  Hi, a linear linked list is a set of nodes. Any Ideas? Update: Maybe there is a recursive way since the linear linked list is a recursive data structure. I would take the first element, iterate through the list until I get to a node that has no child and append the first element, I would repeat this for the second, third....

• Can't grab foreign key during after_create callback because it doesn't exist yet!

  I have some models all linked together in memory (parent:child:child:child) and saved at the same time by saving the top-most parent. This works fine. I'd like to tap into the after_create callback of one of the children to populate a changelog table. One of the attributes I need to copy/push into the changelog table is the child's foreign_key to it's direct parent, but it doesn't exist at the time after_create fires!?! Without the after_create callback, I can look in the log and see that the child is being saved before it's parent (foreign key blank) then the parent is inserted... then the child is updated with the id from the parent. The child's after_create is firing at the right time, but it happens before Rails has had a chance to update the child with the foreign_key. Is there any way to force Rails to save such a linkage of models in a certain order? ie.parent, then child (parent foreign_key exists), then that child's child (again, foreign_key is accessible) etc. ?? If not, how would I have my routine fire after a record is created AND get the foreign_key? Seems a callback like this would be helpful: after_create_with_foreign_keys

• What do I do if a user uploads child pornography?

  If my website allows uploading images (which are not moderated), what action do I take if a user uploads child pornography? I already make it easy to report images, and have never had this problem before, but am wondering what the appropriate response is. My initial thought is to: Immediately delete (not just make inaccessible) the image File a report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children with all information I have on the user (IP, URL, user-agent, etc.), identifying myself as the website operator and providing contact information Check any other images uploaded by that IP user and prevent them from uploading in the future (this is impossible, but I can at least block their account). This seems like a good way to be responsible in reporting, but does this satisfy all of my legal and moral responsibilities? Would it be better not to delete the image and to just make it inaccessible, so that it can be sent to the National Center for Missing & Exploted Children, the police, FBI, etc?

• SharePoint Discussion Board "Last updated" field is not updated any more.

  On of our SharePoint users informed me today about a strange behavior of a discussion board on one of his sites. Normally the standard "subject" view of an discussion list has a field named "Last updated" showing the date and time of the last post within the corresponding thread. On the discussion board of our user this field is never set to the date/time of the last post but stays on the date/time when the thread was started. The site on which the discussion board is located was created from a custom web site template which includes the empty discussion board. To narrow this problem I created a second discussion board on the same site, with the result that it sets the Last updated field correctly. Any suggestions why the Last updated field doesn't update any more?

• Apache2 mod_proxy to remote Tomcat7 - slow response

  Been stuck with this one for a few days. Will try to provide as much information as possible, but please feel free to ask for extra detail. I have 2 VMs behind a NAT, 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.102, both running Ubuntu 11.04 x64. The first one is mapped to the exterior and is our webserver, has one Apache/2.2.17 install with several vhosts to serve static content, and there's also mod_jk for load balancing. The second one has a tomcat 7 install with several J2EE REST webservices but no apache - requests are expected to be passed directly from .100 apache to .102 tomcat. It is my intention to prepare a tomcat clustered environment. My problem: Requests reach to 192.168.0.100 with no trouble whatsoever, but then take about... 100 seconds for data to actually arrive to .102 - by that time apache has already timeouted, but tomcat receives and processes the request pretty normally. This happens both when using mod_jk, mod_proxy, or mod_ajp_proxy. No idea why, since there are no firewalls in either of the machines, both are pingable - more than that, there are NFS shares active working like a charm - and a mod_proxy experience shown that requests originating directly from .100 are processed normally. Also, to add insult to injury, a similar environment is set up at our office network. Everything works perfectly. -_- The only difference? We have no ip translation at the office and do everything by internal addresses - dunno if that's relevant in any way.   My target XHTML document (simplified) is like the following: <html> <head> </head> <body> <span class="boris"> </span> <span class="boris"> </span> <span class="johnson"> </span> </body> </html> I'm trying to select the last of class "boris." The XPath expression //span[@class="boris"] selects all spans of class boris. How do I select the last one of these? I've tried //span[@class="boris" and last()] which doesn't work because last() here refers to the last span in the WHOLE DOCUMENT. How do I select all the spans of class boris... and then the last one of these? I've read 5 or 6 XPath tutorials and done a lot of Googling and I can't find a way to do this in XPath alone :( Thanks in advance for help :)

• Optimizing hierarchical transform

  I'm transforming objects in 3D space by transforming each vector with the object's 4x4 transform matrix. In order to achieve hierarchical transform, I transform the child by its own matrix, and then the child by the parent matrix. This becomes costly because objects deeper in the display tree have to be transformed by all the parent objects. This is what's happening, in summary: Root -- transform its verts by Root matrix Parent -- transform its verts by Parent, Root matrix Child -- transform its verts by Child, Parent, Root matrix Is there a faster way to transform vertices to achieve hierarchical transform? What If I first concatenated each transform matrix with the parent matrices, and then transform verts by that final resulting matrix, would that work and wouldn't that be faster? • What language and tools can I use to create a simple game with child-lock (capture all key press) for Windows? [closed]

  I'm writing an open source program that changes colors & plays sounds when keys are pressed. I want it to run in full screen mode and have a child-lock so kids can't exit accidentally. I want it to capture all keys including ctrl alt delete. (So it's partially a game, but partially windows utility.) My target OS is Windows 7 (32 & 64 bit), keeping Windows 8 in mind. My options: Visual Studio using .net C# Windows Forms - the devil I know. But not a "game" platform, which is why I'm asking this question. Visual Studio & XNA - have never used XNA, not sure of capabilities or support future Python - What flavor, what modules, what IDE? I've never done anything with Python but I found a couple of similar open source projects in python. Something else that I don't know about? Any input is appreciated.

