• How to manage two video cards on a laptop (ATI and Intel)?

  I have a laptop with two video cards. One ATI and on integrated Intel. On Windows, I can choose which video card I want to use. For example, I use the Intel card for normal use and for gaming, I switch to my ATI card for better performance, but a shorter battery life. In Ubuntu 10.10, only the Intel driver is installed, the ATI driver for my card doesn't work at all and there's heat coming out of my computer all the time, like when I'm playing video games on Windows. I think both cards are active, but only the Intel one is usefull. How can I solve this by making sure Ubuntu is aware of the two video cards and by disabling my ATI. Or may be I am all wrong about this?

• Physic engine for snooker/billard game

  I think most billard/snooker games have a lot of problems with their physic engines. They are far away from realistic and you can't really enjoy the game (especially when snooker is your hobby :) ) So I want to try to make an own physic engine (and own snooker game). I think the physic engine is the most important part of such a game. So my question is: Do anybody know an open physic enginge I can start with? Is there any literature about such physic problems?

• Wubi "could not retrieve the required disk image"

  I tried to download Ubuntu 12.04 through Windows Installer (Wubi), but I get this error message: An error occurred: Could not retrieve the required disk image For more information, please see the log file: c:\user(username)\adddata\local\temp\wubi-12.04-rev266.log I tried to locate the file, but I can't find it, it's probably hidden. I know there's already a similar question asked, but I don't understand proxy thing Downloading error "Could not retrieve the required disk image " I was wondering will I get this same problem if I download via USB stick or CD? I'm running Windows 7 on a laptop. I'm not tech-savvy, so I need clear answer please.

• Name user object and user table correctly

  It's maybe simple but I think about this every time I build a new application. How do you name the class for the current user of the application and for the orm class of the user table? Usually I have something like CurrentUser: Logged-in user, stored in session, info for last activity etc User: ORM Class (C# EF CodeFirst, but it doesn't matter) And yes, they could have the same name in different namespaces, but I don't really like that.

I'm just looking for information for a vanity domain, so obviously I'm alright without an answer, but it's an unasked question (or at least, unanswered), and I'm not exactly in a hurry to give my credit card information over country lines, sight unseen.

• /etc/profile not being sourced

  For 11.04, I did a fresh install of my system. Part of that install was to install rvm, which sticks a rvm.sh in /etc/profile.d/. This doesn't work as /etc/profile (which loads each +r in /etc/profile.d/*.sh) is not being loaded. According to the documentation, the profile is only sourced if bash is run in login. To verify this, I invoked bash --login, after which rvm was available. This has worked for me in previous versions of Ubuntu without any configuration. That is, a fresh install of 10.10 will correctly source profile/.d. My question is: is there anything I'm doing wrong, or are there some new assumptions being made in Natty that have broken this? My current workaround is to source /etc/profile in ~/.bashrc (which is awful as profile is meant to load before bashrc's, but does the trick).

  The group and I is in the middle of a semester project where we are currently researching on which game systems are using camera as input or as an interactive medium? We would like some help listing some of the game systems which uses camera input, as it seems hard to find other examples. Currently we know that webcam browser games uses camera input (Newgrounds webcam games), as well as the xbox kinect. I know this questions seems rather vague, though I still hope some people is capable of helping.

• How do I remove Deluge?

  OK I have had Ubuntu for a month now and have absolutely been loving it. I have been able to fix problems in the terminal etc. Until I downloaded Deluge. Deluge does not work and it is acting like a virus. I have tried all the recommendations I can find I have tried 5 or so different terminal commands and nothing works. I can no longer choose another torrent down loader like transmissions because it is no longer on the list when asked which program I want to use to download a torrent all I get is Deluge which is pretty lame since I have removed it like 5 different ways. I just want Deluge off of my computer how hard can it be? Someone help!!

• Unity: Assigning String value in inspector

  I got an issue with Unity I can't seem to comprehend, and it is possibly very simple: I am trying to write a simple piece of code in JavaScript where a button toggles the activation of a shield, by dragging a prefab with Resources.load("ActivateShieldPreFab") and destroying it again (Haven't implemented that yet). I wish to assign this button through the inspector, so I have created a string variable which appears as intended in the inspector. Though it doesn't seem to register the inspector input, even though I changed the value through the inspector. It only provides the error: "Input Key named: is unknown" When the button name is assigned within the code, there is no issues. • preseeded installation keeps asking for confirmation while creating RAID-Partitions on certain hardware-platform

  I am aware of the partman-md/confirm_nooverwrite thing, that was the solution to most of this problems in the past. The thing is, that the preseed-file works for almost all hardware-platforms I tested, but only for one (Primergy MX130) it keeps asking for confirmation, before writing the partition-layout to the disks. All machines I tested are running with two SATA Disks, nothing special. I'm not really sure, what information could be needed in order to investigate the cause of this behaviour, but I would of course be willing to provide more information, if someone has an idea. • Installing Ubuntu 64bit on Acer netbook causes black screen.

