Will Hotmail DELIVER to spam-friendly ISP?

I have a user who is using Hotmail to communicate with one of our suppliers. Recently, Hotmail started bouncing emails to that address (while other ISPs are working fine.) Hotmail bounce messages contain very little details. Investigating, I found that the supplier's ISP has appeared on a blacklist of ISPs who do not do enough to prevent spamming from their users. (Note: Neither my user nor the supplier are mass-mailing.) In the circumstances, I can understand Hotmail declining to accept emails from the host, or accepting them but being quick to mark them as spam. However, I am surprised that they might refuse delivery. Does this sound plausible to you, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

What are some potential issues in blocking all incoming requests from the Amazon cloud?

Recently I, along with the rest of the world, have seen a significant increase in what appears to be scraping from Amazon AWS-related sources. So simply put, I blocked all incoming requests from the Amazon cloud for our hosted application. I know that some good services/bots are now hosted on the cloud, and I'm wondering if certain IP addresses should be allowed, as they may gather data that would in the end benefit our site's SEO rankings? -- UPDATE -- I added a feature to block requests from the following hosts: Amazon Softlayer ServerDeals GigAvenue Since then, I have seen my network traffic decrease (monitored by network out bytes). Average operation is around 10,000,000 bytes. You can see where last week I was not blocking, then started blocking. I've since removed the blocks and will see what the outcome is.

How to block spam site republishing my content

I noticed today that Google search results shows some spam copies of one of my sites. The url looks something like this: http://[subdomain].spamsite.com/www.example.com ...where example.com is my site. In my Apache access logs I'm noticing several lines like the following whenever I load the above url: 127.0.0.1 - - [219/Oct/2012:19:27:34 +0000] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 - "-" "Apache (internal dummy connection)" The spammer's site shows an exact up to date copy of my site, so I think they are pulling in live data. Any idea how I can block this traffic?

Preventing my postfix to send my local users spam

I have a postfix/dovecot mail server with 100 different users. When they send an email they need to be authenticated. I successfully use saslauth to achieve this. Few days ago I had a problem. One specific user, probably with a virus or a spam-bot installed in its computer, started to send out through my server thousands of emails in few hours. As result, my ip has been blocked by many isp provider (@aol, @yahoo, and others) and has been listed in many blacklist, making all my 100 users unable to send any email to anyone. What is the best practice to avoid this problem? It would be great if my server could recognize a spamming user and automatically block it. Also, have a limit of, say, 30 emails per hour could be a partial solution. Any idea how to face this problem? Thank you

Someone used my postfix smtp (port 25) to send spam mails to me

This week, someone started to send spam-mails through my postfix-smtp access (I verified by logging in through telnet from an arbitrary pc and sending mails with any ids myself) on my server, with recipient and target being [email protected]. Since I have a catchall and mail-fowarding to my google account, I received all those (many) mails. After a lot of configuration (I lost track of what change did what, going through dozends of topics here and over the net) that hole seems fixed. Still, what hapened? Does port 25 need to be open and accepting for my catchall to work? What configuration did I do wrong? I remember the first thing I changed (that had an effect) was the inet_interface setting in main.cf, only later to find out that if this does not say "all", my mail to mydomain.com does not get forwarded any more.

How to report spam to blacklists

Is there a central place to report spam to various blacklists ? I regularly report to spamcop, but I do not see the addresses I reported as listed. (I guess nobody else bothers with my regular spammer. After being frustrated with bayes and spammcop, I blocked its /24 subnet) Spamcop is only a single service. I want to make the spammer known to a large number of services, and hopefully blocked by many of them. I looked for some other blacklists to report to, but the ones I looked do not consider user submissions (or they hide it well)

Blocking requests from specific IPs using IIS Rewrite module

I'm trying to block a range of IP that is sending tons of spam to my blog. I can't use the solution described here because it's a shared hosting and I can't change anything to the server configuration. I only have access to a few options in Remote IIS. I see that the URL Rewrite module has an option to block requests, so I tried to use it. My rule is as follows in web.config: <rule name="BlockSpam" enabled="true" stopProcessing="true"> <match url=".*" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{REMOTE_ADDR}" pattern="10\.0\.146\.23[0-9]" ignoreCase="false" /> </conditions> <action type="CustomResponse" statusCode="403" /> </rule> Unfortunately, if I put it at the end of the rewrite rules, it doesn't seem to block anything... and if I put it at the start of the list, it blocks everything! It looks like the condition isn't taken into account. In the UI, the stopProcessing option is not visible and is true by default. Changing it to false in web.config doesn't seem to have any effect. I'm not sure what to do now... any ideas?

