  • Regular - Take all numeric characters following a text character

    Given a string in the format: XXX999999v99 (where X is any alpha character and v is any numeric character and v is a literal v character) how can I get a regex to match the numeric chatacters following the v? So far I've got 'v\d\d' which includes the v but ideally I'd like just the numeric part. As an aside does anyone know of a tool in which you can specify a string to match and have the regex generated? Modifying an existing regex is one thing but I find starting from scratch painful!

    I have a file with many rows. Each row has a column which may contain comma separated values. I need each row to be distinct (ie no comma separated values). Here is an example row: AB AB10,AB11,AB12,AB15,AB16,AB21,AB22,AB23,AB24,AB25,AB99 ABERDEEN Aberdeenshire The columns are comma separated (Postcode area, Postcode districts, Post town, Former postal county). So the above row would get turned into: AB AB10 ABERDEEN Aberdeenshire AB AB11 ABERDEEN Aberdeenshire AB AB12 ABERDEEN Aberdeenshire ... ... I tried the following but it didn't work...   • Regular expression does not find the first occurrence

    I have the following input to a perl script and I wish to get the first occurrence of NAME="..." strings in each of the ... structures. The entire file is read into a single string and the reg exp acts on that input. However, the regex always returns the LAST occurrence of NAME="..." strings. Can anyone explain what is going on and how this can be fixed? I have not used the re module in Python before...so I am assuming there is a better way to do this... I am also open to a more graceful solution with Beautiful Soup ... but haven't used that either.. Just trying to keep this as simple as possible...

    I already managed to split the CSV file using this regex: "/,(?=(?:[^\"]\"[^\"]\")(?![^\"]\"))/" But I ended up with an array of strings that contain the opening and ending double quotes. Now I need a regex that would strip those strings of the delimiter double quotes. As far as I know the CSV format can encapsulate strings in double quotes, and all the double quotes that are already a part of the string are doubled. For example: My "other" cat becomes "My ""other"" cat" What I basically need is a regex that will replace all sequences of N doublequotes with a sequence of (N/2 - rounded down) double quotes. Or is there a better way ? Thanks in advance.

The entire file is read into a single string and the reg exp acts on that input. However, the regex always returns the LAST occurrence of NAME="..." strings.     I need to validate a text box where users are supposed to enter numeric values with 2 decimal places. I am validating the text in client side javascript. The validation will pass only if the number has precisely 2 decimal places, and there is at least 1 digit before the decimal point. (could be zero) the number before the decimal point can be 0, but can not be multiple zeroes. like 00 or 000 The number before the decimal point can not begin with more than 1 zero. Example of Passed validation: 0.01 0.12 111.23 1234.56 012345.67 123.00 0.00 Example of failed validation .12 1.1 0.0 00.00 1234. 1234.567 1234 00123.45 abcd.12 12a4.56 1234.5A I have tried with [0-9][.][0-9][0-9]$ But it is allowing alphabets before decimal point. like 12a4.56 Can anyone please fix the expression? thanks a lot in advance.

So I have the following pattern : "(..\)" which works as expected for the path "....\a\b" where it will give me 2 successfull groups ("..\") but when I try the path "..\a\b" it will also return 2 when it should be 1. I tried this in a reg ex tool such Expresso and it seems to work as expected in there but not in in .net, any ideas?
