• How to view output .mp files from Functional MetaPost

  I'm interested in using Functional MetaPost on Mac OS X: http://cryp.to/funcmp/ I'm looking for a tutorial like: http://haskell.org/haskellwiki/Haskell_in_5_steps but for a trivial FuncMP example, i.e. using GHC, I can compile something simple such as: import FMP myPicture = text "blah" main = generate "foo" 1 myPicture but I can't figure out how to view this foo.1.mp output. (It gives a runtime error about not finding 'virmp'; my MetaPost binary is 'mpost'; I can't figure out how to override this Parameter or what my .FunMP file is or should be doing...) I can run mpost on that but the output (foo.1.1) is what, PostScript? EPS? How do I use this? (I imagine I just need a simple LaTeX file with an EPS figure in it or something...) Preferably, I'd like to generate output (.ps or .pdf that I can view) so I an actually get somewhere with Functional MetaPost, learning it, playing with it, not banging my head against paths and binaries and shell commands.

  The core of this question is where build_attribute is required in a model with nested attribuites I'm working with a few models that are setup like: class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :contact accepts_nested_attributes_for :contact, :allow_destroy=> true end class Contact < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :person has_one :address, :as=>:addressable accepts_nested_attributes_for :address, :allow_destroy=> true end class Address < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :addressable, :polymorphic=>true end I have to define the new method of people_controller like: def new @person = Person.new @person.build_contact @person.contact.build_address #!not very good encapsulation respond_to do |format| format.html # new.html.erb format.xml { render :xml => @person } end end Without @person.contact.build_address the address relationship on contact is NIL. I don't like having to build_address in people_controller. That should be handled by Contact. Where do I define this in Contact since the contacts_controller is not involved here?

  So I created some rspec_scaffold for an Exercise model and added "map.resource :exercises" to my routes file and I was surprised when the "/exercises" url rendered the show action. What the heck? In both cases there is only one way (or two, if you count reverse too) how to get such sum (5 + 6, 6 + 6), so I expected the same probability..?

For example, I have a model Article, containing a file upload(a picture). class Article include Mongoid::Document field :title, :type => String field :content, :type => String mount_uploader :asset, AssetUploader end But I would like to only store the file once, in the case where I'll upload many times the same file for differents articles. I saw GridFS has a MD5 checksum. What would be the best way to prevent duplication of identicals files ? Thanks

• Delete all records with EDM

  Yes, I need to clean a table and I have EDM that comes with .net 3.5 sp1 (I haven't tried with EF4). I know that works: foreach(var item in ctx.Elements){ ctx.DeleteObject(item); } but it's not a point to get all data from the table and and deleting one by one. Ok, I know it's deleted when I run ctx.SaveChanges(); but DELETE FROM [Elements] looks better :) Tried stored procedure and function import, but VS designer for EDM just doesn't work. I also couldn't find any resources about defining it in .edmx manually.

• EF 4.0 - Many to Many relationship - problem with deletes

  My Entity Model is as follows: Person , Store and PersonStores Many-to-many child table to store PeronId,StoreId When I get a person as in the code below, and try to delete all the StoreLocations, it deletes them from PersonStores as mentioned but also deletes it from the Store Table which is undesirable. Also if I have another person who has the same store Id, then it fails saying "The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint \"FK_PersonStores_StoreLocations\". The conflict occurred in database \"EFMapping2\", table \"dbo.PersonStores\", column 'StoreId'.\r\nThe statement has been terminated" as it was trying to delete the StoreId but that StoreId was used for another PeronId and hence exception thrown. • Web-based map authoring with ArcGIS Server?

  I'm embarking on a project in which users will author, save, and share their own maps over the web. We will provide them with a large number of feature classes, but users will effectively author their own maps, map symbologies, etc. Furthermore, they will create and edit their own feature classes, which they can both map and share with other users. The model for AGS map services seems to be: author a map in ArcMap, save an MXD/MSD, publish. I'm struggling to understand how this can help us build a dynamic web mapping platform as described above. Can anyone offer some tips on how to go about it?

In Java Code i will access and bind the Label widget as usual: @UiField Label testlabel; For example, this could be useful when you define a Grid or FlexTable - i want to define the Labels for the table header within the XML layout file, not programmatically within the code. • Urllib's urlopen broken on some sites (e.g. StackApps api)

  I'm using urllib2's urlopen function to try and get a JSON result from the StackOverflow api. I'm fairly new to urllib, but this doesn't seem like the result I should be getting. I've tried it in other places and I get what I expect (the same as visiting the address with a browser gives me: a JSON object). Using urlopen on other sites (e.g. "http://google.com") works fine, and gives me actual html. I've also tried using urllib and it gives the same result. I'm pretty stuck, not even knowing where to look to solve this problem. Any ideas?

• Any working tutorials for Authlogic?

  I've been trying to build my first rails app and have gotten stuck on the issue of user authentication. I've found a number of tutorials for using various plug-ins to do this, but so far every single one of them is out-dated, and as a result, broken! From what I've read, I think Authlogic may be the best fit for me, and I've tried two things: 1) Going through Railscast, episode #160 (which is a tutorial for setting it up) 2) Using Ryan B's nifty_authentication gem with the --authlogic tag In both cases, I get the following error as soon as I try to do anything with a user: undefined local variable or method `acts_as_authentic' for # I believe this is from the User model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_authentic end I'm sure I've installed the authlogic gem, and I've added config.gem "authlogic" to my environment.rb Any ideas about what's wrong? Anybody know of a complete and up to date tutorial for adding user authentication?

How can I help rails know about it?

The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes? I've tried it in other places and I get what I expect (the same as visiting the address with a browser gives me: a JSON object). Using urlopen on other sites (e.g. "http://google.com") works fine, and gives me actual html. I've also tried using urllib and it gives the same result. I'm pretty stuck, not even knowing where to look to solve this problem. Any ideas?

• Django South Foreign Keys referring to pks with Custom Fields

  I'm working with a legacy database which uses the MySQL big int so I setup a simple custom model field to handle this: class BigAutoField(models.AutoField): def get_internal_type(self): return "BigAutoField" def db_type(self): return 'bigint AUTO_INCREMENT' # Note this won't work with Oracle. This works fine with django south for the id/pk fields (mysql desc "| id | bigint(20) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment |") but the ForeignKey fields in other models the referring fields are created as int(11) rather than bigint(20). I assume I have to add an introspection rule to the BigAutoField but there doesn't seem to be a mention of this sort of rule in the documentation (http://south.aeracode.org/docs/customfields.html). Update: Currently using Django 1.1.1 and South 0.6.2

  I have an xml document (XmlDocument) which looks like this... <stuff xmlns:n="hhtp://tempuri.com/"> </stuff> ... and a "fragment" (string) which looks like this <things> <thing n:type="info"> </thing> </things> I want to "inject" the fragment into the main document. How? (HINT: You can't use XmlDocumentFragment because the namespace 'n' isn't declared in the fragment, and the object model complains about this - throwing an 'unknown namespace' error even though the resultant document will be perfectly valid.)
