• How to extend the Turbogears 2.1 login functionality

  I'm using Turbogears 2.1 and repoze.who/what and am having trouble figuring out how to extend the basic authentication functionality. I am essentially attempting to require users to activate their account via an emailed link before they can login. If they try to login without activating their account, I want to display an appropriate error message. The default Turbogears functionality simply displays one message for all errors. I created my own authentication plugin which works fine. It won't allow users to login if they have not activated their account. However, the problem comes when I try to create the form and display custom error messages. How can I go about doing this? Thanks

• Should GSON ignore varying types if they're not used in a class?

  I'm making an API call that returns JSON which has a particular field which either returns false or a map depending on content. It's a field that I don't care about. I expected GSON to ignore this particular field, though it doesn't seem to be. The object generation fails with the following message: com.google.gson.JsonSyntaxException: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Expected a string but was BEGIN_OBJECT at line 1 column 403560 I've seen this particular question (Gson deserialize json with varying value types). I want to make sure I need to make a custom deserializer before doing so. I'm wondering if I may have another issue. edit: Example: "anonymous_flag": { } vs "anonymous_flag": "yes" Another Edit: I actually had the field in my model object... I was referencing the wrong class. Judge away :)

• Passing a enum value as a tag attribute in JSP

  I have a custom JSP tag which is using a parameter which is an enum. This approach is a consequence of using other classes which need this enumeration. The point is I have no clue how to assign an enum value in the EL: <mytaglib:mytag enumParam="${now what do I type here?}" /> The only workaround which I found so far was to make the enumParam an Integer and convert it to desired values: <mytaglib:mytag enumParam="3" /> I believe there must be a better way to do it. Please help.

• Active Index is not being persisted in jQuery accordion change event

  I have an asp.net aspx page and on that page I have a hidden input field with and id of paneIndex. However, when I load the page, the alert shows index 1 which is correct on the first load, but if I open up pane 3 for example, the alert shows 1 still. Am I doing something wrong? Checking all subtypes of Object wich qualify for serialization It seems I can't use Serializable for my List... I could use my own interface instead (something like AsyncDataInterface, wich implements the Serializable interface) but the fact is that my method will return a list custom objects AND basic objects (such as Strings, int....). So my questions are: Is it a standart behaviour? (I can't figure out why I can't use this interface in that case) Does anyone have a workaround for that kind of situation?

• Why do I have a page hit for 404.php after each legitimate pagehit?

  I'm working with an intranet system that, on each page, checks the user's cookie, verifies that they can see the current page based on database permissions, and records a page hit that includes their id and the page URL. I just noticed that in the pagehits table, I see an entry for 404.php (my custom 404 page specified in the Apache config) one second after each legitimate page hit. Is this probably my fault, or does it have something to do with how Apache decides to load the 404 page? I'm using Apache 2.2.14 (Win32) and PHP 5.3.2.

  I'm writing an application that sends files over network, I want to develop a custom protocol to not limit myself in term on feature richness (http wouldn't be appropriate, the nearest thing is the bittorrent protocol maybe). I've tried with twisted, I've built a good app but there's a bug that makes my GUI blocking, so I've to switch to another framework/strategy. What do you suggest? Using raw sockets and using gtk mainloop (there are select-like functions in the toolkit) is too much difficult? It's viable running two mainloops in different threads? Asking for suggestions

  Hi, I' m implementing a custom STL map. I need to make sure that any data type (basic or user defined) key will work with it. I declared the Map class as a template which has two parameters for the key and the value. My question is if I need to use a string as the key type, how can I overload the < and operators for string type keys only?? In template specialization we have to specialize the whole class with the type we need as I understand it. Is there any way I can do this in a better way?? What if I add a separate Key class and use it as the template type for Key? Thank You!!

  Hi! In my UITableView I have custom cells. My UITableView have a repeatable background myTableView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithPatternImage: [UIImage imageNamed: @"backg.png"]]; I set my cells to have their background (clear); UIView *backView = [[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero] autorelease]; backView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; cell.backgroundView = backView; This makes the cell have the same background as the TableView.. Problem is; That seems that every cell loads myTableView.backgroundColor once again. And the background are not being repeatble as it should. I want to have the cells totally with no background at all, instead they loads up myTableView.backgroundColor once again. Here is one example. Can anyone help me?

