  • Android Video Camera : still picture

    - by Alex
I use the camera intent to capture video. Here is the problem: If I use this line of code, I can record video. But onActivityResult doesn't work. Intent intent = new Intent("android.media.action.VIDEO_CAMERA"); If I use this line of code, after press the recording button, the camera is freezed, I mean, the picture is still. Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); BTW, when I use $Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); to capture a picture, it works fine. The java file is as follows: package com.camera.picture; import java.io.File; import java.text.SimpleDateFormat; import java.util.Date; import android.app.Activity; import android.content.ContentValues; import android.content.Intent; import android.net.Uri; import android.os.Bundle; import android.os.Environment; import android.provider.MediaStore; import android.util.Log; import android.view.View; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.ImageView; import android.widget.Toast; import android.widget.VideoView; public class PictureCameraActivity extends Activity { private static final int IMAGE_CAPTURE = 0; private static final int VIDEO_CAPTURE = 1; private Button startBtn; private Button videoBtn; private Uri imageUri; private Uri videoUri; private ImageView imageView; private VideoView videoView; /** Called when the activity is first created. * sets the content and gets the references to * the basic widgets on the screen like * {@code Button} or {@link ImageView} */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.img); videoView = (VideoView)findViewById(R.id.videoView); startBtn = (Button) findViewById(R.id.startBtn); startBtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { startCamera(); } }); videoBtn = (Button) findViewById(R.id.videoBtn); videoBtn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub startVideoCamera(); } }); } public void startCamera() { Log.d("ANDRO_CAMERA", "Starting camera on the phone..."); String fileName = "testphoto.jpg"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, fileName); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.DESCRIPTION, "Image capture by camera"); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.MIME_TYPE, "image/jpeg"); imageUri = getContentResolver().insert( MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, imageUri); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_VIDEO_QUALITY, 1); startActivityForResult(intent, IMAGE_CAPTURE); } protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) { if (requestCode == IMAGE_CAPTURE) { if (resultCode == RESULT_OK){ Log.d("ANDROID_CAMERA","Picture taken!!!"); imageView.setImageURI(imageUri); } } if (requestCode == VIDEO_CAPTURE) { if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) { Log.d("ANDROID_CAMERA","Video taken!!!"); Toast.makeText(this, "Video saved to:\n" + data.getData(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); videoView.setVideoURI(videoUri); } } } private void startVideoCamera() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub //create new Intent Log.d("ANDRO_CAMERA", "Starting camera on the phone..."); String fileName = "testvideo.mp4"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Video.Media.TITLE, fileName); values.put(MediaStore.Video.Media.DESCRIPTION, "Video captured by camera"); values.put(MediaStore.Video.Media.MIME_TYPE, "video/mp4"); videoUri = getContentResolver().insert( MediaStore.Video.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); Intent intent = new Intent("android.media.action.VIDEO_CAMERA"); //Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, videoUri); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_VIDEO_QUALITY, 1); // start the Video Capture Intent startActivityForResult(intent, VIDEO_CAPTURE); } private static File getOutputMediaFile() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub // To be safe, you should check that the SDCard is mounted // using Environment.getExternalStorageState() before doing this. • How to create a shared lock blocking an intent exclusive lock

    - by FremenFreedom
As I understand it, a SELECT statement will place a shared lock on the rows that it will return. While that SELECT is running, if an UPDATE statement comes along and needs to grab an intent exclusive lock then that UPDATE statement will need to wait until the SELECT statement releases its shared locks. I am trying to test this SELECT shared lock thing by doing a BEGIN TRAN and then running a SELECT, not COMMITing, and then running an UPDATE in another session on the exact same row. The UPDATE worked fine -- no lock, no wait. So this must not be a valid way to simulate a shared lock blocking an intent exclusive lock? Can you give me a scenario where I can create a lock with a SELECT that would force an UPDATE to wait? I'm working with SQL Server 2000 and 2005 across a linked server: the table is on the 2005 instance, the select is happening on 2000, and the update is executed from 2005. All in SSMS 2005.

  • Launch Google Maps app

    - by oriharel
Hi, I'm trying to launch Google maps from my application. I'm using: GeoPoint center = _mapView.getMapCenter(); Uri uri = Uri.parse("geo:"+center.getLatitudeE6()+","+center.getLongitudeE6()); Log.d(LOG_TAG, "Launching Google Maps with Uri: ("+uri+")"); Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri); startActivity(intent); I tested it with a map centered on somewhere in NYC, however Google maps opens not centered there. I followed Android Developer's site reference to use: "geo:latitude, longitude" pattern. the log that you see prints: Launching Google Maps with Uri: (geo:40763500,-73979305) anyone knows what can be the problem?

