    I have a table to entities (lets call them people) and properties (one person can have an arbitrary number of properties). Ex: People Name Age -------- Jane 27 Joe 36 Jim 16 Properties Name Property ----------------- Jane Smart Jane Funny Jane Good-looking Joe Smart Joe Workaholic Jim Funny Jim Young I would like to write an efficient select that would select people based on age and return all or some of their properties. Ex: People older than 26 Name Properties Jane Smart, Funny, Good-looking Joe Smart, Workaholic It's also acceptable to return one of the properties and total property count. The query should be efficient: there are millions of rows in people table, hundreds of thousands of rows in properties table (so most people have no properties). There are hundreds of rows selected at a time. Is there any way to do it?

    I'm using Jasper Reports/iReports crosstabs to create a matrix of student and results. So for example Jim is doing subjects A, B, C and Sally is doing A, C What I want is something like: Subj-A Subj-B Subj-C Jim P M D Sally D D But as my SQL orders by name then subject I get: Subj-A Subj-B Subj-C Subj-A Subj-C Jim P M D Sally D D As you can see in the above the results are correct but the formatting is woeful. Is there anyway I can generate the reports to use names and subject only once and filling in the values from here? This probably isn't clear.

    I have two tables: RatingsTable that contains a ratingname and a bit whether it is a positive or negative rating: Good 1 Bad 0 Fun 1 Boring 0 FeedbackTable that contains feedback on things...the person rating, the rating and the thing rated. The feedback can be determined if it's a positive or negative rating based on RatingsTable. Jim Chicken Good Jim Steak Bad Ted Waterskiing Fun Ted Hiking Fun Nancy Hiking Boring I am trying to write an efficient MySQL query for the following: On a page, I want to display the the top 'things' that have the highest proportional positive ratings. I want to be sure that the items from the feedback table are unique...meaning, that if Jim has rated Chicken Good 20 times...it should only be counted once. At some point I will want to require a minimum number of ratings (at least 10) to be counted for this page as well. I'll want to to do the same for highest proportional negative ratings, but I am sure I can tweak the one for positive accordingly.

    real quick question regarding HAProxy reqrep. I am trying to rewrite/replace the request that gets sent to the backend. I have the following example domain and URIs http://domain/web1 http://domain/web2 I want web1 to go to backend webfarm1, and web2 to go to webfarm2. Currently this does happen. However I want to strip off the web1 or web2 URI when the request is sent to the backend.   • Connectivity with SQL Server Express 2008 r2 and SQL Server 2000 on same machine

    At first glance this may same a duplicate of Installing both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2008 on the same machine, but it is not. I have SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on the same machine and working fine. My problem lies with connecting to the 2008 R2 server from a remote machine. My connectivity needs to be TCP. The legacy installation or SQL 2000 uses the default port of 1433. The named instance is by default configured to use 'Shared Memory' and is working fine. When I configured the 2008 R2 server to use 1433 (I did not think that thru) the service refused to start becasue 1433 was already in use by the legacy SQL 2000 default instance. Doh! What I want to do is have both servers available simultaneously via TCP. both servers need not be on the same port, put if I cannot run them on the same port, then how do I configure the clients? Is there not some kind of proxy available that can monitor the 1433 port and pass the request thru to the correct SQL instance by name? Is this capability built into SQL server already? Thanks, Jim

  • Converting a Windows 2003 server

    We have a legacy database system based upon MS SQL running on Windows Server 2003. The client software will only run on Windows XP. We have recently had success converting a client into a virtual machine and running it under Fusion on Mac minis. So far, it is working incredibly well. So well, in fact, that we are now considering trying to convert the server to a virtual machine. This raises several questions, though: 1. The server uses a raid array. Does the VM virtualize the raid array? I only ask because in my experience Windows products don't like it when you change core hardware. 2. Is there any reason why running SQL server on a virtual machine won't work? It will be up 24/7. 3. Is there a different converter for servers? 4. Will I have to track down the licensing for MS SQL and Server 2003 or will they come across ok? 5. The company that designed the software is no longer in business. There is some fear that the software is somehow tied to the hardware configuration. We bought the hardware, but their engineers came out and configured the system. Will the virtual machine be able to spoof particular chip sets? Thanks! Jim Bass

  • Remove duplicates from a sorted ArrayList while keeping some elements from the duplicates

