  • Help needed in installing Snow Leopard on Macbook air

    So. I tried partition my disk using Disk Utility for loading the operating system in the partition drive and installing it. But partition failed, and I could not do that. I tried Remote OSX install from another computer, my MBA crashes with error Hold Power Button to shutdown I dont have a super drive or 8 gigs hard disk. Could someone suggest me some way to install Snow Leopard OSX on my Macbook air ? Thanks !

  • Windows System Recovery: Is it needed?

    Hello, I just recently deactivated system recovery on Vista, which saved me a huge amount of space. But I wonder is it necessary to have it activated? I can't remember that I any time had any use of system recovery anyway. And since it is Microsoft it probably would do a sloppy job anyway or? This question is for Windows XP, Vista, and 7. Do you have it activated? You can leave a comment if you have any opinion about the system recovery

  • hudson/jenkins: help needed to get started with customization work

    I'm would to customize jenkins by adding links to the left hand side panel and use the pages associated with these links to serve some custom content in place of the jobs/views table displayed by default. I managed to add links to the side-bar using the sidebar-links plugin. Now I'm trying to see how to replace the content of the <td id="main-panel"> element with some custom content. The custom content is generated by some PHP scripts which ideally should be called by hudson every time the custom pages are requested, though if too complicated I can either create static content to be served by jenkins by calling my PHP scripts in a crontab or see if calls to the PHP scripts can be done by apache itself before the page requests are sent to jenkins. I'm not sure writing a plugin is the best way to proceed and I would like to have your thoughts as to how you think I should implement this.

  • What's needed in a complete ASP.NET environment?

    We have a ASP3.0 application with a few ASP.NET (2.0) dittys mixed in. (Our longtime goal is to migrate everything to ASP.NET but that's not important for this issue) Our current test/deploy workflow is like this: 1 Use notepad++ or VS2008 to fix a bug/feature (depending on what I have open) 2 Open my virtual test-server 3 Copy the fixed file over, either with explorer, or if I can be bothered to open it, WinMerge 4 Test that the fix works 5 Close the virtual test-server 6 Connect to our host with VPN 7 Use WinMerge to update the files necessary 8 Pray to higher powers that the production environment is not so different that something bombs. To make things worse, only I have access to my "test-server". So I'm the only one testing it. I really want to make this a bit more robust, I even have a subversion setup running. But I always forget to commit changes... And I don't even work in my checked out folder, but a copy of what is currently in production... Can someone recommend some good reading on deploying, testing, staging and stuff like that. I currently use VS2008 and want to use subversion or GIT (or any other free VCS). Since I'm the only developer, teamsystem is not really an option (cost-related). I have found myself developing an "improved" feature, only to find a bug in the same feature in the production system. And since my "improved" feature incorporated deleting some old functionality, I have to fix bugs directly in production... That's not a fun feeling... (I have inherited this system recently... So it's not directly my fault that it is like this ;) )

  • Compiling linux kernel, how much size is needed?

    Hello, I am have downloaded the newest most stable linux kernel 2.6.33.2 I thought I would test this using virtualbox. So I create a dynamically sized harddisk of 4gb. And installed CentOS 5.3 with just the minimum packages. I setup the make menuconfig with just the default settings. There are two lists, one list just has one column and the other has two columns, and what I am trying to do is when column A matches column C than take the value in column D and use that to replace column A.     I am having a hard time finding help desk software that allows for drop down hyperlink selection during ticket creation. The situation is that we do external support for client systems and connect via remotely anywhere or logmein. Right now we use a poorly modified php based system that has a customer drop down menu and then a site drop down list that is then parsed by a bit of java script which opens a url. What I am looking for is the ability to store customer site URL information in the database and during the creation of a ticket be able to select the customer name and then select the site there by placing the corresponding site URL in the ticket. The support tech will then be able to click on this link to access the customer's site. Has anyone used or seen help desk software with this feature?

