InchargeId is set as foreign key for all the above fields in the property table.. How to write a select statement that joins both the table.. • java.io.IOException: Invalid argument

  Hi I have a web application running in cluster mode with a load balancer. It consists in two tomcats (T1, and T2) addressing only one DB. T2 is nfs mounted to T1. This is the only dofference between both nodes. I have a java method generating some files. If the request runs on T1 there is no problem but if the request is running on node 2 I get an exception as follows: java.io.IOException: Invalid argument at java.io.FileOutputStream.close0(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.close(FileOutputStream.java:279) The corresponding code is as follows: for (int i = 0; i < dataFileList.size(); i++) { outputFileName = outputFolder + fileNameList.get(i); FileOutputStream fileOut = new FileOutputStream(outputFileName); fileOut.write(dataFileList.get(i), 0, dataFileList.get(i).length); fileOut.flush(); fileOut.close(); } The exception appears at the fileOut.close() Any hint? • Is it possible to change a exe's icon without recompiling it?

  Hi all, I have lot of executable that I have compiled (long time back) for many of which I don't have sourcecode now. But when I compiled them I didn't put any icons for them, so they all look like same dull, bald default icon. So my questions are, (1) is it possible for me to write a software that can change the resources section of the exe and change its looks? If so, can anyone plz point me to the location where its explained? (I am a beginner, I have no idea on the exe format and all) Also its fun to keep changing Icons without having the pain of recompiling everything just for the icon change... (2) This is raises a natural converse question, Is it similarly possible to zap out the icon used by some file and use it for some other file? • What's wrong with my logic here?

  In java they say don't concatenate Strings, instead you should make a stringbuffer and keep adding to that and then when you're all done, use toString() to get a String object out of it. Here's what I don't get. They say do this for performance reasons, because concatenating strings makes lots of temporary objects. But if the goal was performance, then you'd use a language like C/C++ or assembly. The argument for using java is that it is a lot cheaper to buy a faster processor than it is to pay a senior programmer to write fast efficient code. So on the one hand, you're supposed let the hardware take care of the inefficiencies, but on the other hand, you're supposed to use stringbuffers to make java more efficient. While I see that you can do both, use java and stringbuffers, my question is where is the flaw in the logic that you either use a faster chip or you spent extra time writing more efficient software.

I'd like that such a library: Identifies a note when I sing(a note from the chromatic scale). Tells me how much I'm off from the closest note. I intend to use such a library to sing one note a time.

  Hi I'm trying to write an NHibernate HQL query that makes use of parenthesis in the where clause. However, the HQL parser seems to be ignoring my parenthesis, thus changing the meaning of my statement. Can anyone shed any light on the matter? • Simple File-based Record Storage with Fast Text Searching for Compact Framework and Silverlight

  I have a single table with lots of records ( 100k) that I need to be able to index and search on several text fields. The easiest searches will have the first part of the string specified (eg, LIKE 'ABC%' in SQL). The tougher searches will need to search for any substring within the text fields (eg, LIKE '%ABC%' in SQL). I need to run on the Compact Framework. SQL Compact is a memory hog and overkill for my one table. Besides, I'd like to be able to run on Silverlight 4 eventually. The file and indexes can be generated on the full .NET Framework and I only need read capability on the Compact Framework. My records are not especially large and can be expressed in fix length format. I'm looking for some existing code or libraries to avoid having to write a file-based BTree implementation from scratch.

• How to grab data from webpage in Chrome and output into Chrome extension popup?

  For a Google Chrome extension, none of the Javascript I write to manipulate the DOM of the extension popup.html seems to have any effect on the popup's DOM. • Licensing your code in Mono

  I'm working with some code in Visual Studio. My parter-in-crime fellow developer has suggested that the code also be available to work under Mono. I'm impresed witht he work that is already done in Mono, but I'm very new to Mono, so I don't know what it can/cannot do. I've already written a class in C# using the .NET LicenseManager object. It writes to the windows registry, so I know I'll have to modify it so that it will use some compiler flags like #if Win32 or #if MONO. My question is two-fold: 1) Does Mono implement the same LicenseManager class structure? 2) If so, how do you guys lock down your code using LicenseManager in Linux? (i.e. Write to files, use a hardware dongle, compare to hardware serials, etc??)

• Alert on moving to a different page of a grid when user changes contents of textboxes in a Grid

  In a ASP.NET application I have a paging RadGrid which shows up textbox in each row. Outside the grid, there is an OK button to save the content of all the textbox. If user changes text in any one or more of the textbox and without clicking on the "OK" button, tries to move to a different page number (of the grid by clicking on the page number), he should be prompted for confirmation of save or cancel the changes. I am guessing that one can write a Javascript function which would look for any form input control (textbox in my case) and detect changes and If there are changes, would prompt the user. However, I am not sure where I can call this function from? Any suggestion on this or a better way to achieve this would be appreciated. I am using RadGrid but I guess this should be applicable to GridView as well.

Ex: "applications/modules/v1/controllers", "applications/modules/v2/controllers" have different set of actions and functionality. I have made "v1" as the default module in "application.ini" file: resources.modules = "" resources.frontController.defaultModule = "v1" resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" resources.frontController.moduleControllerDirectoryName = "controllers" I have written the following in my bootstrap file: $router = $front->getRouter(); $r1 = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route_Regex('api/v1/tags.xml', array('module' => 'v1', 'controller' => 'tags', 'action' => 'index')); $router->addRoute('route1', $r1); Suppose, if this is my url: http://localhost/api/v1/tags.xml then it belongs to version 1 (v1). But i dont want to write many routes like this one, so i want to know how can i track the version from the regex url and dynamically determine the api version to be used (1 or 2).

