  • realtime window remote connection?

    Hi, I am trying to control a desktop (HTPC) using my laptop. I currently use Teamviewer, but it is pretty slow. I used to use window remote desktop connection and it was pretty fast. The problem with window remote desktop connection is that it does not support realtime. By "Realtime", I mean it does not display what I am doing on the computer being controlled. Any suggestions?

  • Strange Internet Connection issues

    I'm attempting to troubleshoot problems with a laptop computer(HP 8510w) while it's connected to a server of mine via Remote Desktop. I double checked all the settings on the win2k3 server for remote desktop to verify that remote desktop isn't what's causing the disconnect issues, and other people using different computers/laptops can all connect to remote desktop correctly with no issues. These problems happen specifically when the laptop is connected via wifi(several different wifi sources, so it's not an ISP issue) as well as connected via a Verizon data card. However there's no network downtime when the laptop is resting in the docking station and plugged into the network with the remote desktop server. These problems have also only recently occurred since a recent hard drive failure in which a new hard drive was purchased and the laptop had a fresh install of windows xp professional. There's no special software used on this machine, just office 2003. So my question is, what could cause two types of internet access to fail while other types do not? If it is infact related to the win2k3 server, why is this particular laptop getting disconnected when others are not and are all on at the same time?

Now, if in onPrepareOptionsMenu the second menu item gets disabled, its label and icon become gray, but also the icon of the first menu item becomes gray, while the label of that fist menu item stays black and it remains clickable. What is causing this crosstalk between the two icons/drawables? Shouldn't the system handle things like mutate() in this case? I've included a screenshot:

  • Clustered index - multi-part vs single-part index and effects of inserts/deletes

    This question is about what happens with the reorganizing of data in a clustered index when an insert is done. I assume that it should be more expensive to do inserts on a table which has a clustered index than one that does not because reorganizing the data in a clustered index involves changing the physical layout of the data on the disk. I'm not sure how to phrase my question except through an example I came across at work. Assume there is a table (Junk) and there are two queries that are done on the table, the first query searches by Name and the second query searches by Name and Something. As I'm working on the database I discovered that the table has been created with two indexes, one to support each query, like so: --drop table Junk1 CREATE TABLE Junk1 ( Name char(5), Something char(5), WhoCares int ) CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX IX_Name ON Junk1 ( Name ) CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IX_Name_Something ON Junk1 ( Name, Something ) Now when I looked at the two indexes, it seems that IX_Name is redundant since IX_Name_Something can be used by any query that desires to search by Name. So I would eliminate IX_Name and make IX_Name_Something the clustered index instead: --drop table Junk2 CREATE TABLE Junk2 ( Name char(5), Something char(5), WhoCares int ) CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX IX_Name_Something ON Junk2 ( Name, Something ) Someone suggested that the first indexing scheme should be kept since it would result in more efficient inserts/deletes (assume that there is no need to worry about updates for Name and Something). Would that make sense? I think the second indexing method would be better since it means one less index needs to be maintained. I would appreciate any insight into this specific example or directing me to more info on maintenance of clustered indexes.

  • Activation Function, Initializer function, etc, effects on neural networks for face detection

    There's various activation functions: sigmoid, tanh, etc. And there's also a few initializer functions: Nguyen and Widrow, random, normalized, constant, zero, etc. So do these have much effect on the outcome of a neural network specialising in face detection? Right now I'm using the Tanh activation function and just randomising all the weights from -0.5 to 0.5. I have no idea if this is the best approach though, and with 4 hours to train the network each time, I'd rather ask on here than experiment!

  • jQuery not taking effect immediately.

    Is there any reason for my jQuery effects not to be taking effect immediately? I have jQuery hover fade effects, but then I also have CSS rollovers as backups for anyone who has javascript disabled. What happens is when you load a page and roll over a link, you get the CSS effect, but any time after that, you get the nice, smooth jQuery effect. Is there a fix for this?

  • Side effects of reordering columns in PostgreSQL

    I sometimes re-order the columns in my Postgres DB. Since Postgres can only add columns at the end of tables, I end up re-ordering by adding new columns at the end of the table, setting them equal to existing columns, and then dropping the original columns. My question is: what does PostgreSQL do with the memory that's freed by dropped columns? Does it automatically re-use the memory, so a single record consumes the same amount of space as it did beforehand? But that would require a re-write of the whole table, so to avoid that, does it just keep a bunch of blank space around in each record? Thanks! ~S

    Hey guys, I'm working on some legacy code for a client, involving Microsoft Content Management System (MCMS). Currently, everything is local, the code, MCMS, SQLServer, and IIS (5.x). I copied the project folder, and then opened the new copied solution in VS2005, and let it do it's conversion thing. But now nothing works. I've nnotice there have been some changes to IIS profile. What are the extent of these changes...?? Also, my VS2003 fails to recognize the Web Project?? Anyone have any idea what's going on? cheers!

