• How to Implement Project Type "Copy", "Move", "Rename", and "Delete"

  You've followed the NetBeans Project Type Tutorial and now you'd like to let the user copy, move, rename, and delete the projects conforming to your project type. When they right-click a project, they should see the relevant menu items and those menu items should provide dialogs for user interaction, followed by event handling code to deal with the current operation. Right now, at the end of the tutorial, the "Copy" and "Delete" menu items are present but disabled, while the "Move" and "Rename" menu items are absent: The NetBeans Project API provides a built-in mechanism out of the box that you can leverage for project-level "Copy", "Move", "Rename", and "Delete" actions. All the functionality is there for you to use, while all that you need to do is a bit of enablement and configuration, which is described below. If you were to run the application right now, all the Actions we're interested in would be enabled (if they are visible, as described in step 4 below) but when you invoke any of them you'd get an error message because each of the DefaultProjectOperations above looks in the Lookup of the Project for the presence of an implementation of a class for handling the operation. That's what we're going to do in the next step. Provide Implementations of Project Operations. For each of our operations, the NetBeans Project API lets you implement classes to handle the operation. The dialogs for interacting with the project are provided by the NetBeans project system, but what happens with the folders and files during the operation can be influenced via the operations. Below are the simplest possible implementations, i.e., here we assume we want nothing special to happen. When you run the application, you should see this: Let's now try out the various actions: Copy. When you invoke the Copy action, you'll see the dialog below. Provide a new project name and location and then the copy action is performed when the Copy button is clicked below: The message you see above, in red, might not be relevant to your project type. When you right-click the application and choose Branding, you can find the string in the Resource Bundles tab, as shown below: However, note that the message will be shown in red, no matter what the text is, hence you can really only put something like a warning message there. If you have no text at all, it will also look odd.If the project has subprojects, the copy operation will not automatically copy the subprojects. Take a look here and here for similar more complex scenarios. Move. When you invoke the Move action, the dialog below is shown: Rename. The Rename Project dialog below is shown when you invoke the Rename action: I tried it and both the display name and the folder on disk are changed. Delete. When you invoke the Delete action, you'll see this dialog: The checkbox is not checkable, in the default scenario, and when the dialog above is confirmed, the project is simply closed, i.e., the node hierarchy is removed from the application. • Session Evaluations

  I do a lot of public speaking. I write, teach, present and communicate at many levels. I love to do those things. And I love to get better at them. And one of the ways you get better at something is to get feedback on how you did. That being said, I have to confess that I really despise the “evaluations” I get at most venues. From college to technical events to other locations, at Microsoft and points in between, I find these things to be just shy of damaging, and most certainly useless. And it’s not always your fault. Ouch. That seems harsh. But let me ask you one question – and be as honest as you can with the answer – think about it first: “What is the point of a session evaluation?” I’m not saying there isn’t one. In fact, I think there’s a really important reason for them. In my mind, it’s really this: To make the speaker / next session better. Now, if you look at that, you can see right away that most session evals don’t accomplish this goal – not even a little. No, the way that they are worded and the way you (and I) fill them out, it’s more like the implied goal is this: Tell us how you liked this speaker / session. The current ones are for you, not for the speaker or the next person. It’s a popularity contest. Don’t get me wrong. I want to you have a good time. I want you to learn. I want (desperately, oh, please oh please) for you to like me. But in fact, that’s probably not why you went to the session / took the class / read that post. No, you want to learn, and to learn for a particular reason. Remember, I’m talking about college classes, sessions and other class environments here, not a general public event. Most – OK, all – session evaluations make you answer the second goal, not the first. Let’s see how: First, they don’t ask you why you’re there. They don’t ask you if you’re even qualified to evaluate the session or speaker. They don’t ask you how to make it better or keep it great. They use odd numeric scales that are meaningless. For instance, can someone really tell me the difference between a 100-level session and a 200-level one? Between a 400-level and a 500? Is it “internals” (whatever that means) or detail, or length or code, or what? I once heard a great description: A 100-level session makes me say, “wow - I’m smart.” A 500-level session makes me say “wow – that presenter is smart.” And just what is the difference between a 6 and a 7 answer on this question: How well did the speaker know the material? 1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  10 Oh. My. Gosh. How does that make the next session better, or the speaker? And what criteria did you use to answer? And is a “10” better than a “1” (not always clear, and various cultures answer this differently). When it’s all said and done, a speaker basically finds out one thing from the current session evals: “They liked me. They really really liked me.” Or, “Wow. I think I may need to schedule some counseling for the depression I’m about to go into.” You may not think that’s what the speaker hears, but trust me, they do. Those are the only two reactions to the current feedback sheets they get. Either they keep doing what they are doing, or they get their feelings hurt. They just can’t use the information provided to do better. Sorry, but there it is. Keep in mind I do want your feedback. I want to get better. I want you to get your money and time’s worth, probably as much as any speaker alive. But I want those evaluations to be accurate, specific and actionable. I want to know if you had a good time, sure, but I also want to know if I did the right things, and if not, if I can do something different or better. And so, for your consideration, here is the evaluation form I would LOVE for you to use. Feel free to copy it and mail it to me any time. I’m going to put some questions here, and then I’ll even include why they are there. Notice that the form asks you a subjective question right away, and then makes you explain why. That’s work on your part. Notice also that it separates the room and the coffee and the lights and the LiveMeeting from the presenter. So many presenters are faced with circumstances beyond their control, and yet are rated high or low personally on those things. This form helps tease those apart. It’s not numeric. Numbers are easier for the scoring committees but are useless for you and me. So I don’t have any numbers. We’re actually going to have to read these things, not put them in a machine. Hey, if you put in the work to write stuff down, the least we could do is take the time to read it. It’s not anonymous. If you’ve got something to say, say it, and own up to it. People are not “more honest” when they are anonymous, they are less honest. So put your name on it. In fact – this is radical – I posit that these evaluations should be publicly available. Forever. Just like replies to a blog post. Hey, if I’m an organizer, I would LOVE to be able to have access to specific, actionable information on the attendees and the speakers. So if you want mine to be public, go for it. I’ll take the good and the bad. (This is the most important question there is. It tells us how to make the session better for someone like you.) 3. If you were giving this presentation, would you have done anything differently? What? (Helps us to gauge you, the listener, and might give us a great idea on how to do something better. Thanks!) 4. What will you do with the information you got? (Every presenter wants you to learn, and learn something useful. This will help us do that as well or better)

