  • Hide non printable characters in vim

    Vim shows non-printable characters prefixed with a ^ (for instance ^@ for a NUL byte). I have a column based file containing both printable and non-printable characters which is difficult to read, since each non-printable character shifts all remaining columns one character to the right. Is there a way to hide non-printable characters or simply display a placeholder char instead? I also don't mind having every character be represented by two characters.

  • Mac OS X - Could not start Terminal.app - shell has illegal value

    I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine. Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 It displays the following error. "Your are not authorized to run this application" "The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value" After that I have deleted the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist But the same message is displayed. I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.

  • Why are special characters such as "carriage return" represented as "^M"?

    Why is ^M used to represent a carriage return in VIM and other contexts? My guess is that M is the 13th letter of the Latin alphabet and a carriage return is \x0D or decimal 13. Is this the reason? Is this representation documented anywhere? I notice that Tab is represented by ^I, which is the ninth letter of the Latin alphabet. Conversely, Tab is \x09 or decimal 9, which supports my theory stated above. However, where might this be documented as fact?

  • What is adding frog characters to my URLs?

    While browsing the "Crawl Errors" section of Google Webmaster Tools, I discovered a set of very strange 500 errors in reference to my site: I was able to track down what these characters are, and apparently they are the first two characters in the Unicode Private Use Area. My font just happened to map them to a frog wearing a tiny crown, and a symbol that resembles the numeral 7. These symbols only appear on the addresses of non-HTML files; office documents, PDFs, etc. - but they do not just appear in the file name. Where are these symbols coming from, and is there any way I can get rid of them so Google can properly crawl my site? Some background information: Using Web Server running WS2K3 with IIS6 and PHP 5.3.8 Site encoding is UTF-8 These symbols don't appear on the page, or in the source

  • Finding Those Pesky Unicode Characters in Visual Studio

    Sometimes I’m handed HTML that I need to wire up and I find these characters.  Usually there are only a couple on the page and, while annoying to find, it’s not a big deal.  Recently I found dozens and dozens of these guys on a page and wasn’t very happy at the prospect of having to manually search them all out and remove/replace them.  That is, until I did some research and found this very  helpful article by Aaron Jensen - Finding Non-ASCII Characters with Visual Studio. Aaron’s wonderful solution: Try searching your code with the following regular expression: [^\x00-\x7f] Open any of Visual Studio’s find windows and enter the regular expression above into the “Find what:” text box. Click the “Find Options” plus sign to expand the list of options. Check the last box “Use:” and choose “Regular expressions” from the drop down menu. Easy and efficient.  Thanks, Aaron!

    The name of our shared data source in RS (report server) is "AF1 Live Database" (no underscore characters - just spaces between words) and is the same in report builder in VS. However, the following error pops up when the RDL of this report is uploaded onto our company site and run. (error we are receiving...) The report server cannot process the report or shared dataset. The shared data source 'AF1_Live_Database' for the report server or SharePoint site is not valid. Browse to the server or site and select a shared data source. (rsInvalidDataSourceReference) We have no idea why the error reports the shared data source as 'AF1_Live_Database' with underscore characters? As this appears to be the problem that keeps the report from running we are seeking your help, thanks.

I have a properties file which has properties like: blog_loc=http://my.blog.com blog_name="my blog name" I open the properties file, change the blog_name property and save the file. The following are the lines of code I use: PropertiesConfiguration propertyFile = new PropertiesConfiguration(propertyFileName); propertyFile.setProperty(blog_name, "blog name"); propertyFile.save(propertyFileName + ".out"); Unfortunately, in the output file certain characters get escaped as follows: blog_loc=http:\/\/my.blog.com blog_name=\"blog name\" Is there any way of preventing escaping of the above characters?

