  • .net 3.5 to 4.0 Migration

    Currently we are doing a payroll application in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (.Net 3.5) using some of the latest features like WCF, WF and the development for the same has almost completed. However, clients have shown their interest in migrating the developed payroll application in Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (.Net 3.5) to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 (.Net 4.0). I don't have an idea about the expected challenges in the migration or if its just going to be very smooth. Any thoughts or comments?

  • C# BackgroundWorker RunWorkerCompleted Event

    My C# application has several background workers. Sometimes one background worker will fire off another. When the first background worker completes and the RunWorkerCompleted event is fired, on which thread will that event fire, the UI or the first background worker from which RunWorkerAsync was called? I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Any thoughts or suggestions you may have would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Changing image domain / path in css for production?

    Currently, for things like background images, our css files have no domain specified. This works both in our development and production environments. background-image: url(/images/bg.png); For performance reasons (cookie-less domain), we'd like to switch this: background-image: url(http://staticimagedomain.com/images/bg.png); Ideally, we don't hard code those, so our development environments can still pull locally. Any thoughts on how to best achieve this?

  • How to teach Django to non-web programmers? [closed]

I was thinking to just go through the Django tutorial with them, but are there things in there that wouldn't make sense to non-web programmers? Do they need any kind of webdev background first?   • Custom warning in Xcode

    I'm working on an API library and I'd like to add a few warnings that would appear when another developers builds the app if an optional apikey is not included. It should be buildable w/o the key (since it's optional) so I can't just add a syntax error to force a build error. I know Xcode supports TODO and FIXME but those aren't really highlighted anywhere major. Any other thoughts on how to approach this?

    Every time I start a hard problem and if can not figure out the exact solution or can not get started, I get into this never ending discussion with myself, as below: That problem solving/mathematics/algorithms skills are gifted (not that you can learn by practicing, by practice, you only master the kind of problems that you already have solved before) only those who went to good schools can do it, as they learned it early. What are your thoughts, can one achieve awesomeness in problem solving/algorithms just by hard work or you need to have that extra-gene in you?

  • Increasing the character length of the Title Column in Sharepoint Site

    Is it possible to increase the length of the Title column for a site above the 255 characters. My requirement is that I use a field that is longer than the maximum 255 chars but because the Title column is a required field I need to enter something in it. Rather than enter garbage just because I have to, I would like to use it. If not, then my current thoughts for a workaround will be make a copy of the first 255 chars of a seperate column that I am able to make longer.

  • SPAZ to connect to Laconica

    I installed a local version of Laconica microblogging in my env. Then I downlowaded SPAZ (an AIR client) to try and talk to the Laconica app. I get an authenitcation error. I have put in the appropriate credentials - I think :) But I think that I have to alter the API and base URL for connecting. Ayone have any thoughts on how to make these two apps talk ?     I have just downloaded the fresh copy of phppowerpoint and added the following line of code 'phppowerpoint' = MODPATH.'phppowerpoint', and now my page got blank and I got the following error: The character encoding of the HTML document was not declared. The document will render with garbled text in some browser configurations if the document contains characters from outside the US-ASCII range. The character encoding of the page must to be declared in the document or in the transfer protocol. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • In python beyond 'exec string' is there a way to 'import' using the db as a filesystem

    Although it does not seem possible, I wanted to put this out there to see if others had some innovative solutions to 'dynamically loading and executing code in python' So if one saved code in a database, one could read it and 'exec it', however if one wanted to use it in a similar fashion to the filesystem, one would need to 'save and load the compiled .pyc' create an 'import dbimp' ala 'import imp' etc. any pointers? ideas? thoughts?

  • Create jquery dropdown like RDP Menu Bar

    I'm not all that familiar with jquery so I'm not quite sure how to do this. Basically, I want a block of html to stay hidden at the top of the page with a ~3px edge sticking out (something to mouseover), and when you mouse over it, the hidden section slides down. Basically I want it to work like the RDP full screen menu bar works. Any thoughts on what the best way of doing this is?
