• Searching a large list of words in another large list

  I have a list of 1,000,000 strings with a maximum length of 256 with protein names. Every string has an associated ID. I have another list of 4,000,000,000 strings with a maximum length of 256 with words out of articles and every word has an ID. I want to find all matches between the list of protein names and the list of words of the articles. Which algorithm should I use? Should I use some prebuild API? It would be good if the algorithm runs on a normal PC without special hardware.

• HTTPHeaders Added to Downloaded File - CocoaHTTPServer???

  In an iPhone app where I use cocoahttpserver and take a sqlite database file from the iPhone and download it with a browser to my PC, when I look at the downloaded file using TextEdit, I see the text (below) at the end of the file. This text has apparently no effect on use of the database file, but I would prefer to not add stuff to the database file at all. Any ideas where this header info is coming from in cocoahttpserver and how to stop it? • Too many connections to 212.192.255.240

  Recently, my Internet slowed down drastically. I downloaded a tool to see the TCP/IP connections from my Vista computer. I found out that a lot TCP/IP connections are being connected to 212.192.255.240 through SVCHost. It seems that it is trying to connect to different ports. I think that my computer is being infected with some kind of malware etc. But I am not sure how to get rid of it. I did a little bit of research on this IP but found nothing. Any suggestions are highly appreciated. UPDATE: This is the HiJackThis log file and I can't find any thing weird. Also, the program is also trying to create connections to 91.205.127.63, which is also from Russia. • How to debug a native Java crash on Linux?

  I've seen this question and this article on how to debug a native Java crash. The article is with respect to Windows. What are the equivalent debugging aids on Linux? Note: All I have is this crash log from a user in the field. I do not have access to the machine on which the crash occurred. Update: I am pretty sure the crash is due to JNI code we have. • ASP.NET What's the best way to produce a trial version for customers to download?

  Hi all, I've written a ASP.NET app that I hope to sell to businesses, I could host the trial but it's designed to connect to the customers data so customers will certainly want to install it to do a successful evaluation. I've never produced anything commercial before so I'm looking for advice on how best to limit the trial, a 30 day trial seems most common, do you simply rely on the clock of the PC/Server they install it on? • How to render Asian characters in a PDF using xhtmlrenderer

  I was wondering what steps were needed to render Asian characters using the java based xhtmlrenderer (flying saucer) library? I am wanting to render the following: <html> <body>????????</body> </html> Without any font settings being added to the HTML this renders fine in normal browsers, but I can't find anyway to render this to PDF using the iTextRenderer portion of xhtmlrenderer. After following various threads on the mailing list, I see lots of posts talking about adding .TTF files from the c:\windows\fonts directory, and I have modified the examples to run on linux ( https://gist.github.com/643173745182c9becc57 ), which shows me various fonts being displayed, but I don't see any Asian glyffs. Does anyone have any decent pointers, or clean solutions to this problem? Or am I looking at the wrong problem with a really simple solution elsewhere?

That is if I am using the settings for defaultProxy for my Winforms v3.5 application, and set a proxy server address here, exactly where does/can the username/password come from? Or in other words where does the framework source the "default credentials" for a winforms application running on the client PC? <defaultProxy enabled="true|false" useDefaultCredentials="true|false" <bypasslist> … </bypasslist> <proxy> … </proxy> <module> … </module> /> Background - apparently ClickOnce can use this for a client side application, however I'm trying to work out where click once would get this defaultCredential from, for a user who is running the clickonce install for my winforms application.

• iPhone SDK: How to centre content in a UIScrollView during setZoomScale?

  I'm using a UIScrollView to show photos. If they are zoomed out so they are smaller than the scroll view in one dimension then the content is centred using contentInset and contentOffset. This all works fine for scrolling and manual zooming. However, if I use setZoomScale (with animated YES) then when zooming out the scroll view sets the top left edge to 0,0 during the animation and then snaps it back afterwards. It seems like the zoom animation ignores the contentInset and contentOffset settings. Does anyone have any idea how to overcome this problem? Thanks, Russell.