  • added TextToSpeech to my activity and now my onDestroy is not called any more, bug?

    - by hermo
I added TextToSpeech to my app, following the guidelines in the following post: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/09/introduction-to-text-to-speech-in.html and now my onDestroy is no longer called when the back button is pressed. I filed a bug report regarding this: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=7674 Figured i should also ask here if someone else has seen this, and found a solution? It seems that it is the intent that causes the problem, i.e. the following: Intent checkIntent = new Intent(); checkIntent.setAction(TextToSpeech.Engine.ACTION_CHECK_TTS_DATA); startActivityForResult(checkIntent, MY_DATA_CHECK_CODE); If I skip this intent, and just go ahead and create a tts-instance, it works fine. Any clues to what is wrong with this intent?

  • Process: Unable to start service com.google.android.gms.checkin.CheckinService with Intent

    - by AndyRoid
I'm trying to build a Google map application but keep receiving this in my LogCat. I have all the permissions and meta-data set in my manifest, but am still dumbfounded by this error. Have looked everywhere on SO for this specific error but found nothing relating to com.google.android.gms.checkin A little bit about my structural hierarchy. MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity with three tabs underneath actionbar. Each tab has it's own fragment. On the gMapFragment I create a GPSTrack object from my GPSTrack class which extends Service and implements LocationListener. The problem is that when I start the application I get this message: I have all my libraries imported properly and I even added the google-play-services.jar into my libs folder. I also installed Google Play Services APKs through CMD onto my emulator. Furthermore the LocationManager lm = = (LocationManager) mContext.getSystemService(LOCATION_SERVICE); in my GPSTrack class always returns null. Why is this and how can I fix these issues? Would appreciate an explanation along with solution too, I want to understand what's going on here. ============== Code: gMapFragment.java public class gMapFragment extends SupportMapFragment { private final String TAG = "gMapFragment"; • Remove Activity as Default Launcher

    - by sixeightzero
I set my activity as a default launcher to intercept home button clicks like so: <activity android:name=".ExampleActivity" android:label="@string/app_name"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.HOME" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" /> </intent-filter> </activity> When my activity, ExampleActivity is launched, if i click the home key, I get prompted to choose. If I select make this my default and chose my activity, I am stuck In my activity as desired. The problem is, when I leave the activity, I try to remove my activity from the default launcher, but am unsuccessful. I have tried: ComponentName componentName = new ComponentName( "com.example.exampleactivity", "com.example.exampleactivity.class"); pm.setComponentEnabledSetting(componentName, PackageManager.COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE_DEFAULT, PackageManager.DONT_KILL_APP); And: PackageManager pm = getActivity().getPackageManager(); ComponentName name = new ComponentName(this, "com.example.exampleactivity.class"); pm.setComponentEnabledSetting(name, PackageManager.COMPONENT_ENABLED_STATE_DISABLED, 0); But my designation for the home is never removed. Does anyone have a working way to fix the above? I only wan't the home button to be default for a specific activity, not my entire application. When I leave the activity, it should be removed and restored to default.

