• Deprecated errors when installing pear

  I'm trying to install PEAR on OS X. I did this: curl http://pear.php.net/go-pear > go-pear.php php go-pear.php After answering some prompts, I start getting tons of errors like this: Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /Users/jacobweber/bin/pear/temp/PEAR.php on line 563 PHP Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /Users/jacobweber/bin/pear/temp/PEAR.php on line 566 Now, I understand what these errors mean. I just want to hide them. So in my /private/etc/php.ini file, I have the following: error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_STRICT & ~E_DEPRECATED This hides those same errors in my own code. But in PEAR it doesn't. They seem to be changing the error_reporting level. Is there a good way to fix this?

  I'm currently getting started with Backbone.js. I've wrote some examples with Backbone and they are working fine. But now I need to use Backbone.js with Rails 3.1 and CoffeeScript. I took my well-working examples and rewrote on CoffeeScript using backbone-rails gem. And got the following problem. • Seam/JSF/Facelets Compiler or Validator (equivalent of JspC for JSP)

  Is there such a thing as JspC in the Seam/JSF/Facelets world? I used the Tomcat's JspC to validate a JSP/Struts application to validate if there are typos in the JSPs or some JSP was calling a Java function that didn't exist, etc. etc. From time to time I come across bugs in my current project (Seam/Facelets/RichFaces) where it's caused by a typo in action/value binding. And I think bugs like these can be caught using a program. Just wondering if someone has already written one. Basically a tool that can validate if the method/value binding are correct. I know this would be specially hard in Seam since names are Context sensitive and the tool should somehow figure out what the context is. But I think it should be easier to just check if the names are valid and the Objects bound to those names have the methods and/or properties being referred to in the JSF page. Thanks

• fail2ban log parsing too slow on Raspberry Pi - options? [migrated]

  I'm running fail2ban on a Raspberry Pi at 950MHz which I cannot overclock further. The Pi is occasionally subject to SYN floods on particular ports. I've set up iptables to throttle the rate of SYNs on the port of interest; when the throttle limits are exceeded, hosts which send SYNs are dropped into the REJECT chain and the particular SYN packet which exceeded the limit is logged. fail2ban then watches for these logged SYNs and, after seeing a few, temporarily bans the host for a short time (this is a transient issue in the app I'm working with). The problem is that the SYN floods can occasionally reach rates which are too fast for fail2ban to keep up with; I'll see 20-40 log messages per second, and eventually fail2ban falls behind and becomes ineffective. To add insult to injury, it continues consuming a LOT of CPU as it tries to catch up. I have verified that DROP chained packets from hosts already banned by fail2ban are not logged, and thus do not add to its load. What are my options here? I have a few ideas, but no clear path forward. Could I make the log-parse regex "easier" so it takes fewer cycles? Would using iptables --log-prefix to put a token near the start of the log message, and/or otherwise simplifying/altering the fail2ban regex help? Here is the current fail2ban config line containing a regex: failregex = kernel:.*?SRC=(?:::f{4,6}:)?(?P<host>[\w\-.^_]+) DST.*?SYN Is there a faster way for fail2ban to watch for the packets exceeding the limits than parsing kern.log? Could fail2ban be run under PyPy instead of CPython with minimal nonstandard wizardry (the OS is Raspbian 7, so, mostly Debian 7)? Is there something better than fail2ban that I could use to watch for the packets which exceed the SYN limits, and after N exceeds in X seconds, temporarily put the offending IP into the iptables DROP bucket, and take it out when the ban timer expires? Again, I'd vastly prefer a solution that uses as much software available in Debian as possible, though I can build Debian packages in a pinch.

  I have buttons on a toolbar in WPF. When I do the XAML: <ToolBar.Resources> <Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}"> <Setter Property="Width" Value="21"></Setter> <Setter Property="Height" Value="21"></Setter> </Style> </ToolBar.Resources> None of the buttons on the toolbar set their sizes accordingly. I have to go to each button and manually set their widths and heights to the desired values. Any idea why the Style on the toolbar does not work?

For example: Company is base class, Department is inherited from Company, and Company has association Employees to the User (one-to-many) and also association to the Country (many-to-one). • PHP script keeps doing mmap/munmap

  Hello, My PHP script contains a loop, which does nothing much more than echoing and dereferencing pointers (like in $tab[$othertab[$i]]- stuff). It was working great until yesterday, when this script starting being VERY slow (like 50 times slower than before). After using strace, i figured out that 90% of the time, the script does mmap/munmap. If, however, Province is not loaded as a transparent proxy, the Province instance which is part of RegionalFees' RegionalFeesId property has null Code and Region values, although the Id value is set correctly. It looks to me like I have a problem in how I'm joining the Province class - since if it's lazy loaded the id is set from tblRegionalFees, and it gets loaded independently afterwards - but I haven't been able to figure out the solution.

