• Why Windows 7 isn't written in C#?

  I saw a similar question about the reason Google Chrome wasn't written in C#. But with the upcoming version of Windows and Microsoft's flagship language, I am having a hard time understanding why Microsoft isn't pushing C# to its fullest potential to give it more exposure via their market share? In addition can be interpreted as "Is C# and the .Net framework suitable to run a modern OS like Windows 7" Btw this is not a flaming question, but curiosity. I use C# daily and really love it.

  I want to be able to take a url and map it to a set of web parameters. For example: www.web.com/1/2/3 would be interpreted as www.web.com/default.asp?x=1&y=2&z=3 I know I've seen it done, I just can't find it anymore. Any ideas?

I don't really want to spark any flame wars, but: When should you use scripting languages over compiled languages for website development? (and vice versa) Just to clarify, for the sake of this question, I define a "scripting language" to mean an interpreted language like PHP, Python, or Ruby, and a "compiled language" to mean a strongly typed, compiled language like C#, C++, Java, or VB.

  Many VMS, JVM/LLVM/... have JITs -- as the code is being interpreted, x86 instructions are created on the fly and executed. If there something similar to this for FPGAS? Instead of finding the actual fixture with that name, the fixture label is interpreted as a string. • Generating a readable colour from RGB?

  Hi, I'm putting in a function which will allow a user to input a color (eg: purple) and it will change the look of their profile to be purple. It's interpreted from text into a 'Color' class which stores them inside itself as RGB numbers (int for red, one for green and other for blue). What i don't know how to do is logically turn these three numbers into another 3 which will make a readable colour. Can anyone help me on how to do this? Joe

• Compiling .xsl files into .class files

  I'm currently working on a Java web project (Spring) which involves heavy use of xsl transformations. The stylesheets seldom change, so they are currently cached. I was thinking of improving performance by compiling the xsl-s into class files so they wouldn't have to be interpreted on each request. I'm new to Java, so I don't really know the ecosystem that well. What's the best way of doing this (libraries, methods etc.)? Thanks, Alex

I want a list of all the elements in my string list that are accepted by at least one of the filters. • How can i interpret a time value in ascii into a numerical value?

  I have a file which is as follows: 15:03:21 II 0.88 0.64 15:03:31 II 0.88 0.64 15:03:42 II 0.40 0.40 etc. after loading the file in matlab, I want to be able to read the first column (which corresponds to time) and interpret them as numerical values. At the moment, they are interpreted as a string of ascii characters and i can't perform any mathematical operations on them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can read the time as numbers instead of a string of ascii characters?

  Is there an easy way to use emacs key-bindings when you are using a not-English (Russian) keyboard layout? Whenever an international layout is on, all keystrokes are interpreted literally, M-? instead of M-a. As a result I can't use commands. • Visual Studio stack trace in notepad++

  This is probably just a setting I'm not seeing, but when I get a stack trace out of Visual Studio's exception helper dialog, it has \r\n after each "line" in the call stack. When I copy this and paste it into Notepad++, it shows up as literally \r\n, visible in the document. Of course I'd like these to be interpreted as CR LF, so everything's on a different line. Anyone know how to do this?
