• Application stopped unexpectedly at launch

  I've run this on a device and on the emulator. The app stops unexpectedly on both. I have not a clue what is wrong currently. It uses Google API Maps I compiled with Google Api 7. • Oracle performance problem

  We are using an Oracle 11G machine that is very powerful; has redundant storage etc. It's a beast from what I have been told. We just got this DB for a tool that when I first came on as a coop had like 20 people using, now its upwards of 150 people. I am the only one working on it :( We currently have a system in place that distributes PERL scripts across our entire data center essentially giving us a sort of "grid" computing power. The Perl scripts run a sort of simulation and report back the results to the database. They do selects / inserts. The load is not very high for each script but it could be happening across 20-50 systems at the same time. We then have multiple data centers and users all hitting the same database with this same approach. Our main problem with this is that our database is getting overloaded with connections and having to drop some. We sometimes have upwards of 500 connections. These are old perl scripts and they do not handle this well. Essentially they fail and the results are lost. I would rather avoid having to rewrite a lot of these as they are poorly written, and are a headache to even look at. The database itself is not overloaded, just the connection overhead is too high. We open a connection, make a quick query and then drop the connection. Very short connections but many of them. The database team has basically said we need to lower the number of connections or they are going to ignore us. Because this is distributed across our farm we cant implement persistent connections. I do this with our webserver; but its on a fixed system. The other ones are perl scripts that get opened and closed by the distribution tool and thus arent always running. What would be my best approach to resolving this issue? The scripts themselves can wait for a connection to be open. They do not need to act immediately. Some sort of queing system? I've been suggested to set up a few instances of a tool called "SQL Relay". Maybe one in each data center. How reliable is this tool? How good is this approach? Would it work for what we need? We could have one for each data center and relay requests through it to our main database, keeping a pipeline of open persistent connections? Does this make sense? Is there any other suggestions you can make? Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sadly I am just a coop student working for a very big company and somehow all of this has landed all on my shoulders (there is literally nobody to ask for help; its a hardware company, everybody is hardware engineers, and the database team is useless and in India) and I am quite lost as what the best approach would be? I am extremely overworked and this problem is interfering with on going progress and basically needs to be resolved as quickly as possible; preferably without rewriting the whole system, purchasing hardware (not gonna happen), or shooting myself in the foot. • Why does IHttpAsyncHandler leak memory under load?

  I have noticed that the .NET IHttpAsyncHandler (and the IHttpHandler, to a lesser degree) leak memory when subjected to concurrent web requests. In my tests, the development web server (Cassini) jumps from 6MB memory to over 100MB, and once the test is finished, none of it is reclaimed. The problem can be reproduced easily. Create a new solution (LeakyHandler) with two projects: An ASP.NET web application (LeakyHandler.WebApp) A Console application (LeakyHandler.ConsoleApp) In LeakyHandler.WebApp: Create a class called TestHandler that implements IHttpAsyncHandler. In the request processing, do a brief Sleep and end the response. Add the HTTP handler to Web.config as test.ashx. In LeakyHandler.ConsoleApp: Generate a large number of HttpWebRequests to test.ashx and execute them asynchronously. As the number of HttpWebRequests (sampleSize) is increased, the memory leak is made more and more apparent. • Installed Perl DBI Module Can't Be Found

  I'm trying to setup a Perl development environment on my Mac laptop and have been having a really hard time getting it working. I thought I had everything configured correctly but when I try to run a sample script it is reporting errors with the DBI module and can't access the DB. • Reading off a socket until end of line C#?

  I'm trying to write a service that listens to a TCP Socket on a given port until an end of line is recived and then based on the "line" that was received executes a command. Which doesn't really work for what I want to do. My main issue is the decoupling of the OnDataReceived method from the Wait for data method. which means I'm having issues building a string (I would use a string builder but I can accept multiple connections so that doesn't really work. Ideally I'd like to look while listening to a socket until I see and end of line character and then call a method with the resulting string as a parameter. What's the best way to go about doing this.