Yahoo marked my mail as spam and says domainkey fails

Hi Yahoo is marking our mail as spam. We are using PHP Zend framework to send the mail. Mail header says that Domain Key is failed. Authentication-Results: mta160.mail.in.yahoo.com from=mydomain.com; domainkeys=fail (bad sig); from=mydomain.com; dkim=pass (ok) We configured our SMTP server (Same server used to send mail from zend framework.) in outlook and send the mail to yahoo. This time yahoo says domainkeys is pass. Authentication-Results: mta185.mail.in.yahoo.com from=speedgreet.com; domainkeys=pass (ok); from=speedgreet.com; dkim=pass (ok) Domainkey is added in mail header on our server which is used by both outlook client and PHP client. yahoo recognize the mail which is sent from outlook and yahoo does not recognize the mail from PHP client. As far as I know, Signing the email is done on the server side with help of domain key. PHP and Outlook uses the same server to sign the mail. But why yahoo handling differently? What I am missing here? Any Idea? Can anyone help me?

Missing X-Spam-Status header

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (trusty) and have followed the directions in https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/mail-filtering.html and am sending and receiving mail just fine. While I do see X-Virus-Scanned headers in my messages, which suggests mail is indeed being processed, I do not see any X-Spam-Level or X-Spam-Score headers being added to messages. This makes downstream procmailrc and client-side filtering ...more difficult. While having $final_spam_destiny = D_DISCARD in /etc/amavis/conf.d/20-debian_defaults does greatly reduce spam to my inbox, I had concerns of false-positives prior to tuning and didn't know were there going, so have set it to D_PASS for the time being. This exposed the problem. I'm not sure where to look to start diagnosing the problem (otherwise I'd post a suspect configuration file). /etc/amavis/conf.d/15-content_filter_mode has the lines uncommented to enable virus and spam checks, and virus checking appears to be working according to the headers. Spam Assassin certainly seems to be starting just fine, too. SpamAssassin debug facilities: info SA info: zoom: able to use 360/360 'body_0' compiled rules (100%) SpamAssassin loaded plugins: AskDNS, AutoLearnThreshold, Bayes, BodyEval, Check, DKIM, DNSEval, FreeMail, HTMLEval, HTTPSMismatch, Hashcash, HeaderEval, ImageInfo, MIMEEval, MIMEHeader, Pyzor, Razor2, RelayEval, ReplaceTags, Rule2XSBody, SPF, SpamCop, URIDNSBL, URIDetail, URIEval, VBounce, WLBLEval, WhiteListSubject SpamControl: init_pre_fork on SpamAssassin done I've also set $log_level = 2; in /etc/amavis/conf.d/50-user and don't see any obvious errors rolling by in the logs. GMail suspects confirmation email in stealing personal information

When user registers on my web site, web site sends user email confirmation link. Subject: Please confirm your email address Body:Please open this link in your browser to confirm your email address: http://www.postjobfree.com/a/c301718062444f96ba0e358ea833c9b3 This link will expire on: 6/9/2012 8:04:07 PM EST. If my web site sends that email to GMaill (either @gmail.com or another domain that's handled by Google Apps) and that user never emailed to email -- then GMail not only puts the email to spam folder, but also adds prominent red warning:Be careful with this message. Similar messages were used to steal people's personal information. Unless you trust the sender, don't click links or reply with personal information. Learn more That warning really scares many of my users, so they are afraid to open that link and confirm their email. What can I do about it? Ideally I would like that message end up in user's inbox, not spam folder. But at least how do I prevent that scary message? Does ip blocking occur anywhere other than at the endpoints?