• Great Silverlight User Group meeting last night - Thanks Joel!

  Last night's Silverlight User Group meeting in Phoenix went really well. We had about 15 in attendance, and everyone seemed engaged with Joel Neubeck's great Windows Phone 7 presentation. When it was over, we gave away a couple copies of Windows 7 Ultimate, one copy of the Expression Suite, an Arc Mouse, a web cam, a bunch of books, other assorted software and some TShirts.  All-in-all I think it was a good time had by all. Thanks to Joel Neubeck for the time and presentation and to Joe's mom for the babysitting! See you all next month.

• All tweak settings not saving after last 2 updates?

  I am running Ubuntu GNOME 14.04. After the last 2 updates, all settings in the Tweak menu are no saving. It will also not switch to the Gnome Dark theme at all. This includes all Startup Application changes as well as any changes to Extension settings. I'm not sure if I need to include any sort of log records or anything like that, so if you need any more information please ask. I've noticed the default fonts seem to be different. I don't remember that being part of the theme settings. It's almost like I'm running in Safe Mode.

  Future time: Since installing Ubuntu 12.04, I regularly have to fun fsck and reset my clock because it shows a 'future time' : Err.Msg. "superblock last mount time is in the future by less than a day, probably due to hardware clock being incorrectly set." FIXED. According to what I have read, it looks like I'm in the right place to get an answer. • How long does a MacBook Pro battery last on a single charge?

  On the official apple website it says that all Macbook pro batteries last for 7 hours, and 8 hours on the 17" macbook pro. However when I called my local apple retailer and asked him, he said the battery has a 'stand by' time of 7 hours, but if I were doing something like using an IDE to program and not watching videos, etc it could last upto 5-6 hours. When I asked him about why the official site says 7 hours, he said yes but he didn't want to lie to me, and actually the battery only lasts 5-6 hours. Does anyone who owns a macbook pro shed any light on this, such as how long the battery will actually last? I'll be buying a 15" macbook pro.

• Database which only holds indexes and last X records in memory?

  I'm looking for a data store that is very memory efficient while still allowing many object changes per second and disregarding ACID compliance for the last X records. I need this database for a server with not much memory and I can make a key-value store, document, or SQL database work. The idea is that indexes/keys are the only thing I need in memory and all the actual values/objects/rows can be saved on disk do to the low read rate (I just want index/key lookup to be fast). I also don't want records constantly being flushed to disk, so I would like the last X number of records to be held in memory so that 100 or so of them can all be written at once. I don't care if I lose the last 10 seconds worth of objects/values. I do care if the database as a whole is in danger of becoming corrupt. Is there a data-store like this?

• File property information (last write time and file size) in explorer out of date by hours over netw

  An application is running on a windows XP prof machine picking up file from a network share from another windows machine. It detects that the file has been updated (by date and time or optionally file size) and reads it for any new data. Most of the time the last write time and file size, seems to be up to date. Occasionally, this information stops being updated, even though the file is growing (intermittently during the day) with appended content, so that the last write time and file size remain fixed at some arbitrary moment. This is visible in explorer, where it shows a fixed last write time on the reading machine. Just opening the file to edit it in notepad, immediately refreshes the file properties, and the other application picks up where it left of. The file location can't be changed, nor the location of the relevant applications. Any solutions to resolve this problem?

  I am using Infragistics 2009 vol 1. My UltraGrid is bound to a BindingList of business objects "A" having themself a BindingList property of business objects "B". It results in having two bands: one named "BindingList`1", the other one "ListOfB" thanks to the currency manager. I would like to refresh the GroupBy sort of the grid whenever a change is performed on the child band through the child business object and INotifyPropertyChange. • asp.net, how to change text color to red in child nodes in VB codes?

  I got everything worked now by list of server Name but I want to add a IF statement by checking a column from SQL Server called Compliance by either True or False value listed. If it False, the Name will change text color to Red. If it True, the Name won't change text color. I am not sure how add that in VB codes side. • How to Change an MFC Modeless Dialog to be the child of a CView in an MDI application?

  I have an MFC application that is a Doc/View/Frame implementation. One dialog is running as a modeless dialog which pops up on demand (from a menu option). I'm looking to add the modeless dialog to an MDI child view. Basically, I want to load the template from the resource file, and create it as a child of the CView in my new trio (doc/view/frame) that I am adding to the template lists for the MDI. I've tried a few things in my derived CMyView class: void CMyView::OnInitialUpdate() { m_ListDialog = new Dialogs::CListDialog( m_config, this ); m_ListDialog->Create( Dialogs::CListDialog::IDD, this ); m_ListDialog->ShowWindow( SW_SHOW ); } I've tried calling SetWindowPos, ModifyStyle (WS_CHILD, WS_VISIBLE, DS_CONTROL). I've tried modifying the resource file to set the child and control manually. Everytime it calls Create, the ListDialog's m_hWnd is left as 0. This tells me it's not getting created properly. Any call to SetWindowPos() or ShowWindow() fails because the m_hWnd is 0 (debug assertion fails). What do I need to do to get a modeless dialog to be constructed, created, and appear as a child to CMyView in my MDI application?