    I have a request from our legal team to search a users' mailbox. the mailbox is 15gig and it is on exchange 2003. I am trying to run windows desktop search and google desktop. I have gotten them to index mailbox but getting the results into a folder to backup on cd is getting bit difficult. Windows desktop search and google desktop search does not allow you to copy results to another folder. Can anyone point me to right direction? What is the best way to index and copy the results of pst, mailbox or edb file? What is the best discovery methods? Thanks

  • Streaming desktop with avconv - severe sound issues

    I'm trying to do some live streaming in Ubuntu 12.10, but I'm having some problems with audio. More specifically, the quality is complete garbage and it's at least 10 seconds out of sync with the video. I'm using an excellent guide found here to set up my loopback devices so that I can combine the desktop audio with the microphone input. It seems to work, as I'm able to stream both audio and video to Twitch.tv. But, as I said, the audio quality is terrible. The microphone audio is very, very low, but if I increase it, I get a horrible garbled sound that is absolutely unbearable. Nothing like that is present during VoIP calls or when recording sound alone with the sound recorder, so it's not an issue with the microphone itself. The entire audio stream is also delayed about 10-15 seconds compared to the video stream. I put together an imgur album of my settings.   • CSS hover behavior inconsistent on desktop/mobile devices [migrated]

    I have a strange problem: This page looks good on desktop browsers, but the hovering effect does not seem to work correctly on at least my CM7 Android 2.3.7 device. I know hovering is not supposed to work on touch displays as it does with a mouse, but I'd like to have touch feedback, i.e. the highlight color should show once the user has tapped a menu item. This does work when the link is just a href="#" but it does not when it is a real link. I tried all sorts of stuff as you can see, to no avail. If you go back in the browser history after having tapped a real link, the item is highlighted, so the browser understands the CSS I am throwing at it. However, the javascript alert makes it clear that it only seems to interpret the link opening action and does not care about the color changing stuff. Weird that is.   • Increase the size of Taskbar Preview Thumbnails in Windows 7

    Taskbar thumbnail previews are incredibly useful in Windows 7, but for some users they may be too small.  Here’s a tool to help you make your taskbar thumbnail previews just like you want them. A few years ago we featured a tool to increase the size of your thumbnail previews in Windows Vista, but unfortunately this application doesn’t work correctly in Windows 7.  However, there is a new tool for Windows 7 that lets you customize your taskbar thumbnail previews even more in Windows 7.  With it, you can change almost anything about your taskbar thumbnail previews.  The default taskbar thumbnails are nice, but may be too small for users with vision problems or with very high resolution monitors.  Whatever your need, this is a great tool to make the thumbnails looks and work just like you want. Let’s get started Download the Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer (link below), and unzip the files.  Run the Windows 7 Taskbar Thumbnail Customizer when you’re done.  Simply double-click on it; you don’t need to run it as administrator. Now, you change the size, spacing, margin, and delay time of your taskbar thumbnails.  The Delay Time setting is very handy; to speed things up, we set it to 0 so there’s no delay between when you mouse-over a taskbar icon to when you see the thumbnail.  Simply drag the slider to the size (or time in the delay settings) you want, and click Apply settings.  Windows Explorer will automatically restart, and your new taskbar thumbnails will be ready to use. Here is the default Windows 7 thumbnail preview of a video playing in Media player: And here’s the taskbar thumbnail enlarged to 380px.  Now you can really watch a video from your taskbar thumbnail. The larger taskbar thumbnails show up a little different in Internet Explorer.  It shows a larger preview of your active tab, and smaller previews of your other tabs.  Notice also that Aero peek shows the tab you’re hovering over in Internet Explorer, but the tab name in IE’s toolbar doesn’t change to the one you’re previewing.   Here we increased the width between the thumbnails, while keeping the thumbnails at their default size.  This could be useful if you have trouble selecting the correct preview, and we can imagine it would be a very useful modification on touch screens. And, if you ever take your changes too far, and want to revert to your default Windows 7 taskbar thumbnail previews, simply run the Customizer again and select Restore Defaults.  Windows Explorer will restart again, and your taskbar thumbnails will be back to their default settings.   Conclusion This tool makes it safe and easy to change the size, spacing, and more of your taskbar thumbnail previews.  And since you can always revert to the default settings, you can experiment without fear of messing up your computer.  If you’d prefer to change the settings manually without using a dedicated application, here’s a list of the registry changes you can make to accomplish this by hand.     i got the info here but after adding that i didn't get any shortcut on my desktop contest menu :( pls help me i want it only on my desktop context menu Open regedit and goto: CODEHKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell now under this key create another key with any name and in right-side pane set its value to the label, which you want to show in desktop context menu, like Media Player, Winamp, Firefox, anything else. Now create another key under this newly created key with name command. and in right-side pane set its value to the exact path of application, like: C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe etc... Thats it. Now you can check your favorite application shortcut in desktop context menu. You can create as many shortcut as you want. Simply create a separate key for all the applications. Following is a ready-made code: CODEWindows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\WMP] @="Windows Media Player" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\WMP\command] @="C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" Just change the label and path to ur desired application and save with the name "vishal.reg" (including the quotes) and run it.
