  • Java File manipulation

    - by user69514
So I have an application with a JFileChooser from which I select a file to read. Then I change some words and write a new file. The problem that I am having is that when I write the new file it's saved in the project directory. How do I save it in the same directory as the file that I chose using the JFileChooser. Note: I don't want to use the JFileChooser to choose the location. I just need to save the file in the same directory as the original file that I read.

  • In which document do file specifications belong?

    - by Andrew
In which document would a file specification belong? Perhaps this file is used as an input to a third-party system. Would it belong in its own document? Or would it be better to put it in the functional or design spec? Or somewhere else? When I say file specification, I mean a description of what format the file is (CSV, fixed width, etc), columns, data types, etc. Also, where should you document how the file is generated? i.e. business rules/algorithms which are used to generate the file.

  • Windows batch/script code to conditionally process based on date value in text file

    - by CarolinaJay65
I am using Windows XP. The code can be used in a batch file or vbs script. I intend to use Windows scheduler to run the program. I need code to read a date from a text file (could be the only line in the text file or the date could be included in the filename, I control the process that generates the file) The code would then need to evaluate the text file date against the current date to confirm that the text file date is from the prior month. I'm starting to build a process to be able to run 1st-of-the-month jobs once the monthly data has been refreshed. I'm new to building this kind of process using batch/script files. Thanks for your time

  • Split a binary file into chunks c++

    - by L4nce0
    I've been bashing my head against trying to first divide up a file into chunks, for the purpose of sending over sockets. I can read / write a file easily without splitting it into chunks. The code below runs, works, kinda. It will write a textfile and has a garbage character. Which if this was just for txt, no problem. Jpegs aren't working with said garbage. Been at it for a few days, so I've done my research, and it's time to get some help. I do want to stick strictly to binary readers, as this need to handle any file. I've seen a lot of slick examples out there. (none of them worked for me with jpgs) Mostly something along the lines of while(file)... I subscribe to the, if you know the size, use a for-loop, not a while-loop camp. Thank you for the help!! vector<char*> readFile(const char* fn){ vector<char*> v; ifstream::pos_type size; char * memblock; ifstream file; file.open(fn,ios::in|ios::binary|ios::ate); if (file.is_open()) { size = fileS(fn); file.seekg (0, ios::beg); int bs = size/3; // arbitrary. Actual program will use the socket send size int ws = 0; int i = 0; for(i = 0; i < size; i+=bs){ if(i+bs > size) ws = size%bs; else ws = bs; memblock = new char [ws]; file.read (memblock, ws); v.push_back(memblock); } } else{ exit(-4); } return v; } int main(int argc, char **argv) { vector<char*> v = readFile("foo.txt"); ofstream myFile ("bar.txt", ios::out | ios::binary); for(vector<char*>::iterator it = v.begin(); it!=v.end(); ++it ){ myFile.write(*it,strlen(*it)); } }

  • juju illegal base64 data at input byte 9

    - by ayr-ton
After bootstrap a environment via manual provisioning, juju give me the following output for juju status: ERROR Unable to connect to environment "manual". Please check your credentials or use 'juju bootstrap' to create a new environment. Error details: illegal base64 data at input byte 9 And doing bootstrap again shows me: WARNING ignoring environments.yaml: using bootstrap config in file "/home/ayrton/.juju/environments/manual.jenv" ERROR illegal base64 data at input byte 9 The first bootstrap shows me no error, but the status crash as above and the second one output is just the base64 error. My juju version is 1.19.4-trusty-amd64, running in trusty 64. The bootstrap environment is a VPS with 1GB of memory, 20GB of hd and precise 64bits. Please, let me know if I can provide any further information.

