  • If innerHTML is evil, then what's a better way change the text of a link?

    I know innerHTML is supposedly evil, but I think it's the simplest way to change link text. For example: <a id="mylink" href="">click me</a> In JS you can change the text with: document.getElementById("mylink").innerHTML = new_text; And in Prototype/jQuery: $("mylink").innerHTML = new_text; works fine. Otherwise you have to replace all of the child nodes first and then add a text node. Why bother?

  • Internet Explore works very slowly executing JS code

    There is a page that uses PHP to fetch search results from Google Search API and then it puts the results on the page some funny way in a circle. Code and may look crappy but seems that it works more or less fine in Firefox. When you enter a search query and click submit button or Next/Previous links, it fills the wheel with results. The problem is its work in IE. It works there very slowly and then it doesn't clear the wheel before filling in new data, but puts it over that. My friend asked me to help him with this code. Please give me a piece of advice how I can fix it. Thanks so much!

  • Jquery Slider PNG black borders IE8

    Greetings, I'm having a lot of trouble with the IE8 buy of getting black borders when using a JQUERY slider, with PNG transparent images. Using a slightly modified version of the Nivio slider. I have searched high and low for fixes and blocks of code but so far none have worked. What happens is that as soon as the img cycles it gets the black border and looks like shit (only in IE8). Does anyone know a working fix for this? Or do we just have to ban IE from all computers?

  • jquery ui autcomplete does not disapper with no result

The problem is, if the first few chars match something and then you enter a char that should "break" any match, it just keeps the drop down in place with the results for the last matched char... make sense? Would this be something I needed to change in the script that returns the data or something in the jquery? thanks!

    Dear experts, I am trying to assign an function within an function object property without actually invoking then function itself. for instance, I have the following function object class definition function objectOne(name, value, id){ this.name=name; this.value=value; this.id=id; this.methodOne=methodFunction(this); } the last line this.methodOne=methodFunction(this); I want to pass the current object to the function but at the same time i don't want to execute the function right now. But if I do it this way without the bracket this.methodOne=methodFunction then the argument of this object would not be passed as a parameter to the function. Is there a way to work through this.     I have an interview I'm prepping for, I've written A LOT of code, specifically in C# and ASP.NET. I've written fair amounts of JavaScript, but no OO stuff in it. So I'm definately going to brush up on that. I remember for a previous job interview, I was asked Java questions, like not super intricate, but detailed stuff. Now I'm looking for a book maybe that I can read through in a day (or two) and known all the crannies of C#, ASP.NET and JavaScript. Different books obviously I'll be honest, for the Java interview, I actually read The J2EE certification book, and it helped A LOT!

  • How can I make the boostrap js carousel automatically cycle as soon as the page loads?

    Using bootstrap.js version 2.02 I'm trying to get the Twitter Bootstrap Carousel to automatically cycle as soon as someone visits my site. Right now, the auto cycling works only after you click one of the cycle buttons at least once. I want the carousel to begin cycling at the interval right away. Does anyone know how to do this? My site is hotairraccoon.com You'll see how after you click the carousel once, it begins to cycle every 5 seconds or so, but I don't want the click to be required to reveal carousel content. Thanks!

  • Remove Attributes onmouseover and onmouseout

    Hello all, I am trying to make use of JQuery's remove attribute like this: $('#rom-img_1').removeAttr('mouseover'); $('#rom-img_2').removeAttr('mouseout'); However, it does not remove the effects of the events as the events are still triggered on mouseover and on mouseout. I have tried adding "on" before the events names too but JQuery doesn't use it like that. Why isn't this working and how can I remove those attributes. I know about some suspicious ways to do this by styling visited links and then sneaking on computed style attribute, but it's more of a hack, Mozilla and maybe other are planning to crack down on this, as it might be abused. But I need this to allow users more integration with their identity providers, like: Have a Google account? ~ load contacts for sharing from Google Contacts API Have an Yahoo account? ~ load contacts for sharing from Yahoo Contacts API none of the above? show no link I don't want to provide all these options to all visitors, would be nice if I can detect the account, and provide integration only in that case.

  • 'Best' way to pull data relative to a div?

    This answer suggested i should put my data in JS instead of a textarea. Thinking about it i could have scripts and do something like myarray[i]="data" where i is the index of my for loop. However when i click a div how do i find out what i is? I have used var data = $(this).parent('.parent').find('.valuestr').eq(0).val(); which is extremely simple. Should i use a script or should i continue to do it with a textarea? if i should use a script 1) Whats the easiest way to find i and 2) Is it bad pratice to have dozens or hundreds of <script> in my html? or i can go through the loop twice but i still dont know the easiest way to find i. I would have to store it somewhere or go through multiple tags and count them.

    Hello im developing some backends in ASP.NET 2.0 and i have put all the images in Cache, GZIPED my CSS, JS files and everything to speedup the load of each options. the performance its good and i have no problems with the clients but i want "MORE" fast loads and im looking for some recomendations. Is important to mention that those websites are using only in intranets so im thinking to implement my next projects using IFRAME for content that way (i think) the options will be loading faster because they not have to load the entire site. any help / recomendations? thanks in advance.

    I have an ajax app that will run functions on every interaction. I'd like to be able to run my setup function each time so all my setup code for that function remains encapsulated. However, binding elements more than once means that the handler will run more than once, which is obviously undesirable. Is there an elegant way in jQuery to call bind on an element more than once without the handler being called more than once?