But I don't know why it keeps reporting the http error 416. I searched in google and found the following description of the error but it doesn't seem to help much. HTTP ERROR 416 - Requested Range Not Satisfiable A 416 status code indicates that the server was unable to fulfill the request. This may be, for example, because the client asked for the 800th-900th bytes of a document, but the document was only 200 bytes long. It suggests me to use the --skip-broken option, I tried and the output is the same. I already tested many times, it just doesn't work when the --security option is used. What could be the possible cause for this problem?

  Is anyone aware of an org-sort function / modification that can refile / organize a group of TODO so that it sorts them by three (3) criteria: first sort by due date, second sort by priority, and third sort by by title of the task? EDIT: I believe that org-sort by deadline (?d) has a bug that cannot properly handle undated tasks. I am working on a workaround (i.e., moving the undated todo to a different heading before the deadline (?d) sort occurs), but perhaps the best thing to do would be to try and fix the original sorting function.   I have Debian server with 32 gb memory. And there is apache2, memcached and nginx on this server. Memory load always on maximum. Only 500m free. Most memory leak do MySql. Apache only 70 clients configured, other services small memory usage. When mysql use all memory it stops. And nothing works, need mysql reboot. Mysql configured use maximum 24 gb memory. I have hight weight InnoDB bases. (400000 rows, 30 gb). And on server multithread daemon, that makes many inserts in this tables, thats why InnoDB. There is my mysql config. • UAC being turned off once a day on Windows 7

  I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. Actually, this does not happen if it happened once on a specific day. For example, when I start the machine in the morning, it shows up; but it never shows up in the subsequent restarts within that day. On the next day, the same thing happens again. I never disable UAC, but obviously some rootkit or virus causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I can't fix it. First, I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus and malware/rootkit activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. I went to an old Restore Point using Windows System Restore, but the problem was not solved. I have carefully examined all entries in the Event Viewer, but there's nothing wrong. Now I know that there is a hidden trojan (rootkit) on my machine which seems to disguise itself quite successfully. Note that I don't have the chance to remove the HDD, or reinstall the OS as this is a work machine subjected to certain IT policies on a company domain. Despite all my attempts, the problem still remains. I strictly need a to-the-point method or a pukka rootkit remover to remove whatever it is. I don't want to monkey with the system settings, i.e. disabling auto runs one by one, messing the registry, etc. EDIT 2: I have found an article which is closely related to my trouble: Malware can turn off UAC in Windows 7; “By design” says Microsoft. The application: Sends a SOAP message to a British Government Server to get an authentication token based on the arugments passed Retrieves a response from that server in the form of a string which contains the authentication token. I have a template of the SOAP message from the British Government, and a WSDL file for the service. What I have tried Add a service reference using the WSDL file. I received the following error: URI formats are not supported. Add a Web Reference using the URL of the service.   I want to be able to take the user to the requested page after login, but this does not happen with sfGuard. ** My Register action requires SignIn ;) ** On the listing page [http://cim/frontend_dev.php/] - user clicks the 'Register' link [@register = register/index] - user is taken to 'Signin' page provided by sfGuard - after sign-in, user is taken back to the Listing page (instead of Register) This is quite annoying! But logical, because the referrer is the listing page. How can I change logic to make @register the referrer? • Uploadify Not Working

  Hello, I'll re-edit this to tackle the uploadify issue. Its very strange, essentially the script isn't uploading and isn't triggering onAllComplete. Also if I try to upload an image that's to large, and click Upload files, it skips from 0 to 100%. But does not trigger onAllComplete. It does not upload either. Whats strange, is I have an earlier revision of this and the codes no different and it works, ive tried switched back to the same jquery/uploadify/layout and it still doesnt work. However due to the nature of uploadify not being very forthcoming about errors or whats going on, I can't figure out where its going wrong! • Load application context problem in Maven managed spring-test TestNg

  I try to setup a project with spring-test using TestNg in Maven.   I'm trying to transform one XML format to another using XSL. Try as I might, I can't seem to get a result. I've hacked away at this for a while now and I've had no success. I'm not even getting any exceptions. I'm going to post the entire code and hopefully someone can help me work out what I've done wrong. • Django doesn't refresh my request object when reloading the current page.