• View Generated Source (After AJAX/JavaScript) in C#

  Is there a way to view the generated source of a web page (the code after all AJAX calls and JavaScript DOM manipulations have taken place) from a C# application without opening up a browser from the code? Viewing the initial page using a WebRequest or WebClient object works ok, but if the page makes extensive use of JavaScript to alter the DOM on page load, then these don't provide an accurate picture of the page. I have tried using Selenium and Watin UI testing frameworks and they work perfectly, supplying the generated source as it appears after all JavaScript manipulations are completed. Unfortunately, they do this by opening up an actual web browser, which is very slow. I've implemented a selenium server which offloads this work to another machine, but there is still a substantial delay. Is there a .Net library that will load and parse a page (like a browser) and spit out the generated code? Clearly, Google and Yahoo aren't opening up browsers for every page they want to spider (of course they may have more resources than me...). Is there such a library or am I out of luck unless I'm willing to dissect the source code of an open source browser? SOLUTION Well, thank you everyone for you're help. I have a working solution that is about 10X faster then Selenium. Woo! Thanks to this old article from beansoftware I was able to use the System.Windows.Forms.WebBrwoswer control to download the page and parse it, then give em the generated source. Even though the control is in Windows.Forms, you can still run it from Asp.Net (which is what I'm doing), just remember to add System.Window.Forms to your project references. There are two notable things about the code. First, the WebBrowser control is called in a new thread. This is because it must run on a single threaded apartment. Second, the GeneratedSource variable is set in two places. This is not due to an intelligent design decision :) I'm still working on it and will update this answer when I'm done. wb_DocumentCompleted() is called multiple times. First when the initial HTML is downloaded, then again when the first round of JavaScript completes. Unfortunately, the site I'm scraping has 3 different loading stages. 1) Load initial HTML 2) Do first round of JavaScript DOM manipulation 3) pause for half a second then do a second round of JS DOM manipulation. For some reason, the second round isn't cause by the wb_DocumentCompleted() function, but it is always caught when wb.ReadyState == Complete. So why not remove it from wb_DocumentCompleted()? I'm still not sure why it isn't caught there and that's where the beadsoftware article recommended putting it. I'm going to keep looking into it. I just wanted to publish this code so anyone who's interested can use it.   My WCF Service has an OperationContract that accepts, as a parameter, an array of objects. This can potentially be quite large. After looking for fixes for Bad Request: 400, I found the real reason: the maximum message size. I know this question has been asked before in MANY places. I've tried what everyone says: "Increase the sizes in the client and server config files." I have. It still doesn't work. • Get User SID From Logon ID (Windows XP and Up)

  I have a Windows service that needs to access registry hives under HKEY_USERS when users log on, either locally or via Terminal Server. I'm using a WMI query on win32_logonsession to receive events when users log on, and one of the properties I get from that query is a LogonId. To figure out which registry hive I need to access, now, I need the users's SID, which is used as a registry key name beneath HKEY_USERS. In most cases, I can get this by doing a RelatedObjectQuery like so (in C#): RelatedObjectQuery relatedQuery = new RelatedObjectQuery( "associators of {Win32_LogonSession.LogonId='" + logonID + "'} WHERE AssocClass=Win32_LoggedOnUser Role=Dependent" ); where "logonID" is the logon session ID from the session query. Running the RelatedObjectQuery will generally give me a SID property that contains exactly what I need. There are two issues I have with this. First and most importantly, the RelatedObjectQuery will not return any results for a domain user that logs in with cached credentials, disconnected from the domain. Second, I'm not pleased with the performance of this RelatedObjectQuery --- it can take up to several seconds to execute. Here's a quick and dirty command line program I threw together to experiment with the queries.   On SortedMap.subMap This is the API for SortedMap<K,V>.subMap: SortedMap<K,V> subMap(K fromKey, K toKey) : Returns a view of the portion of this map whose keys range from fromKey, inclusive, to toKey, exclusive. This inclusive lower bound, exclusive upper bound combo ("half-open range") is something that is prevalent in Java, and while it does have its benefits, it also has its quirks, as we shall soon see. The following snippet illustrates a simple usage of subMap: static <K,V> SortedMap<K,V> someSortOfSortedMap() { return Collections.synchronizedSortedMap(new TreeMap<K,V>()); } //... A generic version that also takes e.g. Long keys is not possible (see related questions) Not to mention that for Long, we need to compare against Long.MAX_VALUE instead Overloads for the numeric primitive boxed types Byte, Character, etc, as keys, must all be written individually A special check need to be made for toInclusive == Integer.MAX_VALUE, because +1 would overflow, and subMap would throw IllegalArgumentException: fromKey > toKey This, generally speaking, is an overly ugly and overly specific solution What about String keys? Or some unknown type that may not even be Comparable<?>? So the question is: is it possible to write a general subMapInclusive method that takes a SortedMap<K,V>, and K fromKey, K toKey, and perform an inclusive-range subMap queries? Related questions Are upper bounds of indexed ranges always assumed to be exclusive? Is it possible to write a generic +1 method for numeric box types in Java? On NavigableMap It should be mentioned that there's a NavigableMap.subMap overload that takes two additional boolean variables to signify whether the bounds are inclusive or exclusive. Had this been made available in SortedMap, then none of the above would've even been asked. So working with a NavigableMap<K,V> for inclusive range queries would've been ideal, but while Collections provides utility methods for SortedMap (among other things), we aren't afforded the same luxury with NavigableMap.   I want to know as to how to configure known types in WCF. For example, I have a Person class and an Employee class. The Employee class is a sublass of the Person class. Both class are marked with a [DataContract] attribute. I dont want to hardcode the known type of a class, like putting a [ServiceKnownType(typeof(Employee))] at the Person class so that WCF will know that Employee is a subclass of Person. • Parsing a Directory of files - Check for a String

