• Where are global settings stored?

  Hi, sometimes after logging out and in again, my settings in Tools/Options/Projects and Solutions/VC++ Directories are lost. To investigate the problem I tried to find the file where Visual Studio (2008 Team) stores those settings on disk. (Or is it in the registry?) Can anybody point me to where it is? Thanks a lot!

• How can I find out how much memory is physically installed in Windows?

  I need to log information about how much RAM the user has. My first approach was to use GlobalMemoryStatusEx but that only gives me how much memory is available to windows, not how much is installed. I found this function GetPhysicallyInstalledSystemMemory but its only Vista and later. I need this to work on XP. Is there a fairly simple way of querying the SMBIOS information that GetPhysicallyInstalledSystemMemory was using or is there a registry value somewhere that I can find this out.

• DUMP in unhandled C++ exception

  In MSVC, how can I make any unhandled C++ exception (std::runtime_error, for instance) crash my release-compiled program so that it generates a dump with the full stack from the exception throw location? I have installed NTSD in the AeDebug registry an can generate good dumps for things like memory access violation, so the matter here comes down to crashing the program correctly, I suppose. • Problem installing MySQLdb on windows - Can't find python

  I'm trying to install the module mySQLdb on a windows vista 64 (amd) machine. I've installed python on a different folder other than suggested by Python installer. When I try to install the .exe mySQLdb installer, it can't find python 2.5 and it halts the installation. Is there anyway to supply the installer with the correct python location (even thou the registry and path are right)?

  Hello, I am trying to deactivate the annoying sound when clicking a link in WebBrowser control, WITHOUT changing the user registry. I've found documentation that this can be done through CoInternetIsFeatureEnabled, also explained here. But i have no idea how to implement it on Delphi 2010, since i am getting "Undeclared Identifier" error after including URLMon unit into the project and not much documentation out there. Any ideas?

  According to the MSDN, you can specify an access type parameter to InternetOpen. Two of the options for the dwAccessType parameter are: INTERNET_OPEN_TYPE_DIRECT - Resolves all host names locally. INTERNET_OPEN_TYPE_PRECONFIG - Retrieves the proxy or direct configuration from the registry. Which of these should I use? I don't know which would be "better". We don't want our application to do anything clever, all we want it to do is access the internet in a normal way.

  We have gotten WSO2 governance registry to send e-mails successfully. Now we want to template the emails that are being sent out.   Hello, is there a way to explicitly close a GPRS connection? I'm setting up a connection with ConnectionManager and I've set the cache time to 10 seconds. Anyway after releasing it, the connection is still on, forever, alas I cannot use the registry key "gprs_by_if_device_off". I'm not using C# but plain C++. My idea is to simulate the activity of the windows button "disconnect data connection", but I really cannot understand what it does under the curtain. Thanx.

  I am not sure if this belongs on serverfault or superuser. I would like to override SetThreadExecutionState(ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED) to be a no-op. How is this accomplished? Is there some registry setting that can be altered instead of API hooking? Blocking ES_DISPLAY_REQUIRED will prevent apps from keeping the monitor powered on. I have an application (likely the antivirus) that is preventing some monitors from entering power-save and I think this function is the culprit.

How can I read the values written by Java program using c (or c++). Looks like API I should use is RegGetValue. Is this guaranteed to work on Windows XP 32 bit?   I've gone through ODBC API searching for a function that can extract information of a data source. The closest I found is SQLDataSources that enumerates all data sources and gives you the DSN name/description. But specifically I would to extract the TNS service name of an Oracle data source. This property appears in the registry under ServerName but I found no way to access it through an API.