  • Activity gets killed while executing the camera intent

    - by BlackRider
In my app I call the system camera to take a picture, and then handle the result in onActivityResult. You know, the usual. It used to work, but now my calling activity gets killed while I'm taking the picture. Specifically, onDestroy() is called on my activity right after I press the camera shutter. The photo does get taken & saved (I've checked that the file gets written on the SD card). After I accept the photo, instead of returning to the calling activity and invoking onActivityResult, the previous activity in the activity stack gets called. I see no exceptions in the logcat. My custom exception handler doesn't get called. If it matters, my app also includes a service that listens to GPS updates, but I unregister all the receivers in onPause(). Here's the call stack for MyCallingActivity.onDestroy(): Thread [<1> main] (Suspended (breakpoint at line 303 in NewPlaceDetailsActivity)) NewPlaceDetailsActivity.onDestroy() line: 303 ActivityThread.performDestroyActivity(IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 2663 ActivityThread.handleDestroyActivity(IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 2694 ActivityThread.access$2100(ActivityThread, IBinder, boolean, int, boolean) line: 117 BinderProxy(ActivityThread$H).handleMessage(Message) line: 968 ActivityThread$H(Handler).dispatchMessage(Message) line: 99 Looper.loop() line: 130 ActivityThread.main(String[]) line: 3687 Method.invokeNative(Object, Object[], Class, Class[], Class, int, boolean) line: not available [native method] Method.invoke(Object, Object...) line: 507 ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run() line: 842 ZygoteInit.main(String[]) line: 600 NativeStart.main(String[]) line: not available [native method] This is how I start the camera activity, in case you're wondering: protected void startCamera() { createPhotoDirsIfNeeded(); String fileName = "temp.jpg"; ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, fileName); m_capturedImageUri = getContentResolver().insert(MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI, values); m_photoFileName = APP_PHOTO_PATH + "/" + DateFormat.format(DATE_FORMAT, Calendar.getInstance().getTime()) + ".jpg"; File picFile = new File(m_photoFileName); if(picFile.exists()) { picFile.delete(); } // start the camera activity Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile(picFile)); startActivityForResult(intent, IntentHelper.REQUEST_TAKE_PHOTO); } How can I find out why does my activity get killed, AND removed from the stack instead of being created again?

  • Android - I can't make a widget clickable to launch an intent

    - by Daniele
Hi all. I am new to Android development. I have developed a very simple widget that was meant to interact with the user via an ImageButton. What I am trying to do now is as follows. When a user taps the button (after adding the widget to their home screen), I want the phone to dial a certain telephone number. A sort of speed dial for your home screen. Unfortunately when I tap the button nothing happens. This is the body of my SpeedDialAppWidgetProvider.onUpdate method: Log.d("", "beginning of onUpdate"); final int N = appWidgetIds.length; for (int i=0; i<N; i++) { int appWidgetId = appWidgetIds[i]; Log.d("", "dealing with appWidgetId: " + appWidgetId); // Create an Intent to launch ExampleActivity Intent dialIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL, Uri.parse("tel:1234567")); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, dialIntent, 0); Log.d("", "pendingIntent classname " + pendingIntent.getClass().getName()); // Get the layout for the App Widget and attach an on-click listener to the button RemoteViews remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.speed_dial_appwidget); remoteViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.dial_icon, pendingIntent); Log.d("", "remoteViews classname " + remoteViews.getClass().getName()); // Tell the AppWidgetManager to perform an update on the current App Widget appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetId, remoteViews); Log.d("", "end of onUpdate"); I can see the method is called and the result of the logging makes sense. The speed_dial_appwidget.xml file is like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" androidrientation="vertical" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" > <ImageButton id="@+id/dial_icon" android:src="@drawable/speed_dial" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"/> </LinearLayout> Can you please help me with this? • Sharing a file from Android to Gmail or to Dropbox

    - by Calaf
To share a simple text file, I started by copying verbatim from FileProvider's manual page: <application android:allowBackup="true" android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="@string/app_name" android:theme="@style/AppTheme" > <provider android:name="android.support.v4.content.FileProvider" android:authorities="com.mycorp.helloworldtxtfileprovider.MainActivity" android:exported="false" android:grantUriPermissions="true" > <meta-data android:name="android.support.FILE_PROVIDER_PATHS" android:resource="@xml/my_paths" /> </provider> <activity android:name="com.mycorp.helloworldtxtfileprovider.MainActivity" ... Then I saved a text file and used, again nearly verbatim, the code under Sending binary content. (Notice that this applies more accurately in this case than "Sending text content" since we are sending a file, which happens to be a text file, rather than just a string of text.) For the convenience of duplication on your side, and since the code is in any case so brief, I'm including it here in full. public class MainActivity extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_main); String filename = "hellow.txt"; String fileContents = "Hello, World!\n"; byte[] bytes = fileContents.getBytes(); FileOutputStream fos = null; try { fos = this.openFileOutput(filename, MODE_PRIVATE); fos.write(bytes); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } finally { try { fos.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } File file = new File(filename); Intent shareIntent = new Intent(); shareIntent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_SEND); shareIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.fromFile(file)); shareIntent.setType("application/txt"); startActivity(Intent.createChooser(shareIntent, getResources().getText(R.string.send_to))); file.delete(); } } Aside from adding a value for send_to in res/values/strings.xml, the only other change I did to the generic Hello, World that Eclipse creates is to add the following in res/xml/my_paths.xml (as described on the page previously referenced. <paths xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <Files-path name="files" path="." /> </paths> This code runs fine. It shows a list of intent recipients. But sending the text file to either Dropbox or to Gmail fails. Dropbox sends the notification "Uploading to Dropbox" followed by "Upload failed: my_file.txt". After "sending message.." Gmail sends "Couldn't send attachment". What is wrong?

