    Is an install of Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack license upgradeable? Suppose I'm able to install Windows 7 Home Premium on my computer using a Family Pack key. Would I then be able to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate using the Anytime Upgrade option? Considering that the Family Pack only uses one key to activate three PCs, what happens when I upgrade one of those computers with Anytime Upgrade? Would I be able to use the Anytime Upgrade key on all three computers? Or just one computer? Is upgrading this license key even possible?

One thing used heavy from the command line are bash functions that get sourced from some file included from some file included from some file ... included in my .bash_profile. Is there a way to get the definition or even better the location of the definition of these functions without tracking them down through 5 levels of includes?

  • Firewire hard drive with Leopard install image won't boot from PPC Mac Mini

    I have a Mac Mini (G4 - 1.25 GHz PowerPC) running osx 10.3.9. I want to upgrade it to 10.5 (Leopard). The problem is that I only have a CD and no DVD. After working through all of these issues, I got myself a firewire hard drive and both a 10.4 and 10.5 image that I could image on to the hard drive. I was able to successfully boot off the firewire drive with the 10.4 image. However, I am not able to boot off the firewire drive with the 10.5 image. When trying to boot under the 10.5 image I specify the firewire drive as the startup drive. However, it just boots to the internal (10.3) drive. Any idea why it won't boot to the 10.5 image?

  • Teamviewer: cannot control monitor 1, but can control monitor 2

    I'm using the web client of Teamviewer from my work computer trying to control my home computer. I have 2 monitors on the remote desktop, but for some reason only have control on the second monitor. When I switch to the main monitor (monitor 1), I cannot do anything and cannot even move the cursor. But I have no issues when I switch over to the second monitor (monitor 2). I used to have no issues with either, but in the past couple of months this has been causing me issues. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!! Also... Here is the log from the Teamviewer session. Showing me switching back and forth between the monitors. (just in case this will help).     I have data like the following: Both Hour and Count are columns in an excel file. Hour Count 17 79 18 122 19 123 20 142 21 150 22 78 23 15 13 33 14 33 15 40 16 33 17 56 18 46 19 35 20 67 21 65 22 45 23 36 What I want is to create a chart that shows over a period of 1 to 24 (hours) the total count. What's the easiest way to do this. The chart should have a horizontal axis that runs from 1 to 24; and a vertical axis that goes from 0 on up.   • Linux VirtualBox inside Windows VirtualBox doesn't boot

    I'm trying to run a Linux VirtualBox instance inside a Windows 7 VirtualBox instance, but Linux (tried both Puppy and Mint) doesn't boot. My research says that this should be possible, see here for example: Can you run one virtual machine inside another? but I can't get it to work. Here are a couple of screenshots showing where the boot process stops for Linux Mint and Puppy Linux. What am I doing wrong?

  • Using pfSense, OpenVPN Connects but Still Can't See the Network

    I am having an OpenVPN issue. I have a pfSense box at home configured to allow traffic through a VPN tunnel. The client computer is Windows XP Home, behind a standard Comcast connection and a Netgear wireless router. I use OpenVPN to access my work network (from where I am trying to get out of in this post) from home (with an XP Pro machine behind pfSense), and this works fine. The client config is similar but has the changes specific to my setup... Here is my XP Home config: client dev tun proto tcp remote pfsense.*.org 1194 (starred out by me) resolv-retry infinite nobind persist-key persist-tun ca ca.crt cert client.crt key client.key ns-cert-type server comp-lzo verb 3 When I launch the OpenVPN GUI, the Tunnel TAP network connection turns red, and I can right-click that to connect to the server. Everything seems to work fine until I browse for the actual network. The Tunnel TAP connection turns green and it says connected to 10.1.1.6 (I have tried different IP pools here too with no luck). I can see the internal network fine, but my home network behind pfSense is not there. I have tried browsing there by using Tools Map Network Drive, using the browser, with no success. At first there was just the WAN firewall rule, because that is what I got from the literature I was reading. I then created a LAN rule as well, but I'm not sure if this was correct.   • When I use SharePoint's export to spreadsheet (Excel), not all the columns appear

    We have several SharePoint (MOSS) lists with 100's of items so we use 'export to spreadsheet' to do the heavy editing. But, in the spreadsheet not all of the list columns appear. One example is all columns of the 'publishing HTML' type cannot be edited (or even seen) in either Excel 2003 or the web datasheet view. But, an SSIS can export/import these columns without issue. Is there a way to use Excel 2003/2007 or Access 03/07 to edit these columns. Is there another way to connect to these columns?

I tried using db_dump (Berkeley DB) for the .db files, but it seems that they are not Berkeley DB, or of an older version. I have no idea what the .PMP files are.   • How do I remove a root kit from Windows XP?

    I was looking for root kits following these instructions http://computersight.com/software/how-to-manually-remove-rootkit/ and saw this in my boot log: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\awhk9fmc.SYS I tried to search for that filename in Google but there was absolutely nothing found. I tried to look at the file on the disk but could not find it. Nearly every other file is there. I even tried to boot in Windows 98 and mount the NTFS and see the file, but it still wasn't there. I ran a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials but it found nothing. When I rebooted, I saw this line instead: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\a6n163gl.SYS How can I remove this? How can I find out what it does? How can I find out when it was put in? How can I find out who wrote it?   • How do I fix VMware “Unidentified Networks” in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1?

