevent access to drives from My Computer" and in both used "Restrict all drives". Then under "Security Filtering" for the GPO, I restricted it to the system running Remote Desktop Services and the specific users who will be using RDS. I then applied the GPO to our domain and it worked a little too well. Not only was I successful in getting the GPO to work for RDS users, but it also affected those same users at their local systems as well. I've tried everything I can think of, but can't figure out how to apply this just to the RDS but not at their local system. What am I missing?

    Recently I expanded LAN in my office from 3 to 10 computers. Structure star topology, one ADSL Modem connected to One Switch which is again connected to 10 computers. Also we have Wifi device Netgear which is connected from switch. ADSL Modem acts as the DHCP Server, all the system will have default gateway IP (ADSL Modem's IP) Network latency is now become very high, All the chat severs disconnect often like google talk, skype etc, also internet become very very slow. when all the computer turned on. We have 4 Mbps Download and 100 Kbps upload Net speed. Its look like ADSL Modem cannot able to handle all the connections. I tried to setup a system as default gateway which will connect to modem, not sure how to do this. Please advice on this.

  • Windows 7 & Virtual PC and Internet (gateway) problems on host PC

    I upgraded to Windows 7 on a PC that is a few years old. The CPU was one revision away from having Hyper-V on it. So, I had to install Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (v6.0.156.0) to run full XP instances instead of the seamless XP virtualization that is advertised so much. That's fine though; the 'older' version is useful since I use it to run different versions of the whole XP/IE stack for testing. (I'm a web developer.) ...And for the one 16-bit application we still use at the office for scheduling. * sigh * The virtual instances work fine, including networking. My issue is that after a reboot or coming out of sleep mode, my host Windows 7 won't connect to the Internet. It will connect to the local network fine. If I disable the "Virtual Machine Network Services" item (I'll call "VMNS" from here on) in the LAN Connection properties box, it starts working. But than the Virtual PC instances lose their network connectivity. If I re-enable VMNS again in the same instance, everything works (Internet on host and in the virtualized instances). But after the next reboot/sleep cycle this starts over. The route table gave me a clue though. When doing a cycle w/ VMNS enabled: IPv4 Route Table =========================================================================== Active Routes: Network Destination Netmask Gateway Interface Metric 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 On-link 10.0.3.51 20 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.10.10 10.0.3.51 276 ... After VMNS is disabled, the first route goes away. I assume that is for VMNS to intercept virtualized instance's network connections and forward them correctly? Just a guess though. More info: I checked my Firewall settings and Services (because I'm sort of a control nazi and turn off a lot) but couldn't find anything that made sense and if turned on changed anything. So it might be something there I'm missing, but I don't know what. My current hacked solution: So, I figured I'd mess with the routes myself to see if that helped, it did. If I run a route delete 0.0.0.0 on the universal (0.0.0.0) gateway routes, and add back in just the 2nd line with route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 10.0.10.10--the one that points to my actual gateway (10.0.10.10)--then I don't have to mess with the disable/enable cycle of VMNS, and everything works. Running those two commands is faster then bringing up connection options and disabling and re-enabling VMNS, but I still don't want to have use that hack script every boot either. (Oh, and I also tried messing with hard-coding TCP/IP settings in my network adapter, including setting high metrics, etc., but that didn't help either.) Any suggestions on the right way to fix this?

  • Why does a Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc appear every time I connect to Windows Server 2003 SBS?

    I've run into a weird, persistent issue regarding a remote desktop connection. Every time I successfully log into a server running Windows Server 2003 SBS, without taking any further action, after a few seconds a print job spontaneously appears on my machine, titled "Remote Desktop Redirected Printer Doc". The document is 4K, datatype RAW, processor "WinPrint". I've heard of people running into this issue before, but can't seem to hunt down a coherent solution. It's a minor annoyance, but I get annoyed when Windows complains about a print job that, as far as I know, came from nowhere. Any thoughts on why this would occur and how I could prevent it from happening?

    We have set up a Vyatta Core 6.1 gateway on our network with three interfaces: eth0 - 1.1.1.1 - public gateway/router IP (to public upstream router) eth1 - 2.2.2.1/24 - public subnet (connected to a second firewall 2.2.2.2) eth2 - 10.10.0.1/24 - private subnet Our ISP provided the 1.1.1.1 address for us to use as our gateway. The 2.2.2.1 address is so the other firewall (2.2.2.2) can communicate to this gateway which then routes the traffic out through the eth0 interface. Here is our current configuration: interfaces { bridge br100 { address 2.2.2.1/24 } ethernet eth0 { address 1.1.1.1/30 vif 100 { bridge-group { bridge br100 } } } ethernet eth1 { bridge-group { bridge br100 } } ethernet eth2 { address 10.10.0.1/24 } loopback lo { } } service { nat { rule 100 { outbound-interface eth0 source { address 10.10.0.1/24 } type masquerade } } } With this configuration, it routes everything, but the source address after masquerading is 1.1.1.1, which is correct, because that's the interface it's bound to. But because of some of our requirements here, we need it to source from the 2.2.2.1 address instead (what's the point of paying for a class C public subnet if the only address we can send from is our gateway!?). I've tried binding to br100 instead of eth0, but it doesn't seem to route anything if I do that. I imagine I'm just missing something simple. Any thoughts?

