    What's the most simple and semantic way of presenting code snippets in HTML? Possible XHTML syntax <a href="code_sample.php" type="text/x-php"> Example of widget creation </a> Example of linked file (code_sample.php): // Create a new widget $widget = new widget(); Pros: Semantically uses title to describe the source code being referenced Up to the client to render snippet Having very many custom server-side implementations tells me it should be standardized Browsers can have plug-ins for copy+paste, download, etc Seems to me this is where it belongs (not in Javascript) Degradation: non-compliant browsers receive a link to the associated content Cons: Not semantic enough? Seems wrong to replace hyperlinks with source code for presentation <object> might be better, but wouldn't degrade as nicely. Background I'm trying to create a "personal" XHTML standard for storing notes (wow, this is probably among the nerdiest things I've said). Since notes are just "scratch" it needs to be very lightweight. SO's markdown is very lightweight but not semantic enough for my needs. Plus, now I'm just curious. What's the most ideal syntax for linking to client-rendered code-snippets?

    Hello, Just a quick question to see if anyone knows of any jquery tabs plugins that run based on a similar structure to: <div class="tabs"> <div> <h4>Tab one</h4> <p>Lorem Ipsum</p> </div> <div> <h4>Tab two</h4> <p>Lorem Ipsum</p> </div> </div> Where the plugin grabs the title of the tabs from the h4s? I can only seem to find plugins that use the structure: <div id="tabs"> <ul> <li><a href="#tabs-1">Nunc tincidunt</a></li> <li><a href="#tabs-2">Proin dolor</a></li> <li><a href="#tabs-3">Aenean lacinia</a></li> </ul> <div id="tabs-1"> <p>Tab 1 content</p> </div> <div id="tabs-2"> <p>Tab 2 content</p> </div> <div id="tabs-3"> <p>Tab 3 content</p> </div> </div> I assume the only other way to use these plugins would be to grab the titles, remove them, add them into a list at the top of the html and then run the plugin based on that?   • Why is the meaning of “ours” and “theirs” reversed with git-svn

    I use git-svn and I noticed that when I have to fix a merge conflict after performing a git svn rebase, the meaning of the --ours and --theirs options to e.g. git checkout is reversed. That is, if there's a conflict and I want to keep the version that came from the SVN server and throw away the changes I made locally, I have to use ours, when I would expect it to be theirs. Why is that?   • Extending the .NET type system so the compiler enforces semantic meaning of primitive values in cert

    I'm working with geometry a bit at the moment and am converting a lot between degrees and radians. Unfortunately, both of these are represented by double, so there's compile time warning/error if I try to pass a value in degrees where radians are expected. I believe F# has a compile-time solution for this (called units of measure.) I'd like to do something similar in C#. As another example, imagine a SQL library that accepts various query parameters as strings. It'd be good to have a way of enforcing that only clean strings were allowed to be passed in at runtime, and the only way to get a clean string was to pass through some SQL injection attack preventing logic. The obvious solution is to wrap the double/string/whatever in a new type to give it the type information the compiler needs. I'm curious if anyone has an alternative solution. If you do think wrapping is the only/best way, then please go into some of the downsides of the pattern (and any upsides I haven't mentioned too.) I'm especially concerned about the performance of abstracted primitive numeric types on my calculations at runtime.

    I am looking for a method to build a hierarchy of words. Background: I am a "amateur" natural language processing enthusiast and right now one of the problems that I am interested in is determining the hierarchy of word semantics from a group of words. For example, if I have the set which contains a "super" representation of others, i.e. [cat, dog, monkey, animal, bird, ... ] I am interested to use any technique which would allow me to extract the word 'animal' which has the most meaningful and accurate representation of the other words inside this set. Note: they are NOT the same in meaning. cat != dog != monkey != animal BUT cat is a subset of animal and dog is a subset of animal. I know by now a lot of you will be telling me to use wordnet. Well, I will try to but I am actually interested in doing a very domain specific area which WordNet doesn't apply because: 1) Most words are not found in Wordnet 2) All the words are in another language; translation is possible but is to limited effect. another example would be: [ noise reduction, focal length, flash, functionality, .. ] so functionality includes everything in this set. I have also tried crawling wikipedia pages and applying some techniques on td-idf etc but wikipedia pages doesn't really do much either. Can someone possibly enlighten me as to what direction my research should go towards? (I could use anything)

    Hi All, This may be very obvious question, pardon me if so. I have below code snippet out of my project, #include <stdio.h> class X { public: int i; X() : i(0) {}; }; int main(int argc,char *arv[]) { X *ptr = new X[10]; unsigned index = 5; cout<<ptr[index].i<<endl; return 0; } Question Can I change the meaning of the ptr[index] ? Because I need to return the value of ptr[a[index]] where a is an array for subindexing. I do not want to modify existing source code. Any new function added which can change the behavior is needed. Since the access to index operator is in too many places (536 to be precise) in my code, and has complex formulas inside the index subscript operator, I am not inclined to change the code in many locations. PS : 1. I tried operator overload and came to conclusion that it is not possible. 2. Also p[i] will be transformed into *(p+i). I cannot redefine the basic operator '+'. So just want to reconfirm my understanding and if there are any possible short-cuts to achieve. Else I need fix it by royal method of changing every line of code :) .

    Ok, I am back on this task. I have my XML properly download from my webserver with a URL pointing to the server's file, however, when I detect the network is 'unreachable' I simply point the URL to my application's local XML and I get the following error (N.B. the file is a direct copy of the one on the server). I cannot find detail description, but I think it is saying that the URL is pointing to an inaccessible location. Am I storing this resource in the wrong location? I think I want it in the HomeDirectory / Library??     I created user 'restriceduser' on my mysql server that is 'locked down'. The mysql.user table has a N for all priveledges for that account. The mysql.db table has Y for only Select, Insert, Update, Delete, Create, Drop; all other privileges are N for that account. I tried to create a stored procedure and then grant him access to run only that procedure, no others, but it does not work. The user receives: Error: execute command denied to user 'restricteduser'@'%' for routine 'mydb.functionname' The stored procedure: CREATE DEFINER = 'restriceduser'@'%' FUNCTION `functionname`(sIn MEDIUMTEXT, sformat MEDIUMTEXT) RETURNS int(11) NOT DETERMINISTIC CONTAINS SQL SQL SECURITY DEFINER COMMENT '' BEGIN .... END; The grant statement I tried: GRANT EXECUTE ON PROCEDURE mydb.functionname TO 'restricteduser'@'%'; I was able to work around by modifying his mysql.db entry with update mysql.db set execute_priv='Y' where user='restricteduser' This seems to be more then I want, because it opens up permissions for him to run any stored procedure in that database, while I only wanted him to have permissions to run the designated function. Does anyone see where my issue may lie?
