  • LinkSys WRT54GL + AM200 in half-bridge mode - UK setup guide recommendations?

    Crossposted from here I am basically looking for a good guide on how to set up my home network with this set of hardware. I need: Dynamic DNS Firewall + port-forwarding VPN Wake-on-LAN from outside firewall VOIP would be nice QoS would be nice (make torrents take lower priority to other services when those other services are happening) DHCP Wireless + WPA2 security Ability to play multiplayer computer games I am not a networking or computing neophyte, but the last time I messed with network gear was a few years ago, so am needing to dust off knowledge I kinda half have. I have read that I should be wanting to set up the AM200 in half-bridge mode, so that the WRT54GL gets the WAN IP - this sounds like a good idea, but I'd still like to be advised. I have read that the dd-wrt firmware will meet my needs (though I gather I'll need the vpn-specific build, which appears to preclude supporting VOIP), but I'm not wedded to using it. I live in the UK and my ISP supplies me with: a block of 8 static IPs, of which 5 are usable to me a PPPoA ADSL2+ connection

  • Polling duplex does not scale... what's the alternative?

    Our tests showed that the polling duplex binding simply does not scale and can not be used on a service within a web-farm or even a web garden. We have looked at TCP/IP sockets for a client push method, but the firewall issue is does allow us to use sockets. I was wondering what is the alternative "free" solution to this problem? allowing us to scale and allowing us to push data to client... I have also tried the solution in this article http://tomasz.janczuk.org/2009/09/scale-out-of-silverlight-http-polling.html but at the end, there was too much polling on a database, and performance was affected. Our Silverlight application need a pub/sub design, but it needs to be reliable and scalable... any ideas?

I suspect the main problem is that the NIC light is completely turned off after the shutdown, but even after spending a lot of time researching I can't understand if this is a limit of my network card, my mobo, or something in the OS which needs to be configured correctly in order to leave the NIC in stand by mode with the light flashing. the NIC is Realtek 8139, the motherboard Asus P5L13L-X

    I'm trying to assign a mapped IP address to a Windows 7 VM. I have setup running in Parallels 5 in wireless bridged networking mode. The problem I am having is that it looks like the VM is actually broadcasting the MAC address of the host machine and thus causing a clash of IP addresses on the network. I have tried removing the mapping for "alex-macbook" which results in the guest machine being assigned a normal DHCP address and NOT the one that is in the mapping of the router.

  • WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - unable to access data

    I have a WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - (WD20000H2NC-00) Was working fine until a few days ago. I guess there was a power failure and after that I am unable to access the 'Public' or the 'Download' folder anymore. I have been searching for answers everywhere but came up empty handed. Web GUI still works, SSH works. I hooked up both the drives on my PC and UFS Explorer sees the drive. But so far I am unable to retrieve any of my data. I do not remember what RAID setting I used when I first got the drive. I can see from GUI that it is set as "Stripe". The drive contains 10 years of family pictures which I really do not want to loose. Sadly and stupidly, I didn't even keep a backup of this drive. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help. Disk Utility on Ubuntu reports 1405 bad sectors on one drive. How can I retrieve my data? Please help.   • Why is my metro screen getting extended to half of the second screen?

    When I extend my desktop to the second screen, it stays fine for a few minutes, but after a while, the first metro screen stretches all the way to half of the second screen. The search bar etc stops working. The desktop itself shares fine. But the metro screen is messed up as well as the resolution. The second screen is using the recommended resolution. All I want is to have an extended screen. The problem occurs in my office Windows 8 laptop as well. Not sure what to do with it.     I am trying the Emacs MULE ITRANS input method to enter Devanagari unicode text. I am looking to enter a key sequence for Devanagari letter "Half-R" (??) i.e. U0931 U094d (which should be mapped to R according to the ITRANS Wikipedia page). While all other keys in the map work fine, this particular one does not! I know I can use M-x ucs-insert (or CTRL-x-8 RET) to enter this sequence, but it is getting tiresome. How do I fix this problem ?

    We have a ProCurve Switch 2810-48G (J9022A). We need to disable auto negotiation on two ports and manually configure them to be full duplex gige ports. From the web GUI, Configuration Tab, Port Configuration sub tab, I am only presented with the option to configure the port as Auto - 1000. I take this to mean, auto negotiate duplex, manually configure the speed to be gige. From the CLI when I try to set 1000-full I get the following error: Value 1000-full is not applicable to port 39 (or whatever port I try) The exact commands I have entered are: config interface 39 speed-duplex 1000-full BTW: speed-duplex auto-1000 works ( I also tried full-1000 and that did not work either) How do I manually configure the port such that it is manually configured to use full duplex, 1000 mbs?

  • Why aren't my MySQL Group By Hours vs Half Hours files Not displaying same data?