• How doe we name test methods where we are checking for more than one condition?

  I follow the technique specified in Roy Osherove's The Art Of Unit Testing book while naming test methods - MethodName_Scenario_Expectation. It suits perfectly well for my 'unit' tests. But,for tests that I write in 'controller' or 'coordinator' class, there isn't necessarily a method which I want to test. For these tests, I generate multiple conditions which make up one scenario and then I verify the expectation. For example, I may set some properties on different instances, generate an event and then verify that my expectations from controller/coordinator is being met. Now, my controller handles events using a private event handler. Here my scenario is that, I set some properties, say 3 condition1,condition2 and condition3 Also, my scenario includes an event is raised I don't have a method name as my event handler is private. How do I name such a test method?

  I need to write a plugin for Dynamics CRM 4.0 that executes when a closed opportunity is reopened in order to change the salesstagecode. My questions are: When I register a new step to the plugin, what attribute(s) should I filter on? What property on the entity should I check the value of? and What should I look for the value of this entity to be so I can determine if the plugin execution should continue? I've typically written asynchronous workflows and my experience writing plugins is still developing, so I'd appreciate any help and clarification that can be offered. • Is Using Python to MapReduce for Cassandra Dumb?

  Since Cassandra doesn't have MapReduce built in yet (I think it's coming in 0.7), is it dumb to try and MapReduce with my Python client or should I just use CouchDB or Mongo or something? The application is stats collection, so I need to be able to sum values with grouping to increment counters. I'm not, but pretend I'm making Google analytics so I want to keep track of which browsers appear, which pages they went to, and visits vs. pageviews. I would just atomically update my counters on write, but Cassandra isn't very good at counters either. May Cassandra just isn't the right choice for this? Thanks!

  Hi, i'm using ASP.NET + a MySql Db. I'm trying to configure a ListView so i've written: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="dsDatiUtente" runat="server" ConnectionString="Server=12.28.136.29;Database=mydb;Uid=m111d1;Pwd=fake;Pooling=false;" ProviderName="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM user WHERE idUser=@IdUser" / At the beginning of my aspx page i've added <%@ Import Namespace="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" %> But if i click to the sqldatasource and click "Refresh Schema" i got this error: "Unable to retrive schema.... Unable to find the requested .Net Framework data provider" For instance, i've installed it , but i've also uninstalled old version, then installed new versions. In my project i simple copy Mysql dll into "bin" folder, then add a reference to that dll. I'm not sure is the corrected way... I need to have the "refreshed schema" to permit vs.net to build automatically my listview ... if i can't to "auto build" listview, i have to write all code by hand, and it is a too expensive work me :( What i'm wrong ? • Parse and display MIME multipart email on website

  I have a raw email, (MIME multipart), and I want to display this on a website (e.g. in an iframe, with tabs for the HTML part and the plain text part, etc.). Are there any CPAN modules or Template::Toolkit plugins that I can use to help me achieve this? At the moment, it's looking like I'll have to parse the message with Email::MIME, then iterate over all the parts, and write a handler for all the different mime types. It's a long shot, but I'm wondering if anyone has done all this already? It's going to be a long and error prone process writing handlers if I attempt it myself. Thanks for any help.

• Fast, lightweight XML parser

  I have a specific format XML document that I will get pushed. This document will always be the same type so it's very strict. I need to parse this so that I can convert it into JSON (well, a slightly bastardized version so someone else can use it with DOJO). My question is, shall I use a very fast lightweight (no need for SAX, etc.) XML parser (any ideas?) or write my own, basically converting into a StringBuffer and spinning through the array? Basically, under the covers I assume all HTML parsers will spin thru the string (or memory buffer) and parse, producing output on the way through. • MySQL: updating a row and deleting the original in case it becomes a duplicate

  I have a simple table made up of two columns: col_A and col_B. The primary key is defined over both. I need to update some rows and assign to col_A values that may generate duplicates, for example: UPDATE `table` SET `col_A` = 66 WHERE `col_B` = 70 This statement sometimes yields a duplicate key error. I don't want to simply ignore the error with UPDATE IGNORE, because then the rows that generate the error would remain unchanged. Instead, I want them to be deleted when they would conflict with another row after they have been updated I'd like to write something like: UPDATE `table` SET `col_A` = 66 WHERE `col_B` = 70 ON DUPLICATE KEY REPLACE which unfortunately isn't legal in SQL, so I need help finding another way around. Also, I'm using PHP and could consider a hybrid solution (i.e. part query part php code), but keep in mind that I have to perform this updating operation many millions of times. thanks for your attention, Silvio Reminder: UPDATE's syntax has problems with joins with the same table that is being updated

• source control when starting up a new project

  when starting with a project and using source control i find it hard to separate the things people are working on so they don't either write duplicate code or think it should be named one thing and so on. this problem diminishes over time because the general foundation is in place and it's easier to separate the tasks so they don't overlap as much how do you manage working with source control in the beginning phase? EDIT: I can see that it don't really have anything to do with source control, but it gets more apparent when you have source control too. so the question becomes more along the lines of "how do you manage to separate the tasks so they don't overlap too much. I think it's really hard and i haven't really seen much about how to do it.