  • getting maps to accept a dynamically generated KML file?

    - by arc
Hi. I have a button that launches the google maps app on my device via an intent. I want to be able to pass it a php page that generates a KML file. I have done this on a website before using the googlemaps api in JS - but it doesn't seem to work on Android. My php file is as follows; <?php echo '<kml xmlns="http://www.google.com/earth/kml/2">'; echo '<Placemark>'; echo '<name>Google Inc.</name>'; echo '<description>1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043</description>'; echo '<Point>'; echo '<coordinates>-122.0841430, 37.4219720, 0</coordinates>'; echo '</Point>'; echo '</Placemark>'; echo '</kml>'; ?> Launching with: final Intent myIntent = new Intent(android.content.Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("geo:0,0?q=http://website.com/kml_gen.php")); startActivity(myIntent); It launches maps, finds the file - but won't display it 'because it contains errors'. Is this just not possible, or are there other ways to construct the intent that might work?

  • Is there a difference between starting an application from the OS or from adb

    - by aruwen
I do have a curious error in my application. My app crashes (don't mind the crash, I roughly know why - classloader) when I start the application from the OS directly, then kill it from the background via any Task Killer (this is one of the few ways to reproduce the crash consistently - simulating the OS freeing memory and closing the application) and try to restart it again. The thing is, if I start the application via adb shell using the following command: adb shell am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.my.packagename/myLaunchActivity I cannot reproduce the crash. So is there any difference in how Android OS calls the application as opposed to the above call? EDIT: added the manifest (just changed names) <?xml version="1.0" ?> <manifest android:versionCode="5" android:versionName="1.05" package="com.my.sample" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="7"/> <application android:icon="@drawable/square_my_logo" android:label="@string/app_name"> <activity android:label="@string/app_name" android:name="com.my.InfoActivity" android:screenOrientation="landscape"></activity> <activity android:label="@string/app_name" android:name="com.my2.KickStart" android:screenOrientation="landscape"/> <activity android:label="@string/app_name" android:name="com.my2.Launcher" android:screenOrientation="landscape"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN"/> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER"/> </intent-filter> </activity> </application> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE"/></manifest> starting the com.my2.Launcher from the adb shell

  • IntentNotFoundException for TextToSpeech.Engine.ACTION_INSTALL_TTS_DATA

    - by Casebash
I am trying to implement text to speech by following this article on the Android Developers Blog. It suggests the following code for installing text to speech data if it is not supported. Intent installIntent = new Intent(); installIntent.setAction(TextToSpeech.Engine.ACTION_INSTALL_TTS_DATA); startActivity(installIntent); This throws an Exception: ActivityNotFoundException: No activity found to handle Intent However, I am using the code here to determine the the intent is actually supported. Here is the list representation: [ResolveInfo{43cc5280 com.svox.pico.DownloadVoiceData p=0 o=0 m=0x108000}] Why doesn't this work?