My localhost's IP address/port is being blocked from accessing a certain site. The blocking is occurring, but I don't know where. The question is : does IP blocking possibly occur not only at the endpoint, but also at any intermediate server along the way? Take a tracert, for example. Could the IP blocking be possibly occuring at any server whatsoever along the tracert path, or can the blocking only be done at the endpoints?

Hi guys, I am implementing Naive Bayesian classifier for spam filtering. I have doubt on some calculation. Please clarify me what to do. Here is my question. In this method, you have to calculate P(S|W) - Probability that Message is spam given word W occurs in it. P(W|S) - Probability that word W occurs in a spam message. P(W|H) - Probability that word W occurs in a Ham message. So to calculate P(W|S), should I do (1) (Number of times W occuring in spam)/(total number of times W occurs in all the messages) OR (2) (Number of times word W occurs in Spam)/(Total number of words in the spam message) So, to calculate P(W|S), should I do (1) or (2)? (I thought it to be (2), but I am not sure, so plz clarify me) I am refering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayesian_spam_filtering for the info by the way. And lets say, in spam messages word W occurs 5 times in each message and word W occurs 1 time in Ham message. So total number of times W occuring in all the spam message = 5*50 = 250 times. And total number of times W occuring in all Ham messages = 1*50 = 50 times. Total occurance of W in all of the training messages = (250+50) = 300 times. So, in this scenario, how do u calculate P(W|S) and P(W|H) ? Naturally we should expect, P(W|S) P(W|H)??? right. Please share your thought...

Non Blocking Keyboard on WinCE accessing the virtual keyboard

Hello Guys, I am desperately looking for a solution that enables me to read keyboard events in a non blocking way. These Keyboard events are generated by a VIRTUAL KEYBOARD that comes with the WinCE device. I have a console application running in C++, where the user is asked to navigate via 'ESC', 'U' and other characters through the menu. I first tried to use fread and stdin and realised that it is blocking call and waits for a carriage return. Then I tried to hook up to the windows message WM_KEYUP, but I never recieve this windows message. Furthermore I tried to use QtGUI together with the event QKeyEvent, but I never recieve any event. I wonder if it is in general possible to recieve non-blocking keyboard events on a WinCE device. I would be glad if you have any suggestions! Cheers, Jan

All comments get marked as spam regardless (Wordpress MU)

Everyone (besides me) who comments on another persons blog gets marked as spam when they comment on other peoples blogs. When they comment on their own its fine. Might be related, I've installed reCaptcha and have disabled it for logged in users yet everyone who is logged in still sees it, I don't, and incidentally my comments don't get marked as spam. I don't have akismet or hashcash or any other form of spam filtering turned out (with the exception of super captcha for registration). Any idea what's wrong or where I should look first?

Gmail and Live are making all messages from my server as spam.

I'm getting very weird results here. When my server sends an email to my @hotmail or @gmail account, it's marked as spam. When I send email through my server from Outlook to @hotmail, it doesn't get marked as spam, but it still gets marked as spam in gmail. They seem to get through fine on Yahoo though. My servers hostname A record points to an IP address whose PTR record points back to the same domain name. The TXT record has a SPF record in it to allow email to be sent from that servers IP. I moved from a VPS to a Dedicated server when this started to happen. From what I can see, the email headers are identical. Here's one of my email headers that gmail marks as spam. Some fields were repalced. MYGMAILACCOUNT is the email address of the account the email was addressed to. All mail from my new Zimbra mail server is going into spam and junk folder of Yahoo or Hotmail. Any suggestion to deliver them direct into inbox? Below is the header part of my mail from yahoo... Moving automatically spam messages to a folder in Postfix

Hi My problem is that I want to automatically to move spam messages to a folder and not sure how. I have a linux box giving email access. MTA is Postfix, IMAP is Courier. As webmail client I use Squirrelmail. To filter SPAM I use Spamassassin and is working ok. Spamassasin is overwriting subjects with [--- SPAM 14.3 ---] Viagra... postfix mail server and spam

Hi, I have a postfix mail server for our firm. The mails sent from this server to gmail and yahoo goes in spam. The postfix is configured on our server and it has never been used for spamming. Everything is configured as is should. The server works fine, the headers are as they should be. What should I do in order the messages not to go in spam ? Regards
