    Oracle has just released Security Alert CVE-2012-4681 to address 3 distinct but related vulnerabilities and one security-in-depth issue affecting Java running in desktop browsers.  These vulnerabilities are: CVE-2012-4681, CVE-2012-1682, CVE-2012-3136, and CVE-2012-0547.  These vulnerabilities are not applicable to standalone Java desktop applications or Java running on servers, i.e. these vulnerabilities do not affect any Oracle server based software.   • RadGrid Column Sizing

    I came across this column sizing weirdness the other day. Using a RadGrid the headers looked great. The rows with the data however sized however they felt like it, usually way too small. After looking around I came across this that solved my problem. Adding the meta tag of <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> in the head section of my aspx page was what I needed. My issue was pretty specific since I had to target IE8 for the app I was working on but it may apply to other scenarios as well. Tags: ASP.Net

  • Are these 2 strings equal?

    I spent way too many hours on this one. I was going through full configuration of ADFS v2 with WCF active client scenarios and using self generated certificates, had all things lined up perfectly.  Using the certificate snap in I just copied the thumbprint into the IdentityModel section (trusted issuers) in my service config.  var one = "?ecb8fd950978d94ae21d4f073227fdc2718bdb96"; var two = "ecb8fd950978d94ae21d4f073227fdc2718bdb96"; What ended up is in the first, there’s a buried nonprintable series of characters (‎ – or E2 80 8E in 0x format). 2 lessons, turn on tracing sooner and don’t trust Copy & Paste – all the time.  I ended up creating a quick Issuer Name Registry class so I could debug and finally saw the issue. namespace MyService { public class IssuerValidator : ConfigurationBasedIssuerNameRegistry { public IssuerValidator() :base() { } public IssuerValidator(XmlNodeList xml) : base(xml) { } public override string GetIssuerName(System.IdentityModel.Tokens.SecurityToken securityToken) { X509SecurityToken token = securityToken as X509SecurityToken; if (token == null) { return "who cares"; } else { return token.Certificate.Thumbprint; } } } I do have a utility I wrote to navigate the cert store and emit the thumbprint to avoid these issues, I just didn’t have it available on my machine at the time.

  • Why can't I get 100% code coverage on a method that calls a constructor of a generic type?

    Today I came across a wierd issue in a Visual Studio 2008 Code Coverage Analysis. Consider the following method:  private IController GetController<T>(IContext context) where T : IController, new() {     IController controller = new T();     controller.ListeningContext = context;     controller.Plugin = this;     return controller; } This method is called in a unit test as follows (MenuController has an empty constructor): controller = plugin.GetController<MenuController>(null);  After calling this method from a Unit Test, the following code coverage report is generated: As you can see, Code Coverage is only 85%. Looking up the code results in the following: Apparently, the call to the constructor of the generic type is considered only partly covered. WHY? Google didn't help. And MSDN didn't help at all, of course. Anybody who does know?

  • Listing SQL Columns

    When I am writing up stored procedures in SSMS sometimes I need to know what column types are used in a table. For instance I will know the table name but I might not remember exactly the length of a varchar column or if a column stored the data as an integer or varchar. And I may not want to scroll through all the tables in Object Explorer to find the one I want. A lot of times it is easier if I can just write a quick query to pull up the information I need. The syntax to do something like this is pretty easy. SELECT COLUMN_NAME, DATA_TYPE, CHARACTER_MAXIMUM_LENGTH FROM yourdbname.information_schema.columns WHERE TABLE_NAME = ‘yourtablename’ After running that you will get a listing in the Results pane just like any other query with the column name, data type and length (if any).   • SharePoint 2010 slow page response time suddenly !

    Hello, One of my customers faced a problem that suddenly their SharePoint portal was loading extremely slower than usual. After some basic troubleshooting I did not find anything suspicious in the ULS logs, IIS logs or even Event logs. After that, I came to the part that I like most which is capturing a memory dump for the IIS process and analyzing the threads running. I searched for any common mistakes like looping a large list, calling a remote web service but couldn't find any. After a deep analysis of the memory dump (Which was done by an Escalation Engineer for SharePoint), it seems that the farm root certificate was missing and therefore was trying to validate it from the internet every time the user requests to load the page and this was the resolution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2625048 Cheers,
