  • Simplest solution to replace a tiny file inside an MSI?

    Many of our customers have access to InstallShield, WISE or AdminStudio. These aren't a problem. I'm hoping there is some way I can provide our smaller customers without access to commercial repackaging tools a freely available set of tools and steps to do the file replacement themselves. Only need to replace a single configuration file inside a compressed MSI, the target user can be assumed to already have Orca installed, know how to use this to customize the Property table (to embed license details for GPO deployment) and have generated an MST file. Disclaimer: this is very similar to another question but both questions and answers in that thread are not clear.

  • iPhone Internationalization. What is the simplest workflow for me?

    Hello, I am wising up and getting my internationalization act together. Right off the bat I am a bit swamped by all the docs Apple provides so I was wondering of someone could sketch a workflow for my situation. Before I begin, I browsed some Apple example code and noticed this NIB file - MainWindow.xib - in the Resources folder: This clearly has something to do with internationalization/localization. Could someone please explain how this is created and where in the workflow it happens? My app is fundamentally an imaging app with a few labels that I currently programmatically internationalize using NSLocalizedString(...). If I set all my labels programmatically and wrap all my strings with NSLocalizedString(...) can I completely ignore the NIB issues? Thanks in advance, Doug

  • In Google App Engine, what is the simplest way to keep a record of items that you have put into memc

    I am starting to use memcache more frequently to avoid having to recalculate things between page requests. When the memcache periodically clears, as it is designed to do, I have to start all over rebuilding various items that I have placed in memcache. What I would like to do is create a very simple model that enables me to periodically save the items that I put into memcache based on the memcache keys that I'm using along with a datetime that is related to the data being memcached. What is the best way to do this?     If I want to inject a globally scoped array variable into a page's client-side javascript during a full page postback, I can use: this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterArrayDeclaration("WorkCalendar", "\"" + date.ToShortDateString() + "\""); to declare and populate a client-side javascript array on the page. Nice and simple. But I want to do the same from a async postback from an UpdatePanel. The closest I can figure so far is to create a .js file that just contains the var declaration, update the file during the async postback, and then use a ScriptManagerProxy.Scripts.Add to add the .js file to the page's global scope. Is there anything simpler? r iz doin it wrong?

    I've seen simple examples of rendering a Zend_Form using decorators, but I'm not sure they are able to handle the issue I'm facing very well. I query the database and get an array of user objects. I want to display these users as a form, with a radio button next to each of them and a submit button at the bottom of the page.   • What is the simplest method to fill the area under a geom_freqpoly line?

    The x-axis is time broken up into time intervals. There is an interval column in the data frame that specifies the time for each row. The column is a factor, where each interval is a different factor level. Plotting a histogram or line using geom_histogram and geom_freqpoly works great, but I'd like to have a line, like that provided by geom_freqpoly, with the area filled. Currently I'm using geom_freqpoly like this: ggplot(quake.data, aes(interval, fill=tweet.type)) + geom_freqpoly(aes(group = tweet.type, colour = tweet.type)) + opts(axis.text.x=theme_text(angle=-60, hjust=0, size = 6)) I would prefer to have a filled area, such as provided by geom_density, but without smoothing the line: UPDATE: The geom_area has been suggested, is there any way to use a ggplot2-generated statistic, such as ..count.., for the geom_area's y-values? Or, does the count aggregation need to occur prior to using ggplot2?

    Hi, If I wanted to have my data in SQL Server, but wanted to use a thick client WinForms application for users, what would be the best practice way to have calls occurring from WinForms to database? And how simple is this? I guess I'm trying to gauge to what extent there are issues with this approach and one needs to go for some (a) middle tier with web services, or (b) have to go asp.net or something.   • What is the Simplest Possible Payment Gateway to Implement? (using Django)

    I'm developing a web application that will require users to either make one time deposits of money into their account, or allow users to sign up for recurring billing each month for a certain amount of money. I've been looking at various payment gateways, but most (if not all) of them seem complex and difficult to get working. I also see no real active Django projects which offer simple views for making payments. Ideally, I'd like to use something like Amazon FPS, so that I can see online transaction logs, refund money, etc., but I'm open to other things. I just want the EASIEST possible payment gateway to integrate with my site. I'm not looking for anything fancy, whatever does the job, and requires < 10 hours to get working from start to finish would be perfect. I'll give answer points to whoever can point out a good one.   • Simplest way to mix sequences of types with iostreams?