  • SQL SERVER – PAGEIOLATCH_DT, PAGEIOLATCH_EX, PAGEIOLATCH_KP, PAGEIOLATCH_SH, PAGEIOLATCH_UP – Wait Type – Day 9 of 28

    - by pinaldave
It is very easy to say that you replace your hardware as that is not up to the mark. In reality, it is very difficult to implement. It is really hard to convince an infrastructure team to change any hardware because they are not performing at their best. I had a nightmare related to this issue in a deal with an infrastructure team as I suggested that they replace their faulty hardware. This is because they were initially not accepting the fact that it is the fault of their hardware. But it is really easy to say “Trust me, I am correct”, while it is equally important that you put some logical reasoning along with this statement. PAGEIOLATCH_XX is such a kind of those wait stats that we would directly like to blame on the underlying subsystem. Of course, most of the time, it is correct – the underlying subsystem is usually the problem. From Book On-Line: PAGEIOLATCH_DT Occurs when a task is waiting on a latch for a buffer that is in an I/O request. The latch request is in Destroy mode. Long waits may indicate problems with the disk subsystem. PAGEIOLATCH_EX Occurs when a task is waiting on a latch for a buffer that is in an I/O request. The latch request is in Exclusive mode. Long waits may indicate problems with the disk subsystem. PAGEIOLATCH_KP Occurs when a task is waiting on a latch for a buffer that is in an I/O request. The latch request is in Keep mode. Long waits may indicate problems with the disk subsystem. PAGEIOLATCH_SH Occurs when a task is waiting on a latch for a buffer that is in an I/O request. The latch request is in Shared mode. Long waits may indicate problems with the disk subsystem. PAGEIOLATCH_UP Occurs when a task is waiting on a latch for a buffer that is in an I/O request. The latch request is in Update mode. Long waits may indicate problems with the disk subsystem. PAGEIOLATCH_XX Explanation: Simply put, this particular wait type occurs when any of the tasks is waiting for data from the disk to move to the buffer cache. ReducingPAGEIOLATCH_XX wait: Just like any other wait type, this is again a very challenging and interesting subject to resolve. Here are a few things you can experiment on: Improve your IO subsystem speed (read the first paragraph of this article, if you have not read it, I repeat that it is easy to say a step like this than to actually implement or do it). This type of wait stats can also happen due to memory pressure or any other memory issues. Putting aside the issue of a faulty IO subsystem, this wait type warrants proper analysis of the memory counters. If due to any reasons, the memory is not optimal and unable to receive the IO data. This situation can create this kind of wait type. Proper placing of files is very important. We should check file system for the proper placement of files – LDF and MDF on separate drive, TempDB on separate drive, hot spot tables on separate filegroup (and on separate disk), etc. Check the File Statistics and see if there is higher IO Read and IO Write Stall SQL SERVER – Get File Statistics Using fn_virtualfilestats. It is very possible that there are no proper indexes on the system and there are lots of table scans and heap scans. Creating proper index can reduce the IO bandwidth considerably. If SQL Server can use appropriate cover index instead of clustered index, it can significantly reduce lots of CPU, Memory and IO (considering cover index has much lesser columns than cluster table and all other it depends conditions). You can refer to the two articles’ links below previously written by me that talk about how to optimize indexes. Create Missing Indexes Drop Unused Indexes Updating statistics can help the Query Optimizer to render optimal plan, which can only be either directly or indirectly. I have seen that updating statistics with full scan (again, if your database is huge and you cannot do this – never mind!) can provide optimal information to SQL Server optimizer leading to efficient plan. Checking Memory Related Perfmon Counters SQLServer: Memory Manager\Memory Grants Pending (Consistent higher value than 0-2) SQLServer: Memory Manager\Memory Grants Outstanding (Consistent higher value, Benchmark) SQLServer: Buffer Manager\Buffer Hit Cache Ratio (Higher is better, greater than 90% for usually smooth running system) SQLServer: Buffer Manager\Page Life Expectancy (Consistent lower value than 300 seconds) Memory: Available Mbytes (Information only) Memory: Page Faults/sec (Benchmark only) Memory: Pages/sec (Benchmark only) Checking Disk Related Perfmon Counters Average Disk sec/Read (Consistent higher value than 4-8 millisecond is not good) Average Disk sec/Write (Consistent higher value than 4-8 millisecond is not good) Average Disk Read/Write Queue Length (Consistent higher value than benchmark is not good) Note: The information presented here is from my experience and there is no way that I claim it to be accurate. I suggest reading Book OnLine for further clarification. All of the discussions of Wait Stats in this blog is generic and varies from system to system. It is recommended that you test this on a development server before implementing it to a production server. • Mouse input not updating in custom XNA/Winforms panel