    I need to be able to display data that I have in 15 minute increments in different display types. I have two queries that are giving me trouble. One shows data by half an hour, the other shows data by hour. The only issue is that the data totals change between queries. It's not counting the data that happens between the time frames, only AT the time frames. Ex: There are 5 things that happen at 7:15am. 2 that happen at 7:30am and 4 that show at 7:00am. The 15 minute view displays all of the data. The half hour view displays the data from 7:00am and from 7:30am but ignores the 7:15am. The hour display only shows the 7:00am data Here are my queries: $query="SELECT * FROM data WHERE startDate='$startDate' and queue='$queue' GROUP BY HOUR(start),floor(minute(start)/30)"; and $query="SELECT * FROM data WHERE startDate='$startDate' and queue='$queue' GROUP BY HOUR(start) "; How can I pull out the data in groups like I have but get all the data included? Is the issue the way the data is stored in the mysql table? Currently I have a column with dates (2010-03-29) and a column with times (00:00) Do I need to convert these into something else?

  • Customer owes me half my payment. Should I take ownership of his AWS account for charging? How?

    Background They paid me my first half (back in April 15th) before even we could get into an agreement. Very nice of him! Then I've finished the 2 weeks job of setting up the servers, using his AWS credentials he had just bought. I waited for another 2 weeks for everything settling up, and it was all running fine. He did what he needed with his sftp account, everyone were happy. Now, it has been almost 2 months since I've finished the job and I still didn't get the 2nd half. I must assume, it's not much money (about U$400, converted), but it would help me pay the bills at least. Heck, the Amazon bills they are paying are little less than that (for now). Measures I'm wondering how I can go to charge him now. First thought, of course, would be taking everything down and say "pay now, or be doomed". If that's not good enough, then I lost it. I have no contracts and I doubt I could get a law suit in this country for such a low value based only on emails. And I don't really want to get too agressive here - there might be a business chance in the future and I don't want to ruin it. Second though would be just changing the password. But then he probably could gain access again by some recovery means. That's where my question may mainly relay. How can I do it and not leaving any room for recovery from his side? I even got the first AWS "your account was created" mail from himself, showing me I could begin my job, back then. Lastly, do you have any other idea on what I can and what I should do in this case? Responding to Answers Please, consider reading the current answers and comments. This is not a very simple case. I've considered many, many options (including all lawful ones) before considering this ones I've listed here, and I am willing to take the loss and all that. That's not the point. The point is being practical here. I will call him again and talk about it. I will do terrorism on getting lawyers and getting contract. I am ready to go all forth while I have time and energy for it. But, in practice, there is this extra thing I can do to assure myself of the work I've done. I can basically take it back and delete everything! I'd only take his password because I can find no other way to do it within Amazon. Maybe, contacting Amazon and explaining the situation?     Having a weird bug in production and just wondering if it's possible for a half submitted web page to processed by the server? The page has no view state just using plain old html controls and accessing data displayed in repeater on the back end via Request.Form[name] etc. Is it possible for a request to be truncated perhaps due to lost internet connection and the page still processed by the server. Therefore if field not part of the request Request.Form[name] could result in null? I know can use fiddler to modify request but unfortunately we are not allowed to change group policy and change the proxy! Many Thanks

Now in an attempt to save a few more pixels I decided to give autohiding of the dock a go and ran into a problem that have plagued me all night... When you toggle the switch to automatically hide the dock you get stuck with a small delay before it appears when hovering the edge of the screen. I have learnt that this is one of the many design principles Apple have put in use. In this case it appears to be their mission to save me from seeing the dock those few times when it's not intentional to touch the screens edge. In Windows there was a way to tweak this setting to have the menubar appear instantly by altering some registry value. Is there some way I can do this in Mac OS X?

  • How do I uninstall IE9 if it is half-installed and not on the uninstall programs list?

    Today I started to install Internet Explorer 9, but then before the auto-install can complete I forced it to quit. Now I am in an install neverland - it won't let me install because it says it is already there, and it won't let me uninstall from the Uninstall Programs menu because it doesn't doesn't show up in the list. Can anyone give me a backend way of deleting what has been installed so that I can re-run the install process? (Incidentally, I can launch IE9 but for some reason it doesn't download things correctly)

  • Why does Resource Monitor in windows 7 show half my memory as "Hardware Reserved"?

    Does anyone know why in Windows 7 Resource Monitor shows that I have 8 GB of RAM installed on my computer, but I only have 3.2 GB available as 4.8 GB are in "Hardware Reserve". I researched this issue and tried going into msconfig and making sure that in the boot options the number of processors and max memory options were turned off. I also opened the computer up and reseated each of the memory sticks while clearing out any dust that was in there. Some info on the system I am using: OS: Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit Edition CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9750 Memory: 4 X 2GB DDR2 memory Motherboard: MS-7548 (Aspen) Any help would be much appreciated.