  Trying to install Ubuntu on an external usb 3 500 Gb hard-drive. I am using an Acer netbook. the specs are: amd c-60 1ghz with 4 Gb ram. I have a 64 bits windows 7 no2 installed. I downloaded the ubuntu-12.04.1-alternate-amd64 ISO and used the universal usb installer to install the Ubuntu When I reboot on the external hard drive, I have the language selection, then the menu...I choose to install...and I get a black flickering screen. and nothing more. Any suggestion?

• Depth is disabled - How to turn on?

  In XNA 3.1 is there any other way to disable depth in 3D Worlds using DirectX models other than GraphicsDevice.RenderState.DepthBufferEnable = false; ? The reason for my question is I have quite a huge program which offers a 3D World with a couple of 3D DirectX models inside. Depth was never an issue since it ever worked fine but since a few days after doing some modifications my models are all depth-translucent i.e. depth-buffering and/or culling seems to be disabled. But in my whole source code I never touch any of the options related to Depth or Culling which means I never turn these settings on explicitly nor turn it off somewhere. So I am searching for some other statement maybe related to the GraphicsDevice that implicitly turns depth off - but I can't find it. (Sorry that I don't post any source code but I have too much source code and I simply don't know where to search) UPDATE: These are a couple of simple objects seen with correct depth. These are the same objects in their current state.

• Has anyone had issues with Google Analyticator authenticating?

  I'm using Analyticator on a site and am having an issue. I am getting an error (see below) when I go to authenticate from the settings panel on Analyticator. The structure on this is a bit different and I think that's what is causing it. The website is on a subdomain which is hosted on a different server than the top-level domain. The analytics account on google only has the subdomain listed. Is it possible that the reason for the error is that the primary domain either: A. doesn't have an Analytics account or B. does have an Analytics account but it is not linked to the Analytics account of the subdomain? The page you have requested cannot be displayed. Another site was requesting access to your Google Account, but sent a malformed request. Please contact the site that you were trying to use when you received this message to inform them of the error. A detailed error message follows: The site "http://xxxxx.com" has not been registered.

• Rotate a vector

  I want my first-person camera to smoothly change its viewing direction from direction d1 to direction d2. The latter direction is indicated by a target position t2. So far I have implemented a rotation that works fine but the speed of the rotation slows down the closer the current direction gets to the desired one. This is what I want to avoid. • sqlite no such table

  can anyone please help. I've seen many people with the same problem and looked at all suggestions but still cannot get this to work. I have tried to unistall the application and install again, I have tried to change the version number and start again. I've debugged the code and it does go into the onCreate function, but when I go to make a select query it says the users table does not exist. Any help would greatly be appreciated.   After reading Paul Graham's essay Hackers and Painters and Joel Spolsky's Advice for Computer Science College Students, I think I've finally gotten it through my thick skull that I should not be loath to work hard in academic courses that aren't "programming" or "computer science" courses. To quote the former: I've found that the best sources of ideas are not the other fields that have the word "computer" in their names, but the other fields inhabited by makers. Painting has been a much richer source of ideas than the theory of computation. — Paul Graham, "Hackers and Painters" There are certainly other, much stronger reasons to work hard in the "boring" classes. However, it'd also be neat to know that these classes may someday inspire me in programming. My question is: what are some specific examples where ideas from literature, art, humanities, philosophy, and other fields made their way into programming? In particular, ideas that weren't obviously applied the way they were meant to (like most math and domain-specific knowledge), but instead gave utterance or inspiration to a program's design and choice of names. Good examples: The term endian comes from Gulliver's Travels by Tom Swift (see here), where it refers to the trivial matter of which side people crack open their eggs. The terms journal and transaction refer to nearly identical concepts in both filesystem design and double-entry bookkeeping (financial accounting). mkfs.ext2 even says: Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done Off-topic: Learning to write English well is important, as it enables a programmer to document and evangelize his/her software, as well as appear competent to other programmers online. Trigonometry is used in 2D and 3D games to implement rotation and direction aspects. Knowing finance will come in handy if you want to write an accounting package. Knowing XYZ will come in handy if you want to write an XYZ package. Arguably on-topic: The Monad class in Haskell is based on a concept by the same name from category theory. • Remote EJB lookup issue with WebSphere 6.1

  I've seen this question asked before, but I've tried various solutions proposed, to no avail. Essentially, I have two EJB enterprise applications, that need to communicate with one another. The first is a web application, the second is a search server - they are located on different development servers, not in the same node, cell, or JVM, although they are on the same physical box. I'm doing the JNDI lookup via IIOP, and the URL I am using is as follows: iiop://searchserver:2819 In my hosts file, I've set searchserver to 127.0.0.1. The ports for my search server are bound to this hostname too. However, when the web app (that uses Spring btw) attempts to lookup the search EJB, it fails with the following error. This is driving me nuts, surely this kind of comms between the servers should be fairly simple to get working. I've checked the ports and they are correct. I note that the exception says the initial context is H00723Node03Cell/nodes/H00723Node03/servers/server1, name: ejb/com/hmv/dataaccess/ejb/hmvsearch/HMVSearchHome. This is the web apps server NOT the search server. Is this correct? How can I get Spring to use the right context?