• Fastest way to calculate an X-bit bitmask?

  I have been trying to solve this problem for a while, but couldn't with just integer arithmetic and bitwise operators. However, I think its possible and it should be fairly easy. What am I missing? The problem: to get an integer value of arbitrary length (this is not relevant to the problem) with it's X least significant bits sets to 1 and the rest to 0. For example, given the number 31, I need to get an integer value which equals 0x7FFFFFFF (31 least significant bits are 1 and the rest zeros). Of course, using a loop OR-ing a shifted 1 to an integer X times will do the job. But that's not the solution I'm looking for. It should be more in the direction of (X << Y - 1), thus using no loops.

  I'm making a version of Martian Chess in java with AI and so far I THINK my move searching is semi-working, it seems to work alright for some depths but if I use a depth of 3 it returns a move for the opposite side...now the game is a bit weird because when a piece crosses half of the board, it becomes property of the other player so I think this is part of the problem. • My MS Access control displays no text for appended items following an append query

  The control in question is part of a datasheet-style subform that feeds off a multi-field combo-box. The control is bound to the first field of the combo box, an ID field which is hidden from view (column width set to zero). Consequently, the second field (Code) is displayed in the control when an item is selected from the combo box. I'm using a form button action to append values to this datasheet. It seems that because I need to INSERT ID values in, the control is unable to display the corresponding Code value. Nothing is visible, unless I go manually into the combo box and select an item from it. How can I get the control to display the Code value?

• Validate a string in a table in SQL Server - CLR function or T-SQL (Question updated)

  I need to check If a column value (string) in SQL server table starts with a small letter and can only contain '_', '-', numbers and alphabets. I know I can use a SQL server CLR function for that. However, I am trying to implement that validation using a scalar UDF and could make very little here...I can use 'NOT LIKE', but I am not sure how to make sure I validate the string irrespective of the order of characters or in other words write a pattern in SQL for this. Am I better off using a SQL CLR function? Any help will be appreciated.. Thanks in advance Thank you everyone for their comments. This morning, I chose to go CLR function way. For the purpose of what I was trying to achieve, I created one CLR function which does the validation of an input string and have that called from a SQL UDF and It works well. Just to measure the performance of t-SQL UDF using SQL CLR function vs t- SQL UDF, I created a SQL CLR function which will just check if the input string contains only small letters, it should return true else false and have that called from a UDF (IsLowerCaseCLR). After that I also created a regular t-SQL UDF(IsLowerCaseTSQL) which does the same thing using the 'NOT LIKE'. Then I created a table (Person) with columns Name(varchar) and IsValid(bit) columns and populate that with names to test. Data :- 1000 records with 'Ashish' as value for Name column 1000 records with 'ashish' as value for Name column then I ran the following :- UPDATE Person Set IsValid=1 WHERE dbo.IsLowerCaseTSQL (Name) Above updated 1000 records (with Isvalid=1) and took less than a second. I deleted all the data in the table and repopulated the same with same data. Then updated the same table using Sql CLR UDF (with Isvalid=1) and this took 3 seconds! If update happens for 5000 records, regular UDF takes 0 seconds compared to CLR UDF which takes 16 seconds! I am very less knowledgeable on t-SQL regular expression or I could have tested my actual more complex validation criteria. But I just wanted to know, even I could have written that, would that have been faster than the SQL CLR function considering the example above. Are we using SQL CLR because we can implement we can implement lot richer logic which would have been difficult otherwise If we write in regular SQL. Sorry for this long post. I just want to know from the experts. Please feel free to ask if you could not understand anything here. Thank you again for your time.

