  Once again, I find myself back in Seoul – ASEM Tower, 16th Floor in a mobile room. I’m busy preparing for the interview process that is about to take place for Oracle Korea’s GIP 7th (Graduate Intake Program): scheduling the first round interviews, organizing interview guidelines, educating interviewers on the process and framework and  getting all the logistics ready for the 1st round interview. Seoul or Korea rather is a fascinating place. Highly efficient, the utmost respect for seniors and results orientated. When students come in for an interview at first it was hard to tell them apart – there seems to be accepted interview attire that must be worn when attending an interview. Males and Females, all dress in black suits, with white shirts underneath – with males to wear simple and dark colored ties. During the interview, they would all sit very upright, all would bow when entering the room, place their hands on the laps and very often they would hold minimal eye contact. They would project their voice loud to portray confidence, they would talk in the Korean formal dialect at all times and will treat every question, every moment with extreme clarity and the utmost professionalism. When the interview concludes, they will all stand hands by their sides, bow 90 degrees and thank all the interviewers for their precious time and opportunity. As soon as they leave the interview room, I could hear all their sighs of relief and commended each other on their efforts. More and more I learn about the Korean culture it inspires me. Their patriotism, their respect for each, their values, their appreciation, their motivation, their desires and passion – it truly was an experience for me (even as a recruiter) and can’t help but feel truly impressed and motivated to live for every moment. • What is a currently a good game stack for simple Javascript 2D multiplatform game?

  I'm looking for advice from someone can help me avoid common pitfalls in developing light weight, quick-to-market games. Yeah, I've heard of Google ;-), but a trip down Google lane does not beat solid experience from someone who has been down this path. I'm looking for advice from someone who works alone, or in a small team, and has developed some 2D games for mobile. My game ideas don't require intensive graphics, just simple arcade style glyphs and collision detection. My experience is mostly with Scala, Java and web technologies (Javascript, CSS, SVG, HTML, etc). My question is: Is there a nice stack that someone can suggest that will be a good fit for my skillset? I'm considering Javascript for simple 2D shooter games with simple multiplayer games being supported with a Scala server-side written on Spray. Is this silly? Should I rather look into things such as Unity 3D, and use it in 2D mode? For the actual game engine, something like the Sparrow Framework would be great, but it needs to be multiplatform.

• Use Network-Manager to Connect to a wifi Access Point on the command-line

  I'd like to connect to a wireless access point from the command-line. ideally, I'd only need the name of the AP. But the hardware-address would work as well. I know I can use nmcli to connect to a managed network connection, but in my case, the access point may not be configured for Network-Manager yet (See the difference between the output of nm-tool and nmcli con).   Nokia’s alliance with Microsoft is likely to be good news for anyone using Microsoft technologies, and particularly for .NET developers. Before the announcement, the future wasn’t looking so bright for the ‘mobile’ version of Windows, Windows Phone. Microsoft currently has only 3.1% of the Smartphone market, even though it has been involved in it for longer than its main rivals. Windows Phone has now got the basics right, but that is hardly sufficient by itself to change its predicament significantly. With Nokia's help, it is possible. Despite the promise of multi-tasking for third party apps, integration with Microsoft platforms such as Xbox and Office, direct integration of Twitter support, and the introduction of IE 9 “later this year”, there have been frustratingly few signs of urgency on Microsoft’s part in improving the Windows Phone  product. Until this happens, there seems little prospect of reward for third-party developers brave enough to support the platform with applications. This is puzzling when one sees how well SQL Server and Microsoft’s other server technologies have thrived in recent years, under good leadership from a management that understands the technology. The same just hasn’t been true for some of the consumer products. In consequence, iPads and Android tablets have already exposed diehard Windows users, for the first time, to an alternative GUI for consumer Tablet PCs, and the comparisons aren’t always in Windows’ favour. Nokia’s problem is obvious: Android’s meteoric rise. Android now has 33% of the worldwide market for smartphones, while the market share of Nokia’s Symbian has dropped from 44% to 31%. As details of the agreement emerge, it would seem that Nokia will bring a great deal of expertise, such as imaging and Nokia Maps, to Windows Phone that should make it more competitive. It is wrong to assume that Nokia’s decline will continue: the shock of Android’s sudden rise could be enough to sting them back to their previous form, and they have Microsoft’s huge resources and marketing clout to help them. For the sake of the whole Windows stack, I really hope the alliance succeeds.