• C# Pragma to suppress break on thrown error

  First off I run my applications with exceptions thrown on any error (handled or not). Second I am using a TypeConverter to convert from a user input string to the actual object.   I'd like to use the source code of maven-managed dependencies when debugging our webapp in eclipse. I have managed to attach the sources to the libraries in the "Maven Managed Depedencies" classpath container, i.e. when I open a class file from a depedency (e.g. using Ctrl-Shift-T), I see the source code. However, when I launch the tomcat within eclipse, and execution halts on a breakpoint in that same class, the editor pane only displays the text "source not found", and a button to edit the "source lookup path". I have attempted to manually add the "Maven Managed Dependencies" classpath container, only to be told "Use maven project settings to configure depedency resolution". However, I see no useful setting in that property pane ... How can I attach those sources?

  Extremely basic question. Are there common actions I can perform using keyboard shortcuts in the Windows Forms designer in Visual Studio (2008)? Alternately, could I add my own keyboard shortcuts (either through settings or macros)? It'd really be nice if I could, for example, set a control to dock/undock in its parent container by typing Alt+D. Or if I could set a control's name just by typing Alt+N and typing the name. Things like that. It's just kind of tedious to click on the item, scroll in the Properties grid to the property I want to change, type the new value, scroll to the next property I want to change, etc. Which is why I have a feeling this functionality is in there already, or is easily configurable, and I just don't know about it.

• Android: Ringer mode changed to silent doesn't stop the phone vibrating

  I'm trying to change the ringer mode of the phone to RINGER_MODE_SILENT when a call is incoming by using the following lines of code. AudioManager am = (AudioManager) this.getSystemService(Context.AUDIO_SERVICE); am.setRingerMode(AudioManager.RINGER_MODE_SILENT); While the phone stops ringing it continue to vibrate although the documentation of RINGER_MODE_SILENT says it should also stop vibrating. I'm using the SDK 1.6 UPDATE: As I didn't find a solution yet, I tried to deactivate the vibration settings manually. am.setVibrateSetting(AudioManager.VIBRATE_TYPE_RINGER, AudioManager.VIBRATE_SETTING_ONLY_SILENT ); But this also doesn't prevent the phone form vibrating when a call is incoming. Any ideas?

• No Microphone error on iPod Touch

  I've build an iPhone app that should work on an iPod Touch as well, but I'm getting reports that the app is not working on iPod touches. It's displaying an error message saying there's no mic available on the device. The thing is, the app does nothing whatsoever with audio, and I can't find anything related in the project settings. The other problem is I don't have an iPod Touch available to test this myself. Are some people running an old firmware version? Am I compiling the wrong firmware version? To my surprise I couldn't find anything about this on SO or Google… Any help is appreciated

• Django-pyodbc SQL Server/freetds server connection problems on linux

  Error: ('IM002', '[IM002] [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified (0) (SQLDriverConnectW)') I'm migrating from developing on a windows development machine to Linux machine in production and I'm having issues with the freetds driver. As far as I can tell that error message means it can't find the driver. I can connect via the cli via sqsh and tsql. I've setup my settings.py as such. • Is there anything RAD comparable to VCL?

  After years in embedded programming, I have to develop a Windows app. I dug out my old C++ Builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP from Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBeans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, BUT does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

• Java Web Service - Faulty Services - ClassNotFound Exception

  My Project has 2 java files (A.java and B.java in same package). A.java uses methods in B.java. And, an external jar has been added in the project build path. In order to create a web service (bottom up) from the class, I created a new Dynamic Web Project in Eclipse with axis2 as the runtime platform, and imported A.java and B.java source files. Next, since all my methods that need to be exposed are contained in A.java, I right click on it and created web service using the standard settings. When I deploy the web service on my apache, I get "Fault Service" and a few ClassNotFound Exceptions for some of the classes in my external jar file (I have already imported it as an external jar). Does the external jar needs to be imported in another way?
