    Hello all, I've been programming for 4 years now and I feel it's time for a new language. I've been doing Python, Java and some C++/Erlang/Haskell along those 4 years but I'm looking for a new language.   • Accurate Sleep for Java on Windows

    Does anyone know a Library which provides a Thread.sleep() for Java which has an error not higher than 1-2 Millisecond? I tried a mixture of Sleep, error measurement and BusyWait but I don't get this reliable on different windows machines. It can be a native implementation if the implementation is available for Linux and MacOS too. EDIT The link Nick provided ( http://blogs.sun.com/dholmes/entry/inside_the_hotspot_vm_clocks ) is a really good resource to understand the issues all kinds of timers/sleeps/clocks java has.

  • Stuck removing ffmpeg from system due to package problems

    I'd be very grateful to get a bit of support on the following situation: Using Ubuntu 12.04, and I used the PPA of Jon Severinson for ffmpeg. I had a problem playing movies with mplayer, so I decided to remove the PPA and try to use libav only after I read this article about libav vs ffmpeg. I first removed the PPA from the list, then apt-get update, etc. But I couldn't remove ffmpeg due to dependency-errors and got stuck in what seemed some kind of loop. Then I found a suggestion here. I followed the steps, and ended up force-removing libavcodec-extra-53. Because, apparently that was "what got stuff moving again". At the moment I can't. Now Ubuntu is reporting a broken package (BrokenCount 0).   • Mac OS X Terminal get in Macintosh HD? For using Git and Github

    I wanted to get started with using Git and Github especially for installing Web software to my htdocs directory. htdocs is the folder in which you put all your websites that then run by using MAMP -- Apache server, PHP, MySQL and stuff. This not the real problem though, the problem is I am in the terminal and see this: imac-van-jeroen-*******-2:~ JeroensiMac$ And using cd ~ or cd .. just results back in the line above, which is usual. The problem is that all my applications and everything really is not on my user but in the Macintosh HD. Macintosh HD/applications, or Macintosh HD/applications/MAMP/htdocs/ I want to be in the Terminal and go to my Macintosh HD (is this referred to as being superuser?). I want to know if this is just my fault for installing everything on my Macintosh HD instead of Macintosh HD/users/JeroensiMac/~. Also I would like to know if its possible at all, and I am just missing something. And If I am not doing anything wrong is it safe to use Git(Github) with directories in my Macintosh HD?

  • No GUI after upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 (boots to command line)

    I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 (network upgrade using the update manager, from 9.04 which had different graphics related problems) and when I try to boot into it all I get a small Ubuntu logo, flickering text and then the tty1 command line with a logon prompt. startx gives following error: Fatal server error: no screens found I traced down a tutorial that said I needed the latest graphics drivers (Gigabyte ATI Radeon 4650 HD installed with 9.10 catalyst drivers) so I did using the 'sh' command and a USB stick (I have a working Windows partition) and it installed fine but did not fix the problem. Edit: Thanks to UK and Arjan van Bentem below I was able to understand the full error message of start x: Parse error on lone 2 of /etc/X11/xorg.conf 'nameserver' is not a valid keyword in this section Fatal server error: no screens found This has nothing to do with a graphical error (sorry if I misled anyone) but the xorg.conf file has 3 lines in it and lines 2-3 have an entry 'nameserver'. Using the nano command I commented out (using a # before the entries) the nameservers and can now boot Ubuntu. Thanks to everyone for their help.

    I've got a dir that i've lost controll over in an afs system. According to the system adminstrators my adminin subgroup (dsekt:admin) got rlidwka on the dir. I'm a member of this group (and i can list the members of the group and see my nick there) though I can't set the acl's for the dir. The pts: $pts membership dsekt:admin Members of dsekt:admin (id: -6813) are: /.../ taran And my klist. $>klist Credentials cache: FILE:/tmp/krb5cc_56782 Principal: [email protected] Both dsekt:admin and the dir is on the NADA.KTH.SE node.