  • USB Flash drive corrupt files - Help needed

    I have a 16gb usb flash drive with 8gb worth of data that I can't afford to lose. When I inserted it into my pc, inside the folder that I was storing the data I saw unintelligible characters and nothing in there would open. I ran, windows scandisk and the files (unfortunately) disappeared. I can see that the drive's space still appears to be taken up with data, about 8gb. What should I do to recover it? Is it possible?   • Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center Needed for Keyboard but Doesn't Support Mouse

    I recently built a new computer (running Win7 Pro 64-bit) that includes the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard. To make use of all the extra features of this keyboard I need the Mouse and Keyboard Center. I just ran Windows Update for the first time on this system and the Mouse and Keyboard Center was included in the update. I'm left-handed and before the update I had the mouse set up for lefty use. Now after the update, it's been set to righty use and the original mouse control panel applet no longer allows the assignment of buttons. For that there's a link to the Mouse and Keyboard Center which does not support my oldish mice. (I have an IntelliMouse Optical and a Creative Mouse Lite Pro.) So I need the new utility for my keyboard, but I have to be right-handed to use my mouse? Really! I tried changing HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse\SwapMouseButtons to 1, but a reboot set it back to 0. Is there some way I can change my mouse back to left-handed? Thanx -eljay

    Riddle me this: You have 3 part numbers with the same part name xyz, each with a quantity of 10 items. The items can be picked during the day or week, therefore changing the amount of items on hand. I know I need to use the group by, sort, count and perhaps sumif formulas to have a running count of the number of items on hand at the end of each day (which could be positive or negative).   • MySql calculate number of connections needed

    I am trying to figure my needs regarding web service hosting. After trying Azure I have realized that the default MySql they provide (through a third party) limits the account to 4 connections. You can then upgrade the account to 15, 30 or 40 connections (which is quite expensive). Their 15 connections plan is descirbed as: "Excellent choice for light test and staging apps that need a reliable MySQL database". I have 2 questions: if my application is a web service which needs to preform ~120k Queries a day (Normal/BELL distribution) and each query is ~150ms(duration)/~400ms(fetch), how many connection do I need? If instead of using cloud computing, I will choose a VPS, how many connections will I be able to handle on a 1GB 2 cores VPS? Thank you!

  • Major permission repair needed on Mac Os

    I made the fatal error of copying and pasting a sudo command into my terminal without double checking it, here it is. sudo -R mysql / What this does (for those that don't know) is recursively change the owner every file from the root down to mysql!! obviously not what i was intending This has of course played havoc with my system, the first thing i did was the apple permission repair but that only works for files that it has an idea of though it has changed a lot of file ownerships back to root. It seems that many library files are still owned incorrectly, as a lot of problems don't work. What i propose doing as a temporary fix until i can reinstall mountain lion is to recursively set all ownerships that are mysql to Luke. I'm not sure what they should precisely but this is still better than nothing. Is this possible using a shell script? I realise that this won't fix the problem properly and i will have to reformat but i need the machine in a workable state just for this week.

    When running under a limited account, local event log messages are displaying fine, for remote computer I am getting this error: The description for Event ID ( xxxxx ) in Source ( yyyyy ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: zzzzz. Same remote computer works fine under domain administrator. I am currently experimenting with just the Event Viewer, by using Run As. Original issue is a PowerShell script which does Get-EventLog. Are there any special permissions that need to be in place to able to read event log messages remotely? Supposedly there is a simple solution in Windows 2008 and higher, i.e. just add user to Event Log Readers group. Is there anything like that for Windows 2003?

  • SharePoint 2010 MySites - Simple explanation needed!

    I've been playing around with the 2010 beta for a couple of weeks, experimenting with topology options etc. I think I've got myself totally confused as to how it works hence if there's any SP experts out there that can explain things in simple terms for me I'd appreciate it! I want to setup a farm with 3 servers providing the content & MySites. I presume that the way to do this is to load balance or DNS round robin traffic between the 3 servers. The bit where I'm confused is that My Site Settings page asks for a specific My Site Host hence all my site traffic will be pushed to a single server even though we have 3 in the farm. If this hosts fails I presume MySites will be unavailable. Is this right? How do I configure it so that access to MySites is load balanced across the 3 servers in the farm?