  • Including Specific Characters with Google Web Fonts

    I'm using the Open Sans web font from Google Web Fonts on my website. I only need the basic latin subset, but I do use the Psi (?) character quite often as well and I would like to use the Open Sans version of that character, without having to include the entire greek subset. I looked at this help page which shows how to embed specific characters only using the text parameter, but there's no mention of including specific characters.   • SFML title bar with weird characters when using UTF-8

    (Previously asked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4922478/sfml-title-bar-with-weird-characters-when-using-utf-8) I've just started using SFML and one of the first problems I've come across is some weird characters on the the titlebar whenever I try to use accents or any other extended char. For instance, I've got: sf::RenderWindow Ventana(sf::VideoMode(800, 600, 32), "Año nuevóóó"); And the titlebar renders like AÂ+o nuevoA³A³A³ This ONLY HAPPENS if my source code file is enconded in UTF-8. If I change the file encoding to ISO-8859-1, it shows properly. Obviously all of my files use UTF-8, as its the system-wide encoding. I'm using GCC under Ubuntu GNU/Linux. I've tried using the different utilities in sf::Unicode to adapt the text, but none of them seems to work.

The system "thinks" via its simulator, building and adapting code on its own; and then carries out the best solution. The more the simulated fighter fights with the human player, the more it learns to counter that players fighting skills. But there should be more.     Whats a best practice for creating websites do to the fact that i need to enter "ö" within the content/title/meta. Should I spell it without, and just use a "normal" character or do i put in this code everywhere. or do i spell it half the time with and half the time without. whats the best practice for seo? Google takes into account user intent. Which makes things complicated(in my mind). The user will be searching without the "special characters" but because of the whole "user intent" thing, I don't know the best practice for this situation is. Should I use a mix of both spellings? Should I use the special characters in anchortext/headers/title/metadescription?

    I'm quite new to game development, so would like to get a consensus on methods of doing this. My game features a 2D character that is able to pick up and drop objects, for example, a stick. My question is: is it advisable / possible to manipulate the image of the character and image of the stick to make it look like the character is now carrying a stick; or is it best to have a separate sprite sheet for the character with the stick and the character without? EDIT: To be clear - I have a lot of characters, with a few items (4 separate items and over 20 characters)

    My Question is what method should I use if I wanted to get the total number of characters a user inputs? without using arrays, i tried using .length() but it did not return all characters say from the first and lastname, it only returned the first name. Here's an example of my code.     Sql 2005 I have a text column that has special characters stored e.g. CR, LF, but I don't know what they are. I would like to view these characters in management studio. Something like in Notepad ++ Show Symbol Show All Characters. My Goal: I am working on a data conversion from one database to another. When the data is converted and viewed in the native application it is displaying some funky characters like a pipe character. I would like to eliminate these characters during the conversion process.

    Yes, i saw all the questions about the weird characters at the end of a PHP script. I will ask here because no solution from the internet and serverfault worked. At this page: https://webmail.pixelwolf.ch/test/ there are some mysterious characters. And that's the problem why my Roundcube does not work. What I already checked and tried: 1. added AddDefaultCharset UTF-8 2. changed to AddDefaultCharset to ISO xxx (dont know the string right now) 3. php5filter disabled 4. gzip checked (according to php returns junk characters at end of everything) but characters remain there For notice: on my local server there aren't any of those characters. On local it just works. So what can I check further?

    As detailed here among other places, the only valid characters in a html/css class name is a-z, A-Z, 0-9, hyphen and underscore, and the first character should be a letter. But in practice, what characters are in fact supported by most browsers? More specifically, I wonder what browsers properly understands a slash (/) in a class name, and what browsers support class names starting with a number. I'm primarily interested in getting an answer for html rather than xhtml, in case there is a difference. Thank you.

    I just found out about this linux-based network toolset called aircrack-ng, and its pretty interesting, and I'm learning how to use it. But it just occured to me, that like a lot of linux programs, they're developed in foreign countries, with different laws. I did do a google search, and the only thing in regards to what i am asking that pops up is a question on another site. So, my question is, is it illegal in America, specifically Ohio, to use this program? I mean i know it has a legitimate purpose, but so does hemp.