    - by ChocoMan
I have a custom Panel residing within my WinForm. the custom Panel holds the XNA rendering. So far, I've rendered an 3D test model. What I'm doing now is trying to handle the input.Using a camera from another working game, keyboard input works fine moving the camera in all 6 directions. But when it comes to handling the mouse to yaw and pitch the camera, nothing happens. I've searched about to see if anyone has come across this problem, but found no testable solutions to my problem. Does anyone understand as to what may be causing the Mouse not to be called when moved? Within MainForm constructor: public MainForm() { InitializeComponent(); Mouse.WindowHandle = panel3D.Handle; } Panel3D.cs Custom XNA Panel class FreeCamera.cs FreeCamera class

  • Problem with webcam after changing camera input to my iPhone's camera [closed]

    - by andrew
While trying to use my iPhone as a webcam I changed the paths for the camera input - now I can neither use the built-in webcam nor my iPhone's camera This is the website where I got the information from: http://www.kudanai.com/2010/11/howto-use-your-iphone-as-webcam-in.html I got stuck at the loopback part. I would just like to know how to set the path back to my built-in camera so I can at least use that. Or if there is some way to reset the camera input settings. • What feature is at play when Ctrl+Shift+Alt+U,E "types" an unprintable hex 000E?

    - by Peter.O
I tend to use Ctrl+Shift+Alt for my customized system-wide keybindings. When I tried Ctrl+Shift+Alt+U it printed an underscored u and waited for more keyboard input!... Some keys were accepted and some were not... eg. Numbers were accepted and they too were underlined, but only a few keys allowed me to break out. I then tried Ctrl+Shift+Alt+U immediately followed by Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E. This produced an unprintable hex 000E(?) and broke out of the loop... The unprintable character got me thinking that this may be Unicode related. If so, how so? What is happening here? Is this underscored u a trigger for an Input Method Editor? This behaviour occurs: Here (as I type), "gedit", text-edit fields... (but not in the Terminal)... and "gvim" reported "pattern not found"...

  • Monogame - Input secuence game (Scripting?)

    - by user2662567
I'm starting to program my very first game, it's a clone of DDR/Stepmania done for research purposes and learning. I (at this early stage) get most of the UI/Music/input work that should be done, but what i still can't grasp is scripting, i've read about Lua and that you shouldn't use it with XNA/Monogame as C# is capable enough, but i cannot get the utility of it. Assuming the needs of my game, ¿What would be the ideal way to implement the input secuences it needs?, i thought of XML/Json, let's say Stage 1 <game> <level id="1"> <step id="1" key="up" time="00:00:01"/> <step id="2" key="left" time="00:00:02"/> </level> </game> Is that a correct implementation? or are there better ways with more benefits?

  • Java applet game design no keyboard focus

    - by Sri Harsha Chilakapati
THIS IS PROBABLY THE WRONG PLACE. POSTED ITHERE (STACKOVERFLOW) I'm making an applet game and it is rendering, the game loop is running, the animations are updating, but the keyboard input is not working. Here's an SSCCE. public class Game extends JApplet implements Runnable { public void init(){ // Initialize the game when called by browser setFocusable(true); requestFocus(); requestFocusInWindow(); // Always returning false GInput.install(this); // Install the input manager for this class new Thread(this).start(); } public void run(){ startGameLoop(); } } And Here's the GInput class. public class GInput implements KeyListener { public static void install(Component c){ new GInput(c); } public GInput(Component c){ c.addKeyListener(this); } public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e){ System.out.println("A key has been pressed"); } ...... } This is my GInput class. When run as an applet, it doesn't work and when I add the Game class to a frame, it works properly. Thanks

  • Server-side Input

    - by Thomas
Currently in my game, the client is nothing but a renderer. When input state is changed, the client sends a packet to the server and moves the player as if it were processing the input, but the server has the final say on the position. This generally works really well, except for one big problem: falling off edges. Basically, if a player is walking towards an edge, say a cliff, and stops right before going off the edge, sometimes a second later, he'll be teleported off of the edge. This is because the "I stopped pressing W" packet is sent after the server processes the information. Here's a lag diagram to help you understand what I mean: http://i.imgur.com/Prr8K.png I could just send a "W Pressed" packet each frame for the server to process, but that would seem to be a bandwidth-costly solution. Any help is appreciated!