  This is my first post here so kindly pardon any mistakes that I have. I'm still learning to find my way around Stack Exchange. I am trying to write a Java program that tries to scan a Directory full of either .txt,.rtf or.doc files(and none other). The aim is to search all the files in the directory, and find out if a particular string exists in the file. If it does, it returns the string and the filename that it found the string in. The aim of this program is, it is a project for school wherein the program scans the personal folders of call center employees to check if they have stored any CC/DC nos and if yes, report the folder name - to reduce CC fraud. The search function was fairly straight forward and works when I individually specify the filename. However, the searching the directory and passing the files to the search function has me stumped.   Hi All, In below code in a Gird First column is BaseFieldControl from a column of type Choice of SPList. Secound column is a text box control with textchange event. Both the controls are created at rowdatabound event of gridview. Now the problem is that when Steps: 1) select any of the value from BaseFieldControl(DropDownList) which is rendered from Choice Column of SPList 2) enter any thing in textbox in another column of grid. 3) textchanged event fires up and in textchange event rebound the grid. Problem: the selected value becomes the first item or the default value(if any). but if i do not rebound the grid at text changed event it works fine.   Hi! I have a problem with a WCF service, which tries to serialize too much data. From the trace I get an error which says that the maximum number of elements that can be serialized or unserialized is '65536', try to increment the MaxItemsInObjectGraph quota. So I went and modified this value, but it is just ignored (the error is the same, with the same number). All this is server-side. I am calling the service via wget for the moment. • wpf exit thread automatically when application closes

  Hi, I have a main wpf window and one of its controls is a user control that I have created. this user control is an analog clock and contains a thread that update hour, minute and second hands. Initially it wasn't a thread, it was a timer event that updated the hour, minutes and seconds but I have changed it to a thread because the application do some hard work when the user press a start button and then the clock don't update so I changed it to a thread. Currently I have a few methods to do so, however I have no idea how I could implement them when the file contains textboxes with background image. The question has to link with the image. • Custom event loop and UIKit controls. What extra magic Apple's event loop does?

  Does anyone know or have good links that explain what iPhone's event loop does under the hood? We are using a custom event loop in our OpenGL-based iPhone game framework. It calls our game rendering system, calls presentRenderbuffer and pumps events using CFRunLoopRunInMode. See the code below for details. It works well when we are not using UIKit controls (as a proof, try Facetap, our first released game). However, when using UIKit controls, everything almost works, but not quite. Specifically, scrolling of UIKit controls doesn't work properly. For example, let's consider following scenario. We show UIImagePickerController on top of our own view. UIImagePickerController covers our custom view We also pause our own rendering, but keep on using the custom event loop. As said, everything works, except scrolling. Picking photos works. Drilling down to photo albums works and transition animations are smooth. When trying to scroll photo album view, the view follows your finger. Problem: when scrolling, scrolling stops immediately after you lift your finger. Normally, it continues smoothly based on the speed of your movement, but not when we are using the custom event loop. It seems that iPhone's event loop is doing some magic related to UIKit scrolling that we haven't implemented ourselves. Now, we can get UIKit controls to work just fine and dandy together with our own system by using Apple's event loop and calling our own rendering via NSTimer callbacks. • MSBuild condition across projects

  I have tried several solutions for this problem. Enough to know I do not know enough about MSBuild to do this elegantly but I feel like there should be a method. I have a set of libraries for working with .net projects. A few of the projects utilize System.Web.Mvc - which recently released Version 2 - and we are looking forward to the upgrade. Currently sites which reference this library reference it directly by the project(csproj) on the developer's computer - not a built version of the library so that changes and source code case easily be viewed when dealing code from this library. This works quite well and would prefer to not have to switch to binary references (but will if this is the only solution). The problem I have is that because of some of the functionality that was added onto the MVC1 based library (view engines, model binders etc) several of the sites reliant on these libraries need to stay on MVC1 until we have full evaluated and tested them on MVC2. I would prefer to not have to fork or have two copies on each dev machine. Other bits: we are using VS2008, Resharper, TeamCity for CI, SVN for source control.
