I have installed Nokogiri. • Can I use a MIME type declaration to get an HTML file to open in MS Word?

• Do Precompiled headers help with rebuilds?

  I read some of the questions about precompiled headers but couldn't find a direct answer to that. I usually rebuild my entire Visual Studio 2010 solution. One of the projects in my solution is a C++/CLI project. I thought that using precompiled headers in that project will increase the speed of the compilation. After some experiments, it seems that using precompiled headers only slows the rebuild process. Do precompiled headers only help with builds that didn't completely clean the old files?

• Need to center image in web page via CSS

  I'd like to center an image in a page both vertically and horizontally even when the browser is resized. Currently, I use this CSS: .centeredImage { position: fixed; top: 50%; left: 50%; margin-top: -50px; margin-left: -150px; } And this HTML: <img class="centeredImage" src="images/logo.png"> It centers in FF but not IE (image center is placed at upper left corner). Any ideas? -Robot

• Java apache poi setting the cell formula

  I am try to set a cell formulat that references cells from other workbooks. However, when I open the programmatically generated workbook, the formula cells show up as #REF!. I print out the formulas that were generated in a log. If I cut and paste those into the cells, the numbers from the external workbooks is pulled in. • A better way of converting Codepage-1251 in RTF to Unicode

  I am trying to parse RTF (via MSEDIT) in various languages, all in Delphi 2010, in order to produce HTML in unicode. Taking Russian/Cyrillic as my starting point I find that the overall document codepage is 1252 (Western) but the Russian parts of the text are identified by the charset of the font (RUSSIAN_CHARSET 204). So far I am: 1) Use AnsiString (or RawByteString) when parsing the RTF 2) Determine the CodePage by a lookup from the font charset (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc194829.aspx) 3) Translating using a lookup table in my code: (This table generated from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/goglobal/cc305144.aspx) - I'm going to need one table per supported codepage! There MUST be a better way than this? Preferably something supplied by the OS and so less brittle than tables of constants.

  Hey Guys, this one is a quick Question: What is the best (or THE) way to change my SQL Express 2008 (with advance...) installation to a 2008 Developer edition? I need to keep the databases, along with the logins and so on. I need to upgrade because, I Want to use all the features in TFS 2010. Do I have to make backups of all the data and uninstall express - install developer? Is there a quicker way? Thanks in advance SOLVED: In the SQL Server Installation Center, there a Edition Upgrade options found under Maintenance. The only thing is that you have to choose processor type as x86 (as Express is only x86) in the options in the Installation Center. Now my SQL Server is developer...

Steve then addressed the many applications for collaborative solutions in the area of Human Capital Management. So, in turning to a conversation about Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Sales Force Automation (SFA), let me ask you one simple question. How many sales people, particularly at business-to-business companies, consistently meet or beat their quotas in their roles by working alone, with no collaboration among fellow sales people, sales executives, employees in product groups, in service, in Legal, third-party partners, etc.? Hello? Is anybody out there? What’s that cricket noise I hear? That’s correct. Nobody! When it comes to Sales, introverts arguably have a distinct disadvantage. While it’s certainly a truism that “success” in most professional endeavors requires working with people, it’s a mandatory success factor in Sales. This fact became abundantly clear to me one early morning in the late 1990s when I joined the former Hyperion Solutions (now part of Oracle) and attended a Sales Award Ceremony. The Head of Sales at that time gave out dozens of awards – none of them to individuals and all of them to TEAMS of individuals. That’s how it works in Sales. Your colleagues help provide you with product intelligence and competitive intelligence. They help you build the best presentations, pitches, and proposals. They help you develop the most killer RFPs. They align you with the best product people to ensure you’re matching the best products for the opportunity and join you in critical meetings. They help knock the socks of your prospects in “bake off” demo’s. They bring in the best partners to either add complementary products to your opportunity or help you implement a solution. They work with you as a collective team. And so how is all this collaboration STILL typically done today? Through email. And yet we all silently or not so silently grimace about email. It’s relatively siloed. It’s painful to search. It’s difficult to align by topic. And it’s nearly impossible to re-trace meaningful and helpful conversations that occurred among a group or a team at some point in history. This is where social networking for Sales comes into play. It’s about PURPOSEFUL social networking versus chattering. What is purposeful social networking? It’s collaboration that’s built around opportunities, accounts, and contacts. It’s collaboration that delivers valuable context – on the target company, and on key competitors – just to name two examples. It’s collaboration that can scale to provide coaching for larger numbers of sales representatives, both for general purposes, and as we’ve largely discussed here, for specific ‘deals.’ And it’s collaboration that allows a team of people to collectively edit and iterate on a document like an RFP or a soon-to-be killer presentation that is maintained in a central repository, with no time wasted searching for it or worrying about version control. But lest we get carried away, let’s remember that collaboration “happens” among sales people whether there is specialized software to support it or not. The human practice of sales has not changed much in the last 80 to 90 years. Collaboration has been a mainstay during this entire time. But what social networking in general, and Oracle Social Networking in particular delivers, is the opportunity for sales teams to dramatically increase their effectiveness and efficiency – to identify and close more high quality and lucrative opportunities more quickly. • LINQPad - Dump extension method - I want one!