• Creating a pie chart for an app

  I'm developing an app which requires a pie chart to display a set number of modules. The modules need to be clickable, sending a value to the database for how many times the module has been clicked. The slices will change color etc depending on this database value. The slices will always be equal in size. All simple stuff. My question is what charting system would you use. I've been looking at google charts but I have no way of registering a value in a slice without changing its 'weight' in the chart. So ideally I would like to add data-stage="2" to each slice that I can access with a custom method. Also google charts seems quite heavy for what I need? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Joe

• Is XML-RPC bad used as a protocol for a public API implementation?

  I need to implement a web API for a project I'm working on in this period. I read there are many standard protocols to do it: XML-RPC, SOAP, REST. Apparently, the XML-RPC one is the easiest one to implement and use from what I saw, but I didn't find anything about using it to implement an API. Instead I found many tutorial about creating a REST API in PHP, for example. Is there any counter-indication for using XML-RPC to implement a public web API? Also, more generally speaking, I could (sort of) define a custom protocol for my API, to keep things simpler (i.e. accepting only GET request containing the parameters I need): would this be so bad? Is using a standard protocol a must-do?

• Serialising and Deserialising Requests and Responses exactly as WCF does

  I need to deserialise SOAP request XML to .Net request object and to serialise .Net response object to SOAP response XML. I need this to work exactly as WCF does, using the same XML element local names and namespace URIs. The .Net request and response classes were generated from WSDL using SVCUTIL. I have looked at XmlSerializer class, which does most of it, but doesn't take notice of certain WCF-specific custom attributes, like MessageBodyMemberAttribute. I also looked at DataContractSerializer, but that had exceedingly strange ideas about what element names and namespaces to use. Finally, I tried XmlSerializer with an XmlTypeMapping generated by a SoapReflectionImporter; this didn't seem to use any namespaces at all. I rather suspect that I need to be using one of the above techniques, but with some additional subtlety, of which I am unaware. But perhaps there is an entirely different approach? All suggestions welcome.

I added "Choice Filter" webpart for month and set connection to list (this works). I added second "Choice Filter" for year and I wanted to do the same.   Hi! I want to include an initialized data structure in my request object, making it accessible in the context object from my templates. What I'm doing right now is passing it manually and tiresome within all my views: render_to_response(...., ( {'menu': RequestContext(request)})) The request object contains the key,value pair which is injected using a custom context processor. While this works, I had hoped there was a more generic way of passing selected parts of the request object to the template context. I've tried passing it by generic views, but as it turns out the request object isn't instantiated when parsing the urlpatterns list.

• Android animation doesn't work, probably some kind of screen redraw problem.

  I have created a custom component in my program by extending a ViewGroup. This component listens to touch events and are supposed to start animations when the user has move their finger past some certain points. I'm able to start animations while the user is touching the screen. But I'm not able to start animations if the user doesn't move their finger. It's probably that the phone thinks it doesn't have to update the screen if the user isn't moving their finger. I added some logs and according to them the animation starts and ends but it doesn't draw on the screen. I have the same problems when starting an animation with a timer. I use AlphaAnimations and TranslateAnimations on ImageViews. I have tried to use invalidate() both on the component and the ImageView but it doesn't help. Anyone who has an idea how to solve this?

• Capistrano update causes C: to be placed in the current directory (cygwin)

  When I run cap deploy:update in a directory on my local machine (via cygwin), "C:" magically appears in the directory. Sure enough, I can cd to it and it's my windows C: drive. Now I'm afraid to delete it, but I definitely don't want it in this directory (a rails project under /home/username/blah/blah).   Hello, I had inserted two jQuery tabs on my site. One div container had the id - tabs and another had the id tabs-for-views. Both of them were working fine till sometime ago, until i made some changes. I don't remember what the exact changes were.. Right now, the first tab uses the jQuery UI theme I am using. As in, I can see the tab navigation and content panels - but on clicking the tabs nothing happens. But the second (tabs-for-views) is not even converted to proper tabs format. • How to use Visual Studio and IIS7 together?

  Hi folks, i'm trying to use Visual Studio 2010 (but this also happens with VS2008) as my web server for all locahost development. When i go into the properties for my web application (sigh, it's a legacy web FORMS app) and check the Web tab .. then check the Use Local IIS Web Server option ... it only allows me to create a virtual directory against a website. Why?! this is not what I want :( I wanted to have my own IIS7 website (no virtual directory) and debug against that. Can anyone help me? As a side note, i tried to use the third option Use Custom Web Server .. which ends up pointing to my localhost iis7 server. Now, this works ... but when i wish to Start Debugging .. it errors :( (it's not sure how to attach to that process or something?) So - can anyone out there please help?