My problem is that users connect to the server without a default gateway and also with ip conflicts, i can ping the server but i can not ping any user behind the server. please any one can help to find out what causes the clients to connect without a default gateway and also not to be able to ping any user behind the clearos open vpn server.   • Windows 7 Remote Desktop with dual monitors wont wake up.

    I run Windows 7 64bit with dual monitors at work. If i connect from home using remote desktop, the next morning i cannot wake up the monitors. The computer seems to be fine (i can connect again from another pc using remote desktop) but monitor will stay blank. I've tried unplugging the monitors and reconnecting them but still frustrating. The only solution is to restart the machine. Some specs if it helps. HP 3000 Pro Windows 7 Pro 64 bit ATI Radeon HD 4550 Samsung SyncMaster 2243 x2

  • backuppc - how to backup remote (over the internet) clients?

    I am testing out backuppc, which works great so far backing up windows clients on a LAN via SMB (no backup client/agent required). However I have quite a few laptops and desktops that are in various remote locations - some of which move around. I need some way to have that remote computer create an outgoing connection for backup purposes (Windows XP/7). I know backuppc supports smb, rsync and 'tar', but I believe these are all connections going from the server TO the client. SO, I either need a way to vpn the client on a timed basis, or it would be a lot better if the client could some how connect to the server (ssh?) and initiate it's own backup somehow (rsync?). Of course this all needs to be pre-installed by me and require no maintenance by the end user, no dialogs on their side. What do you think?

I am not talking / asking about A software which displays the whole desktop remotely (like VNC, Windows RDP). A X-windows server for windows, to connect to Linux. The answer here ( Windows Remote Desktop Connection for just a single window (or a single program) ) requires Windows Server 2008. I need to run this on two Windows 7 machines. Example: PC1 shows three windows, and I transfer, see, and control window 2 on PC2. -- Edit -- I have checked whether there is an X-Server for Windows <- Windows.   • howt setup remote access into computer behind 2 routers?

    I can setup remote access to a pc behind a single router/firewall by using NAT and Port Forwarding, simples! But there is a customer that shares an internet connection with another office, and they are behind a second router firewall. I drawed a picture with my crayons but I can't attach it because I'm a new account on SF. see it here: http://i.imgur.com/b3FDx.png So how would I setup remote access to the pc that is beind the second firewall? It must be something about static routes, i.e. if I hit the wan ip on port 4905 I want it to forward it to 10.0.0.30 by going through 192.168.1.10 so a route statement like for all requests to 10.0.0.30, use 192.168.1.10 ? and ass u me router 2 has a static gateway ip of 192.168.1.10 and need a standard NAT on router 2 to point port 4905 to 10.0.0.30 is this the right way, any tips? both routers are netgear consumer equipment. thanks

    My Windows7-german-64bit installation worked fine until today. But this morning I have suddenly lost all my desktop icons. I can re-enable the icons via right-click on desktop > Ansicht > Desktop Symbole anzeigen) (translation: right-click on desktop > View > Show Desktop Icons) But on logoff/logon the icons are lost again! Any help is very appreciated!

    I'm using my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T60) and I have a secondary monitor (which has a different resolution than my laptop screen) connected by VGA. Kubuntu recognizes the monitor and it functions but my desktop is mirrored (i.e. an identical copy) across the dual monitors (which is useless to me). How can I extend my desktop across both monitors? P.S. I googled it but the solutions I found weren't standard, they were hardware specific and you had to manually change system files, etc..     I am trying to copy a file from my desktop to my remote server using the sudo command. I am doing this from the remote machine since I know the password for this machine and I do not have a password for my local machine. sudo scp donj@localhost:/Desktop/my.cnf user@remotemachine:/app/MySQL/my.cnf This does not work however. I want to overwrite the my.cnf file in the MySQL directory. I tried the su command but I do not have the password to become a super user.

    I am running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 and I have X11 installed. I also have ubuntu 10.04 LTS running on a remote machine. I have root privileges. So far I haven't really installed anything besides the operating system. This was done in an amazon aws type of way. I see people talking about getting gnome or a "remote desktop" type of thing working, but I'm not sure how to go about this. I connected and then typed in gnome-session but nothing happened. Maybe I don't have that thing installed yet? Can someone point me in the right direction? Also, is it possible to just start an X11 session with a single app, like notepad or a file and folder browser?