  Hi, LINQPad is amazing, particularly useful is the Dump() extension methods which renders objects and structs of almost any type, anonymous or not, to the console. Initially, when I moved to Visual Studio 2010, I tried to make my own Dump method using a delegate to get the values to render for anonymous types etc. It's getting pretty complicated though and whilst it was fun and educational at first what I need is a solid implementation. Having checked out the LinqPad code in reflector I am even more assured that I'm not going to get the implementation right. Is there a free library I can include to provide the Dump functionality? Nothing else changed. Then run this app from vs2010 built-in web server, it is fine, I can see the login user info from windws(from a AD domain account) display on the top-right of the screen, like DomainName\userName. I have read about MapReduce and feel like this would be a good problem to solve using it, but I cannot figure out what to do.   If I have the following master-detail relationship: owner_tbl auto_tbl --------- -------- owner --- owner auto year And I have the following table data: owner_tbl auto_tbl --------- -------- john john, corvette, 1968 john, prius, 2008 james james, f-150, 2004 james, cadillac, 2002 james, accord, 2009 jeff jeff, tesla, 2010 jeff, hyundai, 1996 Now, I want to perform a query that returns the following result: john, corvette, 1968 jeff, hyundai, 1996 james, cadillac, 2002 The query should join the two tables, and sort all the records on the "year" field, but only return the first detail record for each master record. I know how to join the tables and sort on the "year" field, but it's not clear how (or if) I might be able to only retrieve the first joined record for each owner. Three related questions: Can I perform this kind of query using LINQ-to-SQL? Can I perform the query using T-SQL? Would it be best to just create a stored procedure for the query given its likely complexity?

• Problem with ScatterView - Components behind disabled

  Hi everybody. I'm working currently on a simple project which consist of a ScatterView with a lot of items and then a Navigation (Implemented as many buttons). The problem is that i will like to have the ScatterView on top of everything, so that users can interact on the whole window as they want. I tried different things: If I put the navigation on top of the ScatterView then as soon as someone draggs something into the navigation, then after releasing the item, it will fall down behind the navigation, and you are not able to pick it anymore. If I put the navigation behind the ScatterView, then I cannot click the navigation since the scatterView consumes all events. Do you have any idea how to solve this problem? Thanks

• Convert Microsoft Visio Drawing (vsd) to PDF automatically

  An open-source project I am working on uses Visio drawings for documentation, which are checked into source control. For those working on the project who don't own Visio, we have been converting the vsd files to PDFs so that they can still view them. It's not too difficult to save a copy as a PDF when making changes to the documentation, but we would like an automated way to do this conversion, so that we can set it up as a pre-checkin script in the SVN client. If anybody knows of a way to do this, either using something built-in to Visio, or with an outside script or command line tool, we would appreciate it. Edit: Thanks to the suggestion below, I have found the Visio Viewer 2010. This will be helpful for our contributors using Windows. We would still like to have the ability to create PDFs though, as there are readers available on every major operating system, and our contributors will not be using only Windows.

• Ubuntu server has slow performance

  I have a custom built Ubuntu 11.04 server with a 6 disk software RAID 10 primary drive. On it I'm primarily running a PostgreSQL and a few other utilities that stream data from the web. I often find after a few hours of uptime the server starts to lag with all kinds of processes. For example, it may take 10-15 seconds after log-in to get a shell prompt. It might take 5-10 seconds for top to come up. An ls might take a second or two. When I look at top there is almost no CPU usage. There's a fair amount of memory used by the PostgreSQL server but not enough to bleed into swap. I have no idea where to go from here, other than to suspect the RAID10 (I've only ever had software RAID 1's before). • What is the simplest way to implement multithredding in c# to existing code

  I have already implemented a functionnal application that parses 26 pages of html all at once to produce an xml file with data contained on the web pages. I would need to implement a thread so that this method can work in the background without causing my app to seems unresponsive. Secondly, I have another function that is decoupled from the first one which compares two xml files to produce a third one and then transform this third xml file to produce an html page using XSLT. This would have to be on a thread, where I can click Cancel to stop the thread whithout crashing the app. What is the easiest best way to do this using WPF forms in VS 2010 ? Note: I cannot use the BackgroundWorker component as it is grayed out in the toolbox.

• Custom Glassfish Security Realm does not work (unable to find LoginModule)

  I'm trying to get a Custom Security Realm in Glassfish working (i tried 3.0.1 final and 3.1 B33). I read nearly all tutorials about this, but it doesn not work on my System. I'm getting the error Login failed: javax.security.auth.login.LoginException: unable to find LoginModule class: de.company.security.utility.CustomLoginModule when trying to login. Here is what i did: I created a little Maven project, which contains the needed Realm class, CustomRealm, and the corresponding LoginModule, CustomLoginModule. For login, i build a really simple JSF-project, which calls the HttpServletRequest-login-method of Servlet 3.0.
