  I was just wondering how most people fetch a mime type from a file in Java? So far I've tried two utils: JMimeMagic & Mime-Util. The first gave me memory exceptions, the second doesn't close its streams off properly. I was just wondering if anyone else had a method/library that they used and worked correctly?

In that, users are uploading files and I want to report on a perotic basis how many bytes have been read/received so far. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I might do this...   Hey all, I'm working on a project and I'm wondering how to get a type of window common in Windows's wireless controls, as shown in the screen shot below: http://cybernetnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/windows-7-wireless.jpg There's no close or maximize buttons, but the border is still present.   Hi, Is there no way for javascript hosted on a webserver to read a file on a client's local machine? (this has obvious security risks). I guess I'm wondering if there's any access granting a user can do, like drag and dropping a file into the browser, or explicitly selecting a file from a popup to get around this? I know flash 10 allows reading of a local file, just wondering if there were any method to do this in javascript. Thanks

  I am writing a simple multithreaded socketserver and I am wondering how best to handle incoming connections: create a new thread for each new connection. The number of concurrent threads would be limited and waiting connections limited by specifying a backlog add all incoming connections into a queue and have a pool of worker threads that process the queue I am inclined to go for option 2 because I really don't want to refuse any connections, even under high loads, but I am wondering if there are any considerations I should be aware of with accepting effectively unlimited connections?

• Switch statements: do you need the last break? (Javascript mainly)

  When using a switch() statement, you add break; in between separate case: declarations. But what about the last one? Normally I just leave it off, but I'm wondering if this has some performance implication I'm not thinking about? I have a Navigation based app that when you drill down to the last level, that last view has lots and lots of information and details.