    I have recently installed VMware Workstation 7 onto Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1 and both VMnet1 and VMnet8 appeared as "Unidentified Networks". I have tried editing HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{4D36E972-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, a tip provided by Mathews (Jul 23, 2009) but both virtual NICs still appeared as "Unidentified Networks". I will need both NICs to be listed as "Work" or "Private" and with Internet Access. What other solutions/workarounds? Thanks!

  • Weird Apache error - Apache hangs & needs restarting regularly

    I've been recently receiving this weird error where Apache just becomes unresponsive and completely stops until it is manually restarted. It gets to a point where I can not longer retrieve apache status from cPanel, and all websites running apache just hang on "connecting" until it times out. Has anyone else received this problem? This is a screenshot of my top when this weird problem occurs, usually the top has all httpd and php processes. Thanks for your help

  • Howto make a diff of a bios or backup/ restore all bios settings

    Hi, I'm using an Dell M90 Precision Laptop which has a NVidia Quadro FX 2500M graphics card and is running Windows XP. Laptop has been running fine - but a few weeks ago screen went 'white' - restarted computer- bios and startup screens show weird green dots and stripes, normal startup only shows a black screen... only VGA mode works to display something. I've been trying to remove and reinstall the correct drivers downloaded from Dell's website - no solution. I gave up and reinstalled XP - everything was working perfect again. 2 weeks later - again the white screen - tried everything again (flashin new bios also - nothing works) Reinstalled XP - everyhting was working again, so I made a DriveSnapShot of the partition. Today - again the 'white screen'. Ok, no problem ...I was thinking all I needed to do was to restore the DriveSnapShot backup... Few minutes later the backup is restored ... but guess what: video driver does not work correctly... As the DriveSnapShot restored the complete partition, as it was at the time everything was working perfectly, this would mean my driver problems are due to 'settings' in the bios or on the graphics-card itself + these 'settings' can get overridden by doing a new XP-install.... I'm out of options, can somebody help me to find a solution for this problem: Is there some way to backup and restore a bios after seeing some problems? Is there some way to know what is causing this problem like a bios diff utility? Thanks!

    Hey guys sorry for disturbing you again, but these days I have a lot of work to do with ffmpeg. I found on http://code.google.com/p/ffmbc/wiki/XDCAMHD422Encoding vtag settings for XDCAM HD 422 and used them in my script, everything works fine for HD 422, now I am desperately searching for normal HD vtags and have found only one so far was xd3v for Apple XDCAM HD 1080i50 (35 Mb/s VBR) which I don't need because its interlaced. What I need are the vtags for 1080p24, 1080p25 and 1080p30.     Hi All, When I RDP into a win2k3 machine with the dual mon settings, I've noticed that there are a couple of usability problems: 1) Dialog boxes are popped up right in the middle of both monitors making it hard to read. 2) Windows are maximized to both monitors instead of just one. 3) The task bar spans across two monitors. (This is just a matter of preference. I prefer my task bar to span across just my primary monitor) I know that Splitview is a good tool that solves all these problems, but there's a price-tag to it. To be fair, $39 for a tool like this is not too bad at all. However, before I suggest this tool to my team and manager to get the licenses for it, are there any free alternatives that will solve the 3 above problems? -Steve

  • VMware Player loses internet connectivity

    Periodically, the internet simply stops working in my virtual machine, and the only way I can get it working again is to restart the host computer. Since I use the virtual machine specifically for testing web pages, this is, shall we say, a bother. Details: I have Windows XP Pro running in VMware Player (v. 3.0.0 build-203739) on a Windows 7 host. It's set to NAT (shared IP address) because the firewall won't allow a bridged connection. Every couple of days or so, first the internet slows down to a crawl, then eventually it stops working altogether. Both VMWare and the virtual OS report that they are connected, everything looks just peachy, I can reach the internet from the host, but on the VM, all web pages time out and/or report that the server could not be found. (Browser-independent; tried with IE, FF, Chrome, Safari, and Opera.) When this happens, the only way I've found to restore the internet connectivity is to restart the host machine. Restarting the VM doesn't help, nor does refreshing network connections on either the host or the guest. (Although I'm not entirely sure I've found the proper way to refresh a network connection in Windows 7...) I have not noticed any predictability about when the problem occurs, i.e. it's not immediately after I do anything special. It seems to occur mostly after putting the host to sleep once or twice, but it has happened even if the host has been in continuous use. It also seems independent of when I start using the VM - sometimes, I wake up the VM and the internet is really slow in it, then eventually stops working altogether; other times, I wake up the VM, use it perfectly happily for a while, then suddenly the internet is gone. Does anyone know why this is occurring? Failing that, is there a workaround that's less drastic than restarting the host? (Windows 7 startup times are blazingly fast compared to previous versions of Windows, but it's still a hassle to close all my programs and reopen them again.) Edit: while badges overall are nice, the Tumbleweed badge isn't helping me to solve my problem. Hasn't anyone encountered anything even remotely similar?

    I'm trying to setup vpnc on Ubuntu. When I run vpnc, my resolv.conf file does not get changed. It still only contains my ISP's name servers: #@VPNC_GENERATED@ -- this file is generated by vpnc # and will be overwritten by vpnc # as long as the above mark is intact nameserver 65.32.5.111 nameserver 65.32.5.112 Here is my /etc/network/interfaces: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.3 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 dns-nameservers 65.32.5.111 65.32.5.112 Any tips on how to troubleshoot/resolve this?