• What is the best way to restrict access to adult content on Ubuntu?

  I bought my kids a PC and installed 12.04 (Unity) on it. The bottom line is, I want my children to use the computer unsupervised while I have confidence they cannot access anything inappropriate. What I have looked at: I was looking at Scrubit a tool which allows me configure my wifi router to block content and this solution would also protect my other PC and mobile devices. This may be overkill as I just want the solution to work on one PC. I also did some Google searches and came across the application called Nanny (it seems to look the part). My experience of OSS is that the best solutions frequently never appear first on a Google search list and in this case I need to trust the methods therefore my question is very specific. I want to leverage your knowledge and experience to understand “What is the best way to restrict adult content on 12.04 LTS” as this is important to me. It maybe a combination of things so please don't answer this question "try this or that", then give me some PPA unless you can share your experience of how good it is and of course if there are any contraints.   Hello everyone. I started to feel a little bit confused recently about my career path as software developer, about what I do, what I know and do I need it. I am 21 years now and I have 3 years of experience. I've been dealing with java/C++ projects, Servlet/JSP/JSF, desktop QT, also some mobile development (Symbian, Android) I work for a quite a small company, around 20 developers with different projects. I'm also a student. The problem is that I'm not sure if I'm taking the right road here. I'm starting to work with new technology every few months. I don't have deep understanding in any of these and I'm not sure if this is what I need. I will probably not become an expert in any of these. The other path is maybe to start working for a big company which use one set of technologies and become an expert. What's your opinion on this topic ? What is more valuable ?

• Seeking an C/C++ OBJ geometry read/write that does not modify the representation

  I am seeking a means to read and write OBJ geometry files with logic that does not modify the geometry representation. i.e. read geometry, immediately write it, and a diff of the source OBJ and the one just written will be identical. Every OBJ writing utility I've been able to find online fails this test. I am writing small command line tools to modify my OBJ geometries, and I need to write my results, not just read the geometry for rendering purposes. Simply needing to write the geometry knocks out 95% of the OBJ libraries on the web. Also, many of the popular libraries modify the geometry representation. For example, Nat Robbin's GLUT library includes the GLM library, which both converts quads to triangles, as well as reverses the topology (face ordering) of the geometry. It's still the same geometry, but if your tool chain expects a given topology, such as for rigging or morph targets, then GLM is useless. I'm not rendering in these tools, so dependencies like OpenGL or GLUT make no sense. And god forbid, do not "optimize" the geometry! Redundant vertices are on purpose for maintaining oneself on cache with our weird little low memory mobile devices.

• usb wifi dongle on ubuntu server, cannot install realtek driver RTL 8188cus

  I got cheap Ebay wifi dongle from HongKong, Im trying to set it up on my ubuntu server. Occasionally need to move server, so it cannot always be connected to router via lan. Anyhow, usb wifi came with a driver cd. • Screen flickering when using midrange brightness values on Dell XPS

  After a fresh Ubuntu install on my laptop, I discovered the function keys for screen brightness control (Fn+F4 and Fn+F5) are not working. Digging around here, I managed to get it to work by following the solution suggested on this post and that one, but alas — after applying it, a strange problem occurred: Setting the brightness level to any value other than minimum or maximum, the screen starts flickering back and forth from the selected level to full brightness, apparently due to Dell's power saver attempting to dim the screen to adjust the brightness levels. I looked up for a solution here on the site, and possibly everywhere, with no avail. Also tried: To manually control the brightness by configuring the ACPI level (setting values by echo [some_value] | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/[vendor]_backlight/[some_key], without success. Installing the Intel graphics driver, thinking it's missing. Realized it's installed out of the box by installing Mesa Utils. How to resolve this? • Ubuntu 11.04 does not detect my tata photon +

  I am trying to connect to the Internet via my photon+ from the past day and have tried various suggestions on the Internet and have tried to zero in to the main cause of the problem which is that my device is not detected. I have tried the following ways: 1) After connecting the device, I tried to create a mobile broadband connection via System Preferences Network Connections and selected tata photon plus.