But when i start working with him, he arguing me that he will not make stored procedures and web services. Instead of he suggested me to pass query as a parameter. Suppose If I have to call Search service, he told me to send POST request with 3 parameters: Query="select * from users", username=abd and password = 123 And i thing there is no such architecture in order to use remote data. Then he is saying it is possible through socket programming. And I am 100% sure this is not an appropriate way to access remote data. This is simply illogical. Thousands of iphone application using REST/SOAP services to make remote data connection He just declined me to provide RESTful services.     I have a mid-2008 workstation with two HD monitors supporting HDMI and DVI inputs. Since Ubuntu 11.10, I have experienced no end of trouble with my NVidia Quadro NVS 290 in TwinView dual-monitor output. Others have similar desktop TwinView woes. I want a new graphics card. Previously I asked for a graphics card recommendation and response was Nvidia Geforce GTS 450... but really I'm looking for someone who has actually got a working dual-monitor desktop to tell me what card they use so I can get something that is known to work. So please, people who have no-issues with their 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 Unity 3D desktop spread across two HD-resolution external monitors (either DVI or HDMI connector), and who also run Google Chrome (which throws a spanner due to its own GPU compositing)... please let me know what graphics card you have so I can buy one. Gathering Options These seem to be the Nvidia cards featuring dual DVI. But they all seem to be gaming cards - what has dual-DVI, good support, but is not a massive gaming card? Nvidia GTS 450 (previously recommended) - 2x DVI Nvidia GTX 550 Ti (used by System76) - 2x DVI Nvidia GT 430 (used by System76) - 1xDVI, 1xHDMI Nvidia GT 640 (found on NVidia site) - 1xDVI, 1xHDMI (also GT 620, GT 630) Has anyone had a good desktop dual-monitor Unity 3D experience with ATI cards?

  • Remote Working & Relocation

    Sorry if this question is a duplicate, I did some extensive searching and found nothing on quite the same topic (though a couple on partially-overlapping topics). Recently, whilst on holiday in Munich, Germany, I was taken aback by the sheer number of programming-related posts available in the city that I easily qualify for (both in terms of knowledge, and experience). The advertised working environments seemed good and the pay seemed to be at least as good as what I'd expect here in the UK. Probably 80% of the advertisements I saw on the underground were for IT-related jobs, and a good 60% of those I was easily qualified for. At the moment, I work as a freelancer mostly on web and small software projects, but seeing the vast availability of jobs in Munich versus my local area has me thinking about remote working. I'm unable to relocate for a job for the next 3 years (my wife has a contract to continue being a doctor at her current hospital for that time) but would almost certainly be open to it after that (after all, my wife and I both love Munich). In the meanwhile, I would be very interested in remote-working. So, my question is thus do companies ever take on remote workers (even with semi-frequent trips to the office) from abroad, with a view to later relocation? And, if so, how do you go about broaching the topic with a recruiter when getting in contact about a job posting? Language isn't a barrier for me, here, as 90% of the jobs I've looked up in Munich don't require German speakers (seems they have a big recruiting market abroad). I'm also under no illusions about the disadvantages of remote working, but I'm more interested in the viability of the scenario rather than the intricacies (at least at this point). I'd really appreciate any contributions, especially from those who have experience with working in such a scenario!

  • Ubuntu 12.04 desktop, VNC viewer not refreshing screen

    I've had this issues across multiple machines and multiple versions of Ubuntu desktop (all 10.04 or later). Usually it happens with an old laptop I've put Ubuntu on but now it's happening on my primary dev machine (a quad-core PC recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 desktop). The problem is this - I can connect to the machine and login with the password, the initial screen looks fine but never refreshes. I can see the monitor for the machine across the room and can see the mouse move and the menus pop up but the image of the screen on the PC in front me running the VNC viewer never updates. So the mouse and keyboard commands are working. Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop Ultra VNC Viewer (also seen with RealVNC's free VNC viewer) Desktop Sharing Static IP on eth0; Dynamic ID on eth1 I think it is an Ubuntu config issue because this PC used to work just fine with 9.04, 10.04, and 11.10 (over the past couple of years). I've also had a couple of laptops that used to have this issue with older Ubuntu's but don't with 12.04. Additional info: The Win7 PC I'm trying to use to control the Ubuntu PC is connected via 2 DLink 8-port gigabit routers. The Ubuntu laptop I usually control via VNC is typically only connected to the network via wireless. The screen refresh is choppy but usable. I've repeated the issue on a Win7 laptop which was connected via ethernet and wireless.