    I have a function void write<typename T>(const T&) which is implemented in terms of writing the T object to an ostream, and a matching function T read<typename T>() that reads a T from an istream. I am basically using iostreams as a plain text serialisation format, which obviously works fine for most built-in types, although I'm not sure how to effectively handle std::strings just yet. I'd like to be able to write out a sequence of objects too, eg void write<typename T>(const std::vector<T>&) or an iterator based equivalent (although in practice, it would always be used with a vector). However, while writing an overload that iterates over the elements and writes them out is easy enough to do, this doesn't add enough information to allow the matching read operation to know how each element is delimited, which is essentially the same problem that I have with a single std::string. Is there a single approach that can work for all basic types and std::string? Or perhaps I can get away with 2 overloads, one for numerical types, and one for strings? (Either using different delimiters or the string using a delimiter escaping mechanism, perhaps.)

  • Simplest way to create a wrapper class around some strings for a WPF DataGrid?

    I'm building a simple hex editor in C#, and I've decided to use each cell in a DataGrid to display a byte*. I know that DataGrid will take a list and display each object in the list as a row, and each of that object's properties as columns. I want to display rows of 16 bytes each, which will require a wrapper with 16 string properties. While doable, it's not the most elegant solution. Is there an easier way? I've already tried creating a wrapper around a public string array of size 16, but that doesn't seem to work. Thanks *The rational for this is that I can have spaces between each byte without having to strip them all out when I want to save my edited file. Also it seems like it'll be easier to label the rows and columns.

  • What would be the simplest way to deal with a text file using JSP?

    First and foremost I should acknowledge that I have no experience at all using Java ServerPages, but I'm positive about achieving this task if you guys help me out a bit since it doesn't seem like something difficult for a seasoned JSP programmer. Anyway the thing is, there's an actual running JSP application within a *NIX box which I somewhat administer with kind of good permissions. The idea is to create a new but dead simple JSP page to control some Korn Shell scripts I've got running there. So the goal is to make some sort of HTML form that will be writing some kind of scriptStatus.on / scriptStatus.off file: #!usr/bin/ksh # coolScript.sh # This is my cool script that is being launched by cron every 10 minutes. if [ -e scriptStatus.off ] then # monitor disabled else # monitor enabled fi which then can be checked for existence within the running script, therefore allowing to easily activate / deactivate it without actually have do deal with cron. Please let me know if all this does make any sense and don't hesitate to ask as much questions as needed. Thanks much in advance!

  • Strange Access Denied warning when running the simplest C++ program.

    I am just starting to learn C++ (coming from a Java background) and I have come across something that I can't explain. I am working through the C++ Primer book and doing the exercises. Every time I get to a new exercise I create a new .cpp file and set it up with the main method (and any includes I think I will need) e.g.: #include <list> #include <vector> int main(int argc, char **args) { } and just to make sure I go to the command prompt and compile and run: g++ whatever.cpp a.exe Normally this works just fine and I start working on the exercise, but I just did it and got a strange error. It compiles fine, but when I run it it says Access Denied and AVG pops up telling me that a threat has been detected 'Trojan Horse Generic 17.CKZT'. I tried compiling again using the Microsoft Compiler (cl.exe) and it runs fines. So I went back, and added: #include <iostream> compiled using g++ and ran. This time it worked fine. So can anyone tell me why AVG would report an empty main method as a trojan horse but if the iostream header is included it doesn't?

    Constant height so just left/right images should be necessary instead of having 4+, right? I'd still want top-to-bottom color gradient (and different one on hover). If possible, I'd prefer if it was still an <input type='submit'> and not anything weird. Is there any way (website / imagemagick script etc.) to generate these images automatically or do I need to draw them in some graphics program?

As I understand OOP (in PHP and in general) I could write a child class that extends it and overrides the functionality of the methods in question.