    Okay at first I thought this would be pretty straightforward. But I can't think of an efficient way to solve this. I figured a brute force way to solve this but that's not very elegant. I have an ArrayList. Contacts is a VO class that has multiple members - name, regions, id. There are duplicates in ArrayList because different regions appear multiple times. The list is sorted by ID. Here is an example: Entry 0 - Name: John Smith; Region: N; ID: 1 Entry 1 - Name: John Smith; Region: MW; ID: 1 Entry 2 - Name: John Smith; Region: S; ID: 1 Entry 3 - Name: Jane Doe; Region: NULL; ID: 2 Entry 4 - Name: Jack Black; Region: N; ID: 3 Entry 6 - Name: Jack Black; Region: MW; ID: 3 Entry 7 - Name: Joe Don; Region: NE; ID: 4 I want to transform the list to below by combining duplicate regions together for the same ID. Therefore, the final list should have only 4 distinct elements with the regions combined. So the output should look like this:- Entry 0 - Name: John Smith; Region: N,MW,S; ID: 1 Entry 1 - Name: Jane Doe; Region: NULL; ID: 2 Entry 2 - Name: Jack Black; Region: N,MW; ID: 3 Entry 3 - Name: Joe Don; Region: NE; ID: 4 What are your thoughts on the optimal way to solve this?     I have a variable number of two-dimensional arrays. The first dimension is variable, the second dimension is constant. i.e.: Object[][] array0 = { {"tim", "sanchez", 34, 175.5, "bla", "blub", "[email protected]"}, {"alice", "smith", 42, 160.0, "la", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... }; Object[][] array1 = { {"john", "sdfs", 34, 15.5, "a", "bl", "[email protected]"}, {"joe", "smith", 42, 16.0, "a", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... }; ... Object[][] arrayi = ... I'm generating these arrays with a for-loop: for (int i = 0; i < filter.length; i++) { MyClass c = new MyClass(filter[i]); //data = c.getData(); } Where "filter" is another array which is filled with information that tells "MyClass" how to fill the arrays. "getData()" gives back one of the i number of arrays. Now I just need to have everything in one big two dimensional array. i.e.: Object[][] arrayComplete = { {"tim", "sanchez", 34, 175.5, "bla", "blub", "[email protected]"}, {"alice", "smith", 42, 160.0, "la", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... {"john", "sdfs", 34, 15.5, "a", "bl", "[email protected]"}, {"joe", "smith", 42, 16.0, "a", "bub", "[email protected]"}, ... ... }; In the end, I need a 2D array to feed my Swing TableModel. Any idea on how to accomplish this? It's blowing my mind right now.

  • Formatting the parent and child nodes of a Treeview that is populated by a XML file

    Hello Everyone, I'm very new to xml so I hope I'm not asking any silly question here. I'm currently working on populating a treeview from an XML file that is not hierarchically structured. In the xml file that I was given the child and parent nodes are defined within the attributes of the item element. How would I be able to utilize the attributes in order for the treeview to populate in the right hierarchical order. (Example Mary Jane should be a child node of Peter Smith).   • what is the point of heterogenous arrays?

    I know that more-dynamic-than-Java languages, like Python and Ruby, often allow you to place objects of mixed types in arrays, like so: ["hello", 120, ["world"]] What I don't understand is why you would ever use a feature like this. If I want to store heterogenous data in Java, I'll usually create an object for it. For example, say a User has int ID and String name. While I see that in Python/Ruby/PHP you could do something like this: [["John Smith", 000], ["Smith John", 001], ...] this seems a bit less safe/OO than creating a class User with attributes ID and name and then having your array: [<User: name="John Smith", id=000>, <User: name="Smith John", id=001>, ...] where those <User ...> things represent User objects. Is there reason to use the former over the latter in languages that support it? Or is there some bigger reason to use heterogenous arrays? N.B. I am not talking about arrays that include different objects that all implement the same interface or inherit from the same parent, e.g.: class Square extends Shape class Triangle extends Shape [new Square(), new Triangle()] because that is, to the programmer at least, still a homogenous array as you'll be doing the same thing with each shape (e.g., calling the draw() method), only the methods commonly defined between the two.

These transcripts have a very wide variety of formattings, so I can't always count on those nice parentheses being there, or the plaintiff and defendant information being neatly boxed off, e.g.: 1 SUPREME COURT OF THE STATE OF SOME OTHER STATE COUNTY OF COUNTYVILLE 2 First Judicial District Important Litigation 3 --------------------------------------------------X THIS DOCUMENT APPLIES TO: 4 JOHN SMITH, 5 Plaintiff, Index No. 2000-123 6 DEPOSITION 7 - against - UNDER ORAL EXAMINATION 8 OF JOHN SMITH, 9 Volume I 10 ACME CO, et al, 11 Defendants. 12 --------------------------------------------------X The two constants are: "Plaintiff" will occur after the name of the plaintiff(s), but not necessarily on the same line.   • Modify MySQL INSERT statement to omit the insertion of certain rows

    I'm trying to expand a little on a statement that I received help with last week. As you can see, I'm setting up a temporary table and inserting rows of student data from a recently administered test for a few dozen schools. When the rows are inserted, they are sorted by the score (totpct_stu, high to low) and the row_number is added, with 1 representing the highest score, etc. I've learned that there were some problems at school #9999 in SMITH's class (every student made a perfect score and they were the only students in the district to do so). So, I do not want to import SMITH's class. As you can see, I DELETED SMITH's class, but this messed up the row numbering for the remainder of student at the school (e.g., high score row_number is now 20, not 1). How can I modify the INSERT statement so as to not insert this class? Thanks!   • "The Server is not configured correctly" message while playing movie in iphone

    Hi All, I am trying to play video files from iPhone media player in my iphone application.I am reading the stream from one Media server. but i am getting error message as "The server is not configured correctly". Here is my observation: - I kept five different video files on server.(i am sure that all of these files are properly encoded and in right format.) - When i try to run same video URL in Mobile Safari i works perfectly without any error. - When i try to run any of video it doesn't create any stream on media server.(Usually when i try to play video it create stream on media server.but here the stream is not created on server side.) - I tried to play this files using Apple's sample application MoviePlayer but i am facing same issue.(Here i tried to run the application on Simulator) I also checked on my iphone 2G having OS 3.1.2 (jailbreak) but i face same issue.