  • Changing DisplayMode seems not to update Input&Graphic Dimension

    - by coding.mof
I'm writing a small game using Slick and Nifty-GUI. At the program startup I set the DisplayMode using the following lines: AppGameContainer app = new ... app.setDisplayMode( 800, 600, false ); app.start(); I wrote a Nifty-ScreenController for my settings dialog in which the user can select the desired DisplayMode. When I try to set the new DisplayMode within this controller class the game window gets resized correctly but the Graphics and Input objects aren't updated accordingly. Therefore my rendering code just uses a part of the new window. I tried to set different DisplayModes in the main method to test if it's generally possible to invoke this method multiple times. It seems that changing the DisplayMode only works before I call app.start(). Furthermore I tried to update the Graphics & Input object manually but the init and setDimensions methods are package private. :( Does someone know what I'm doing wrong and how to change the DisplayMode correctly?

  • What file manager/uploader do you use with your embeded wysiwyg editor ?

    - by Wookai
I am looking for a wysiwyg editor to allow user to edit part of their website. I already worked with TinyMCE, and heard about CKEditor, which both look great. However, they both lack a free (PHP) file manager/uploader, as they sell their own tool to make some money. I found a few free alternatives for TinyMCE, the best one (for my needs) being PHP Letter's one, but I was wondering about what the community uses ? Do you buy the "official" file manager ? Do you code your own ? Or do you have a great (free) alternative ?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 update + VirtualBox VM 4.1.14 r77440 - No input

    - by Gubatron
I can only enter my password with the keyboard and this is what I see after I login If I try to switch to a terminal with CtrlAlt+F1 I get this I don't have a clue how to fix this, or if it's even possible to fix this without access to a terminal. The recovery console does not work either. It opens, but keyboard input doesn't seem to be working for it either. Anybody had this happened? Update (next day) Keyboard input lets me do Alt+F2 and invoke a terminal, but I can't change focus to the terminal window that opens. Any tip on how to switch focus (Alt+Tab wont work) to the terminal window. Maybe looking at this you might have a clue what's going on, maybe there's no window manager loading?

  • Audio output and input stopped working after the last update

    - by renatov
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 and everything was perfect until todays's update. Now my audio output (speakers) and input (microphone) stopped working. I guess it's a driver issue, but I need help to debug this problem and to solve it. I have a Dell Inspiron 5421 notebook with an Intel audio integrated sound card: $ lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) If I go to Ubuntu Settings Sound Output, it doesn't show my Intel card there anymore: The same for the Input tab, it doesn's show my Intel card there anymore: Could you please help me?

  • Trying to convert simple midlet application to Android application but running into problems.

    - by chobo2
    Hi I am trying to do some threading in Android so I took an old threading assignment I had done fora midlet and took out the midlet code and replaced it with android code(such as textview). package com.assignment1; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.TextView; public class Threading extends Activity { private TextView tortose; private TextView hare; private Thread hareThread; private Thread torotoseThread; private int num = 0; private int num2 = 0; public Threading() { } /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); tortose = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.TextView01); hare = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.TextView02); Hare newHare = new Hare(); hareThread = new Thread(newHare); hareThread.start(); Torotose newTortose = new Torotose(); torotoseThread = new Thread(newTortose); torotoseThread.start(); //updateDisplay(); } private synchronized void check(int value1, int value2) { if((value1-value2) >= 10) { try { wait(); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } private synchronized void getGoing(int value1, int value2) { if((value1-value2) == 0) { try { notify(); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } private class Hare extends Thread { public void run() { while(true) { num++; hare.setText(Integer.toString(num)); check(num, num2); try { // are threads different in andriod apps? Thread.sleep(100); // hareThread.sleep(100); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } } private class Torotose extends Thread { public void run() { while(true) { num2++; tortose.setText(Integer.toString(num2)); getGoing(num,num2); try { Thread.sleep(200); //torotoseThread.sleep(200); } catch(Exception ex) { System.out.println(ex); } } } } } First it wanted me to change my threads to like static threads.So is this just how Android does it? Next when I run this code it just crashes with some unexpected error. I am not sure what the error is but when I try to debug it and goes to like to create a new "hare" object it shows me this. // Compiled from ClassLoader.java (version 1.5 : 49.0, super bit) public abstract class java.lang.ClassLoader { // Method descriptor #8 ()V // Stack: 3, Locals: 1 protected ClassLoader();
