  • How can I connect integrated webcam with virtualbox

    I am trying to use a Windows XP VM for VirtualBox on my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have tried the usual attaching USB device but I get an error saying "USB device is busy with previous request". My webcam is not active in any applications and this happens after a clean reboot of the host, the guest, and VirtualBox. Here are the details: Host -HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC (stock) -Windows 8.1 -AMD A10-5750M APU -HP Truevision HD (integrated webcam) VM I got the VM here: http://www.modern.ie/en-us/virtualization-tools VirtualBox -VirtualBox 4.3.12 installed -VirtualBox Extension pack installed -Guest additions are installed for 4.3.12 -Enable USB Controller is checked -It does not matter if enable 2.0 controller is checked or not -It does not matter if a USB device filter is set up for the webcam or not -Here is the error message: Failed to attach the USB device DDFEQ01G45BFBV HP Truevision HD [0004] to the virtual machine IE8 - WinXP.     Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on 'best practices' for using global state in a web application - specifically PHP, although im looking for generic best practices i.e. design patterns etc. At the moment I just use a static class, calling it Configs. I suppose this is similar to using the registry pattern but surely there is a more elegant way of handling global data within an application - i just cant think of a better way though.

  • CheckBox checked state in a ListView

    I'm using a ListView with CheckBox, but as most of you know, when you roll down the scroll, a checked CheckBox gets unchecked as you roll up back the scroll. So i've been reading and i found out that you can pass (using getView) the id of the CB to the position parameter of getView to save the CheckBox state! But i can't use getView with SimpleCursorAdapter, can i? Because i'm using bindView! Thanks

    I have a complex URL rewriting scheme which breaks the built in Forms Authentication ReturnUrl mechanism. I would like to grab the requested URL for later redirection away from my login.aspx. I can get this URL in Application_BeginRequest via HttpContext.Current.Request.AppRelativeCurrentExecutionFilePath. However, Session state is not available in Application_BeginRequest. How can I store this URL prior to ASP.NET redirecting me to login.aspx?

    I am currently saving viewstate of pages in cache. I can see that viewstate is rebinding values and controls on PostBack. It is working properly on postback. However, I need to recreate state on a non-post back page.The key i'm using for loading viewstate from cache is being passed in the querystring but I am unable to find a way to force viewstate to load on a non-post back page. Is there any way to force a load of viewstate on a Non-Postbacked Page?

    Is it possible to check for pressed keys without using the KeyboardEvent? I have an ENTER_FRAME event setup called enterFrameHandler and I want to check within the function enterFrameHandler if any keys are pressed. normally when using a KeyboardEvent I could check for keys easily using a switch that checks the KeyCode of the event, but in an ENTER_FRAME event this isn't possible for me. Is there any other way of checking the keyboard's state within the ENTER_FRAME event?

    Hi, I asked a question a few days ago (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2795723/access-to-sql-server-2005-from-a-non-domain-machine-using-windows-authentication) which got some interesting, but not usable suggestions. I'd like to ask the question again, but make clear what my constraints are: I have a Windows domain within which a machine is running SQL Server 2005 and which is configured to support only Windows authentication. I would like to run a C# client application on a machine on the same network, but which is NOT on the domain, and access a database on the SQL Server 2005 instance. I CANNOT create or modify OS or SQL Server users on either machine, and I CANNOT make any changes to permissions or impersonation, and I CANNOT make use of runas. I know that I can write Perl and Java applications that can connect to the SQL Server database using only these four parameters: server name, database name, username (in the form domain\user), and password. In C# I have tried various things around: string connectionString = "Data Source=server;Initial Catalog=database;User Id=domain\user;Password=password"; SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString); connection.Open(); and tried setting integrated security to true and false, but nothing seems to work.   • Error setting env thru subprocess.call to run a python script on a remote linux machine

    I am running a python script on a windows machine to invoke another python script on a remote linux machine. I am using subprocess.call with ssh to do this, like below: subprocess.call('ssh -i <identify file> username@hostname python <script_on_linux_machine>') and this works fine. However, if I want to set some environment variables, like below: subprocess.call('ssh -i <identify file> username@hostname python <script_on_linux_machine>', env={key1:value1}) it fails. I get the following error: ssh_connect: getnameinfo failed ssh: connect to host <hostname> port 22: Operation not permitted 255 I've tried splitting the ssh commands into list and passing. Didn't help. I've tried to run other 'local'(windows) commands thru subprocess.call() and tried setting the env. It works fine. I've tried to run other commands(such as ls) on the remote linux machine. Again, subprocess.call() works fine, as long as I don't try to set the environment. What am I doing wrong? Would I be able to set the environment for a python script on a remote machine? Any help will be appreciated.

  • JavaFX - question regarding binding button's disabled state

    I'm trying to create a dummy application that maintains a list of tasks. For now, all I'm trying to do is add to the list. I enter a task name in a text box, click on the add task button, and expect the list to be updated with the new item and the task name input to be cleared. I only want to be able to add tasks if the task name is not empty. The below code is my implementation, but I have a question regarding the binding. I'm binding the textbox's text variable to a string in my view model, and the button's disable variable to a boolean in my view model. I have a trigger to update the disabled state when the task name changes. When the binding of the task name happens the boolean is updated accordingly, but the button still appears disabled. But then when I mouse over the button, it becomes enabled. I believe this is due to JavaFX 1.3's binding being lazy - only updates the bound variable when it is read. Also, when I've added the task, I clear the task name in the model, but the textbox's text doesn't change - even though I'm using bind with inverse. Is there a way to make the textbox's text and the button's disabled state update automatically via the binding as I was expecting?   • What USB key would you recommend using for running a Windows 7 VM off of?

    Because I can't find a good PHP editor for OSX, I develop in Windows with PhpEd. At the moment, my development time is split between a desktop and a laptop. To partially solve the problem of having 2 different environments, I have installed a virtual machine (through Virtual Box) and put the hard drive file on an external hard drive. At the moment, I've been connecting it through Firewire 800. I have 2 problems with this setup: (1) The hard drive is fairly large so to carry the laptop and hard drive I pretty much require a backpack. (2) The hard drive requires quite a bit of power and therefore reduces the battery life (by about 40%). My thought is to move the VM hard drive onto a USB key. I realize it will be slower, but as I'm just using it for PHP development, there isn't a lot of disk activity in the VM. The only really intense time is boot up, otherwise, it just about sits idle. Do anyone have any suggestions on a USB key to use for the VM? It would need to a minimum of 32GB.

    Hi I have items in a table cell that gets toggled on and off. An external button accepts a click and submits the selected cell values via ajax. The problem is that I want to reset the toggle state for the selected cells. I can easily unset the highlighting, but then need a double click to trigger the correct toggle. Can the .toggle(odd, even) be reset or cycled via an external call? Thanks

    I have Windows 7 64bit Host system, and I am using VirtualBox 4.1.18 (r78361). I have an Arch Linux Guest OS. I have installed VirtualBox Extension Pack (to enable USB2 support) and added my USB device filter to VM. I have also installed the Guest Additions provided by Arch: virtualbox-archlinux-additions (but I have no idea whether it's actually needed for my environment). I can see my USB device from VirtualBox Devices menu. Whenever I am trying to access it, I end up with: Failed to attach the USB device Kingston DT 100 G2 [0100] to the virtual machine Archlinux. How do I resolve this? Update I have tried to Eject (virtually, not physically) the device from my Windows Host system and then try to access the Device from Guest. Same error.