• Populating ComboBoxDataColumn items and values

  I have a "populate combobox", and I'm so happy with it that I've even started using more comboboxes. It takes the combobox object by reference with the ID of the "value set" (or whatever you want to call it) from a table and adds the items and their respective values (which differ) and does the job. I've recently had the brilliant idea of using comboboxes in a gridview, and I was happy to notice that it worked JUST LIKE a single combobox, but populating all the comboboxes in the given column at the same time. ObjComboBox.Items.Add("yadayada"); //works just like ObjComboBoxColumn.Items.Add("blablabla"); But When I started planning how to populate these comboboxes I've noticed: There's no "Values" property in ComboBoxDataColumn. ObjComboBox.Values = whateverArray; //works, but the following doesn't ObjComboBoxColumn.Values = whateverArray; Questions: 0 - How do I populate it's values ? (I suspect it's just as simple, but uses another name) 1 - If it works just like a combobox, what's the explanation for not having this attribute ? -----[EDIT]------ So I've checked out Charles' quote, and I've figured I had to change my way of populating these bad boys. Instead of looping through the strings and inserting them one by one in the combobox, I should grab the fields I want to populate in a table, and set one column of the table as the "value", and other one as the "display". So I've done this: ObjComboBoxColumn.DataSource = DTConfig; //Double checked, guaranteed to be populated ObjComboBoxColumn.ValueMember = "Code"; ObjComboBoxColumn.DisplayMember = "Description"; But nothing happens, if I use the same object as so: ObjComboBoxColumn.Items.Add("StackOverflow"); It is added. There is no DataBind() function. It finds the two columns, and that's guaranteed ("Code" and "Description") and if I change their names to nonexistant ones it gives me an exception, so that's a good sign. -----[EDIT]------ I have a table in SQL Server that is something like code  |  text —————    1    | foo    2    | bar It's simple, and with other comboboxes (outside of gridviews) i've successfully populated looping through the rows and adding the texts: ObjComboBox.Items.Add(MyDataTable.Rows[I]["MyColumnName"].ToString()); And getting every value, adding it into an array, and setting it like: ObjComboBox.Values = MyArray; I'd like to populate my comboboxColumns just as simply as I do with comboboxes.

  My new phone does not recognize a phone number unless it's area code matches the incoming call. Since I live in Idaho where an area code is not needed for in-state calls, many of my contacts were saved without an area code. Since I have thousands of contacts stored in my phone, it would not be practical to manually update them. I decided to write the following PHP script to handle the problem.   I've got a program that needs to convert two attributes of a particular tag to the key and value of an Dictionary<int,string>. The XML looks like this: (fragment) <startingPoint coordinates="1,1" player="1" /> and so far my LINQ looks something like this: XNamespace ns = "http://the_namespace"; var startingpoints = from sp in xml.Elements(ns+"startingPoint") from el in sp.Attributes() select el.Value; Which gets me a nice IEnumerable full of things like "1,1" and "1", but there should be a way to adapt something like this answer to do attributes instead of elements. • Regasm writes mscoree.dll into Registry key InprocServer32

  When I register my .NET Assembly with regasm.exe the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{111E32AD-4BF8-495F-AB4D-6C61BD463EA4}\InprocServer32 is set to "mscoree.dll". However, I am trying to mimic an existing COM-Server that was written in C. When registering this old COM-server the InprocServer32 is set to the full path to this component. Unfortunately the existing system (a plugin host that I can not change) reads and use this value - an is confused by the "mscoree.dll" value. My solution might be to patch this registry entry manually - but I would like to understand why regasm writes "mscoree.dll" into InprocServer32 .

  Hello, I have a working example of sending message to server and server receiving it via qpid messaging. I've done Jboss messaging using spring before, but I can't manage to do the same with qpid.   In Java, updating double and long variable may not be atomic, as double/long are being treated as two separate 32 bits variables. http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/second_edition/html/memory.doc.html#28733 In C++, if I am using 32 bit Intel Processor + Microsoft Visual C++ compiler, is updating double (8 byte) operation atomic? I cannot find much specification mention on this behavior. When I say "atomic variable", here is what I mean : Thread A trying to write 1 to variable x. Thread B trying to write 2 to variable x. We shall get value 1 or 2 out from variable x, but not an undefined value.

• jQuery: how to produce a ProgressBar from given markup

  So I'm using the ProgressBar JQuery plugin (http://t.wits.sg/misc/jQueryProgressBar/demo.php) to create some static progress bars. What I want to achieve is to from this markup: <span class="progress-bar">10 / 100</span> produce a progress bar with maximum value of 100 and current value of 10. I am using html() method to get the contents of the span and then split() to get the two numbers: $(document).ready(function() { $(".progress-bar").progressBar($(this).html().split(' / ')[0], { max: $(this).html().split(' / ')[1], textFormat: 'fraction' }); }); That doesn't work, any suggestions? I'm pretty sure the problem is with $(this).html().split(' / ')[0] and $(this).html().split(' / ')[1], is that a correct syntax?

I have tried adding ordering but It has had no effect on the result set. Could someone please provide an example of where the orderby would go assuming the query above. Thanks, Billy