  • HP ProLiant DL320e G8 v2 - USB2.0 during POST

    Initially my USB2.0 ports were working during POST (and boot). However, now they appear not to be. I first noticed this when I could not access the RBSU by pressing F9 during POST. Then found that I couldn't boot from USB either (I was able to do both of these initially). When performing the boot via iLo remote console I can access all of the setups (i.e., all of the F(X)'s) and can boot virtual media from a 'removable drive'. Keyboard works fine once the OS is booted. Not really sure what to try here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Nick.

    How should I setup sharing/directory permissions to allow the following to work: VMHost - Hyper-V partition (not part of domain) ADServer - Active Directory Domain Controller running as guest VM on VMHost \VMHost\Updates disk share for WSUS to put the updates and other local files Problem is what permissions do I need to give to \VMHost\Updates to allow WSUS to work with this directory to avoid "The WSUS content directory is not accessible" error which I am currently seeing. As far as I can tell WSUS runs as "domain/Network Service" account. Question is without adding VMHost to the domain how do I give that user appropriate permissions to this directory? Is there a way that VMHost can be told to trust ADServer and then be able to use users accounts from there?     I have been trying to configure munin-plugins-rails to monitor the performance of our rails apps from Munin. The graphs appear, but no data is shown in the graphs. The log files show Error output from : 2013/06/27-15:39:06 [5540] Request-log-analyzer, by Willem van Bergen and $ 2013/06/27-15:39:06 [5540] Website: http://railsdoctors.com I have tried running Request-log-analyzer manually and pointing it at the production log file, and this reports as % for every item. There is data in the log file. I have tried changing the version of the gems installed, and also the type of the log file, but no luck. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

  • Unable to get to remote samba share

    I have a remote VPS that I would like to setup samba on and only allow my IP access to it. I currently have in my smb.conf: [global] netbios name = apollo security = user encrypt passwords = true socket options = TCP_NODELAY printing = bsd log level = 3 log file = /var/log/samba/log/%m debug timestamp = yes max log size = 100 [hosting] path = /hosting/ comment = Hosting Folder browseable = yes read only = yes guest account = yes valid users = nick I have the ports (137,138,139,445) open in iptables (they're open to everyone right now while I debug) and I see nothing in the syslog about iptables blocking my requests. When I try to open a file browser to my address \\ipaddress, it hangs for a good thirty seconds, and then opens a log in box. I enter my user name and password for the server, hit okay. It then opens the same box, I enter my credentials again and hit enter. Windows then tells me it could not connect. My user account is added to Samba already. Anybody have any suggestions what I can do to get this working?

Everything I need is a code in Java to check if the pair <nick,password> is right.   • Windows 2003 Server - File Permissions

    I have a Windows 2003 web server with a tree of folders that contains around 100GB of small images. I need to update the permissions on this folder to add a new user with access. I tried to do this by right clicking on the folder and adding the new user but the process never completed. I left it running for around an hour but it started to heavily impact the peformance of the server. Is there any other way to change these folder permissions without affecting server performance? After connecting the SATA power cable (99.99999% sure it is connected correctly) and the SATA cable to my motherboard (ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3) I booted my computer into a Linux Mint 13 XFCE 64-bit live USB expecting to see a hard drive when I came to install. Sadly when I checked the only hard drive that was showing was /dev/sda which was my USB with the Linux files on it. I also checked gparted and no hard drive other than my USB was showing up there either. Lastly I checked my BIOS and no matter what SATA port I connected the HDD to it wouldn't show up there either.   • Re-install (repair) Server 2012 Roles & Features

    Is there a way to re-install all Server Roles & Features in Server 2012? As far as I can see from Server Manager all that can be done is to manually remove each and then re-install but I am hoping that MS have provided some way of just repairing / re-installing all installed roles & features. Anyone know if there is a way of doing that? The reason for wanting to do this is that I have a Domain Server which after some recent MS updates has started causing numerous event log warnings & errors and has started behaving erratically. I know that System File Checker will check installed files but that will not fix any registry permissions problems, which is where I think problems have arisen. Guess what I am looking for is some way to recreate the whole registry and it's permissions but without doing a complete re-install. Thanks, Nick