  • RemoteViewsService never gets called whenever we update app widget

    - by user3689160
I am making one task widget application. This is a simple widget application which can be used to add new tasks by clicking on "+New Task". So ideally what I have done is, I've added a widget first, then when we click on "+New Task" a new activity opens up from where we can type in a new task and it should get updated in the ListView inside the home screen widget. Problem: Now whenever I add a new task, the ListView does not get updated. The data gets inside the database a new is created as well. My onUpdate(...) method gets called as well. There is a WidgetService.java which is a RemoteViewService that is being used to call the RemoteViewFactory but WidgetService.java gets called only when we create the widget, never after that. WidgetService.java never gets called again. I have the following setup MyWidgetProvider.java AppWidgetProvider class for updating the widget and filling its remote views. public class MyWidgetProvider extends AppWidgetProvider { public static int randomNumber=132; static RemoteViews remoteViews = null; @Override public void onUpdate(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int[] appWidgetIds) { updateList(context, appWidgetManager, appWidgetIds); } public static void updateList(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int[] appWidgetIds){ final int N = appWidgetIds.length; Log.d("MyWidgetProvider", "length="+appWidgetIds.length+""); for (int i = 0; i<N; ++i) { Log.d("MyWidgetProvider", "value"+ i + "="+appWidgetIds[i]); // Calling updateWidgetListView(context, appWidgetIds[i]); to load the listview with data remoteViews = updateWidgetListView(context, appWidgetIds[i]); // Updating the Widget with the new data filled remoteviews appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetIds[i], remoteViews); appWidgetManager.notifyAppWidgetViewDataChanged(appWidgetIds[i], R.id.lv_tasks); } } private static RemoteViews updateWidgetListView(Context context, int appWidgetId) { Intent svcIntent = null; remoteViews = new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(),R.layout.widget_demo); //RemoteViews Service needed to provide adapter for ListView svcIntent = new Intent(context, WidgetService.class); //passing app widget id to that RemoteViews Service svcIntent.putExtra(AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, appWidgetId); //setting a unique Uri to the intent //binding the data from the WidgetService to the svcIntent svcIntent.setData(Uri.parse(svcIntent.toUri(Intent.URI_INTENT_SCHEME))); //setting adapter to listview of the widget remoteViews.setRemoteAdapter(R.id.lv_tasks, svcIntent); //setting click listner on the "New Task" (TextView) of the widget remoteViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.tv_add_task, buildButtonPendingIntent(context)); return remoteViews; } // Just to create PendingIntent, this will be broadcasted everytime textview containing "New Task" is clicked and OnReceive method of MyWidgetIntentReceiver.java will run public static PendingIntent buildButtonPendingIntent(Context context) { Intent intent = new Intent(); intent.putExtra("TASK_DONE_VALUE_VALID", false); intent.setAction("com.ommzi.intent.action.CLEARTASK"); return PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); } // This method is defined here so that we can update the remoteviews from other classes as well, like we'll do it in MyWidgetIntentReceiver.java public static void pushWidgetUpdate(Context context, RemoteViews remoteViews) { ComponentName myWidget = new ComponentName(context, MyWidgetProvider.class); AppWidgetManager manager = AppWidgetManager.getInstance(context); manager.updateAppWidget(myWidget, remoteViews); } } WidgetService.java A RemoteViewsService class for creating a RemoteViewsFactory. public class WidgetService extends RemoteViewsService { @Override public RemoteViewsFactory onGetViewFactory(Intent intent) { int appWidgetId = intent.getIntExtra(AppWidgetManager.EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID,AppWidgetManager.INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); Purpose of this is to get a new task added to the list of task. MyWidgetIntentReceiver.java BroadcastReceiver fired using a pending intent that starts an activity GetTaskActivity.java. Please help me out with this problem. I am seen all the posts here and on other websites no body is having any solution. But I am sure a solution exist to this. Thanks for your help!

  • Mixing menuItem.setIntent with onOptionsItemSelected doesn't work

    - by superjos
While extending a sample Android activity that fires some other activities from its menu, I came to have some menu items handled within onOptionsItemSelected, and some menu items (that just fired intents) handled by calling setIntent within onCreateOptionsMenu. Basically something like: @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { super.onCreateOptionsMenu(menu); menu.add(0, MENU_ID_1, Menu.NONE, R.string.menu_text_1); menu.add(0, MENU_ID_2, Menu.NONE, R.string.menu_text_2); menu.add(0, MENU_ID_3, Menu.NONE, R.string.menu_text_3). setIntent(new Intent(this, MyActivity_3.class)); return true; } @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { super.onOptionsItemSelected(item); switch (item.getItemId()) { case (MENU_ID_1): // Process menu command 1 ... return true; case (MENU_ID_2): // Process menu command 2 ... // E.g. also fire Intent for MyActivity_2 return true; default: return false; } } Apparently, in this situation the Intent set on MENU_ID_3 is never fired, or anyway the related activity is never started. Android javadoc at some point goes like <<[if you set an intent on a menu item] and nothing else handles the item, then the default behavior will be to [start the activity with the intent]. What does it actually mean "and nothing else handles the item"? Is it enough to return false from onOptionsItemSelected? I also tried not to call super.onOptionsItemSelected(item) at the beginning and only invoke it in the default switch case, but I had same results. Does anyone have any suggestion? Does Android allow to mix the two type of handling? Thanks for your time everyone.