  I have a Django web site which I want ot be viewable in different languages. Until this morning everything was working fine. Here is the deal. I go to my say About Us page and it is in English. Below it there is the change language button and when I press it everything "magically" translates to Bulgarian just the way I want it. On the other hand I have a JS menu from which the user is able to browse through the products. I click on 'T-Shirt' then a sub-menu opens bellow the previously pressed containing different categories - Men, Women, Children. The link guides me to a page where the exact clothes I have requested are listed. BUT... When I try to change the language THEN, nothing happens. I go to the Abouts Page, change the language from there, return to the clothes catalog and the language is changed... I will no paste some code. You don't have to understand it or even look at all of it. I've published it just in case because I really can't understand the origins of the bug. Now this is how I have narrowed the problem. I am debuging with "raise Exception(request)" every time I want to know what's inside my request object. When I place this in my aboutUs method, the language cookie value changes every time I press the language button. But NOT when I am in the displayClothes method. There the language stays the same. Also I tried putting the exception line in the beginning of the @base method. It turns out the situation there is exactly the same. When I am in my About Us page and click on the button, the language in my request object changes, but when I press the button while in the catalog page it remains unchanged. That is all I could find, and I have no idea as to how Django distinguishes my pages and in what way. P.S. The JavaScript I think works perfectly, I have tested it in multiple ways.   Hi All, I'm trying to figure out how to call a WCF service from a windows smart phone. I have a very simple smartphone console app, which does nothing but launch and make 1 call to the service. The service simply returns a string. I am able to instantiate the proxy class but when i call the method it throws an exception: There was no endpoint listening at http://mypcname/Service1.svc/basic that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details. The inner exception: Could not establish connection to network. I've tried to follow this tutorial on setting up services with windows mobile. I've used the NetCFSvcUtil to create the proxy classes. I have the service running on IIS on my machine and had the Util consume the wsdl from that location. I've created a basic http binding as suggested in the article and i think i've pointed the proxy at the correct uri. Here some sections of relevant code in case it's helpful to see. If anyone has any suggestions, i'd really appreciate it. I'm not sure what else i can poke at to get this thing to work. Thanks!   Hi Everyone, I downloaded the sample code to request a rate from fedex's website... i placed the WSDL file in the proper location, I have my acct number, password, meter number, and key. • Problem with room/screen/menu controller in python game: old rooms are not removed from memory

  I'm literally banging my head against a wall here (as in, yes, physically, at my current location, I am damaging my cranium). Basically, I've got a Python/Pygame game with some typical game "rooms", or "screens." EG title screen, high scores screen, and the actual game room. Something bad is happening when I switch between rooms: the old room (and its various items) are not removed from memory, or from my event listener. Not only that, but every time I go back to a certain room, my number of event listeners increases, as well as the RAM being consumed! (So if I go back and forth between the title screen and the "game room", for instance, the number of event listeners and the memory usage just keep going up and up. The main issue is that all the event listeners start to add up and really drain the CPU. I'm new to Python, and don't know if I'm doing something obviously wrong here, or what. If I remove the schema from the XML file and the validation from the PL file then it works fine. I am using the default namespace. If I change it to not use the default namespace (xmlns:lib="http://libs.domain.com" and prefix all items in the XML file with lib and change the XPath expressions to include the namespace prefix (/lib:library/lib:book) then it again works file. Why? and what am I missing? • problem with my texture coordinates on a square.

  Im very new to OpenGL ES, and have been doing a tutorial to build a square. The square is made, and now im trying to map a 256 by 256 image onto it. The problem is, im only seeing a very zoomed in portion of this bitmap; Im fairly certain my texture coords are whats wrong here. • Rails User-Profile model challenges

  I am attempting to create an enrollment process similar to SO's: route to an OpenID provider provider returns the user's information to the UsersController (a guess) UsersController creates user, then routes to the ProfilesController's new or edit action. For now, I'm simply trying to create the user, then route to the ProfilesController's new or edit action (not sure which I should be using). I'm having two problems: When saving an edit to the User model, the UsersController attempts to route to http://localhost:3000/users/1/profile.%23%3Cprofile:0x10438e3e8%3E, instead of http://localhost:3000/users/1/profile When the new-profile form is being rendered, it throws an error that reads: undefined method `user_profiles_path' for # Is it better to create a blank profile when the user is created (in the UsersController), then edit it OR follow the rest-ful convention of creating the profile in the ProfilesController (as I have done)? What am I missing? I did review Associating Two Models in Rails (user and profile), but it didn't address my needs. Thanks for your time.
